Came here as a surprise for my partners birthday. Our reservation was at 8:45, we were told we could be taken to our seats at 9:15. So not only were we going to be seated late but we were going to miss 15 minutes of the show that is only an hour long. Which is a lot to miss when you are paying a cover and a two drink minimum. When I asked the manager at the front about this he said, "do you want to go in or do you want to miss more of the show?" Which is incredibly rude and dismissive when we were just trying to understand. New York is home to many jazz clubs with a richer history than this one, and they manage to be courteous, respectful and professional whenever we visit, so we will be sticking to those in the future. read more

Terrible experience at The Django! My friend spoke with the manager before we sat down because he and his wife cannot drink alcohol. The manager told us that he can order 2 food items instead, which costs WAY more than drinks. After ordering appetizers, entrees, and dessert, there was an extra $18 charge for drinks that we did not order. When we asked the manager, he said that he added on the charge because my friends did not order drinks even though they ordered multiple appetizers, steaks, and dessert. The bill was over $400 with tip and they still wanted to add extra charges for NOT ordering drinks. I couldn't believe that the manager went back on his word. It's shameful that in these times businesses like this are trying to penny pinch customers, lie, and add on charges. Wow! I am so glad a local tipped us to go here, because it was fabulous. You have to call ahead to ensure you get in on busy nights, but do it - totally worth it if you like jazz and good drinks and food. We were able to grab a cozy table for two and were promptly served by multiple staff eager to get us what we wanted quickly. They have a 2 drink minimum (no prob) so I sipped on old fashions all night to my delight as the jazz played on. We split a meat and cheese board that was well made with plenty of delicious options. I've spoken with multiple employees over the phone, email, and Instagram DM to get in touch with a manager because The Django OVERCHARGED MY CREDIT CARD, but received no response from a higher-up. And so, I'm leaving this review. My friend and I attended a show in early March. The food and drink were tasty- extremely overpriced, but what can ya do? The jazz itself was very disappointing because the drums were overpowering the vocalist, whose mic audio was also too low. I'm not a NY local but I'm certain you can find a comparable jazz experience elsewhere for a more affordable price. Before going in, we were aware of the $35 cover fee, as well as the 2 drink minimum, but were still stunned by the final bill. Because all the charges were already so overpriced for an experience so disappointing, we chose not to leave a tip. A couple days later, I checked my banking app and noticed that someone had sneakily charged me an additional $16. I had clearly drawn a line through the tip section on the receipt, so it feels like this was the action of a wronged server. I totally understand the validity and importance of tips and I almost always tip, but at the end of the day, they are optional, and for this place to FRAUDULENTLY charge me $16 that I DID NOT CONSENT to paying, is pretty despicable. The most frustrating part, though, is that no one who could solve this issue was willing to contact me back. Needless to say, I won't be returning and I do not recommend The Django. read more

We were first seated towards the back/booth area which was fine with us, but then we were asked to switch tables because the hostess made a mistake and there was a big party coming in and they wanted to seat them in the area. Keep in mind there was already a party of 4 occupied next to us. We got up and had to walk the whole venue scanning for a table. We ended up sitting in the same area as where we were first seated, but at a high top table vs. the booth. Approx 10 mins later, the hostess sat two people in the SAME booth she made us get up from... which really left me unsettled. The existing party of 4 that was already there left and the hostess sat another party of 2. And another next to them. So there was no "large group" and essentially made us move for no reason? Super disappointing. Other than this inconvenience, the food, drinks, service from the wait staff was amazing. So were the performers. Super not cool. About a month and a half ago, I booked a reservation for 20 people for my birthday. I booked well in advance because this particular birthday is an important one to me personally. I was told there would be a $25 cover per person, but was never told about a group minimum spend. Two days out, they incorrectly canceled my reservation. I called to sort out the issue, and tried multiple times for about a day and a half, but kept getting sent straight to voice mail or was left ringing. When I finally got through to someone, they apologized for the experience and advised they would fix the reservation right away. I then got a call from the manager who informed me that they could not confirm my "new" reservation unless I agreed to a spend minimum of $75 per person, on top of the $25 cover. - A clause that was not previously communicated when I first booked. After debating it while, I was told there was thing they could do and that it was just "business" So after mishandling my month long reservation two days out and not bothering to pick up the phone for a day or so call me back, I was now expected to agree to additional terms otherwise my reservation would be canceled. Aka - they wanted me, the customer, to fix their mistake. On principal, I declined to fix their mistake. As of writing this, I'm now one day out from my b-day and now I have no where to take my group of 20 Customer Service is just that. It means serving the customer, owning your mistakes and making it right. It doesn't mean asking the customer to fix your mistake. It doesn't mean asking the customer to "try to understand". It isn't a hard concept, but apparently it's a struggle for the Managment of the Django. read more

