Great breakfast spot. I checked the reviews prior to my visit, must be the competition giving the negative reviews. This location was spot on. Friday morning and the place was packed. Since it was just me I sat at the counter where I could see all of the food coming out of the kitchen. Everything looked great. I wish I could have eaten more. Listen, these 5 stars are for my EXPERIENCE. And I had a great experience. This little place is a hidden gem. Our server Dee Ann took very good care of my dad and me. We sat down for breakfast and I asked her what are some of the things that were a must try. Obviously, their pancakes. I wanted to try the biscuit gravy, so I ordered a side of gravy, some crispy bacon, and some scrambled eggs. I wanted the full mountain breakfast experience. All of my food came out wonderfully hot. The pancakes were big and fluffy, the bacon was perfectly crispy and my two scrambled eggs were perfect. The restaurant is a cute little southern mountain Grill. The walls are lined with old license plates and obviously there are probably a lot of stories to tell from the years they have been in business. As we were leaving, we asked Dee Ann for some recommendations on must do while in town. She gave us some great ideas. We had a great time. While venturing out and about we decided to stop into Mary's Southern Grill. This restaurant is in a strip mall right off of hwy 17 and 515. Parking is interesting. When entering we were amazed how much bigger it was. We were greeted and seated right away. We were asked for breakfast or lunch. Lunch menu we said but wanted the breakfast menu to look over. The hostess and our waitress (Meg) were extremely welcoming. They had booths for 6 and smaller tables. The noise level was quite low considering the room. After looking over the menus we ordered lunch. My spouse ordered the open faced Roast Beef. It comes with mashed potatoes and your choice of bread (white, wheat, rye or sourdough). I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken sandwich with a slice of cheese and fries (crispy please). We both ordered iced tea. We had our meal in less than 10. Wow large potions. The chicken breast had a very light and flavorful coating. My fries were perfectly crisp. My spouses open faced Roast Beef was really good too! Texas toast was nicely toasted and had large portion of potatoes. We didn't have to add any salt or pepper. Everything was seasoned perfect. Our waitress, Meg, checked on us regularly even though she had half the restaurant. She even gave us drinks to go. We will definitely be back. Want to try her breakfast. Breakfast menu was small but have a nice variety. I highly recommend Mary's if you want a solid lunch. There is also seating at a bar. My wife and I enjoyed a late lunch at this popular locally owned family restaurant. Because of the size of the burgers, she opted for the kids Cheese burger, and I ordered one filet of blackened local mountain trout with jalapeno cole slaw. While the presentation of the food on the plate was not the best, the food was excellent. The staff were personable and professional. I just stopped working for this toxic establishment after being accused of being high (bought a drug test and passed on hour later) but why is that a problem you ask? Because the owner provides his entire kitchen staff with endless Marijuana out back. Food taking too long? They are getting high. Owner "isn't there"? Nope he is too stoned and doesn't want to show his face. There food handling practices are nasty. And not only that, I've blocked every contact from that restaurant and they decided to make fake numbers to threaten me and my children. Don't give this man your business. Tyler Collum is the owner. Not Mary. Just to be clear. We just had the police come and search our neighborhood. I don't understand the hype. The food is mediocre and the hostess was rude AF, it took about 30 minutes to get seated (for 2 people) and then another hour for the food that is no better than Denny's. I will give five stars to our server who was very friendly and kind considering how busy she was with a full house of hungry people. read more

My mom, aunt, and I went and had lunch one Saturday. I have a service dog for my seizures. I was late due to a parade in the town over, so they went ahead and ordered a head of me. I get seated with them when I arrive, and my service animal lays under the table, and the waitress comes and takes my order for food and drink. I get my food, my burger is missing the bacon I paid and asked for. I ask her for my bacon, and she makes a big deal out of it. She brings me my bacon and then asks me if I am finished with my food as she needs the table. Mind you most of the lunch rush as left. I told her no, I had just started eating, and I was going to continue to eat. I do not recommend eating here. I also have to say that the burger was very, very dry. read more

Only been to Mary's for breakfast a few times when in the area but if lunch is anything like bfast, just go whenever. The place is much bigger than it looks from the outside so plenty of tables and the servers all seem like they've been there forever and in a good way vs. an "OMG, I can't believe I still am here" way. Friendly, efficient, know the menu backwards and forwards, etc. The food is just straightforward, country good, fare and they get it all right. Examples, over easy eggs that are really over easy, corned beef hash that's nicely crisped up on the grill, country ham that is browned and salty and just as it should be... Today was different, as we waited over 60 minutes after placing our orders, no mixed fruit, no potato cakes, and no cheesy grits were available. Also, the biscuit gravy was served cold..... There was also, after some time, smoke and a burnt odor coming from the kitchen! Too bad for us, but it did give us some time to chat! Was visiting Georgia for a long weekend getaway from Miami and stumbled upon Mary's. From the moment you walk in, it feels as if you're walking into someone's home. The decor is quaint, the smells coming from the kitchen are familiar, and the greeting received from everyone makes you feel like a regular though it's your first time walking in. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese biscuit with hash browns, bottomless coffee, and a short stack of pancakes which were too good to make it to a pic. The biscuit was cooked to perfection. Not sure I could ever eat another one again due to how high Mary set the standard. The food was delicious, the service was amazing, and the place felt so cozy. Will definitely be going back. I ordered Mac n Fries as a side and only received a handful of fries and a spoon of Mac n cheese (the container wasn't full). In addition, I didn't receive any silverware. I used to be a loyal customer of Mary's for years and I am appalled by my family's experience this weekend. We came in both Saturday and Sunday were expecting a long wait but on Sunday waited OVER an hour and a half for eggs, toast and bacon. When we got our food, my grandaughter couldnt even eat her meal because of how bad it was. Cold eggfs, raw chicken, burnt potatos. I see how hard these girls work and the way that hag in the kitchen window was talking to them was just awful. We had Meg as our server both days and she was amazing, always moving, always smiling and she really turned our experienc e around or we would have walked out right then and there. I dont know what has happened to this place since Mary left but the only saving grace is the servers who keep that place running. read more

I have always like Mary's, but not so much since she sold her restaurant. Food is still pretty good, and we have always had good service. However, customers should check their receipt as there seems to be some deceptive tactics going on. The last 2 times I have been my receipt does not reflect the prices on the menu. I asked the server for an explanation as I did not understand the charges. Apparently, we were charged extra for items on a sandwich that were advertised as being included. The other meal had an extra $1 that was added for who knows what, however, the server did correct the prices to reflect what is on the menu. Furthermore, customers should leave a tip on the table and not include it on the bill if you pay with a credit card. If you leave the tip on the card, the owner will take a portion of it to pay HIS credit card fees. read more

The service AMAZING... told host we didn't mind sitting in middle as long as they had food, coffee and water since we came from Helene disaster in Asheville.
