I had a very uncomfortable experience at this cinema parking lot The cashier asked me "Where are you from?" without explaining the reason, which confused me. When I said "I'm sorry" because I didn't understand the question, she rolled her eyes at me. Later, she suddenly asked me to show my movie ticket to confirm whether I had just been to the cinema. I understand that checking tickets may be part of her job, but her attitude was unprofessional and disrespectful. I have been to this cinema many times before and was never asked to show my ticket in this situation. I also asked friends who work in the same industry, and they said this is not a normal practice. It is acceptable to check tickets if necessary, but the way she communicated--rolling her eyes and not explaining clearly--was inappropriate. Castle and Cook, a company that I grew up admiring as one of the premier businesses in hawaii, should be ashamed for letting this property fall in disrepair. This property once housed the Dole Pineapple Cannery. It was turned into a shopping mall and houses a number of diverse businesses. Three years ago, I visited the center. The escalators were not working. On today's visit, the escalators are still not working. The restrooms had out of order signs posted. I was looking for Olena by Chef Ron. The mall directory was antiquated. OLENA was not listed on the directory. The customers and the businesses deserve better. read more

I like that this spot has lots of sitting area, and very spacious enough for everyone to be at least 6ft apart with the COVID-19 restrictions in place. The restaurant choices are few but they are good. I've eaten several times at the 808 Lunch spot and they do not disappoint, whether it's for breakfast or lunch. You can get your parking validated and stay the whole day for just $8. There are other shopping spots in the building as well as on the Costco side of the building if you decide to venture off. read more

Just redoing my initial review to say that 11 months later the parking attendant is still SHADY! So make sure before you hand over your ticket you know the exact time you stamped in. I stamped in at 9:29 AM today and handed my ticket to the attendant at 10:28 AM. She charged me for 2 hours and I explained that I should only be charged for 1 hour. She then tried to explain to me that 1 hour and 2 minutes was the same charge as being there for 2 hours. So I pointed at my phone and explained that the math of 10:28 AM minus 9:29 AM was less than 1 hour... not 1 hour and 2 minutes. She as soooo mad at me!!! But she allowed me to pay for only 1 hour worth of parking. read more

Blast from 35 years in the past...when it was an actual smelly, haunting and 24-hour operating cannery that grudgingly and temporarily, employed the likes of me and other unwashed hooligans of my tribe to trim succulent fruit. Now, the "shops" comprise of a esoteric mix of thrift, retail and commercial office spaces on two floors. How the mall has survived since 1991 is bewildering. Clearly, the Eco Thrift Outlet has the most efficient, mesmerizing mix of luxury and common goods for a storefront. The "food court" is a smattering of weak outlets that seem to breathe on rented canisters of oxygen. You could literally shoot a trimmed cored pineapple down a hallway without damaging a single thing, with the exception of a 88-year old janitor pushing mop bucket...with a flat tire. The panoramic scale model of the Dole Cannery, old time labels and historic pictures are fun. Try the Dole Whip at the coffee shop. read more

Great experience. We got 4 D tickets. With an action movie it pairs perfectly. We used the Fandango app to purchase our tickets a week in advance. Opting for the late night 10:30 pm show was perfect. Tons of free parking on the first level. It's free because by the time you get out everything is shut down and you just drive out the gates. We printed our tickets via the kiosk by scanning the barcode in the Fandango app. You could also use apple wallet for this. OK well enough about all of that now onto the good stuff. The quality of the picture was really good. 3-D was very good and made it fun to watch. They provide your glasses when you walk in and they're individually wrapped for health and safety reasons which I really liked. There was no line at the snack bar it probably took about 10 minutes after we ordered the food for us to get our food which is decent. We got the mini corn dog bites that taste really good we also got the chicken tenders and fries which were really good. And the popcorn of course was great. Now the 4D, okay so we didn't think about it when we ordered our food that we would've in a seat that had a lot of motion because we chose 4D. But I would suggest maybe not getting so many snacks if you're going to go to an action packed 4D movie. Nevertheless the experience was great I think everyone should try a 4D experience at least once. The tickets are a little bit more pricey. But it is so much fun. I can't wait to go back for another 4D experience. I'm just going to eat my dinner before I go there and probably only get popcorn and a drink. read more

