Every once in a great while ( actually very seldom these days) you find a great place without expecting it!!! The deli & company is exactly that place. This is my second visit to this establishment. The first one. I took a sandwich home and it was very good this morning. I stopped in prior to an appointment and order a breakfast sandwich on croissant. It absolutely was the very best breakfast sandwich I have ever eaten. The ambience is wonderful. It's quiet. It's calm. The music is lovely. The owner very gracious always ask the folks when they come in how they're doing he's a busy man I can see that from here, but he's not too busy to say hey!! or ask how your visit was. If you have not tried this lovely little place in the old Mill on Main St., Saco you are definitely missing out. Hours are short. Looks like just breakfast and lunch so you better get here quick. We found this gem of a place through word of mouth and it did not disappoint! There are SEVERAL different sandwich options and they also have chips & a soda case. We ordered two hot sandwiches and they came out delicious & quick. The people running this place are so kind and attentive- offering to give us the run down of the menu and checking in a few times to make sure we enjoyed the food (of course we did). I've been grabbing to-go bites from this local establishment for years (chicken curry is amazing) and they recently had a bit of a facelift and it's so cozy inside. I can't believe I haven't updated my review since 2012, so here it is. The food is still great, though if I might not get what I want if I'm looking for a sandwich with beef in it. What's different is that the Saco Island Deli renamed themselves to The Deli and Company, and they've taken over some additional space so they can seat a lot more people. I don't go as much as I used to because I moved my office home before I retired and I'm just not in the neighborhood very often. Definitely go here for lunch, you won't be sorry. read more

I accidentally ordered the turkey reuben on their app and didn't realize it until I got back to my office and opened it (I'm sure they would have remade it if I had noticed at the store). I was a bit devastated, as I am not a fan of turkey at all. I ate it anyway because I was raised right and let me tell you that thing was FIRE. I almost swallowed it whole. The slaw is unmatched. Now I'm a little nervous to try the corned beef Reuben, if it tastes better than the turkey I might actually pass away. This is my second time coming here. Both times the food is amazing! I got the Turkey Roo-Ben, I've never had a Reuben sandwich before but a lot of people said this one was a must try. Defiantly glad I decided to. It's not your typical Reuben sandwich and I love their version. They traded sauerkraut for a slaw and thousand island instead of Russian dressing. The slaw gives the sandwich a little crunch along with the toasted bread. Be sure you have plenty of napkins though. Or else you'll get soaked with dressing. Very yummy, fresh wrap. I came because of all the 5 star reviews. This a great local lunch spot. I had the chicken ceasar wrap on whole wheat and it was great. My friend had the caprese panini. It looked great and not greasy, and she said it was very good. She also had the corn chowder. It was very herby. Overall, the place is small and cozy and I will definitely be back when I feel like a sandwich. Update: This was second visit. I had the same awesome wrap and this time also enjoyed their flavored coffee; Mexican chocolate. It was fantastic! I wanted to love this place because I've heard so much hype about it but I was sadly pretty disappointed. We went on a Friday and it was packed which seemed promising. The space is tiny and cramped (but they are expanding so I'm not taking points off for that). I'm taking points off for: 1) Less than attentive staff- seemed like they wanted to be anywhere other than working. One was talking to his girlfriend who was sitting at a table in the corner. He also made and served her a sandwich before customers that had come in way before she did. 2) Food- I got the corn chowder which was, unfortunately, luke warm and too sweet. The sandwich I got was also forgettable. It was focaccia bread, mozzarella, tomato, and an olive bruschetta type spread. There was too much olive spread which saturated the bread in olive oil and made it soggy and the flavor of the olives overpowered the whole sandwich. I was extremely jealous of my boyfriend's sandwich which was a buffalo chicken panini and it was delicious (I stole a bite ). So I will say that while my food was extremely underwhelming, his was great, which makes me wary to try anything else on the menu tbh. Is it gonna be great? Is it gonna be disappointing? Who knows! I left feeling sad because I had looked forward to trying this place out forever. I could never go because they aren't open on the weekends (yet) so when I had a random weekday off, I was psyched to stop by. There are signs posted promising a new, bigger deli coming soon with extended hours. So I might give it another shot down the road. I've heard great things about this place and adding the reviews I was pretty excited to see what all the excitement is about. I am greeted by an extremely friendly lady. We order our sandwiches, I got the Turkey Roo-ben, my cousin The Mainah. We choose to eat there because it was a rainy gross day and we had no where else to go. We waited, and the lady who took our order was kind enough to bring it to our table. First look, the sandwiches are very large and look AMAZING. I had to take a picture... so I did. =) First bite in, SO good. A large amount of turkey, a good thick slice of bread. It was a