I am a sucker for live instrumental music, great ambiance, service, and food. You truly cannot go wrong with any artist whether they're pure instrumentalists or add a bit of singing to their live performances. The servers were wonderful, especially my server Tony. He would interact with us frequently and not in an annoying manner. From the menu, I ordered the meat and cheese board. Perfect choice to presently enjoy the music and not be caught up in eating a dense meal. I stuck with the Groovin' High cocktail. I recently took a Whiskey Tour in Soho that was done by LeeAnn and this was the second stop. I had a great experience. The Django is a pretty awesome venue. It is the type of place that at least every classy New Yorker should visit at least once. I was fortunate enough to go on a night that Charles Turner was playing. It was a pretty awesome surprise. The band was great. The songs were great and the place was really beautiful. It was such a nice place that my wing man joked that he didn't know a girl worthy of taking there. His loss is your gain. We went for the early set (band plays from 7:30-8:30) - your $20 cover +2 drinks gets you an hour and a half at the table. We got seated at 7pm, with half hour to get our drinks and talk a bit before the music started, then enjoyed the band for the next hour. Initially I thought that seemed like a short span, but we really enjoyed ourselves and it was plenty of time. The band took a break before the next set and everyone was given the option of paying another cover charge and going for the next set - I'm sure most people left and made way for the later round of reservations. Gorgeous atmosphere, good drinks. A very New York experience to take my brother and his girl friend to while visiting. The band said they were the first big band back since Covid, so that was heart warming to be there for the return - no more online concerts with the musicians playing in separate screens! read more

This jazz club has a romantic and lovely atmosphere that brings me back to the 80s/ 90s. The stage has a curved ceiling that reminds me of a bomb shelter. The musicians are talented. Some are good looking too. Besides the ambience, the cocktails are delicious and the waitress/waiter are often friendly. The only disappointing thing is the food selections. Long story short, there is a 2 drink minimum per person. We cleared it with the manager for my wife and I order a full dinner (2 food items, appetizer and entree) both more expensive than drinks since we don't drink. Our other friends met their drink minimum. Guess what got added to the tab at the end of the night? The manager/waitress sneaked in an additional $18 charge for drinks we did not order. After we raised a big stink about it (you can look at our receipt we spent $350+ in food/drink far surpassing an 8 drink minimum for our group) the manager still was not willing to refund the charge. We finally settled on getting two beers that we gave to our friends to go to make up for the charge. He asked, you good? Come for Friday night shows. There's a band playing in the Roxy lobby, which is a very cool and casual vibe. But downstairs at Django, shows start at 8 and 10:30. Come for the 10:30, grab yourself a delicious cocktail and enjoy the best show of your life. Cocktails are inventive and gorgeous. I had a taste of my friend's "Falls Cocktail" (with bourbon, lemon ginger syrup, mint, bitters) - very refreshing. I ordered the "French 75" with cognac, lemon, champagne - loved it! Cocktails are a bit steep at $18, but considering you're getting to see an amazing show/performance for free, it's well worth it. Friendly service. Well behaved crowd. Alvin and crew set the tone for an incredible night of jazz during my stay at the Roxy! I was visiting NY for work, and Alvin made me feel welcome, even though I was on my own on a Saturday night. Such a cool, intimate space to hear outstanding jazz. Classy yet down to earth. Incredible acoustics and lines of sight. We came here a few years ago for cocktails and music. Music and ambiance is great. Came back tonight and the food and the cocktails were both subpar. The stars are basically for the good music and ambiance. My partner and my brother both got the burger; which was pretty dry and flavorless. I got the steak and two cocktails which included tequila. The steak which I requested be medium rare, was cold and medium. Both cocktails were way too sugary and tasted almost basically like simple syrup. My other friend got the kale Caesar salad and it was extremely salty. Disappointed because it's not a cheap dinner. Basically I would recommend getting dinner prior to coming here, and maybe only getting an appetizer or wine and beer once listening to the music.
