We stopped in at The Drake on the Monday of the long weekend. I gotta say, it was a pleasant morning experience! We sat on the patio out back, it was well maintained and, despite a few rings on the table from the patio partiers the night before (which were wiped up within a few minutes of us sitting down), quite clean. The breakfast special on the holiday Monday wasn't the full menu. We had our choice of eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast or blueberry pancakes. I went for the pancakes. Three fluffy buttermilk flapjacks showed up at the table a little while later. I would've preferred a jug of syrup as opposed to the little paper cup that came with them, but it was enough to soak my pancakes in and, honestly, probably easier for the staff to clean up afterwards. Service was great, orders were taken, coffee was refilled, and meals brought and cleared in a reasonably amount of time. All in all, a nice top-off to my long weekend! read more

We came to the Drake to see Wil in concert in early December, so I can't REALLY comment on the food or service, as we attended for an event, and there were no tables out. My friends did order food for the concert however, and just ate it standing up. The chicken fingers were delicious. The bar service was efficient and friendly, the locals there however were not. Cool place for a concert, and an enjoyable night out. read more

The Drake is a fun pub to head out to if you're looking to go out in Canmore, enjoy some drinks and live music. We got there around 10 on a Saturday and the place quickly filled up, this is also when the live band was on. They played a good mix of music that everyone was able to sing along to. Don't even go there for food! You gonna waste your money and time. Last time I went for a meal it was on Taco Tuesday. The restaurant had at least 3 tables of a couple inside and 2 tables of 3 people on the patio... We were a table of 5... so if you do the math... 17 heads in total for 3 servers! It's nothing at all let me tell you! We waited 30mins to take orders, waited 30mins for drinks, waited another 45mins to get the food... So frustrated... Very nice waitress (younger-looking lady who was very wonderful), however the food is extremely greasy and pricey. Domestic beer = $6.70/pint (daaaang). The poutine ("made crispy") had three ingredients: tater tots (no joke), swimming in gravy (no joke), with chewy cheese curds sprinkled over the top. Mmm... However the outdoor heaters were delightful. If you don't mind paying through the nose, this place is for you. read more

Our food was amazing: the ribs were cooked so the meat fell cleanly of the bone and our desserts (chai cake (yes!!!) with white chocolate ice cream + chocolate cake) were all fingerlickingly good! Beware: Someone who seemed to know the staff posed as security and took $20 dollars from me as 'cover charge' for myself and my wife. I confirmed much later in the evening that he was not official, but all they said was "sorry man". Thief got away with it and I got chuckled at. The Drake is always at the top of my list hit hit when considering a great place for classic pub food, good beer on tap, and a great atmosphere to relax and mingle with friends. It does have great live music nights, so I highly recomend keeping an eye on whos coming through town to play at the Drake. My main attraction is the wing night, which is seasonal...but what a 'wing eatn' season it is!!!! EVEN MORE SO on the patio out back in the summer. For those joining my regular scheduled program from out of Calgary, Canmore is a 50 minute drive from Calgary into the Rocky Mountains. The Drake Pub (part of the Drake Inn), is Canmore's best nightly destination and realistically, one of my overall favourite pubs ever! I can't even tell you have many great nights I have had here. It's just one of those rare pubs that hits its notes in all the right places. I've spent a few New Years there (is always sold out) and many other weekend nights as Canmore is a home-away-from-home for me. Friday and Saturday nights always have live music. They only book bands that will have the clientele wanting to hit the dance floor (and usually 75% cover bands). Now, I'm admittedly not a 'big' live band person but I have had so many great nights dancing there with friends. The crowd is often diverse but generally attracts a 20-40 year old crowd, many of whom are locals, transplanted internationals working in Canmore, tourists and local Calgarians who came to party. Needless to say, summer is AMAZINGLY fun at the Drake. A typical night would include drinking (prices are reasonable & they make a great Caesar), playing some pool downstairs (they play all kinds of music down there -- last time I went it was lots of hip hop, old and new), chatting up someone not from Canada, chatting up someone from somewhere in Canada and just overall good times. This is a very flirty place (not meat market-y though) and it's not unsual to make friends that you'll take with you to get some pizza, poutine and making out down the street. Oh, did I just say that out loud? Food-wise, the Drake is a fabulous place for breakfast. The meat & egg skillet is a great pile of hashbrowns, scrambled eggs and a few meats and cheese piled up in a lil cast iron skillet. Perfect on the patio on a sunny day in the mountains. Otherwise, it's good pub food for lunch or dinner. Really good times if you dig the pub scene. Warning: it does get packed on Saturday nights regardless of season so expect to navigate yourself silly. Otherwise, grab your friends and go hang out for the evening or crash at the Drake Inn and have breakfast at noon. :) read more

My first experience walking in to a bar here and while I'm having a beverage at the bar, the bartender tells me I can't stand at the bar. Doesn't proceed to tell me why and is making me feel uncomfortable. I'm half way through my beverage and I feel like I'm being harassed. Only after telling me to leave and making a scene does he tell me why I can't stand at the bar. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped in at the Drake for a bite to eat last night and after 15 minutes of sitting at a table right next to the server station (where we saw 3-4 different servers ringing in orders literally an arms reach away from us) without even being acknowledged, we left. Granted it was super busy, they had security running out foof to tables but as a former server, it takes 5 seconds to say 'hi guys, I'll be with you shortly.' Service was fine although not as good as the friendly Canadian hospitality we have been enjoying elsewhere in Canmore. The food however was downright awful. I had the Elk Burger which was cooked to a leathery constancy that made it nearly inedible. My husbands steak was also dry, dry, dry! My son had he fish and chips which he described as soggy. Went for wings and beer with me friends and gotta say, ain't nothin' special about this place (or its wings). I did enjoy the fact that their were at least 15 dudes in their, that could easily pass as 2011 Sean White's older-less successful brother. We stopped here for lunch & were very disappointed as we had heard this place was good. The choices were very limited & what we ordered was mediocre at best. They were out of soup & were making more. They wouldn't even substitute another as a side. Very pricing for a substandard meal and crappy service. Will not eat here again. read more

We dropped in Friday afternoon for a late lunch. We had our pick of tables inside and out. The service was prompt and efficient and the food and beer were good. Most people were happy with their food. The pulled pork was excellent! The salads people ordered weren't anything to write home about, but there was a good variety of beers. we drank in the bar & stayed in the hotel. both were just ok. there was no heat in our room (it's bloody cold out!) but when we called to the front desk it was too late (midnight) and they'd left for the night. so that was a bit sad. we ordered a pizza to warm us up. which didnt work. should have just gone back down to the pub for more drinks. oh well! read more

Horrible place. Ripped off by someone that the staff all knew. He charged us $20.00 cover charge when there was no cover charge at all. Told one of the staff once we figured out that we had been taken but he didn't really care. Just said, sorry man. Atmosphere was terrible too. Don't waste your time going here. read more
