The restaurant is large and split into two areas, half bar with shuffleboard and seating and half tables, games and bar counter. The owner is amazing and the staff is very attentive. This spot has some fire options- from an even amount of white sauce based and red sauce based pizzas. And who doesn't love sourdough? The staff was a little busy and our order fell behind BUT they made up for it with giving us a bigger pizza than we had paid for. We stopped in on a whim. So glad we did!!! Growing up in NL, you enter the old "Ernie's Cafe" now THE DIAMOND, and the brick walls bring back a flood of memories! What a gem this place is! We ordered drinks and 2 small pies, one white - Fig with prosciutto & basil and one red - Sausage, onion with hot honey! AMAZING sourdough crust and cooked perfectly. The sauce on red pie was not raw (like some pizza sauces) and the basil.... you could smell the freshness. The fig pie was my favorite so far, but now we have to try all their pizzas. Heard great things and decided to try it out for my partner Birthday 4/18. Unfortunately, we were not impressed. (6pm) 1. Stood at Red counter for atleast 5 min. I ask the female bartender if she takes my order. She says Nope, he's coming in. So we wait atleast another 5-7 min and she takes our order. 2. Paid- added a tip but then had to get my own food off counter and bring to table (hmmm) 3. Garlic parm wings had zero flavor. 4. Large buttafuco and sm Mushroom pie. There is hardly ANY diff. Between the lg and sm so save your self $12 and get a sm. The food was not hot, my cheese had hardened on my pizza from sitting in window so long. Everything was painfully greasy. My BF had brought the food to our table after seeing it up there. I should have tipped him. We ate a pc. And brought home to toast and warm. The bartender apologized for the delay so that was recognized. Thx Sum it up - service was not slightly acceptable to even ask for a tip when I ordered and paid up front. Over the past few years I've heard numerous people say that while Bank Street has been making leaps and bounds, it's still missing a quality pizza spot. No more! I'd heard good things about The Diamond from the moment they opened, so I finally stopped in to give it a shot. I was not disappointed. I ordered a small pepperoni and their pilsner on draft. Both of them were excellent. As we all know, the greater New London area is spoiled when it comes to pizza. There aren't too many wood fired pizza options in this area though, so this is a great place to go if that's what you're craving. When I went, the service was excellent. Great pizza - and this from a native NYer! Had the "Fun Guy" chock full of mushrooms, caramelized onions, and stretchy cheese! Thin and crispy crust...10/10!! Wings ordered by some friends were nice and crispy too! Prices on point and cocktails nicely poured! Service people super friendly!!! A few months ago I reviewed Diamond pizza and I was told by the person reading the reviews that I gave the nicest bad review they had ever read. Thank You for actually reading every review. Well last night after attending the strike rally at Ocean beach I decided to stop in and try it again. I have stated before that I will always be honest and fair If I feel like something needs to be said. Let me first say that Diamond Pizza Nailed it. I was really impressed with the quality of the food. The quality control that I was looking for in my first review is now there. Maybe the last time I had just got it on an off night, which does happen from time to time. People who are in business for themselves want to make everything right and by reading your reviews it lets me know that you are taking the right steps to do everything in your power to make your customers happy. I ordered two pizzas, Margarita and the buffalo chicken pizza. We sat at the counter and I ordered A beer or two while I waited. When the pizza arrived I opened the box and could not resist trying a slice. Just the way it looked in the box made me want to try a piece. The pizza was exactly what I needed and it was excellent. When I took it home, my wife tried it and told me it was very good. You are doing downtown New London a great service by having such a fun spot with delicious pizza. That old review goes away when you give me pizza like I had last night. The staff was knowledgeable about the beers on tap and the dance party in the back room made it feel like a fun energetic place to be. I really feel that you have redeemed yourselves in my book. I will recommend Diamond to people coming into town who are looking for a great time and experience. I am so glad that Down town New London has such a cool place where different styles of music have been playing every-time I have been in. While sitting in this atmosphere I really had all good feelings. Sometimes when I was sitting there just taking it all in I had to think about the experience from the last time, not terrible but reflecting on it only to say, this is much better and exactly what I wanted. The vibe in the retro dinning area made me want to stay, play some games and chat with the people that were there. I hope this review makes you feel proud of what you are doing. A rather new place to New London, The Diamond is located in a great place. It's close to the train station, the ferries, and parking. We were interested in the pizza and games concept, but sadly, most of the games don't work. It was a hot and humid day when we went. There was a breeze blowing in through the open doors, but it was a bit warm. The menu is limited with a few red and white sourdough pizzas, wrapped sandwiches, and salads. I think there were more cocktails than pizzas. We ordered a margharita pizza and the really fun guy pizza. Two things that disappointed me: the lack of toppings on the margharita and all the burnt pieces around the crust. Some people like that, but I really hate burnt pieces. Service was rather quick. The tables felt sticky and dirty with crumbs, but it could have been the humidity. The place was packed, and they had a lot of pick-up orders, so there are people who enjoy this place. There's limited outside seating, bar seating, dimly lit seating, and brightly lit seating. read more

Well this is a welcome little gem to Bank Street in downtown New London! I heard about The Diamond through word of mouth during restaurant week and decided I would have to stop in to check it out. There are two entrances in on Bank, one that leads into the more dimly lit bar area and one that leads into the more brightly lit seating/to go area. Don't worry though, once you're inside you can pass between both sides freely. There are also some arcade games and even shuffleboard inside! I decided to sit at the bar. While there are a few different options on the menu, I knew I wanted pizza, and decided to go with the restaurant week special they had for a salad, one topping pizza and dessert. I went with the insalata verde, and a pepperoni pizza with hot honey. The salad was crisp and fresh. I loved the bite of the Dijon dressing and would for sure have this again. Now the pizza- it was delicious! The dough had a great flavor and was cooked the perfect amount (no flop on the bottom). There was just the right amount of sauce and I loved that the pepperoni crisped up as well to give it a nice crunch. I also want to note that they had a decent list of wine, and their beer list is pretty fantastic, including some local brewery options. While this was my first visit, this certainly won't be the last! read more

A friend and I decided to check The Diamond out after work on Friday a bit after 4pm. While the aesthetics of the decor were nice, the staff completely ignored us - There were at least 3 staff on duty and maybe 5 customers including us. Not one "Hello", "Welcome to the Diamond", or "Can we help you?" NADA. So after grabbing a table looking about, going up to the bar looking at the menu, having staff just walk silently past us - we decided to leave and go to the brewery down the block - warm, welcoming with great beer and pizza too. read more

The pizza here is great. I had a Margherita pie and it was just how I like: light, slightly crispy, thin, and full of flavor. It was not greasy at all which I loved. The bar itself is cool, sort of has an ambiance from a 60's NYC bar. Good beer selection as well. Will return next time I'm in New London. read more

I liked the atmosphere, sat at the bar. Wasn't crowded for a Friday night at 8:30pm. I wasn't impressed with either of the pizzas we ordered. Crust was a bit too dry (though crunch level was great). Overall, the dough was a bit too soft and the toppings didn't create the fresh Margarita (sp) experience I'm used to. Was disappointed in staff as no help was provided when my date significantly choked for a relative amount of time. Not one person came over to help. Probably won't be visiting again. read more