NEVER GO TO dole Cannery if there's any chance of rain! We came to have a fun Friday night which turned pretty much into a nightmare. And to add insult to injury when we asked if they had a golf cart or someone who could drive us up into the parking structure because their elevator broke... The staff giggled and said no and that this happens every time it rains. So they knew this could happen and did nothing to prepare to help customers like me who are handicapped. There was a time when the brand DOLE meant Quality, Service, and Health... Now it just means the opposite. So sad :( read more

Ghosts of the working past. Once an operating pineapple processing plant, it became a visitor tour operation with accompanying retail operations. It then converted into a straight retail operation with a mini food court on the second floor. Today it's a ghost of its former self, the main concourse area is pretty empty with more office, specialty retail operations that probably does not appeal to the general populous. Seems to have lots of tenant space available. There is a role playing game store and specialty candy store that seem pretty popular. Worth a visit for the many posters/pictures of a bygone pineapple era. Trivia: a place where you can still find working pay phones in a funky open booth. read more

When locals mention Dole Cannery, it brings to mind the pineapple industry where many of our grandparents, parents or relatives whose first and maybe last paying jobs were. Along with my older sisters and brother, we all took part working a Summer or two at the cannery as my parents wanted us to learn a strong or disciplined work ethic albeit monotonous. When it was my turn to "take my place" in the workforce, I chose to work as a pineapple trimmer. Man, I loved it because I was always good with cooking knife skills and this job helped to hone my quickness. By the end of my first Summer, I was "promoted" to running the famed Ginaca machine which was basically the first automated pineapple processor. The ONLY part of working at the pineapple cannery that I detested was having to catch the bus back home to Kaimuki smelling like pineapple juice and sometimes feeling like my skin was burning from the splashes of citric acid. The pineapple is a symbol of "hospitality" and it (along our tropical and exotic island allure) has brought many visitors to Hawai'i. The Dole Cannery can be credited to Jim Dole, who in 1899, bought 64 acres in the central plains of O'ahu to plant pineapple and the Hawaiian Pineapple Company. If you visit our island, you'll find the tourist attraction Dole Plantation located just on the outskirts of Wahiawā. This attraction (former fruit stand and then plantation home) is actually located in the MIDDLE of the original Dole pineapple fields. Eh, ever had that famous treat called "Dole Whip"? Yup, it originated from here! Oh, but, I digress... the cannery was opened in 1907 and located in the Iwilei district. It took up 42 acres and at one point in history, was the largest cannery of any sort in the World. But, in 1991, the cannery closed and was transformed into a 700,000 sq ft of office and retail complex with a 18-theater complex called the Regal Dole Theaters. In the retail complex side, there were shops featuring gourmet chocolates and desserts, a crack seed store, customized local private school uniforms and uniforms for medical and food service. There are some fast food joints and specialty coffee shops. So, other than the memories that I had about working in the cannery, as I roamed the retail complex, I could still imagine the sights, smells and sounds of the production line. There are many exhibits or displays that can provide you with a historical look of days gone by. read more

I always complain about spending money on things I don't need at craft fairs. So I quickly browsed hoping not to find anything I'd like, that is until I saw the products by Be.Loved. I walked away telling myself I don't need it, and as I got closer to exiting, I walked back and I did this 3 times. Ended up buying t-shirt and a long matching necklace, which I don't regret buying. I have been to many craft fairs held at Dole Cannery, and they tend to have different vendors each time, not very many vendors in attendance, I would guess about 35 vendors? They are located on the 2nd floor right up the escalators. Because the vendors are set up between walkways, it is very tight and sort of difficult to shop, but that don't stop crafters from attending. The Dole Cannery was once the central processing facility for Dole Pineapple. Trains and trucks would come into this place with fresh pineapples ready to be peeled and packaged during the Hawaiiana boom in the 1940s through 1960s. It is a massive facility where the canning was also done; rings, wedges, and everything in between. With refrigeration and other speedy methods of delivery, people eat fresh pineapple all over the world. There was no need for such a large facility for canned products. A giant pineapple used to grace the roof that could be seen all over the city. The facility sat empty until it was developed for office and retail space. I'm unsure if this venture was ever successful, but the Dole Cannery stands today as a dead mall. I love dead malls! The empty stores, long hallways, abandoned signage, and history everywhere you look. This place has the benefit of advertising artwork, old machinery and artifacts, and placards everywhere. It's like a quasi-museum to the history of the building. It's a great place to escape the heat and yet still walk around. Parking is ample, both garage and the private lot (the latter is the recommended as it's free without validation). It's kept clean, bright, and welcoming with tables, benches, and plants. Public restrooms are available, but you'll need to ask security or a store for the codes. Just because the mall is dead, doesn't mean it's devoid of activity. A few food places can be found here: a Chinese restaurant, one of the worst Subways in the world, a convenience store, and new coffee shop and chocolate store. A number of stores are also scattered about including Armchair Adventurer (board games), Toy Lynx (card games), a uniform store, and others. With all the tables, the main area is perfect for game competitions and other community events. Of course, Regal Theatres Dole Cannery is a big staple and my favorite place for movies, which is also part of the complex. The Pomaikai Ballrooms are also here, a great place for private events. Dole still has its purposes and I find myself here more often than is necessary! read more

