A lot, I'll explain. I NEVER walk into a hair salon expecting miracles. I am a ballerina but I am horrible at styling and cutting my own hair, when such styling and maintenance is needed. Jona, the stylist and owner I believe, worked near- miracles on my hair. I left a lot to her discretion (as another reviewer wrote, I am not very decisive on my hair), and she did not disappoint. She explained what she was doing and demonstrated knowledge of her art; friendly and kind while focusing on her work. Ok- the hydrogen, helium and neon? They are all what are called 'noble gases' on the periodic table; like people, have pros and cons on their 'traits.' But my hair AFTER Jona dealt her magic and these noble gases: hydrogen is the lightest of the gases, and my hair felt fresh and light, not weighed down and dull; helium-- don't inhale it!-- but it is used in balloons; my hair had this floatability to it. Neon-- my hair felt effervescent and 'shiny,' but NOT in an artificial way. I felt wonderful. Those aficionados of 1980s music may remember 'Don't Get Me Wrong,' the Pretenders, 1986. . . 'I see neon lights/ whenever you walk by.' While in that case the neon lights are referring to another person-- I felt like a movie star . . .at least as long as Jona's haircut and style Lasted. :) Never mind that my own lack of skills with tresses meant that I could not maintain the look forever-- Jona did a great job. The salon is well-kept and organized; bright and well-lit but not gaudy. In very good taste. She is wonderful. Prices reasonable; certainly no more than elsewhere. I had hair style and makeup for my photo shoot. Turned out hair looks great, but not makeup. And they were both NOT WORTH FOR THE PRICE. I'm not happy. I wanted to look natural and the lady used air brush, but I could see the pores on my skin and makeup didn't last longer. I hated pink eye shadow. Maybe it's not about the color, but my eye makeup looked something wrong. Well, I needed to instruct how I want to look preciously, so it's maybe part of my fault... But anyway, I looked very old, so I wasn't happy for makeup. On the photo shoot, I looked like tired, not enough sleep or had cry before. I requested to curl my hair and it turned out gorgeous! I loved it! That was the good part! At the cashier, I showed the voucher I purchased on yelp ($30 for $50), then I paid remaining balance which was $70!!! Seriously? It was $120 in total for hair & makeup. I'm not talking about bridal event. I didn't even get bridal look!! The cashier lady told me it's $55 for hair curling (even if it's stated $45 on website. Was my hair too much?) and $65 for air brush make up. Just curling costs higher than cut & style and air brush makeup costs higher than bridal makeup. How could this happen... If it's worth it, willing to pay, but not happy at all. Well again it maybe my fault. I regret not asking the price over the phone when I made an appointment. I would respect and rely on the professional who takes care of the customers knowing what they want regarding with photo shoot and she should tell the price beforehand. There is no hospitality and welcoming either. Store is very clean, but no music. Very quiet and peace. Decor wasn't my taste at all, but it's ok. They opened early 8:30am for me, so I appreciated that part. I think this place is only for local people who made bounds to the staffs here for long time. I will not be coming back again. read more

I came here since I recently moved to Glenview from downtown, and they were having a $30 cut and style special for new clients. It doesn't say so on their website, but the coupon was only valid for one stylist, Natasha. I have to say that she gave me one of the best haircuts ever! I brought in some photos of what I was looking for (medium length, side-swept bangs, layers in back, and face-framing layers in front), and Natasha was able to replicate it exactly. She was also very sweet, friendly, and paid attention to detail. She took her time to make sure that it was perfect, so it did take about an hour and a half. I am very picky about my bangs and usually end up cutting stray hairs myself when I get home, but this was not necessary with my haircut from Natasha. The salon itself is cute, small, and no-frills. There's only like four hair-cutting stations and two hair-washing stations. If I was paying $50 for a haircut, I may have expected more luxuries, such as being offered something to drink when arriving, but for the price I paid, I can't complain. Best colorist in the world works here and her name in Erika. She's been doing my color for years now and I've joked that if she left I would follow her or fly her in from where ever she moved to. The salon is super cute and unpretentious. I've never walked away unsatisfied with my color. Ok maybe once.. but not because my hair looked bad. It was because I was crazy and INSISTED on going super dark with my hair and it was too much of a shock for me. I called Erika and said it was too much of a dramatic change overnight and she gladly lightened my hair up and it turned out perfectly. Next time I should just listen to her. Erika is very knowledgeable and understands my "Mexican" hair very well. Everyone is very personable and you walk out looking like a million bucks without feeling like you spent a million bucks. I definitely would recommend this salon... it's worth the drive. And girls know... it doesn't matter how far the salon is...if you know you're going to be leaving with gorgeous hair it's well worth it! read more

