Stopped at The Dish Cafe for dinner on the way home from vacation, based on the previous reviews. The restaurant is in a small plaza close to a Dollar General. The restaurant has a bar side, and a dining side. It was clean. Noticed right away they upcharge 3% if you use a credit card. The food, as advertised was locally sourced and fresh. I ordered the black bean burger, which was really good! And a side of brussel sprout - which were also delicious. Hubs ordered the panko crusted chicken tenders. There were 2 huge pieces - almost the size of cutlets. Those were considered an appetizer but he also ordered a baked potato. His food was good, but he could only eat one of the tenders. Our waiter, Jacob was very knowledgeable about the food. He answered all of my questions about the menu, and was very kind and tolerant of an old lady! Ha! I'm sorry to admit I forgot to get photos! I would give 5 stars but it seemed like it took a long time for the food to come out. read more

While traveling through Beckley WV, this place came up as a 4.5 star restaurant on yelp so we stopped to give it a try. So glad we did! The food was amazing! This restaurant is in a small strip mall. While the ambiance is rather bland I love that they are locally owned and use local ingredients where possible. They had a nice selection of local beers on tap and we tried a pineapple cider which was too sweet for our taste but quite interesting. We've made it a part of our route to and from North Carolina to stop in here for years. We love the kind staff and delicious food (especially desserts!). We had great experiences every time. The food came out quickly and was all very fresh. However, their additional charges for add-ons/sides are a bit ridiculous. We were charged $2 for 3 small carrot sticks with our hummus and $3 for a sliver of an avocado slice. Not worth the up-charge whatsoever. Other than that, the rest of the food was decently priced. I would say that the dessert is better than the main menu, so if you're going to make the trip, be sure to take a look at the dessert menu! My boyfriend and I tried The Dish Cafe last night and it was one of the best meals we've had start to finish. We got the pimento cheese appetizer with pretzels and we both enjoyed the hot and fresh pretzels. We couldn't pass up the dinner special which was steak scampi so we both got that. The shrimp and steak were cooked perfectly. I got macaroni and cheese as one of my two sides and he got creamy polenta. We both loved our meals! We finished off an amazing meal with the sticky toffee breading pudding with vanilla ice cream. I think the ice cream is homemade. Our server, Creek, was very attentive and made some great recommendations. We live a little over 2 hours away and are thinking of ways to get back down to Beckley just to go to this place again! 10/10! read more

My guy, my son and I went there last weekend because it was on our list of places for a small reception, this fall. I made a reservation but the restaurant was fairly empty still at 11:30 AM which is understandable for any restaurant. We started with the Firecracker Shrimp. It was utterly divine and amazing. My guy said, 'If the rest of the food tastes this good, we know what place to choose.' While it did take a while, we were served one of the best meals I have had in my life. I ordered the salmon (superb cook on it), mac & cheese (house made pasta) and asparagus. It was so delicious and was more than I could eat. Fortunately it reheated well enough. My guy ordered the NY Strip (medium rare), broccolini and creamy polenta. That polenta was positively life changing! He absolutely loved his steak and said it couldn't get any better than what he was served. My son ordered chicken tenders & fries. He loved it, of course. He said it was better than his beloved McD's and Wendy's. While the service was a tad slow, the quality of the food and personal attention by our server more than made up for it. We were also there when it opened for the day, so I am sure that had an affect on the speed of service. We have decided to have our reception at the restaurant. They have a room that can be used for dinner parties, so we reserved that room. If you are ever in the Beckley/Daniels area in WV, I highly and strongly recommend that you try this place. It does share a plaza with Dollar General and it has a rather unassuming store front but, based on that one experience, you will *not* be disappointed. read more

