After spending an afternoon at the discovery Museum, a few blocks away, we popped in for lunch. It's a quaint little corner store, right next to the Maryland theater. The venue can be overwhelming, with lots of choices. One section of the menu was dedicated to hotdogs, one section is dedicated to non-hotdog entrées, and also Appetizers, desserts, and drinks. The dogs here are amazing! I loved the Chicago dog, but when I had my a bite of the Big Mac dog I wished I got that one too.Then we had the pastrami dog making it a three dog night. The fries are also especially delicious because they are crunchy and battered. My little one had a kids meal that came with fries and he was forced to share. With any hotdog, you get your choice of beef,/chicken, or veggie. We went beef all the way, and it was a great choice. The dogs are split and grilled on a flat top, and maintain all of their juicy goodness. And the toppings just enhanced everything. If you're a hotdog purist, ketchup and relish or mustard and onions would also make for perfect dogs. The staff was friendly and super accommodating to a feral toddler. For three hotdogs, a kids meal, I need rings, and drinks, the $40 price felt like a bargain. Great quality and value. read more

Ok so we went there on Saturday over the past weekend. It was about 5:30. I got a Chicago dog, which was excellent, the all beef. Husband got the foot long coney dog and my son got a sausage with some kind of sauce on it. I eat about 2 hot dogs a year so when I say it was delicious, I mean it. Now the bad. My 4 year old grandson got grilled cheese. It took forever for the food to come out. Like forever forever. He ate like nothing bc he drank his whole drink while we were waiting as we had been at the park for a couple of hours beforehand. I know, not unusual for a little guy. That's not the real problem. I got a side of onion rings and it was almost $5 for like 6 onion rings. Ketchup in little packets... not cost efficient and annoying for us. Had to track down waitress to get husband a second beer and me a first. There was no air conditioning and it was so hot in there!! AND THE WORST THING OF ALL... WHEN THE BILL CAME THERE WAS A 20% INCLUDED GRATUITY FOR "LARGE PARTY", which was not discussed. First of all, it was 4 ppl. That is not a large party. Second of all, this was not mentioned by staff. I see this sometimes with a group of 8 or more and it is usually noted in a menu somewhere or mentioned. But 4 people is not a large party. My husband and I both worked in the restsurant industry in our younger years. We get it, servers need to be taken care of, but come on. BEWARE. I would have gone back for that hot dog even with the sloooowww service and just not gotten a side, but that automatic gratuity thing is ridiculous. Customer lost. read more

Very friendly staff and a menu full of delicious options. Food was hot and fresh. The atmosphere is nice but the temperature inside was a little too warm for me today. I'm sure it was to balance out the cold air coming in every time the doors opened but it was a little uncomfortable. With that being said I would definitely recommend people stop in! Passing through Hagerstown on our way back from Berkeley Springs where, unless it's Mary's Vegetarian restaurant Vegetarian entrees - if there are any - are usually limited to a too creamy and heavy pasta dish. Plus almost any of the zillion types of hot div dishes can be made with the veggie dogs. Hubby had the pastrami beef dog. I had that, minus the pastrami, which went to hubby, and with added crunchy onion. Young woman who helped us was lovely, and helped us make our choices. Lived the old time atmosphere and will return any time we're passing through. Metered street parking. Handicap accessible entry. I think they sell beer and ice cream too. read more

