each one of my trees were trimmed to look like the letter P. I realize that the request was to trim the trees so they are 3 feet from the building and also raise the canopy. But I did not expect they would have no sense of making the trees look beautiful. They look ridiculous. The girl on the team was odd -- was afraid of me and would not look me in the eyes. The team also left tree trimmings in the street gutter which I had to clean up. I will never use this company again. I'm very disappointed with this company!!! Terry came out to our house to give us an estimate on removing 5 trees and grinding the stumps in addition to trimming and shaping several trees for us. Terry spent less than 5 minutes reviewing what needed to be done and then told us he would email the estimate to us that evening. (His computer needed to be charged.) Well, that was over 5 days ago still no estimate!!! But, when he was here he's rough estimate was between 5 and 6 thousand dollars to do the job. We had a very large tree branch fall from our property and block the street. City took care of the original branch but then cited us for overgrown trees. Davey tree was very responsive in coming out and assessing the offending trees and then fit us in their busy schedule as quick as possible to avoid fines. After the trimming was done they walked us around and showed us what they did and provided recommendations for the future. Will be calling them again for our tree needs! read more

Excellent customer service. Because of the setup of our backyard, to bring down the trees, they couldn't use the cherry picker. Climbing the tree, they skillfully brought each branch down avoiding the many structures/objects in our backyard. They are true craftsmans when it comes to tree removal! read more

Lupe, Carlos and their crew did an outstanding job heavily pruning five of our large trees and removing one. We've used numerous other tree services over the last 25 years and Davey's work was the most professional trimming these trees have ever received--truly the work of skilled arborists with a good sense of aesthetics. Today at safelite a woman from this company was picking up a company truck. She was in line behind me and rather than wait her turn she went around me and interrupted the person helping me to ask for her keys (this happened because he thought I was as picking up her car). I understand she was probably frustrated by the wait from the person before me, but so was I, and I had been listening to him complain much longer than the Davey employee. The thing is, I'm currently gathering quotes for my tree trimming service, and this company lost my business before they even had the chance to earn it because their employee did something so inconsiderate. read more

I am very pleased, 3 stars to 4 stars. ORIGINAL POST: The following is verbatim from the customer survey response I submitted to the company. If I get a response, I will update my review: Our cumulative Davey experience has been mixed. Multiple times that the representative was scheduled to come, he was late and we had to reschedule, which was frustrating, but, it happens. The initial walkthrough was fine, the representative seemed knowledgeable and was helpful with questions. The estimated price of the work was rather high, we felt, but we understood that quality work comes at a price, so we weren't too bothered. Some of the work seemed to have been done decently well, particularly in the backyard. The front yard work, however, was shoddy. A dead dogwood tree was removed, which was supporting a large overgrown shrub. Many branches of the dogwood were simply left, cut, in the shrub without removal. Then, a few days after the work was done, the shrub collapsed and snapped several large branches of the adjacent lime tree. I explained the above to the representative, who took 2 weeks to come out to view it (he explained that he was on vacation for one of the weeks, which is understandable), though again he was late. What was particularly frustrating is that there was no ownership of responsibility for the mediocre work done, or the subsequent damage to the tree and shrub. I was quoted a ridiculous price for it to be managed, when my thought was that it should be covered at no additional cost. When I objected, the representative made a BIG deal about how much he was discounting the work to me, and came down to a lower but still high cost. I will not be paying Davey to come back and fix their work. In sum, I think much of the work was well done, albeit overpriced, but some of the interactions have been disappointing, and I'll likely go elsewhere for my arboreal needs in the future. read more

A huge 140 yr old oak tree fell on our house on Jan 8th. Despite the devastation over the entire region John Arnett had the Davey Tree crew on site with in 24 hrs. Working quickly but safely Pasquale and his team got the tree down off the house and allowed us to effect repairs to the roof and get our power back on. They are worth every penny and we would never use anyone else. read more

