An underrated shopping mall in the underbelly of Honolulu: City Square Shopping Center. It is located in Kalihi...and, no Kamehameha Schools doesn't own the property. They have a little bit of everything from bakeries to grocery stores. The venerable Kamehameha Bakery opens at 200a on weekdays but most establishments open their doors between 800a and 930a. The Marketplace - a seafood and farmera market in one space - opens at 800a; they have food vendors inside if you want takeaway. Lots of eateries...a couple of salons...and Kalihi Pet Center. Four low-rise buildings make up the center spanning from Dillingham Boulevard to Kalani Street. Yes, until the rail is finished in this area - traffic is horrid. Entranceways / exits are on Kohou Street and Kalani St. Lots of parking stalls for patrons. Hours are primarily between 800a and 400p for most businesses. read more

What's your favorite place... I do come here for many of the business and honestly it's in The Markeplace at City Square which is the place right beside Chuck E Cheese and it's to sharpen my knives at AFrame. This area is in the midst of the crazy rail project as it's heading directly in its path for us to access yet you don't have to entree via Dillingham as the roads are nuts along with Kohou Street is closed for traffic just use the other entrance from Kalani Street as it's filled with so many great local small biz and lots of free parking it's the place to get lunch, produce shopping or just a Sip like I did at this new spot that just recently opened. Whatever it is they basically have it and I just can't avoid it even with the crazy construction going on in fact makes me want to support these biz further. Thank you! read more

Located in the City Square Shopping Center on the Dillingham blvd side of the center. Lots of parking shared with other businesses and restaurants, and street parking also. One stop shop under roof if you are looking for produce, seafoods, fresh chicken and pork, they also have a cooked food restaurant inside towards the back near the restrooms and a used clothing shop and fresh eggs vendor. If you have no time to fight for parking in Chinatown this is one way to get around it! read more

Go here right now and you will feel like you were transported to another country. I have heard it called ChinaTown North and it is wonderful. There are all kinds of great finds here including fresh fresh produce and fish I have no clue how to cook. I smiled feeling I was back in Asia and seeing things like durians for sale. They definitely need to widen the parking and add more handicap parking stalls. Sitting in the restaurant eating my breakfast I had a front row seat to watch others try and fit into the narrow stalls. Several of them ended up over lapping the stall next to them and just giving up, staying like that as they dashed into the various shops to grab something and go. read more

Five stars for City Square Shopping Center (CSSC) CSSC is a great shopping center in the lower Kalihi area. It's situated next to the Kapālama Canal and diagonally across from the Honolulu Community College. CSSC houses numerous great businesses such as Sugoi (the best garlic chicken), Thang's, Kamehameha Bakery (home of the poi malasadas), Young's Fishmarket, UBAE, and many many more. There's the Chinatown Marketplace and a variety of other stores such as a pet store and even a 7-Eleven with a gas station next door. I like to visit CSSC earlier in the morning versus latter in the day. The parking lot gets crazy crowded later in the day, so it's better to hit there earlier, if can. There's also metered parking on the perimeter of CSSC, if there's no parking available. Overall, a great little shopping center in Kalihi with a variety of great businesses. Enjoy! read more

Parking is cray cray but what's even more cray cray is the grumpy ol security guard. I guess HCC students would park here for classes because it is free but they're not supposed too as it is only for customers. The security guard watches cars and marks their tires with I'm assuming chalk. And if it hasn't moved after 3 hours, he writes you a nice (sarcastic) ticket. So if you plan on spending a good amount of time here, be sure to always move your car around..whether you are getting your hair or nails done, dining at the pancake place and getting some groceries...best to just move it or pay the meter on the street.. read more

Love this place. Lots of ample parking and it's FREE. Mom likes to come here to get her produce and it beats me having to go to Chinatown and pay for parking and deal with the homeless. The kids love to go to the comic bookstore, Kamehameha bakery is also in the same shopping center, the pancake restaurant, Ubae, and Sugois. Were fond of the boba spot b/c they use fresh fruits as opposed to the powders for flavoring. read more

City Square Shopping Center is located between Dillingham Boulevard and a little pass Kalani Street. It's a very big area that consists of different food establishments, Koolau Farmers, pet shop, hair salon, a little toy shop, credit union, 7-11, as well as produce and fish market. The Department of Motor Vehicles was located at the City Square Shopping Center. They have now been relocated to a different building in Kalihi. There are ample of parking in front of the many businesses. There's even a section with small picnic tables for people to use. Tables can be used to enjoy a meal, sit down and talk story with coworkers, or smoke a cigarette. I have been to the City Square Shopping Center several times. Twice to Kamehameha Bakery to buy some freshly baked pastries. Once to Pancakes & Waffles to have breakfast since I was craving for pancakes. Twice to have onolicious Hawaiian food from Young's Fish Market. Too many food establishments to check out. Visits to City Square Shopping Center will happen in the future. 34/100 read more

Bought Arizona green tea thought it would be 99 cents, but no they sold it for $2 almost $3. I asked why? Can clearly say 99 cents. Told her no matter where you buy this they have to sell it for 99 cents and asked why are you guys selling it for more than 99 cents. Owner says they can sell it for as much as they want.. I said it's illegal to sell something different to what's its advertising. Owner says No and hush me out. read more

City Square Shopping Center is a busy and smaller mall. There are about a dozen or two restaurants and businesses in a couple of buildings. It is very popular and a little hard to find parking at times. A bunch of the parking stalls are reserved for the DMV to use for road testing. Besides this, there are a number of restaurants, a pet shop, nail salon, Satellite City Hall, and more here. My favorite restaurant in this complex is Pho Ha Long. One thing to note is to make sure that you park in the lines in stalls here. I got creative when there was no parking stalls open and made my own stall and got into trouble one time. City Square Shopping Center is a nice place to stop by for food, drink, and to get your government paperwork done. read more

My wife and I went to buy fruits and vegetables from the market. While standing in line, the door person told me that my face mask was too thin; therefore, my entry was denied. I was upset. How did he know that my face mask was too thin? Did he feel the mask? Did he take measurements of the mask? I was allowed entry into the market place before. The type of mask was used at my job at the airport, at supermarkets, restaurants, etc. I will never patronize this place ever again!!! I called the mall management about this incident, not call back as off this writing. read more

They did a renovation, new tables and arrangements makes the restaurant look bigger and brighter. Friends ate the eggplant miso chicken which they said was Ono. Enjoyed the soki soba. Very tasty and good size. Our waitress was funny and very helpful. Good service read more

I give this place 4 stars just because of all the various places you can eat here. My personal faves being Sugois, Youngs Fish Market & Chicken & Waffles. I also on occasion visit the pet store here & of course the main reason people stop by here is the fact that there is a DMV & Satellite City Hall located here. Came here to host a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. Found parking great. As host, you don't expect to leave after 3 hours with kids running wild. So after 4 hours we leave to find a paper rolled up on the windshield. Ok, great. So here I am looking for the fines for violation posted somewhere... none. Looking for the attendant to complain to and pay... none. Only get one sign saying about 3 hours. Don't even know if this is a legit looking paper since the person had to write in violation and I couldn't read it. What does this shopping center want a patron that spent bucks at Chucks to do? Pull out and hope to find another stall??! And to top it off, of all the party patrons, only my car had a ticket. What the person only patrols a small area of the parking lot?? The management company should pay my $20. read more
