    Lunch for a solo traveler
    Anne L.

Years ago I ate at The Dillard House while vacationing with family in the area. It was my first experience with family style dining and it was such a nice experience that I wanted to go back. This time round I was traveling solo but wanted to stop and see if it was as good as my memories. While the original spot for the restaurant is undergoing renovation, they have everything running seamlessly from the nearby conference or ballroom on the resort property. The service is great - friendly and quick server helped take care of me and the food is delicious. You are served fried chicken, fried pork and gravy, salad, coleslaw, black eyed peas, squash casserole, lyonnaise potatoes, creamed corn, biscuits, cornbread, and peach cobbler....i might be forgetting something but rest assure it is a great experience and I recommend it.

I've eaten at Dillard House for almost 40 years. I don't know who is running this place now, but it absolutely breaks my heart to see how they're gutted this place. The food is HORRIBLE! They spent a bunch of money updating the place, and I guess they tried to church-up the food, but they removed all the southern flavor from the food. They don't serve biscuits anymore. There's a thing called "biscuits" on their menu, but it's a damned Cheddar Bay biscuit from Red Lobster, not a good, southern biscuit. Salad? Weird weeds and twigs fru-fru salad. No collard greens, no black-eyed peas, no biscuits, no cucumber salad. Nothing that you came to the Dillard House to eat in years past is served anymore. And the saddest thing - this was the only place on the planet that I'd eat coleslaw. Well, they managed to mess that up, too. We used to happily drive the 70+ miles and wait for an hour to eat here. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever come back. It's truly heartbreaking.

Winter salad, yeast roll and corn muffin.

This was our first visit to the Dillard House Restaurant. We almost didn't come because of construction, but the dining room was updated and open. Daniel was our server and walked us through the all you can eat vs. the single entree, meat and three. We were hungry, so we opted for the unlimited option. The food was prepared fresh and seasoned well, but not over seasoned. Cisco came by the table and gave us some background of DHR and how the choices rotate. We sensed the staff took ownership of providing a pleasant dining experience.

Roast beef, corn bread, salad and strawberry cobbler.

What a great treat with beautiful views! Was heading home from a stay in NC and thought to stop at the Dillard House for a late lunch. The place was pristine. Food was served quickly and tasted wonderful. April was our server and we really liked her!

Only problem we had was extremely slow service with the bar service. It took 10 mins for them to figure out where to sit us even with reservation. Our first drinks took 35 mins, second drink took another 25 mins to get. They were tasty when they did finally arrive. Everyone was super nice though. I do feel they should have comped drinks after that very long delay on both rounds. We ordered fried green tomatoes and they were not my favorite, too much corn meal and they were dry and hard to eat. My shrimp and grits were delicious and my husband fried chicken and Mac and cheese were great too. We ordered the ice cream for dessert it was good but nothing special and I would opt to try one of the full desserts next time. Overall such an adorable place and most of the food was really good. They just needed help with the bar service and maybe some more experienced wait staff they all were pretty young and green, but again very sweet.

The…read moreorganizer clearly hoped to cash in on the current Mahjong trend without offering one single element of an actual tournament. No table assignments. No scoring. No prizes. No auction items. Nothing. The only thing remotely "tournament‑like" was the fee they charged. And let's be clear: this wasn't even a fundraiser for a cause. It was "bring your own tiles, sit with your friends, play in our room, and we'll serve you a fair‑to‑mediocre lunch"--a lunch that, as the owner proudly announced, didn't even include a basic cookie for dessert. Stunning. Then came the final insult. My friend's mother, who couldn't attend, had spent two weeks calling and requesting a refund. Repeatedly denied and given the run around. Only after persistent pressure did they begrudgingly offer a food‑only gift certificate--not merchandise--though maybe, possibly, someday, at some undefined later date, they might let her use it in the store. Maybe. But not today. What on earth was this event. I genuinely felt like I had stepped into an alternate universe where professionalism, integrity, and basic hospitality had been outlawed.
