He took the time to understand the style I wanted and recommended the type of perm that would be best for me. Since I came to the salon around 5 pm, there wasn't enough time to do both services that day. But thankfully Sam was able to fit me in for a weekend appointment. When I came back, Sam went over the perm design with me again to make sure we were on the same page. I was honestly worried about damaging my hair since I had just colored it a few days earlier, but Sam reassured me and explained everything throughout the process. He checked the condition of my hair frequently, and whenever I had questions, he explained what products he was using. That really showed his professionalism and put me at ease. The assistants were also very attentive and kept checking to make sure I was comfortable, which made the whole experience relaxing. The best part was the final result. Even when my hair was still wet after the wash, I already knew I loved it. As he dried my hair, Sam showed me how to style and dry it at home, so I could style it the same way myself. I absolutely love how my hair turned out. It looks exactly the way I wanted, and I'm so happy with the result. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a designer who is thoughtful and genuinely cares about his clients.

I get the digital perm where they do magic straight perm on the top and curls on the bottom. I like my hair to look like it's been curl ironed so she picks out the perfect curl size for me. I've tried several styles and Ms. Ahn perfects the styles every time. Now I stick to the one I like, since I've going to Ms. Ahn for many years (10+). This is premium Korean hair care. There's always a saying "you get what you pay for". I've tried other spot in Chicagoland and it's not what you would get at Kim Sun Young. Sure, I can pay cheaper but the quality I got was not the same, so I always return to Ms. Ahn to take care of my hair. With my digital perm, she explains to me how to care for my curls, and also let me know how the condition of my hair/scalp is and what I need to do to get improve my hair health. I made an appointment about 3 weeks in advance for a Friday morning digital perm. It typically takes 3-4 hours for the perm. With my iPad and AirPod, time flies by while I'm watching the show. They also have a small "earcap" that looks like a shower cap so your ears are protected & my AirPod. I get a cut first, then a perm. Friday afternoon with 3 hair professionals and 2 assistants. They are busy because they are able to work simultaneous while the perm client is waiting for perm chemical to settle into the hair, they can do a hair cut.

