This "bistro" has become a favorite eatery for us...not just because of the food but because of the atmosphere and overall "feel" of the place. They strive to us local and fresh which is always a plus. They have an eclectic and playful menu, not your usual run of the day fare. The staff is great...we are always greeted at the door and every staff member that passes the table makes sure they smile and at least make eye contact if not conversation. Very friendly and helpful. Even though it is thirty minutes to get there we go as often as possible. You need to give them a try. They are on Face Book so like them and keep up with the live entertainment opportunities. This is my favorite place to eat! I love the sweet and savory salad with the balsamic vinaigrette and chicken. It has feta, strawberries, nuts, and is served chop style. You can't go wrong with the kettle chips with homemade ranch or the sweet potato fries. They have an amazing kid's sirloin that my daughter loves. It has a teriyaki glaze. My husband loves the hey jack burger with the cherry pepper slaw! Yum! The fried egg just makes it really rich and delicious. Another great menu item is the lettuce wraps! So good with the spiced chicken and peanuts with sauce! I haven't had anything there I haven't liked. The servers and owners make you feel like you are part of the family! When you're a regular, they just ask if you want the usual and get it right every time! We love Marie, John, Kim, and Emily. Best servers in town! Had a new waitress for lunch on Saturday, well not new to the Dish but she had never waited on us before. Stacy did a great job! Loved her!!! She kept our drinks filled and was quick and courteous! This restaurant is locally owned and I love that. We've been here several times and It's ok, for some reason when we go there is always only one server/host for the whole restaurant and sometimes that person disappears for long periods of time. The food is good, the wings are ok, the burgers are great and you can have any sandwich made like a salad and that will make it GF. Tacos are ok. The experience fit the check. Over all OK. read more

First time I ate here, I ordered the grilled cheese and tomato basil soup. I asked for lettuce and tomato on my grilled cheese. The soup was great, the sandwich good, but no lettuce and tomato, so I asked the waiter for it, but I suppose it was forgotten. I asked again, said, just bring it on a small plate and I will add it to my sandwich. Never did get it. Next visit, I ordered exactly the same thing, with exactly the same result. First,The Dish is not in Beckley . It's 10 miles from Beckley,from the West Va Turnpike. And it's located next door to a Dollar General store.... Wife and I went in and sat in the bar area. Nice enough space. High priced menu for West Va outback. We live in Asheville and Key West and Dish prices made me think of home .Burger -$10+,plus $3 for fries.Draft beer $5 Food was actually quite good( burger/ fries/beer , not terribly creative) Service was weak.Weak. "Could you get me another beer ?" 10 minutes late"Oh, you wanted a beer" 5 minutes later" could you remind me what kind of beer you wanted ?" That kind of service is expected for a mom and pop bar, but for a $15 burger ? Anyway, it ain't the Greenbriar .More like a Cracker Barrel with beer. read more

My sister and I stopped here on our way to North Carolina and were mightily impressed. It's pretty rare for both of us to enjoy a place so immensely. They had plenty of vegetarian options for me as well as a variety of dishes that she liked. I ordered a grilled cheese and it was the best I've ever had. The sweet potato fries were tasty too. My sister ordered a medium rare hamburger and was impressed that it was perfectly cooked. We split an avocado brownie, which was a unique and creative dessert. It's nice to know there's a place out I 64 for all those folks to have the real food, farm to table experience. I would call this American food; steak, shrimp with polenta, salmon, a couple burgers, etc. It's all done very, very well and if I move out to Shady Spring or somewhere close I will be here frequently. Also, they have TVs at all booths, so if you want to put on Spongebob for the kids and keep the volume down they will be more than happy to not raise six kinds of hell during dinner. My brunch food was inedible. I ordered the polenta, chili, with egg special. The chili was so soupy, everything on the plate was sopping wet. The polenta had an odd taste/odor, almost like it was too long in the fridge. I asked for a slice of toast, thinking maybe I could salvage the eggs. The bread was lightly toasted which is okay but still very soft, so when I picked up a half slice it folded in half. I took one bite and butter (or something) sprayed everywhere. So I didn't eat the food, I paid and left. I was so disappointed as I made a special effort to stop here and had looked forward to my return visit. I will not return. read more

I would say the food is somewhere between 3 and 4 stars but I give this place a solid 4 because of the good customer service at the front end of the house. We called a few hours before we planned to eat there to make a reservation. We were driving through the mountains so I'm sure my voice was going in and out but they were so polite nonetheless. Anyway - by the time we got there, they seated us right away. Around 5pm, it was relatively empty. I ordered a beer - our server came back with water and then later came back to let me know my beer was recently out of stock. I ordered something else and then we placed our meal orders. I don't know if it was a one off night or what but our whole meal took a long time and our stuff kind of took a long time to get. My 4 year old whined, "is our food ever coming?" The food was good but I do feel all the reviews might have hyped this place up too much for me. You can tell the food is good but nothing was so outrageous that I would salivate just thinking about it. We started with chicken lettuce wraps, then I got a grilled cheese and tomato soup, and we ended with the bread pudding. Of everything, I would say the bread pudding was the best (insanely "fresh-from-the-oven"-HOT) - warm without being dry - hard to achieve in desserts! Anyway - as the meal went on, service was slower and slower. It took 7 minutes for my child to get some extra ketchup, we never got the extra napkins we asked for, etc. I don't know if they started to become overwhelmed or something but we were all eager to end our meal. I can't give it 5 stars but I struggle with 3 because the people we were interacting with were clearly trying to bring good service to the meal. There just appeared to be other things going on. Anyway - I wouldn't go out of my way to eat Here but I would def give it a try if you don't want fast food for your meal. read more

I called and made an order for curbside. When I went to pickup the order the guy told me there was a 15% fee for curbside. It would of been nice to know that when I placed the order. When he brought me my food I paid with cash and thank you so much. He assumed I was giving him a huge tip I guess. I said I would like my change please. He said sure thing be right back. I was still going to give him extra even though he never told me of the fee for curbside on the phone. 13 mins later he finally comes back with my change no words or anything. I guess he figured I would leave and not wait on my change if he took an extended amount of time. Well ofcourse by that time my food had gotten cold and a poboy sandwich isn't to tasty cold. I wouldn't recommend doing curbside to anyone. If that service is any indication I wouldn't recommend the place at all. My first time there because I heard good things and it was all bad. read more

The Cajun shrimp over creamy polenta was amazing. The Hey Jack burger was downright disappointing. Way overcooked and despite a myriad of toppings, lacked flavor. The chicken parmesean was wonderful, nicely prepared and a touch of spice to the cream sauce penne was a great touch. The avacado brownie was good, but the better desert was the peanut butter pie. Stopped by The Dish Cafe on our way to Niagara Falls. The food was excellent, as well as our sever Eric. Husband and son had burgers, both were perfectly cook and enjoyed. My daughters had the pasta. The tomato sauce on the chicken Parmesan tasted homemade and was so delicious. I had the shrimp and polenta which was also delicious. I don't think you can go wrong with any dish from here.
