It's rare that I'm disappointed with a restaurant, but my meal at The Diner left me overwhelmingly disappointed. I think the owners had a very clear vision of what they wanted the interior to look like, without much focus on their menu or skill in the kitchen. The Diner LOOKS great. A few more smarmy signs on the wall than I'd prefer, but that's all a matter of taste. I love the high ceilings, the refinished wooden floor, and the obvious use of secondhand tables and flatware. Unfortunately the service was apathetic, the coffee was mediocre, and the food was bad. I got a skillet that at least looked okay but if I'd made it myself at home, I'd be disappointed with the outcome. It was bland and dry. My boyfriend's biscuits and gravy were embarrassing. Stingy globs of gravy carefully covered the surface of each small biscuit. The gravy tasted weird and the homemade biscuits were unpleasant. Based on looks alone I really wanted to love The Diner, but it just goes to show that you can't judge a book by its cover. read more

The hostess today was horrible and snotty and I almost walked cuz she was disgusting. She questioned our text message slash reservation and she was a dick about it after asking us questions about why we didn't respond to the text that our table was ready. Like bitch why question us for a second and not just walk us to the table? I loved the food but the hostess can go screw her snotty ass self. I do not see myself doing her ever again. When you enter the diner there was really nobody down there to show you where to go but they do have signs and you have to walk up a flight of stairs to get to your seat, you can sit outside and have a great view but we sat inside because there was no place in the shade because it was hot outside. The menu had the classic breakfast kinda like village inn, I had eggs and bacon also their country style potatoes. All the food was cook perfectly and taste really good. It also good to know they have Pepsi products I know for some people that's a big thing for them. read more

Stopped here for breakfast on Sunday morning. Ordered cinnamon waffles with scrambled eggs and sausage links. The food was awesome. Loved the sausage links and the waffles especially. The service here is top notch and everyone we encountered was very friendly. Love the atmosphere in the old Frieght House building. Looks like they have outdoor seating as well and would definitely love to try sitting out there with the river views when the weather gets warmer. Today (13DEC20) was my first experience with this restaurant. Every employee at this restaurant is crazy friendly. I had the veggie skillet scrambled hard with a pancake. The skillet was THE most enjoyable one I have ever had. Absolutely divine. It comes with tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, veggie sausage, and some other ingredients that escape me at the moment. It was very flavorful and well-proportioned. The skillet comes with a singular pancake, which was on the medium to larger side, fluffy, and did not need any syrup as it was sufficiently sweet on it it's own. I highly recommend this restaurant, and will absolutely return. read more

What a BLAH experience. It took over an hour and fifteen minutes to get our food - during the time we waited our server never came by to check on us. The water tasted disgusting and we couldn't drink it, so when the server finally brought our food we ordered juices, but our server never returned and we never got the juices. The eggs were over-cooked, brown, and dry. The middle of the pancake had a clump of uncooked pancake mix in the middle. Everything else was subpar. To get the check we had to go find our server and ask for it. Overpriced for poor service and mediocre food. read more

My boyfriend and I visited this spot while in Davenport for a wedding, it had such a cool modern yet eclectic and old school vibe! Our server was wonderful and had such high energy which we appreciated considering I was definitely still half asleep before receiving my coffee! If you want an eclectic venue with great comfort food, this is it. The Diner is in the Freight House down by the Mississippi River in downtown Davenport. I have eaten many different things off their menu. I haven't had anything that wasn't phenomenal. The Brunch Burger is really something. They are great for breakfast and lunch. There is also a full bar. Their deck has an excellent view of the river. It is right off of the bike path and the river walk. The restaurant was inspired by the owner's mother's recipes and there are many of her sayings on the walls. It's a hoot! read more

Th Diner is absolutely the best lil surprise in Davenport! The atmosphere is so eclectic and unique from the fun mismatched seating to the unique glass wear and table settings. Food was delicious, fast and hot but the best part was the staff. Our waitress Nona was so much fun! She was so attentive, keeping our bottomless mimosas (so many flavors to choose from) filled, and a complimentary champagne toast at noon! Highly highly recommend! Went for the first time tonight! Pleasantly surprised. My friend and I both had the meatloaf, green beans and mashed potatoes with gravy. Simple, delicious and so comforting. Several employees stopped by the table to say hello, thank us, and check in. There was a slight hick up, and I was impressed with the servers personal accountability for it! He was humble and kind in his error, even if unnecessary! (Mistakes happen and this was truly slight) For a start up, they've done a fantastic job nailing the fact that keeping it simple but delicious is the key to success. Attempted to go for brunch there this morning. We had been the Sunday prior, food and service were good. This morning we were told a 30-45 minute wait just to be seated. We gambled and got seated within 5 minutes. We then sat for 25 minutes before we we're even spoken to about if someone had come over yet for our beverage order. We sat another 15 with no service and left to go to Fresh Deli right down the way. Clearly they need some more staff and I would suggest not having staff wearing shirts of other establishments while working. read more

I love the location and the restaurant itself! The huge windows let in so much light and on a sunny day, it's gorgeous. The decor is really cute too! Very mismatchy but in a cute way. Our server was great, she was so friendly and on top of her game. As far as the food goes, it was.. ehh. Not horrible but not great either. I ordered the bourbon sweet potato skillet. It's sweet potato tots topped with scrambled eggs, sausage and candied bacon. Along with that you get your choice of toast or pancakes so naturally I had to choose the chocolate chip cakes. It didn't take horribly long for the food to come out and the portion sizes are huge! There's so much food. I took a few bites of my pancake only to discover it wasn't cooked through. Nothing like a big bite of gooey pancake batter. The skillet was just... so so. Nothing spectacular but nothing horrible by any means.