The TL;DR is that I was unable to get my hair coloring done and also got a haircut that was not very flattering. I felt I looked better when I came in vs when I came out of the salon. This was all despite the effort I made to contact this salon multiple times beforehand to ensure that they were able to do the hair that I wanted. In January, I had my hair cut and permed in Los Angeles, which I was happy with, but I wanted to also make my hair blonde with this hair style (I'm a Korean American with dark hair). I confirmed with my hairstylist in LA as well as the internet that you should wait a while to bleach your hair to space out the damage, at least ~4 weeks. I currently live in Cleveland, OH for grad school and heard there aren't many good salons in OH for Asian hair. So I did my research, found this salon in Chicago with good ratings, read through ratings, looked through photos, and then first messaged them on instagram to set an appt. I sent them reference photos of the color I wanted, plus a current selfie showing my hair to ask if what I wanted was possible. I also explained I was going to be driving in from Cleveland (took me 7 hours since I avoided tolls) so I wanted to really make sure before I made the trip. I told them also about my perm from weeks ago (it was going to be over 7 weeks since the perm for the appt day I asked for). I also called 24 hours later directly to the salon since I didn't get a response on instagram right away. The person on the phone booked me with Michelle. I then proceeded to explain my situation and told them I sent them photos on instagram. The woman on the phone tried to reassure me saying "it's okay, Michelle can do whatever color. Don't worry about it." I took their word. They also responded on instagram confirming they could book me an appt and gave me an estimate of pricing (starting around $350) and time range (3-4 hours) based on the color I wanted. The day of my appt, I show Michelle my pictures and what I want. She starts rambling about how the color I want is not possible, or needs to be bleached multiple times because my hair color is too dark. I was asking her to clarify if that meant I have to come in on different days to get it done, and she wasn't very clear and eventually just said, "It's okay, we will figure it out. For now, you need a haircut right?" So we cut my hair to a length I was satisfied with, but since it wasn't dried/styled yet, I wasn't sure what the finished product would look like yet. Then we went back to discussing color. First, she tells me, "okay, we can bleach multiple times, but it may take a long time, maybe even 6 hours. Is that ok?" I said yes (I knew it might take a long time so I purposefully asked for their earliest appt time that day). "And it's going to be around $400-500. Is that ok?" I said yes again. THEN she says, "oh, and the bleach is going to flatten your perm, so you won't have your perm anymore." This is when I was stunned and hesitated and asked for time to think. I was already starting to worry about whether the color would actually look okay on me based on Michelle's initial response to my request, but then to also not have my perm that I had paid for before but I still wanted to be a part of my overall hairstyle? I was incredibly disappointed. I was definitely ignorant of how this hair stuff worked, but that's why I tried doing my research beforehand and asked them multiple times, sending them pictures and explaining my situation BEFORE I planned a trip 7 hours away by car. I don't have many free weekends, so this was also difficult for me to schedule. Eventually I declined the color because I didn't want to risk not liking the final color AND losing my perm. But I wish the staff, all the people I talked to here, told me BEFORE I made the trip to Chicago, and BEFORE she cut my hair. I honestly would not have gotten my haircut had I known I wasn't going to get color. I know cheaper hair salons for hair cuts in the area and might've opted for another place if I wanted one (my hair was already short, but the haircut price was still $70). The staff didn't necessarily act rude or anything, but they clearly failed to take my situation into consideration despite all of my effort and wasted my time, money and energy. And honestly I don't like the hair cut. I look like Johnny Depp from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; the lack of layers is not flattering. I have to pull my hair back daily to look decent. I'm just sad this happened and they may be competent at hair, but the inconsiderate communication was really disappointing.

You are dealing with many personalities. A really good receptionist knows how to make a customer always want to come back. Here is my experience tonight. I am horrified. I called yesterday. I gave the salon more than 24 hours notice just as I was told to do. I spoke to a lovely receptionist. I explained to her that heavy storms were coming in with many warnings. I did not want to drive in this weather. They were predicting tornados, hail and heavy winds. She was absolutely lovely to talk to and understood. I also explained to her that I did not want to get a fee for rescheduling. She said she understood and would take care of it. She also told me to call in the morning and let them know once I saw what the weather was like. I followed her advice and immediately called in the morning. I rescheduled my appointment. No problem, At 6:30 tonight Gail called (the other receptionist.) as obnoxious as can be and told me I did not follow the rules. She was going to place a fee on me. I believe it was $25. She kept saying we talked about this and would not stop. I honestly thought she was a broken record. I followed the rules. I did nothing wrong. I will tell you the right does not know what the left is doing. There is no communication between receptionists. This was a power trip and under no circumstances she was going to win. She was determined. That was obvious. Salons are customer service oriented. You have to be this way if you are going to keep your customers. They want the customers to be relaxed by their services. I don't know if Gail got off the wrong side of the bed or if something was going on in her life. She sure took it out on me. I am not going to tolerate this behavior. Nobody should. I wonder if the owners know how she is treating the customers. She cancelled my appointment because she said I did not follow the rules. At this point, I hung up on her. Nobody should ever be treated this way under any circumstances. It was horrifying to say the least. If you want to be abused by a receptionist then I would recommend going here. I am just flabbergasted by the way I was treated. I am in the salon every month. I am not a walk in. I am also surprised that neither of the owners reached out to me. This says it all!

