Went to this place off a recommendation from a local which I love to do. They didn't have anything in stock. Didn't go for the food but probably a good thing because they wouldn't have had it. If I am traveling or just hanging around home, my tastes in bars tend to revolve around a few key descriptors: dive, drinks, local, and games. While on a trip to Banff, we asked our server at dinner where we could find a local dive to have some post-meal drinks. We were recommended to Tommy's and it was exactly the vibe I was looking for. I don't need hip lounge decor or loud DJ sets. I just want a good drink, a place where the locals go. When I walked in we didn't see skiers fresh off the slopes, we saw locals enjoying a drink after their shift and grizzled bartenders slinging out beverages. The dart boards and jukebox in the back completed the package. My friends and I enjoyed the rest of our night throwing darts, local people watching, and queuing up songs. The only reason I am not rating this place higher is the drink selection. As a bourbon/whiskey man there wasn't much in brown water and what they did have ended up in Manhattans and Old Fashions that were anything but. The drinks didn't feel strong and were served in really odd glasses that could be described as mini-goblets. Regardless next time I am up in the Canadian Rockies I will make Tommy's a bar stop on my list. read more

If two times makes it a tradition, then my family now has a new one. Stroll along Banff Avenue, shopping, buying fudge, eating Cow's ice cream, etc. until late afternoon comes along. Then its off to Tommy's for the Pub Platter. You'll find it under the Lighter Fare section, which doesn't really make sense since the Platter is basically deep fried bar food on a bed of onion rings and fries. The deep fried pickles are my favourite. A couple of beers and a few pickles and I'm ready for another round of shopping, or a nap! Although it doesn't look like it would, Tommy's allows children, at least during the day. The service is pretty good, the beer is cold and the atmosphere seems pretty friendly. Other menu items look pretty good but I really come for the deep fried pickles. I'm tempted to give it a four but I haven't really tried enough of the menu to do that, yet! read more

This is a great spot for cheap food, cheap booze, and an all around great atmosphere. We came here late one night for dinner as we had been busy all day and were unsure of where to go. We bellied right up to the bar and ordered a beer. The bartender was very friendly and was also there if we needed anything. For dinner, we split a steak sandwich with "fringe" (half fries, half onion rings) and the pirogies. The steak sandwich was delicious, and served with a piece of garlic bread, was the perfect compliment. The real star was the pierogis. They were boiled and then flash fried which made them soft and hot on the inside, and crunchy on the out. This was the perfect bar meal to end a long day. They have dart boards and games to play, and we even came back a couple nights later just for a pint. Highly recommend stopping in, you'll love it! read more

We went both nights while in Banff just for drinks Friday night was good we sat at the bar it was early and people were eating food looked like good bar food. After a while we played the duke box we asked for it to be turned up since the music was paid for but to no avail but still we had fun. Great atmosphere.. we played darts it has a board in the back that was fun. Saturday night again great atmosphere busy but nice busy we got a table our server was good and quick we had fun that night to over all good place for a few beers next time I might have food there and see what it's like. A hidden hole in the wall basement pub - that everyone should pop into! Tommy's becomes one of my regular "go-to" places when I am bringing visitors to Banff and we need a quick non-pretentious place to go for lunch. Where else can you go and get a generous size portion of food for a totally reasonable cost. The Elk Burger and Bison Burgers always seem to wow and impress those who want to taste something more exciting than a normal classic burger! Also, their homemade soups are awesome - it tastes like "mama made it"! Hearty soup in large portion. Their servers are a bit more "raw" and straight shooters - they aren't going to sugar coat things - if something isn't really good on the menu - they will just tell you as it is! When we asked about Gluten free options - they unapologetically inform you that they aren't really gluten friendly. But overall - an amazing little pub that I will keep going back to - time after time again! read more

My wife and I were visiting Banff for our first anniversary and stopped in for a night cap (at 9 pm). Our bartender was Hoops who, and this is no exaggeration, in my book is the best bartender who's ever waited on us. We're currently discussing naming our first child "Hooper." The food was fantastic and affordable, drinks cheap and ice cold. And the atmosphere the perfect mixture of dive and pub. The last thing to mention is their interesting take on a Santa Fe burger. Being current residents of Santa Fe, we found the mozzarella to be a nice touch. If and when we go back, we'll be at Tommy's and telling Hoops about our newborn kid endearingly named after him. read more

Gave 1 star because of the waitress was doing good. We ordered steak sandwich. It was burnt and steak is over cooked (we ordered medium). The waitress asked how was the food, we told her frankly that steak is over cooked, she told us to change it. The new one is a little better, eatable. We also ordered dry pork rib. AVOID it at all cost. The pork is marinated too sweet and it is oily with grilled and deep fried and it was again very burnt. It is not dry and taste very bad. My personal opinion is that since this is a pub, selling beer. The customer might not know or care the taste of the food much. We checked in for a pint and a bite to eat after a day of snowboarding. Most other spots in town had a wait list (to be expected on a Saturday night) so we were happy to walk right in and seat ourselves here. Our server was awesome- no complaints there at all. We ordered the garlic cheese bread to start, which was good but a bit on the small side. My partner had the shepherds pie, which he really enjoyed, and I had the cordon bleu panini, which I wouldn't recommend. The chicken was very dry and a bit on the cold side. I would recommend getting sweet potato fries and chipotle mayo with your meal! So delicious. We ended up leaving after our meal since we couldn't see the hockey game from our table and they also weren't playing the UFC fights, so we went somewhere else to watch. We picked this place due to its prices ! I was really happy with the service and how everything from pickiness to cleanse was great. I liked my Gordon blue and I'm sure the hubs liked his alberta beef dip. ( there was nothing left). On my visit during lunch the older bartender was complaining to what appeared to be off duty staff that people don't pay in cash. Thier prices are what i consider the best in town, the prices there a comperable to most placws in any other cities. We had 2 6oz. Steak sandwhiches that came with a huge helping of onion rings, we also had 4 cocktales and 2 beers and 1 coffee. The total came up to only $62. At 10 Pm they had an open mike with a local musician who brouhht extra guitars, bass guitar and mikes ... First time in Banff and I decided to hit this place up for a late nite bite and a beer. This place is a-ok. It sits right on Banff Ave so it's on the main drag for plenty of people watching. They have a decent selection of taps, nothing really special. A lot of the standards like Rickards and Keiths. Also the food is decent. Again nothing special. They had a pretty good soup that day. Just about every time I'm in Banff, I end up at Tommy's for lunch or supper. It's a cool tiny bar tucked away in a basement off the main strip sidewalk. I've always had a good time here. AVOID!!!! Ok I get it... Banff is a touristy place and you can overcharge a little bit but if you're going to do that at least make the service and food decent! The first server we had pretty much threw the menus at us without even a hint of a smile. We then got another server who took our order for food, beers and water very casually. The first guy bought us our "Tommy's Spuds" which we were expecting to be a big bowl of potato wedges from the description which turned out to be 6 potato wedges covered in cheese with an awful 80's garnish of one of cucumber and one slice of tomato and a leaf of lettuce holding the sour cream. I still don't understand how one large potatoe cost the kitchen $9.95??!!!! We had to go and ask for cutlery and we never got any water. This place could be kinda divey and charming but they let themselves down, so sad! read more

I could see the TV from my table, they have dart boards in the back, and the service was really good.