This is a really great salon. The staff is very nice and professional. The environment is relaxed and calming. I moved to Glenview in last June. I had tried several different salons but failed. I have very resistant and thick hair and had many experiences of a bad color. This problem did not bother Natasha. She colored the root of my greys and the color matched perfectly. Natasha also gave me a very best hair cut. She did the layers right and corrected the errors last stylist made. Now my hair looks bouncy and cute, exactly what I want. I think this is because she is very nice and patient in communicating with me upfront for what I wanted and exactly understood my need. Natasha is so sweet. When I called to make the reservation, I got to know their working hour is up to 6:00PM only. Since I had to work until 5 that day, I almost gave up the reservation. While I really need to correct my hair for an event the next day. Natasha was so nice and offered to meet me at 5:30 and spend 2 hours to do my hair right. Thank you Natasha ! I live 15 mins away & there are fancier & more luxury-oriented salons closer to my house, but the consistently excellent service & work of the Daymaker keeps me going back. I have seen Natasha, Yona & Diana-- all of them are excellent. Natasha is a whiz with color, and all of them do a perfect blow-out for $30. They are kind of like family now, I bring the kids in no problem, we discuss current events. But the kernel here is they are really good at what they do, for reasonable prices. read more

This was my first time at the Day Maker Salon and it was great! Natasha did my daughters and my hair and we walked out of there looking beautiful. She did a color, haircut and blow-dry on my hair and it was amazing I have thick curly hair so I'm not to impressed when I get a blow-dry but this time my hair was silky smooth so impressed! She cut and blow-dry my daughters hair it was also amazing! She was very friendly actually the whole staff was and very professional she took her time and was well worth it.. I went there to get my hair done for the Jewish Holidays. I got my hair dyed by the colorist and I forgot her name. But Yona was supposed to be cut my hair. I made the month a month ago. She had to many customers so she couldn't cut or style my hair, the colorist did it. If I had gone to the Haircuttery it would have been cut better. I paid $100 dollars. At least I had a touch up. I would like to add my slice of opinion especially it's yelp's reviews brought me to their salon couple years ago. The quick update is -- Matthew is no longer there. I gave 5 star to the owner and 3 star to his wife Silvana and that's how it comes out at 4 star. For a few years, I had my hair cut by a stylist I really like. A while ago, she retired and closed her salon, but still cut my hair since we are friends now. With the fact that she's traveling a lot now, I knew I might should start looking for great stylist who can cut my hair right for just in case she's traveling etc. So couple years ago, the good reviews on Yelp (especially for Matthew) brought me to Day Maker salon. I had few hair cut with Matthew and his skills and attitude totally worth every penny he charges -- $50. I went back there again recently but found out things has changed. Matthew has left and now there are 3 cutters -- the owner Edmond, owner's wife Silvana, and a new person Carmen--?. I asked for someone with about the same skill level and price range as Matthew and was recommended Silvana . But it turned out to be a big mistake. Couple weeks ago, I read a review somewhere about a cutter in Day Maker being very rude and burned her hair, and now I'm guessing that might for her. And the only thing she said was 'Okey'. Through the cutting process, she constantly stopped and turn around to chat to other people (another employee, a friend, her father etc). The cut was awful and she gave me the cut exactly I told her wont' work for my hair. It's not even better than a $10 cut, and definitely not worth the $50 she charges. When she blow dry my hair, she hold the hair-dryer very close to my scalp and brush my hair very hard with a round brush with mental barrel, and trust me, it was very very hurt. I decided to give her 3 star and not 2 since I consider that maybe cutting my hair exposed the worst part of her skill, but for the rude attitude, I can't cut her any slack. Now, about the owner Edmond, he is a different story. He is friendly and has been always find a time to greet me while I was in the salon. And he stepped in when he thought he should and showed her how to make the cut right, how to brush and style with the same brush without hurting people. And I do appreciate that he saved my disaster. He talks to other people too, but none of that affects his work. You can tell that he has very good skills, high standard and care about every customer's satisfaction. In summary, my hair was all right after Edmond saved it. If I will ever go back again, I'll only get cut from him, if I can persuade myself to spend $80 on hair cut each month. read more