Why only 4 stars cause there is so much more to explore in this building located next to my workplace. I discovered Dole Cannery when I was working as a contractor for Kaiser Permanente and they were moving from one of their older locations to the office buildings located in this building. Since I rode the bus before I would pass this place and took note to the movie theater, small theatre, ballrooms and eateries. Not realizing the rich history this once thriving cannery for many pineapple workers use to frequent as their place of employment. From the outside it is not much to write home about it looks like a building and inside it still looks unimpressive but place business within the walls and use the facilities to house events and you will see the ole cannery come to life. There is a movie theatre across the warehouse likely erected for parking and to place ballrooms and other businesses. The only thing I will complain about the food establishments and coffee shop is only open when the businesses are open so after 5pm it will be hard to come for food and drinks so you will be force to buy food either at the movie theatre or the other food establishments outside of Dole cannery. Besides that it is a nice history that was restored from the past. read more

It's been close to 10 years since the last time I visited The Dole Cannery. I walked around the shopping center to see what was interesting. I noticed there was a sign on the entrance doors informing that there was no public restrooms. Really?? I did find the mens and women restroom only they needed a special code to access it (I wonder if the restrooms are for employees only). A lot has changed since my last visit. What ever happened to the food court that was located up stairs? I was craving for a small hamburger from McDonald's...only to find out that they no longer exists. I guess the food court got moved downstairs but the only food establishment that was open was Subways. There was the Dole Cannery Mini Mart that was opened for individuals who wanted to purchase small items. I didn't know that The Actors Guild (TAG) was located here. I also didn't know that the Oceanic VIP Music Hall was located here. I noticed a jewelry store, Eye Center of Hawaii, a massage parlor, China Bazaar, Toylynx, as well as the main office for the vendor who supplies the hard liquors to many businesses that sells alcohol. How long ago did Rascals Family Fun Center open? I didn't recognize that business the last time I was at The Dole Cannery. I do recognize the Regal movie theaters. It's been a long time since I've watched a movie at this theater. There were a lot of empty store fronts. Will there ever be a revival of store fronts here at The Dole Cannery? Or will it be shutting it's doors one store front at a time? Only time will tell. read more

Had to take a fat shit so im running through the parking lot, pass under the glorious dole cannery sign thinking salvation at last! I cut left to be greeted by a elevator/restroom sign, elated I continue my run down the hall and see two private restrooms. I begin to panic so I callout desperately to the nearest employee, "sir where are your restrooms?" He points further down the hall toward the common area. Im thinking thank christ to my self and go SPRINTING at this point to the rest room. I see the sign and breathe a sigh of relief and begin to relax my butt hole in anticipation of this massive dump... but lo and behold this thing has a num pad realizing all hope is lost I shit my pants folks. So i walk over to the nearest un named shop ask for the code, Keep in mind I smell like shit and have a distressed look about me. This lady tells me no public rest room i need to buy something and I left my wallet in my car cause I took off in such a hurry. Long story short, walk far get my wallet all covered in shit:( and lost some cool boxers. PS I know they lock the bathrooms to keep the crackheads out. PPS The bathrooms are really nice read more

Dole Cannery is a sleepy yet interesting mall home to several restaurants and stores. I stop by at Toylynx occasionally when I want to get gaming supplies, visit the Subway and Chinese restaurant, and use the restrooms there. This mall is not very big compared to Ala Moana Center or Pearlridge Center but it still works. There are not many businesses here, but the ones that are here are decent to great. Parking is located on the Costco side of the mall. Dole Cannery extends all the way to Regal Theaters at Dole. read more