I specifically asked for my bangs to be below my eyebrows and she made a rookie mistake of cutting it at my eyebrows when wet. Anyone with bangs know that once dry, it gets a bit shorter. plus she didn't cut it evenly or symmetrically. In the attached pictures, one is a picture of the bangs I showed the stylist (of the bangs I wanted), the one that looks very short is the bangs I left with right after (she styled it with a round brush and dryer), and the third one is the next day after I washed my hair and combed it down- you can see it's not even straight or symmetrical.. thankfully this will grow out in about 3-4 weeks but it's devastating with the holiday season, Christmas is in a few days and New Years next week with lots celebrations and my hair will look like I cut and messed up my own bangs. the rest of my hair was decently cut - though when looking at it, it's hard for the eyes not to go to the bangs that were so obviously messed up. I would have been understanding if they told me they gave me a junior or student stylist and I wish she would have just told me she isn't comfortable cutting bangs as it would have been better if she just left it alone.

Sure this is just one person's low maintenance needs. But honestly it's a big ask for a stylist - give me a nonboring haircut, but I don't want it to look like crap when I don't style it. No one else has been able to do achieve that for me. And from the time I've spent in the waiting area/waiting for my hair to dye, etc, and seeing other clients come through, it is clear Shana strives to understand each person's needs individually. And of course she's always offering advice based on each person (that you should always listen to!) All the things I said in my previous review are true still, she is of course a skilled technician. Taken into a dimly lit room and was laid flat in my chair. From there hair washed and washed again. Several treatments added and got an awesome scalp massage. Hair then rinsed with a rainfall like tool. It was so relaxing! Got to the chair and was given a neck and shoulder massage. Scalp was analyzed again and geez... it was so clean! Hair blow dryer and styled. Let me tell you, my hair was so soft and felt so clean and light. I'm hooked! Korean hair care, nail salons are on another level! Everyone should try this!

Joe, Joe, Joe...oh and Tony AND you can't forget about Ms. Magda. The BEST salon experience! This was my first time there but the minute I walked in the door and was greeted by everyone, customers included, I knew I was home. I've tried a handful of salons in the area and much to my surprise no one could get my color correct. I'm a natural blonde that likes natural blonder highlights. Somehow I always left those "other" places with coppery or strawberry hair...not this time! Joe REALLY has an eye for color and takes the time to get to know you first then make recommendations. Once he (everyone) gets to know you, the rest of the experience is like enjoying a big dinner with your closest family and friends all while being pampered (they should serve wine there). I finished my appointment by having a manicure done by Ms. Magda. What a SWEETHEART! She has a vibrant/nurturing personality that makes the pampering that much more enjoyable! Once again she took the time to get to know what I like and had me relax while "she" picked the colors and tried them on me. The color chosen was Passion! It's rare to find people that are so passionate about their creativity. This salon has just that. It's not just a hair cut or picking a color, it's an Art! It's like family at Jos and Anthony's! I have going to the boys salon for over 25 yrs. my kids used to sit on the wooden board when they were little and they continue to go. Even my daughter comes in from the city to have her hair done still now at age 25! Not only do you get a cut and a blow dry but most days you get a comedy review right from your comfy black chair! This is an old family type of shop- you see old friends, you meet new ones in a wonderful atmosphere. The coloring I get from Mila is terrific every time. She doesn't miss a beat even though I question her each and every time. She is ALWAYS right. I don't know how she does it, but I look younger and younger each time I sit in her chair! Where can you get that at another salon? Let's talk about pedicures- oh boy that is heaven for the tootsies! Magda and Diana know how to treat my feet right. If you want to renew your feet, sit in their chairs for an hour and give your feet a whole new beginning! Forget about those $29.99 special at other shops. I recently moved to Highland Park from Texas and was in search of a good hairstylist. I read good reviews about Joseph and Anthony's and booked an appointment for my husband and myself with Mila.. Wow was I pleased. She took her time to listen to me and also made suggestions for my cut based on my face shape and hair texture. The cut was funky and modern. I literally can wash and go or style it several different ways. She also did a color with a hint of deep purple low light that framed my face. I have gotten tons of compliments. My husband's was also thrilled with Mila. Everyone at the shop is super friendly. They offer coffee, tea and cookies. It's a great atmosphere. We will be going back and Mila is def my new hairstylist. She ROCKS. read more