Their communication was REALLY lacking. Aside from that, our tree has died :( I keep trying to make a payment but am not able to do so using their system. Had a great experience with Davey tree expert. I called with an emergency situation as a large Birch in our front yard was tilting badly after a wind storm. The manager Matt came the same morning and provided a written quote within an hour via email. The crew showed up early the next morning before another job to make it all safe before returning that afternoon at the agreed upon time to grind up all the pieces. I started using the Sacramento company because of an insurance claim years ago. John comes out and we go over needed tree work and his crew is the best. They are insured so no worries with an injury but the tree work is always the best. We met with a scheduler/arborist back in October 2020. He said it would probably be end of November to do the job. He contacted us a few weeks later and said probably the end of December. He emailed us on 12/30/2020 and asked if a crew could come out the next morning between 8AM - 8:30AM. Not the best customer service, but not the worst either. However, the crew we got to do the actual work was spectacular. They listened to us, and diligently went about doing their jobs. They were upbeat, congenial, and we thoroughly enjoyed working with them. We would have given 5*, if not for the issues listed in the first paragraph. I am a demanding and picky customer. On almost a yearly basis I have had Davey Tree help me with all my huge trees. They always do an excellent job. This week, Lupe, the crew chief, Esmeralda and the "tall, new guy" worked on 3 sets of trees. Excellent work. Esmerelda can move a big rig onto a postage stamp and Lupe is a great bucket man. This is my first one star review on yelp. We hired Davey, soley because my wife wanted 'professionals' to trim our larger trees instead of me. The experience started off well enough - Davey sent a license Arborist to our house. We told him what we wanted and he wrote it all down and gave us an estimate. Compared to other places the estimate was fairly high for how small the job was, but we went with it. Flashforward to the actual guys who showed up to do the work (definitely not licensed anything), and two hours later the hack job they did on the trees almost literally my wife in tears. They did nothing as we had described we wanted it done. The work order said 'prune lightly' and we were left with trunks/stumps. read more

I scheduled appointments with multiple tree removal companies to gather quotes, but had to cancel them because Davey Tree Expert Co removed my tree without notice or approval. Davey did not call me to confirm an appointment. They removed my tree while I was at work - without notice! Because of the unexpected removal, none of our key concerns about the tree could be addressed, which was extremely frustrating. Besides the special circumstances we had pertaining to the removal, we didn't get the chance to gather multiple quotes. It felt like we were robbed - like we were taken advantage of. It has to be illegal to enter someone's property without permission and cut down their tree without notice. I'm still shocked this can actually happen. Davey management never returned my calls. I finally requested the manager's email address. Not only was it not provided, but I didn't get a call from him. Instead, the arborist who originally gave us the estimate called me back. After him trying to talk me in circles (again), we finally ended up knocking hundreds of dollars off the invoice in an attempt to reach an agreement. I still don't feel the situation was fair, but after all of this I just wanted it to be over. We ended up calling their corporate office to report the issue, because I don't want this happening to anyone else. We spoke with a representative who took my information and story and said she'd call me back. She never did. I was sorely disappointed, but not surprised in the least. Now I see where the local Sacramento office gets their lack of professionalism. The "new" invoice arrived, but it was at full price - not the revised price. I just can't believe it... Davey Tree did a great job cleaning up three large trees in our front yard-- one of them an old sycamore by the sidewalk that had already dropped a dead branch causing over $4,000 in damage to a parked car. The other two pecan trees belong to a neighbor and routinely drop messy litter on our driveway. Our cars are always a mess. Matt Morgan came by to discuss the health of the trees and explain how much he could (and couldn't) prune. His crew showed up late in the day and hadn't quite finished by dark, so they returned early the next morning and cleaned everything up. They were really courteous and thorough. A second guy came a couple of weeks later to inject the pecan trees with a compound to control aphids, which I learned are one of the causes of the sticky mess on the driveway. I should mention I contacted two other tree services; one did a drive-by and the quote was more than double Davey. The second tree service didn't respond to my request. read more

From estimating to execution, service was great. Got an estimation appointment very quickly, Terrence was professional and courteous. Received estimate in writing in a day or two. I got on the schedule during my window. The crew came out today and got the trucks situated to cause minimal impact on neighbors. They took down a 50' ish Birch in jig time safely, neatly, and following my requests. No damage, neat cleanup. Every member of the crew courteous and respectful. I took the chips for my yard and glad to have them. They cleaned up around the chipper and everything back to normal. I highly recommend and I would use them again. read more