I originally went here on a discount for new clients and based on Yelp reviews. Glad I did! Easy parking, not a lot of hoopla of some salons and focused on the customers. Natasha did a great job and has continued to do so in 3 haircuts since that first. She is pleasant to talk to and focused on what's best for my hair. Long story short the same person cut my hair from the time I was 10 years old until I was 35...after we parted ways I had a few people and was never really very happy. I have now been with Edmond and Silvana for a couple years now and I can honestly say that I have never been happier! They take the time to listen to what you really want, but will also make educated suggestions...and they are VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE and PROFESSIONAL! I hate getting haircuts. It's one of the major negatives in my middle class lifestyle that I just can't ignore. The ordinary people and their status judgements based solely on appearance is never ending. Either you win the flip of the coin with great natural hair and rarely have to think about it, or like me have a cowlick infested ghetto of unruly hair shaft types that really hate cooperating with pretty much every trendy hairstyle that honestly I have better things to do than research just to impress a bunch of status whoring mouthbreathers. Fortunately people like Edmond exist in nature. This man is a perfectionist of the highest regard. I sit there, "Make me look good" I say, and this mastercraftsman simply does it. One might think that he is simply cutting hair, and that's true, but it's akin to saying that Michelangelo was just chipping marble. Imagine being able to sit there, watching him creating his masterpieces 450 some years ago. Well you can. Except you are the one that steps out of his chair a masterpiece. A friend and I came for their Yelp special and I have to say they are all about service here. The second you walk in they take your coats and give you a robe to cover your clothes. The hairdresser then sits you down and consults you on the style of choice and they actually listen! My hairdresser asked me throughout the haircut if I approved and I have to say that is a first for me. This a great place to come and so worth the drive from the city! read more

What can I say about the Daymaker Salon, but only GREAT things! I have been going here upon recommendation my hair stylist. This place is in a fantastic location in downtown Glenview with parking in the back, which is very nice and safe from the outside elements. Even though I don't live around there (Schaumburg) it's alway a pleasure to visit and have a customized haircut that always looks great! Hair stylist Jonida is a trained professional and takes care of me each time providing the best service possible. She is very detail oriented and always makes sure her customers are satisfied. I highly recommend the Daymaker salon for your casual haircut to special events, they specialize in them all. In closing the mission statement on the wall says it all about Daymaker Salon: " Customers are not dependent on us - we are dependent on them." I went to this salon because I read great reviews and being that I'm new to the area I wanted to find a hairstylist close to home. Well... My appointment was at 1 and when I walked in at 1:02, I was greeted and told to wait couple of minutes. There were only 2 people at the salon - a stylist, who was finishing up her client and another woman behind the desk talking on the phone (changing her car insurance, as it turned out). I figured the stylist was running behind with her client and didn't mind waiting a few minutes. It turned out that the lady on the phone (Silvana) was the one I had an appointment with... I just thought it was very unprofessional for her to make me wait good 10 minutes, while she was next to me taking care of her personal stuff. As for my haircut - it was OK, nothing to write home about. I called back once and wanted to set up an appointment for my husband, on a certain day and time. Whoever I spoke with, said that at the time I was requesting Silvana takes her lunch-break. She said she would check if she could switch, to which Silvana's answer was 'no'. All in all, I would have given this salon another try, but it is run so unprofessionally that just dealing with them irritates me. read more

I went to this salon because of the good reviews i saw online. I am so disappointed. I explained to the stylist-carmen what i wanted, pointed out a picture of what i wanted it to look like (magazine provided by the salon of short hair styles). I let her know that i liked the natural wave/curl in my hair and needed a cut to compliment that. she states in order to cut it she needs to blow dry it out. i have never been to a stylist that has experience with curly hair that will blow dry it straight. previous salons have put me under a diffuser, something that won't take out the curl. then she proceeds to use an iron to straighten it even more. it looked nothing like what i asked for. i mention that the cut doesn't show how it would best suite a hair with a curly wave. first she says this would be just the 'foundation cut', why would it take two trips to the salon to get your hair done? her next explaination was that i needed to come in with my hair already curly/wavy. funny thing, that was how my hair was coming in. Also i would like to point out if you wash hair before cutting it doesn't matter how your hair is styled before you come into a salon. even with my hair straight, the style still looks awful. I will never return to this salon, this stylist obviously is limited to one style: blow dry and straighten. read more

Absolutely amazing salon! I got a haircut from Carmen and color by Erika and walked out of the salon feeling like a rock star! I was hesitant at first, worried that I wouldn't get the "hip" look I was looking for, but I was pleasantly surprised. Carmen and Erika are completely up to date on all the newest trends in hair and are at the cutting edge of hair styling. I was welcomed warmly and attended to promptly. I just had one of the best haircuts I have ever had in my life. I went to Diana for a few haircuts and then by accident made an appointment to get my hair cut with Natasha. I have had such good haircuts from the Daymaker Salon but this one was one of the best ever. I left with my hair curly - I have been waiting for that for years! I moved to Glenview 2 years ago from the city and was looking for a new stylist. I came upon The Daymaker Salon and made an appointment with Dyanna. She gave me one of the most precise haircuts I have ever had. She takes a full hour cutting my hair and I have never left dissapointed. I always get compliments after a cut. I referred my mom who is also very happy with her. It is a cute salon and everyone that works there is really nice. I also think that it is a very fair price for the quality of the cut.
