So, let's get the bad out of the way, this place really needs to do something about their flies. It was so weird. There weren't that many flies anywhere else I went in Port Orford, but The Dive had hundreds of flies everywhere, and the staff seemed to act like this was a normal thing. I don't know what's going on there. Maybe the restaurant is haunted. They need to find a solution though. Other than that, it was very nice. The bartender was friendly and helpful, the drinks were reasonable and they had a nice selection of craft beers while also stocking PBR and stuff like that. The food was pretty good. For a small town, Port Orford really has some great options to eat. This place is definitely worth stopping by for dinner. The interior is nothing fancy but the staff are very friendly and attentive from the moment you arrive until you leave. Great pub food but definitely the fish and chips stood out the best. The fish is fresh (locally sourced) and really tasty, the batter isn't too much and is full of delicious flavors. The burgers are also good but in my opinion it's the fish and chips that is really worth unforgettable and with coming back. It comes with a very generous amount of fries. The clam chowder is another one that I would highly recommend, honestly it's one of the very best chowder I have ever tasted. Period. The clam flavor comes through with every bite and is very satisfying. They also have a great selection of local micro brews as well as cider (if they have it try Bandon Rain cranberry cider, it's the best!) that should make everyone happy. Service is fast and food came quickly. Definitely worth waiting for after a long day playing at the beach and hiking. read more

I lived in Hawai'i for 11 years, so when I saw they had a "Maui" based day (Mondays) I was excited to try it out. I ordered the Loco Moco, and it was...good. Not the best ever, but not the worst either. The patty was a little dry, and I had to order grilled onions to add, but their spin on Mac salad was pretty good. The musubi was good, the teriyaki drizzle was sweet instead of savory which works. A little more seaweed on the musubi than I like, but all in all not bad. It is labeled Misubi on the menu, which is wrong, I hope they fix it. But it is worth the stop either way. We've been in prior and the new owners have really screwed this place up. The kid came out bragging his parents bought it for him, he's 24 and has no plans to stay in Oregon or port Orford- transplanted from out of state to run the place. Has absolutely no clue- was so loud and obnoxious- wanted everyone to know "he's more of a local than the locals cause he owns his own home" Bragging about his 400,000 house he just bought. Another spoiled kid whose parents supplied him with everything. The food was very dry, by husbands burger came out on toast very disappointed but glad to know when we travel through each year we won't need to stop here again . I hate to say this but that place needed a deep clean years ago. you need to clean your facility, even your menus daily. you need to inspect the dishware daily and before serving. our glasses were dirty. the only safe thing we felt would be safe on the visit were a tequila shot, and a quick exit.. our backs came in dirty glasses, and our pineapple juice came out of the largest dingiest old 1/2 gallon with about 1/2 inch of liquid in it... waitress and guy were uber kind, so this hurts, but that place is filthy, and you need to "pull you heads out of you a$$es man" - in my very best angry chef G.Ramsey Voice.. epic fail on all but hospitality. I feared ordering anything... I feared the pineapple back.. I'm sorry, but you guys you have to do the hard work and clean that place up. I eat here two weeks ago and didn't make it home before I had to go to the bathroom, I had to pull over at a wayside.. I couldn't even eat the clam chowder. It was rancid. The cod, fish and chips was disgusting. I was neither offered nor given any condiments and had to get up and go ask for them. We tried to go to The Crazy Norwegian for lunch but they're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. So we crossed the street to visit the very-much-open The Dive. A happy accident, indeed. My husband had The Gate Burger. A perfectly cooked burger topped with pulled pork and onion rings with local barbecue sauce. It was magnificent. I mean, with all the meat in it, it's kind of a heart attack in a bun but dear lord - it was SO tasty! I had 2 pieces of rockfish with the house breading. Very tasty and nice to have something local. It certainly wasn't comparable to British fish and chips (I'm British, so I'm a bit of a snob!), but I don't think it was trying to be. It was its own thing - and it was very, very good. Horrible walked in at 6:20 waitress said only orders to go as she is walking by. Place was packed. I cannot believe they could not just take one more customer. They still had over a half an hour of left to be opened. Not one other restaurant open we ended up going to the grocery store and getting TV dinners. After having been to Griff's on the dock, we were able to finally get to The Dive. Our party of 3, plus our dog, were promptly greeted. Got a booth and given menus. We ordered 3 waters, 1 beer. The specials were told and we were given some time to think. 2 of us got fish, each with a different special. Hubbie got lingcod and I got a fish, don't remember the name, and 1 prime rib special. Our food came out hot and fresh. I don't know who makes their bagels, they were yummy too. Good service, good food and a nice place to have a good meal. We will be back. read more

Granted it was a busy Tuesday when all of the other fish and chips restaurants were closed, and the place was hopping and the servers were all trying their best! But they ran out of fish and chips before 6pm. We got the last few. I'm afraid to say that they were just mediocre (a bit chewy/overcooked, and we prefer the beer batter style and this was not it). And the fries were not crispy. My street tacos were of the tiny variety with shredded fish (sorta looked like canned tuna, shredded and fried), with some cole slaw on top. I went into the dive yesterday. There was one very young waitress there, very snarky, and not too bright. I asked if I could see a menu. She gave me a menu and then said "we are closed." their prices are about double of what a person should pay for any kind of food, and most of the things on the menu are not available. read more

Let me start by saying that this is the best overall service and food we've had in a long time. We got into town about 25 mins before they closed so we walked in to check and see if they'd still serve us. They were more than happy to accommodate us! The staff all made sure to come by our table to say hi and be friendly. The food is amazing, fast and impressive. Do yourself a favor and eat here. Our food was really tasty.we got the BLT with avocado and the french dip. The BLT had mounds of bacon. Yummy. The fish and chips and chowder were average but it's probably not what folks come here for. The location was clean and welcoming and portions were large. What a nice surprise for lunch! Excellent food with great service. My husband had the burger Pop'n Portside burger (cheese burger with jalapeño poppers and thick cut bacon) and he said it was the best burger he's had in a long time. The two-piece fish and chip is huge it's amazing filet of fish like two pieces of the whole fish it's ginormous. Comes with french fries and coleslaw. Both really good flavor. The French dip is huge. Okay my fries and coleslaw. Staff is very friendly efficient made a great suggestion I got a cup of chowder you should too it's good. Perfect Benedict for Sunday brunch! Perfectly cooked poached egg, local hand cut ham with a proper hollandaise a top a lightly toasted English muffin. I had the standard Benedict but looking forward to trying the crab next.