Terrence, Pedro and their crew trimmed my heritage Valley Oak. The goal was to get the branches off of the roof of my house and away from the fire place outlet. In addition, I wanted to reduce weight and canopy on an overhanging branch. This is the third time in about 15 years this tree has been trimmed and Davey is bar far the best. They are very knowledgeable and focused on the health of this precious tree and they did a fantastic job. I recently had a tree project to install 7 trees (3 redwoods, 3 Maples, 1 elm) all in 24 inch boxes. After getting bids from about 6 different companies we decided on Davey because of their good reputation and because Anatoliy was very professional knowledgeable and willing to work with my budget. Day of install Anatoliy was onsite to make sure everything was done correctly which I appreciated. I really want to commend Javier, Max and Pasqual for their work on install. They were FANTASTIC, professional and went out of their way to makes sure everything was done to my satisfaction, even going so far as to help suspend my neighbor's tree because it was a hazard to the new trees. I went online to schedule an appointment for someone to come out and look at some trees I needed cleaned up. Within an hour I was contacted and within a few hours Anatoliy was at my home providing a bid. He was very friendly and helpful and even offered to grind out some tree trunks we had previously cut down. He provided a bid while he was there and let me know they were 4 weeks out. I let him know the sooner they could complete the work the better it worked for us. He was able to keep me scheduled within 2 weeks. On the day of the scheduled work, Anatoliy and three other men showed up at my house right on time . Anatoliy went over with his men what work was to be completed so as not to miss anything and they did a fantastic job. They were completely professional and very thorough. He came out to give us an estimate, a few minutes of walking around with not much to say until we started asking questions. We knew our trees had grown beyond our ability to groom them. With all the weather reports of an El Niño winter coming, we knew we wanted them professionally trimmed- we've spent too many years taking care of them to risk loosing them to a non- professional. We had a terrible experience with Davey. We have an older tree that started dropping large branches this past spring when the wind would blow. Davey was highly recommended to us so we entered a contract with them as did our neighbors. Although our trees are about the same size and age, we were mysteriously charged $500 more for the same work. When the first wind came this fall, several branches fell from our tree 8 to 10 feet and 4 inches in circumference. Ironically, there were no branches that fell from either of our neighbors trees. I phoned Davey to understand why so many branches were falling and two different managers gave me the run around without answering my questions. I was concerned the tree may not have been trimmed correctly. When I pressed, the manager hung up on me; unprofessional, rude, immature, and lacking customer empathy. You have been warned. John was great to work with. He went over everything with me and finalized the scope of work. The supervisor in charge showed up on time with his team and the right trucks to do the job. They worked as a team extremely well, was opened to me asking questions and making little adjustments. I have used Davey Tree several times over the years at my previous residence and again here in my Folsom home. Tree work can be costly. While Davey may not appear to be the cheapest they have always provided me with excellent analysis including alternate no cost methods. In fact, there have been times when Davey recommended preventive treatment I could do myself without removing the tree(s) and/or large bushes. Recently their arborist, John, came to my home to inspect my birch trees. I was ready to pay to have one of them removed. John talked me out of removal and proceeded to show me how to help the tree. He also checked the health of other trees on my property and explained what I could do to help them. (There was no charge for his time.) Summary: this professional licensed tree company is the definition of excellent customer service and that alone makes them a very reasonable low cost company! read more

My husband and I are so exceptionally pleased with this company. Not only did they give us a comprehensive quote and evaluation of our trees and the services that might be needed, but they prepared an initial quote and were flexible in giving us estimates for different combinations of services depending on what we could do all at once. We were happy to find that they confirmed a tree was very sick in our backyard and could easily and safely be removed (perfectly done without affecting my surrounding grass btw), and that our front tree was actually very healthy and only needed some trimming in the canopy (whew). The crew was on-time, friendly, and asked us questions about our preference on final trimmings to lift up the tree or keep the canopy lower for shade. They were so great at communication and cleaning up. I have nothing but respect for this professional crew and their knowledgeable service. OUTSTANDING. Thank you! We have a 20 year old, 40 foot mixed plant hedge across the front of our home's courtyard: Photinia, Cherry Laurel, Podocarpus and Crepe Myrtle. The hedge stood about 30 feet tall and 20 feet wide and we wanted it all brought down and in. We called Davey, they completed a site visit, talked to us at length, and then we settled on the work. About a week later, an estimate arrived and agreeing, we schedules a time. The two man crew arrived on time and with a bucket. The Lead was an Arborist; he showed us where previous cuttings were made and explained the issues with the poor cuts and explained how he would be cutting and trimming the hedge. First all of the reachable ground cutting was completed. The bucket arrived and two and one half hours later, we have a hedge that still looks natural without any bare blunt cut branches visible. The shape of each of the full grown trees and bushes still look as if they have never been trimmed - while the height was reduced by almost five feet and the width by almost three feet on each side. The Arborist worked with one of us on the ground - accepting suggestions for how dramatic to cut and we appreciated the respect shown us while helping us make good choices. After all the cutting was completed, only then did they start the wood chipper for the branches that were 2-3-inches or more wide. All of the cuttings were cleaned up and once they left, with the exception of a reduced sized hedge, you would not know they were ever there. We will call Davey back in two years to continue to rein in the size of the hedge. They did a great job! read more
