Beware of Shawn Siefers, arborist and Asst. Manager at Davey. After about 7-8 years of having a contract with Davey, I had enough of Mr. Siefers unresponsiveness, his patronizing approach and lack of professional communication with clients. It seems he makes sure to secure a contract (a one year commitment to service, a large tree removal), but once he gets it, the client is not his priority. I even asked the company to get a different client representative, but he refused. In early January, 2026, I canceled my contract with Davey and reached out to another well known company in the DC area. What a difference it makes! I'm glad I did. Mr. Siefers had been charging me for a special treatment of a Yoshino cherry tree. But he missed identifying the tree was plagued by carpenter ants. And I can go on with other issues, such a contract to remove a large maple tree. When I asked about removing the stomp, he said it was not in the contract. I asked if the company could do it. After days of several back and forth with answers that did not make sense, he said the two machines that remove stomps were broken. By then, I was done. read more

They are professional, certified arborists who know what they are talking about and know what to do with trees. We interviewed some other companies who said they were arborists but were actually not (and did not have an arborist certification number). Davey has fair prices and does excellent work. We will use them again. read more

I can't say enough about this fantastic company! They were super responsive and very knowledgeable about my unique problems. I had trees that had either split or were about to, and they cabled them to prevent further damage. They also cleaned up my giant birches and a favorite 40 foot maple in my back yard. The teams were GREAT! I watched Eliza shimmy up my giant oak like a squirrel in her harnesses swinging away at the branches like a Samurai! True professionals, they worked to ensure I was happy all along the way, not stopping until they were sure I was satisfied. My house is changed! So much more light inside due to the trimmed trees! The Davey Tree Expert Company did an excellent job providing great tree service to our property. Special thanks to Derek and to Lisa for their responsiveness to our questions and for providing a very detailed explanation on how they were going to accomplish tree trimming, tree pruning, cabling, bracing, and the planting of a very beautiful Willow Oak in our front yard. Derek is a very communicative arborist; he thoroughly educated us on our trees both in the front and the back of our lawn. Absolutely avoid Davey. Ridiculously not customer-friendly. I had a need for an emergency tree removal because a tree in my yard uprooted from strong winds and was in danger of falling soon on a fence/neighbor's house. Davey agreed to come out same-day to take a look. All was going well at first. But then they never let me know that they came out (they had left a piece of marketing collateral in my door but that's it) until I emailed to follow up. The customer service rep then looped in the arborist on the email thread who then sent a quote. They quoted me $2,000 to remove one tree! Can you say taking advantage of someone in need of service quickly? I had called my usual guys who had removed trees for about $400-500 previously, but they are smaller businesses who just didn't have any crews available in short order. I replied back, clearly seeing through this unfair anti-consumer practice, asking if they would consider negotiating on the price. Excerpt from my email: "Any wiggle room? This is very out of line with previous work I've had done." Expecting y'know, either a yes or a no, I instead got an extremely rude, unprofessional email back from Mr. Derek McDaniel of Davey's. Here's the excerpt: "I was there. If not [sic] how do you think my card got there? Im [sic] sure Mom and Pop tree companies can do it cheaper. Prices are slightly elevated because it is storm damage." SLIGHTLY elevated? Ha. And I never accused him of not being there. I agree, how else would the card he left in my door have gotten there? Such a rude response, and wow, very cool to act so high-and-mighty and take a dig at small businesses there guy. This estimator claimed to have been with Davey for 32 years. I honestly don't know how they've stayed in business so long if this is the type of people they promote. Happy ending to the story is I got another company to come out same-day also who did a wonderful job for cheaper and who were very friendly and professional. read more

We have had Davey Trees prune and trim our mature sized trees a couple of times over the past few years. Most impressive was the diagnostic work on our oak tree. Cory, their certified arborist, designed a treatment plan for our large, beautiful oak which had been attacked by a bacterial infection and a secondary disease. His plan has saved our tree. We have found Cory and the company to be quickly responsive to messages left. Cory listens to us, understanding what we want to do and offers suggestions, often better than we had thought. Every time they work on our trees, all debris is removed completely. We can not recommend them highly enough. read more

We had tree fall that caused some property damage, so our insurance company helped us find Davey to remove the tree. They came out same day to assess the damage, give us an estimate (very reasonable for such a large tree), and schedule the removal. Today they came to remove the tree and they were were professional, efficient, and made sure to remove it with safety as the top priority. We are very happy with their service and recommend them to anyone who needs tree removal. read more

Called and set-up an appointment to get an appraisal on treating a sick oak tree along with taking down several dead trees. The rep did not show-up or call within the 2 hour timeframe he gave us. 90 minutes AFTER the appt. window, he called to say he couldn't make it. We rescheduled for today and again no show and still no call several hours later. VERY unprofessional and inconsiderate. Inexcusable for any business and obviously they din't need the several thousand dollars of business I may have given them. read more

Avoid this company at all cost. Unethical liars. Didn't finish the job after contacting them multiple times only to have the staff lie to cover up the mistakes. Now they sent me to collections for a job they never fished. Where else can I post a review. read more