I have been a patron of Joseph Anthony Salon for 25+ years! You will not find a more efficient, professional, and dedicated salon to meet the needs of their clients. Their knowledge of hair coloring, highlights, touch ups, and hair styling is fabulous. I have recommended this salon to friends and family. Everyone has been more than satisfied. What I most appreciate is their interest in what you want done!!! See Tony for superb styling and hair color. Joe is a wizard with highlight and low lights. My mom and I have been going to Tony for years. He is a great guy that always works hard to make sure the cut is what you want. He can also guide you towards a cut that will fit your face/style if you just want something different, but don't really know what exactly. Also, a bonus is that if you are having any life problems, Tony can solve those too at no extra cost. Tony is the man, and his prices are very reasonable. I have been going to Joseph & Anthony Salon for about 10 years. Tony, one of the owners has always cut and styled my hair to perfection. He makes my visits enjoyable with his great conversation and sense of humor. Mila who is responsible for my highlights is a gifted artist who is creative and focused. My Mom has been going to Diane at Joseph and Anthony's Salon for many many years. When they relocated to Glenview I could not understand why she did not find somewhere closer to her home! I have been a customer of Joseph & Anthony's for 14 years. Mila has been my stylest for the past 8. I LOVE what she does with color and how she styles my hair. Mila Is one of the best when it come to a wonderful cut. I have been to many salons over the years and appreciate Milas knowledge of her kraft. Recently, I came in for a haircut and dye and the results were amazing! The haircut was done perfectly by Tony and the highlights by Joe. Tony put so much care in cutting my hair and Joe helped me pick the color for my highlights. I instantly fell in love with my new hairstyle. Several years ago I was referred to Mila at the Joseph and Anthony Hair salon in Glenview and have been there ever since. This salon has sufficient parking, as well as, a great staff where everyone is very friendly and welcoming. I have enjoyed having Mila as my stylist. She is true professional and is very talented. If you visit this salon, I strongly recommend Mila. You won't be disappointed. read more

Thanks Tony for the perfect hair cut and understanding that im obsessed with growing out my hair. I had the best experience at this salon more than any other salon I've been to! Everyone is so friendly and caring and you just can't help but to feel like you're part of the Italian family this salon and my experience was hands down the best! This was my first time to the salon and all I can say is "Bada Bing"! Joe spent so much time with me as I was blonde and wanted to go back to being a Brunette - he did a AMAZING job!!!! Highly recommend this salon. Be prepared to laugh the entire time - these folks need their own reality show. Fabulous prices as well! read more

There are few things better than trusting a professional to do what they do best while I... well, while I read a magazine and zone out. In this case, the expert colorist doctored my thirty-something sprouting grays back to my 'natural' twenty-something high/low lights. Then the stylist cut to precision: just within my safety zone--tastefully tweaked with enough style to stay on trend without conforming to fad--well inside regret (i.e. My Jennifer Aniston circa 1995 mistake). The colorists and stylists here are true masters in their field. There's clearly a lot of training and experience behind their work. I'm hard-pressed to prebook more than 2 weeks out, so I jump around per availability. Recommendations: Dawn, Judy, Jeff (Color) and Kelly, Helen, Cyndi (Style). Bottom line, I consistently leave a better looking me (obvious talent). But it's not just about beauty, balance is equally important--from the get go. Mind your own first impression: the receptionist greets you by name, asks about your last trip, then ensures you're legally parked. "Thanks, Stephanie. Yes, I will leave my worries at the door." Then it's ME TIME: relax, be comfortably silent or chat pleasant conversation, soak up the spa-like ambiance, faint coffee-house music, head massage, hot tea or cucumber water (and secretly flirt with lash extensions). While you're at it, Beauty & Balance, toss me a terrycloth robe, slippers, and wrap my satin sheets to go!