1st time through the area and decided to hit up a local spot like usual and this dog spot came across my radar. We came and ordered a mix of dogs: the coney, chipotle, pretzel and the Mac dog. We mixed the type of meat; there's beef, pork and chicken; so we had them all mixed up. Topped it off with a Golden Ale from the local Antietam brewery and holy crap was it great! Delicious hot dogs! Grateful that they have vegan dogs, too. Fried peanut butter and jelly is an Uncrustable, but still delicious. Food is cheap and yummy! Service was fast. Horrible service! We were the only table for about 15 minutes at 12N(a party of 4). However,a party after us received their food before we did. We were not offered ice with our drinks. I had to go find a glass to get my own ice. Each of us ordered fries with our hot dogs/ burgers, but none of it came out together. My mom and I had our fries first. At least 10 minutes before the other items started to arrive. My grandson had his cheese fries at the very end of his meal. He ordered cheese fries and we sent them back due to missing the actual cheese. We had to ask for ketchup twice in which we received 4 single packets total. LOL. I cannot make this up. I had to get up and go ask for lettuce, onions and pickles that were left off a burger. We were never offered refills! The waitress was horrible and had no business working tables. Her shirt kept lifting and the tights she had on wouldn't stay up. She had no appropriate dress code. I have no issue with modernizing uniforms but belly fat in my face as you continue to bring my food piece by piece was too much. Another waitress was perfectly put together. Our server never returned to the table. We had to leave the table to get our check. Were used our please and thank you's. Never complained once. However, it was not reciprocated. Food was ok. Passed this place driving two days ago and immediately knew I had to check it out; fortunate to be back on this side of town today and hungry at the same time. Ducked in around dinner time and was promptly greeted by Jay and his team (awesome people)! Reviewed the menu to see all the dog styles and ultimately picked one by the "place finger randomly in the page" method because they all looked so good. The selection of the Coney Special Dog did not disappoint, thigh next time I must try the Maryland Dog! Warm and courteous service coupled with good ol' fashioned comfort food, and the price is right too - what's not to love?! I go here about once a week with my friends when schools in session (well we try to), it's never disappointed. The foods always great, the costumer service is also great, all the servers are just amazing. The inside is always clean too!! Plus if they can deal with my friends and I coming in about every week then they really are saints. Great hot dogs! The wife and I loved it. Jay is very personable and made the whole experience enjoyable.

Somehow our food ticket got lost and the wait was rather long. Who we assume was an owner did apologize and offered free drinks while we waited for our carry out order. We had the Maryland dog, buffalo chicken dog and chili all which were excellent. We would have liked to see more of a mask compliance with employees. We also observed a kitchen employee touch the checkout iPad with gloves on and then continue to make food without changing the gloves. Customers also walked in and were never greeted by employee/owner who was sitting in booth watching tv. Food is excellent but took away a star for customer service. ABOVE IS THE ORIGINAL REVIEW for which I gave 4 stars on google reviews and had recommended on Facebook. The Dog House has quickly become one of my favorite hometown lunch spots. I absolutely love the chipotle and Hollywood dogs. There is so much flavor and so many choices to choose from. The only suggestion that I have to improve this business is (aside from the side items like French fries and onion rings) the temperature of the food. It seems to only ever be luke-warm. The chili on the chipotle dog should be hot enough to melt the American cheese but it is not. Other than that- great job! read more

I love this place. Great variety of hot dogs available with beer at the ready. The staff and owner are stand up individuals. They are extremely kind and hospitable to their customers. Many people will opt to grab a hot dog at a gas and go place like Sheetz. You can keep driving and get indigestion all at the same time. That's your loss. I have been here three times, and have brought my motherIL here and she loved it as well. The food is reasonably priced, it's good, homemade, Homestyle food. I will always eat there whenever I'm in Hagerstown or sometimes I will drive there (only a 20 min drive) when I have a craving. I highly recommend it, I do have pictures but not on this phone, when I do I will update this review & post them. I love the Tea & Lemonade that is made by them, but last time my tea was old and for some reason she charged me extra for the lemonade And it too was no good bc it was the end of the night, I ended up having root beer and she never changed the charge or tea or the lemonade, idk that was the only issue I've had really there. The owner is super nice, I do believe it's a family ran business everyone is family other than the cashier, who I believe may have been new, but is not who made the up charge or anything, that was one of the owners. But otherwise I love the place! Please go support them and try the food out! read more