Pretty good but you can tell that they are having to get creative by making menu items from a set list of options from some restaurant food supply provider. Kids loved the Waffle PB&J. "Tomato Soup" was some sort of spaghetti sauce, not soup but the grilled cheese was pretty good. Chicken parm and Mac and cheese all had the same pasta with different spices. One of my absolute favs. The food is so good from the to die for loaded fries to the perfectly seasoned Parmesan noodles to the Parmesan Chicken to the home made blue cheese dressing to the fabulous double chocolate cookies. My husband and I stopped to have lunch at The Dish after dropping his skis off at Ski Barn. We shared the pimento cheese and pretzels for an appetizer. It was delicious! The pretzels were so warm and soft. He got grilled chicken tenders tossed in hot sauce and French fries and enjoyed them both. I had a few fries and they were cooked to perfection. I had a falafel salad which was also delicious! It was fresh with homemade dressing. The falafel was so good I could've eaten it alone. We will definitely go again when back in the area! read more

This place was recommended by a local WV and we are so glad we went. Everything was soooo fresh, and the ribeye reminded my boyfriend of the meat he ate growing up from his grandparents farm. Must admit, I was a little hesitant to find some decent places to eat while traveling up to Ghent, WV to go on a ski day with friends. The shuttle driver (assuming a local) recommended a few places close to our hotel or driving up to Beckley to have more of the "familiar" chain options for dining. We opted to go for Dish Cafe (and I had also yelped it a couple days earlier). Perusing the website's menu and also other yelp reviews helped make our decision on finding some fresh-creative food and a unique dining spot. When we pulled into the shopping center that it's located in, the place is very unassuming. It is 1 of 3 stores.... I wouldn't exactly call it a strip mall since there are only 3 stores. But the great thing is that its located off of the main road, and there is ample parking. After hitting the slopes all day, we opted for an early dinner, so we got there around 5ish.... no dinner crowd, but we were given the choice of the dining room or the bar (high top).... Chose the bar since it seemed a little more relaxed and we wanted drinks - TV's helped too since we were all too tired to make civilized conversation. I started with a Moscow Mule... unfortunately they had taken their Manhattan off their menu, but they still offered to make it (if they still had the stuff behind the bar). So fresh and delicious - their other cocktails were pretty enticing. I switched over to beer after and they have about 6 drafts and some bottles. The shrimp and polenta was AMAZING. It was pretty awesome to look at, but even more awesome to eat! It came with a side salad... not your typical veggies, but mixed greens and freshly chopped onions and tomatoes really was a good way to start the meal. I'm pretty sure the ranch was made in house, which made the salad even tastier. Unfortunately this place is too far away for me to be a regular, but I am sure all of their food choice items are equally as good. My buddy ordered the soy glazed salmon with grilled asparagus... looked mighty tasty as well. There is a large wine selection here too (for you wine-os). As we were finishing up, more people were trickling in. I'm glad the locals support this place cause it's really great to have a place that uses a fresh and creative approach to food in the mountains. read more

My wife and I were driving through West Virginia and stumbled upon this gem. I ordered the filet mignon with mac and cheese and fresh veggies. My steak was so tender you could cut it with a fork. If you happen to be in the area, this is a must try. I have eaten at some very high end steak houses in my life and I would put this steak up there in that category. read more

My Shrimp and Polenta was the perfect temperature and the sauce(can't remember the name) made the dish extra delicious. The broccolini was roasted with simple olive oil and salt and was very tender. My husband ordered salmon and asparagus. We had the Toffee Bread pudding with coffee for desert. I'm still trying to figure out the recipe in order to recreate it at home! Friendly service, relaxing atmosphere, clean restrooms, comfortable seating, and the food (saved the best for last). I can't believe I just had the best burger of my life in Beaver, West Virginia. WoW... I was totally blown away with this restaurant. Being a road warrior, I travel and eat out a bunch but it was nice to be able to dine out for a change. I hate chain restaurants because they never give you a chance to taste the local fair but most of the time small local "cafe's" and "dinners" are full of bland quick processed food. NOT THE CASE WITH THE CAFE... this place was AWESOME - super impressed - I had the chicken parmesan which the presentation was great the chicken parmesan was very flavorful and the penne noodles with Alfredo were the best. The only thing I did not care for was the cherry pepper slaw which I thought was dry and should have been creamy but that is just my opinion. Wait staff did a great job.
