I had seen this before online and was intrigued but saw how it was located in the Heights. A bit out of the way but then I saw the truck in Rice Village by the old Le Creuset! Unfortunately, they had run out of the cones/cups and we needed to wait another 30 minutes to get them and we needed to get going. They were supposed to be there the rest of the week so we specifically returned the next day - but no truck!!! We finally saw it again on a Saturday evening. It was uncharacteristically cold for Houston but I wanted to try it so we (Hubby and I) stopped by. They still had a lot of cones/cups left and there was no line for us but two more people lined up after us, probably due to the weather. They serve hot chocolate as well but I opted out as I wanted boba tea later. As for the main feature, you choose a cup or cone (I accidentally picked cup but still good), a spread (either Nutella, biscoff, or both), vanilla bean soft serve ice cream, and unlimited toppings. It comes with a "surprise finish" at the bottom - a strawberry at the bottom as a stopper. I got the cup, which came in a cup (haha), both the Nutella and biscoff, and I had Hubby pick the toppings. He chose peanut and Oreo and I chose the Andes mints. Five minutes later (they make each one to order), we had them in hand! It's a decent size. The toppings were pressed into the top and it turns out they also put the toppings in the middle so you do get it throughout your treat, so yay! I didn't taste Biscoff at all, but I definitely tasted the Nutella. Then again, chocolate would overtake cookie butter, haha.. The soft serve itself was fine; I didn't see any telltale specks of vanilla bean though. Then again, soft serve tends to not be anything but one color unless it's swirled. I just like my vanilla bean. The strawberry at the end gives it that perfect fruity ending. As for the special dough cup? It's awesome and different from your usual ice cream container. Although tooted as a donut cone, I think of donuts as more dough-y. This reminded me of a flattened out churro! All in all, a unique dessert-snack if you're in the area. It's not the cheapest (around $8) so probably not a regular thing but if you want to try something new, have something to celebrate, or just need a bit of indulgence, why not? Toppings are added, then soft serve and toppings again. Loved the concept and satisfied my sweet tooth craving for a while. At first, the cinnamon sugar cone was thin at the top but towards the bottom it was justtt right. Complaints? I wish the soft serve was colder and less runny. It's extremely messy to eat and drippin everywhere. Forget about sharing the cone with your significant otter or don't even think about eating in your car. And grab lots of napkins!! Also, we had to wait about 30 mins for 3 cones, but the workers made up for it with a gratis water or soda. The Dough Cone was located inside of Truck Yard (a bar in Eado) so we happily walked right into the bar, got our ice cream, and left. The service was GREAT! Albeit pricey for some fancy soft serve, they've got a winning product as far as mutant ice cream hybrids go. It all starts with the donut cone, rolled in cinnamon sugar. Avi reached out to me and was quite professional in the way he responded to my review. We had quite a long chat regarding my criticisms (to which I gave them some that weren't addressed on my review too) and I ended up coming two weeks later to see the results and wow do they really take their criticism seriously. There were quite a few quality of life changes in terms of topping arrangement and preparation that I'm looking forward to trying in the future. The breakdown of how I'd eat the cone is as follows: First, ask for an additional short cup, you may need it later. Because it's pure soft-serve, it will unfortunately melt fairly quickly, so take only ONE picture and immediately start eating. Time is of the essence as the toppings will start falling off if you're too slow. No worries about the brain freeze because it's not as cold as ice cream-ice cream. Once you get to the rim of your cone you can relax a bit but still keep up a decent pace. By now the soft serve will soak into the cone so you're gonna be in for a treat when you start eating the cone. I would finish the soft serve inside and start tearing at the doughcone itself until you can't comfortably put your fingers in the cup anymore.. ..and then I would go up and ask for a short cup to move your dough cone into. Like literally pick up your cone and put it in the short cup. It'll now be much easier to just bite off the cone and finish it :) Oh, and regards to the "trust us", I guess I didn't get it the first time but apparently they ask you like "do you like chocolate" or "do you like fruity" or something along those lines as a follow up. If they don't ask, tell them your preference before they make it so you don't have an experience like mine lol. I've been following the Dough Cone for a while now as they're quite active on their instagram. I even came here because they offered me a free cone-dae that I couldn't pass up. So, on a drive back from Austin, my first stop was to find this place and enjoy me some soft serve. Location: Obviously this changes refrequently, but I'm pretty sure they consistently visit Buffalo Bayou Park, so I'll write about that. Buffalo Bayou Park is probably one of the best spots in Houston to pitch your ice-cream truck. My bf and I were able to enjoy the soft serve while walking around the bayou under the shade of the trees. It was perfect. Food: We got the conedae, which is a cup where the internal walls are shmeared with either nutella, cookie butter, or a combo of both. At the bottom of the cup is pieces of the famous dough cone. The cup is then filled with soft serve and topped with your toppings of choice. We had ours topped with caramel drizzle and then the "Trust Us", which just means that they pick the toppings. You can always tell them what you don't prefer as a topping (like I hate nuts, so she didn't put nuts on top). It's really kind of cute and fun that this is even an option. Our conedae came out in less than 3 minutes and we were able to happily enjoy it after I took a million pictures. Price: I think I'd prefer to get an actual dough cone the next time around. I'm not sure how large it is, but the conedae and the doughcone start at $7.99, which honestly is quite expensive for the size. I definitely feel like you get more for your buck if you get the full-sized doughcone, which looks quite large in the other yelp pictures. Perhaps they didn't get me a true conedae and instead gave me the mini one since it was for free? I'm really unsure, but theres no way it was worth $7.99+. Upon looking at the pictures I'm almost positive they only gave me the mini which would still have been $5.99+ and not worth it. I like to judge things by how many bahn mis I can get for that price and honestly it was not worth two BBQ pork bahn mis with an egg. Bottomline: Get the actual full sized doughcone if you're really craving some dessert. The price is a bit steep. You really have to come here early if you want to get their doughcones! They only serve 50 cones a day. You have two options: getting the doughcone or a cone-dae (pretty much a dough bowl). You choose nutella or cookie butter that covers the inside lining of the dough, then they fill it with vanilla ice cream and then you choose your *unlimited* toppings! If you aren't sure what toppings to get, they have a "trust us" option. It's literally what it means where you trust them to do the toppings for you! I trusted them and they did an amazing job. They topped mine with walnuts (one of their secret yelp toppings), rainbow sprinkles, oreos and drizzled with nutella. I highly recommend getting cookie butter as the lining because it's something different from the notorious nutella. I thought the cookie butter suited the doughcone a lot better as well. I couldn't figure out what the aftertaste was but it pretty much mimicked boxed detergent or dish soap (if you know what that tastes like).