I am disappointed - I heard such great things about Davey. They planted a dogwood tree in May, and I had requested a specific color, which they had noted and acknowledged. When the crew came to plant, I double checked and was reassured that it was the color I requested. But of course, a few weeks later, the blooms appeared and it wasn't the color I requested. I sent in a photo to the company manager, and quickly heard back. His suggestion was to uproot the already planted tree and to replace it in the fall "to make things right." I responded saying that I did not think that solution was a good one, since I would already have invested into the already planted tree, not to mention the environmental costs of this and how wasteful it would be. My suggestion was a partial discount. I had not heard back despite multiple attempts to get in touch with the company. So now every spring I will have a reminder of this situation, and am now on the Davey distribution list, getting annoying brochures printed on a ton of paper, and contributing to environmental damage. We contacted Davey for a quote on tree removal. The certified arborist made his recommendations about condition of our tree. The came out to remove the tree when promised. However, the stump removal didn't come out until another week later. They left the site cleaned and filled. Good service overall. read more

Davey was the third company I called. Derek was very professional. Made his recommendations about health maintenance for our trees (certified arborist). The crew was at my house the day after I signed my contract, they were very professional as well. Much cheaper than Sav A Tree (please see my negative review). We have several large trees on our property and do maintenance to them every 2 to 4 years, Davey will be my vendor for that from now on. read more

The Davey rep came to the house this morning to see the tree sections we needed to have removed, provided a fair price, gave some options and was reasonable with his numbers. When an unexpected opening in the schedule came up in the afternoon to do the work itself, he called us and got the team there with the bucket truck and chipper within 20 minutes. Their crew was professional, very, very quick, careful and accurate. They cleaned the yard when they were done, blew the sawdust off the driveway and did everything exactly as we would have liked. While we hope WE don't need their services again, we recommend Davey Tree very highly for their work, their good attitudes and high standards. read more

I am SO IMPRESSED with Davey's service!! I had a gnarly old tree growing in a really inconvenient place on my property - wedged in a corner between the back of my townhouse and against my fenceline. The tree sat right on top of my gas line, which was why it needed to be removed, but just on the other side of the fence was my neighbor's power, telephone, cable, and FiOS. Davey Tree removed my neighbor's fence and delicately handled his FiOS cable, which was not buried. They removed the tree and ground the stump, carefully navigating the area chock full of utilities. When they were done, they left my property cleaner than they found it. Because that tree was wedged in the corner up against the house and the fence line, I hadn't been able to rake back there since I've owned this house. There was a lot of leaves and all kinds of garbage piled up back in that corner. After replacing my neighbor's fence, they raked my property and removed that garbage, even packing out the leaves and the garbage with them. I don't normally write reviews, but Davey Tree went so above and beyond that it merits special attention. I'll be using Davey Tree for all of my future needs. read more

Working with Joe B., District Manager for Davey in Chantilly, VA, we had planned trimming and pruning of several trees in my front yard for yesterday, Tuesday, August 6. On Saturday morning, August 3, a large tree in my back yard fell to earth without warning. Fortunately, there was no damage to people or property, just a huge mess. I emailed Joe that morning, a Saturday, to let him know we had a bigger fish to fry in addition to the already scheduled work. I told him weekend emergency work was not needed. He emailed back very quickly to let me know he would be at my house first thing Monday morning. After looking at the work needed to clean up the downed tree, Joe wrote up and printed an amended contract proposal from his car. He said he had checked scheduling and removal of the downed tree could be combined for the next day with the already scheduled trimming and pruning. I thought the price he quoted for the additional work was fair and reasonable, and we signed the contract. Yesterday morning, the crew and their vehicles and equipment arrived on time. The crew was very courteous as we reviewed the work to be done. They then got right to it and worked relentlessly. They completed all the work by mid-afternoon, and now my back yard looks the same as it did earlier (minus one large tree) and the trimmed and pruned trees in the front yard look great. Be careful with this company and their shady business practices! A so called "arborist" came over my house and provided me with a quote. The charges for trimming our tree were twice than that quoted by other company but we figured they were experts and so the high prices. I was asked to submit the signed quote by either fax or mail and was assured that no work would be performed without my knowledge. Although i was hesitant, i submitted the signed quote. After several weeks of calling regarding the status of the quote and waiting for an answer from "the arborist" or anybody in the office, we decided to hire a different contractor for less than half the price. A few weeks ago we received a bill from Davey tree. We were pretty sure it was a billing error until i contacted them and was told that they performed the work. I told them that the tree had been trimmed over a month before by a different company. In fact, the alleged day of service, i was home and there was no crew on site! After many more calls, i was able to speak to the "arborist" and was told that he had sent a crew and although they noticed that the tree had been trimmed, they trimmed it again. I have reported them to BBB and Fairfax County Consumer Affairs but want to warn others looking through this site. Angie's List only consider reviews from memebers so they will not consider my review. Other residents in my community have complained about the poor quality of work performed by their hired day laborers. read more
