UPDATE: After expressing my disappointment, I was kindly reached out to by the owner of Friends. As we all are, when you get down to it, a real person. He offered his apology, a refund, and an appreciation for the feedback. It goes a long way when a person takes responsibility, especially business owners. Based on his explanations to me, which fit my experience, they were understaffed by 1 person, and also had double the traffic that they do on a usual Tuesday. I don't know if I'll ever be around this area enough to give them another shot, but I do appreciate reaching a real human, especially in this day and age. Friend's on Main St. in Clayton is a nice place for lunch and dinner. There are two indoor dining floors and a covered rooftop patio to enjoy. Their service is polite and friendly with plenty of TVs to watch various sporting events. Their menu has plenty of familiar meals if you have ever visited another Friend's location. They have 3 floors. We went to the rooftop and there is a bar inside with a firepit and a front balcony to overlook the road and a back balcony where you can smoke. We got michelob ultra draft and lemon drop shots. Service and drinks were good. Will definitely be back! read more

The place has a cool decor, and the view from the top of the Clayton strip area is nice. We went there specifically for the rooftop, and we were bummed to learn that kids are not allowed, so we had to sit inside downstairs. Food was just average. Ghost pepper cheese curds were good, but minimally spicy. The GOAT burger I will say was pretty delicious. The cheese burger was just your average cheeseburger. The fish n chips was horribly overcooked... my husband refuses to send food back, so he dealt with it, but it sucked. Then we paid on the mobile app, and we didn't like pay and immediately run out. We paid, used the restroom, then left. Then our waitress came running after us into the street asking if we paid. It was embarrassing and if mobile pay is an option, they really should have a way to alert them once the bill is paid. All in all, there aren't too many options in the area and we just needed to get out of the house for a while, so it accomplished that, but we will definitely explore other places next time around or go kid free solely to enjoy the rooftop atmosphere. read more

The Friends grill really lives up to its name, welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff. I had the moonshine bacon jam burger, and my wife had the 4th of July burger. Friends is one of our go-tos in Clayton, and we are always pleased! Kids eat free (1 per adult entree, I believe) on Sundays, so we take the family for a great price! Everything here was amazing. The service was amazing, the environment was amazing, and the food was so good! For appetizers we got the southern belle deviled eggs and the Texas twisted skins. The deviled eggs are deep fried and the filling is regular deviled egg filling with pimiento cheese and they drizzled sriracha over it. Literally so good! The twisted skins were basically the butt part of a potato with some potato still on it and pulled pork, cheese, pickled red onions, green onions, bbq sauce and sour cream. For as good as everything else was these were my favorite things there. Whoever thought these up is a genius. My fiancé got the wings and fries basket. He loved the wings and said they were crispy and well sauced. He didn't like the fries too much though because of how big they were. I tried them and they were good to me though. I got the bacon bacon burger with onion rings. The burger was really good, had like six strips of bacon in it and the patty was super flavorful. The onions rings were pretty solid too. I always get desert when I see a warm brownie with ice cream and these were sooooo good here. 10/10 Everyone there was super nice and cool too. Wish I could give a proper review on the food, but the service ensured I never got the opportunity. We were visiting on holiday vacation, so we expected a busy hustle on Main Street. What we didn't expect was that Friends was the least populated place to eat, and while we were told the wait time would only be 25 minutes, we were left waiting for 40 minutes only to find out that our name had been scratched off the wait list, along with many others. If you cannot provide your customer base with good service, limit your amount of customers. Do not waste their time by putting them on a fake wait list, encouraging them to shop and wait, only to realize you completely wasted their time. What. A. Bummer. I never leave reviews but this was absolutely ridiculous and uncalled for. Given that they had our phone number, there was no excuse for the lack of communication and astounding neglect. When we discovered our name had been crossed off, we witnessed people walking in and being seated right away. Instead of addressing us, the waiter took the new party in without even an apology. Luckily we have great practice in self-control, but that won't stop me from leaving the review that such poor service deserves. Totally disappointed. Knowing that this place was just getting up and running, my friend and I decided to try it out mid-afternoon on its first Friday. We had watched the space transform over time and were excited to check it out. The decor in and out is so much fun! I witnessed the artist working on the peace sign outside a few weeks ago and it is a good barometer of what you will find inside. My favorite spot inside the building, though, was the Georgia themed room. GO DAWGS! We were able to be seated on the roof and the view was fabulous! Nothing better than dining al fresco AND getting to see the mountains. NOTE: If you want to sit on the room, you will have to climb 2 sets of stairs. Well worth it if you are able to do so. Our server, Payton, came by right after we sat down. He worked very hard to make sure that we were well taken care of, including having to go down 2 flights to get our beers! We both ordered the tap beer that was on special, and it was delicious. (I failed to get the name or check in on Untappd. Deep sigh.) As stated earlier, Payton had to hunt our drinks down so it took a few minutes. We ordered the Pimento Cheese Wontons to start and they arrived quickly. They were hot and delicious and the Thai chili drizzle on top made them perfectly yummy with our beer. Our food arrived shortly after we finished the appetizer. My friend ordered the Cubano Press Wrap with its side of pasta salad. Having a Cuban as a wrap was different but she greatly enjoyed it. The pasta salad was fresh and delicious, as well. I ordered the Bada Bing Shrimp Tacos with a side of onion rings. The tacos were yummy and the onion rings were perfect. I ate every bite! I am excited for this new restaurant and its owner to be successful in Clayton. However, that means it will be difficult to find a table when I want! Good for them and a challenge for me. Don't wait.