good quality rye bread because the bread did not fall apart while I picked it up, put it down while eating it. Saco Island Deli does not skimp on anything. I just have a personal preference on how I like my sandwiches, so it isn't their fault. But, with the turkey rooben is supposed to be a 'special' slaw. It looked like just a regular mayo-based slaw, which was fine by me. The slaw coupled with the dressing while eating the sandwich made me feel a little overwhelemed because I am not a fan of creamy anything so I thought there was just too much 'sauce.' Also, the sandwich could have stayed on the flat top just a TOUCH longer because the center of my sliced turkey was still a little cool, and the swiss cheese wasn't really melted. Next time I order it I'll either have them switch up the slaw with just kraut, because I like kraut and it'll be a perfect sandwich for me. My cousins Mainah sandwich was probably one of the biggest sandwiches I've ever seen. It was a big crusty roll/sub bread stuffed with a lot of chicken, romaine, and a sauce. She loved it and could only eat half. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. I want to try out the rest of their menu. It's hard to find places here where they make different styles of sandwiches. It's refreshing for me and it's something I really do need in my food loving life. Service was super friendly, the guy that made my sandwich asked about our sandwiches and was easy to talk to and it's an environment I want to be back in again. I've been wanting to try this place for a couple years now and finally did today. I stopped in yesterday to grab a menu on my way out of the building and the guy was extremely friendly even though I wasn't ordering anything. I Got there just before the lunch crowd arrived and the guy taking orders was professional and friendly enough. I ordered the Waldorf Chicken Salad, Chicken Cesar Wrap, two blueberry pomegranate homemade iced teas and a oatmeal chocolate chip peanut butter cookie. The wait was definitely worth it. The smell of the croissant was not outdone by the taste of it. The very first bite was amazing and every bite after tasted as good. A lot of croissants are kinda plain tasting this one was immediately noticeable but did not overpower the Waldorf. The Waldorf with the apples on top was great and I'll definitely be having another after I try some of the other options. The person having the Chicken Cesar Wrap really really likes cheese but thought there was a bit too much of it, but said it was still delicious. We both liked the blueberry pomegranate iced teas. The chocolate chip oatmeal beaut butter cookie was good but not fantastic like the sandwiches. Another person I know said she orders from here at least once a week and loves the Cousin Vinny. This place remind me of the quality and customer service of the now sadly closed Catbird Creamery. I would love to see the owner of this place buy Catbird and add it to this location. I was extremely pleased to find a deli near me (the Mill Complex, Biddeford/Saco Line) that prepares ALL of their goodies in-house, with the farm to table ideal and anything they don't make is locally sourced. ( mostly Maine, some New England). They make 85% of what you consume on premises. They do have a regular menu with both hot and cold offerings as well as daily specials and soups and salads. They also make a pomegranate tea daily, and have all the regular soft drinks too. I have never had ANYTHING from here that I haven't enjoyed completely, and the only thing I regret is that I didn't come in sooner!! Oh, and be sure to ask if they have any goodies not listed....they also have a catering business, and chances are they probably have a wonderful creation that isn't advertised which you just might get lucky enough to try, giving you reason to love them that much more!! read more

Wow, just wow. This place is amazing. We were staying in a hotel up the road and when we asked for a recommendation we were told this is the place for a good lunch and they were not wrong , not one bit wrong as this place was clean, smelled good when you walked in making your mouths water just from the aroma of the deli. I had a special that had roast beef and pesto and lettuce and I don't know what else but it was delicious. My wife ordered the soup and also Reuben and my other daughters we the other special and needles to say there was not much talking going on over lunch as we all had out mouths occupied with food. I've lived in this area most of my 30+ year life, but went here for the first time, last month (not that they've been open that long, but it's been a while). I wish I hadn't wait so darned long. The food here is beyond delicious. I've tried the Mainah, which is a sandwich with chicken, house made bacon, cheese, romaine, on a crusty roll. This sandwich is heaven. It was so delicious that I had to savor every bite, and I'm usually a quick eater. Every bite of this sandwich is amazing. I even had to close my eyes on a few bites, for whatever reason. This sandwich is amazing. I've also tried the Vermonter, which has ham, apples, romaine, and that same delicious maple aioli, on a croissant. This is also super delicious, and we'll worth taking your time to savor every bite. Additionally, I've tried some of their Pomegranate Blueberry Iced Tea, and that was also sweet, yet well balanced and delicious. I can't wait to try more of their menu items. What a hidden gem! I grew up in Biddeford and always felt like we lacked options for Well made wraps/salads in the area. Don't get me wrong I love my George's Italians but this place takes sandwiches and wraps to the next level. I loved the nutty Roman sandwich- the pesto was so good!