Dole Definition of a DEAD Mall! When the full on double locks go on the bathrooms and deadbolt locks go onto power outlets inside the eating areas- it is a sure sign that it is a dead mall. Yes- It is really close to IHS but if there were people in the mall on a regular basis, many homeless people go to where they are not bothered on purpose... but people need to be there in order to necessitate having a normal security presence. Let's think of what GGP does for Ala Moana or what is expected at Kahala Mall.... There is a normally updated website, there is a monthly flyer with coupons and ads to promote business, and a stage with local community performers to bring family and friends into the walking mix. None of this at DOLE! Basically, there is a spa, a fake 7/11, a Chinese fast food, a subway, the pokemon/ magik card store, two uniform places and then just office space use. The Dept of Ed. Teachers accreditation does not need to be in a mall. Really- the number of times a person needs to visit that office is between 0 -1 times, cause stuff can be done online. Really the CAM must be horrible cause there is open air holes in walls where they could put doors instead of doors on the bathrooms so that the A/C stays in the building instead of leaving. For a few reasons it's upsetting- the energy wasted makes HI a worse place for it. IT is a waste on CAM, and people get annoyed. More than once- Germanic speaking tourists have stopped me- and asked where is the food court, and I laugh because the sign is still up which they point to, but I explain that there is just 1 Chinese place and subway. So then they walk away. I go here to go to the movies or sit indoors after getting Costco. Still- it needs to improve because of it's great historic value. read more

I was at The Dole Cannery on Saturday April 9, 2016. Myself along with my husband, our 6 years old daughter and 6 month old baby daughter decided to get something to eat and relax while we waited for our vehicle to be worked on by the nearby Firestone on Dillingham. Got a latte, hot chocolate and some chocolates from Padovani's. We decided to go sit at the table inside upstairs near the escalators at about 2:15pm in the afternoon. Soon after sitting a few minutes we heard a power saw and saw dust was flying everywhere. Just around the corner about 100 or so feet from us two men were doing some costruction work. I approached the two men and asked them to stop, one named Jamie the other I don't think spoke English. The man named Jamie told me this is his job and this is his time to work. I asked him is this appropriate to be sawing indoors with no ventilation, we are breathing the sawdust. He told me that I should go somewhere else to eat and that he has permission from the management to work in the middle of the mall steps away from the escalators. I tried contacting the management office, but only could reach the security. Security officer named Ford came to meet me at the top of escalators at about 2:45pm. I explained the situation to her, she explained to me that yes those men do have permission to work there and that the 2nd floor is closed during this time. If the 2nd floor is supposed to be "closed" then why are the escalators functional and why is there NO barrier and NO dust screen? Do they not realize that it is hazardous to be sawing indoors without a protective mask. There were at least 150 people there that day indoors just downstairs from where these men were sawing with sawdust flying around the ficility with central air on. read more

My husband and I checked out the area after a little visit to Costco. I wanted some of the dole whip which I got at the coffee shop. We walked around the whole area and enjoyed each other's company. I read some peoples reviews saying that its a dead mall, this is correct, but its relaxing and historic. I didn't experience the bug problem some people noted, so thats been taken care of. They whole ware does have tons of sand bags outside, I believe that is due to the recent flooding they experienced. read more

We actually attended an event at a ballroom here. I thought it was a great venue! It had an attached parking structure shared with the theaters. $6 validates parking was a little expensive, but we weren't fighting for parking and we were covered from the elements wether it be hot or rainy. There are 3 elevators and the event was filled with a lot of people, but it still did not feel crowded. A lot of space!!! There was a stage set up, and there were 3 lines for the buffet lunch. Food tasted great, although I don't know if it was catered in house. I couldn't tell you how much it cost, but I think this is a great place to book an event. read more

I believe that the Cannery has potential and that it could do a lot better in reviving the center. Considering that it is located by a homeless shelter, the Cannery should be more of a mall rather than an office complex, but that will bring in more homeless people and bring in more rules to the center (thank you homeless people for that, we DON'T owe you one). The Wi-Fi really sucks and the places where we can recharge or "recharge" is very limited (2 points for the Homeless), oh and the bathrooms smell like someone died (I think that was 3 points already!! The Homeless are on a roll). I wish that there were more places and the local and franchised businesses that would come together and create a mall so that it brings in people and not business deals. If it's called a mall, then why the offices?! They should reconsider in moving to the office building and leave the mall area to the shops and the restaurants. Worse place to park your vehicle. Security doesn't know how to do his job and my car was broken into. Three vehicles were broken into that night and to top it off there is no footage. This is very common I am told by the security so I really don't know why they don't hire more people. Apparently whoever in charge is okay with this. If I could rate these guys I would give this review negative stars!!! read more
