Perfect spot for a quick lunch/snack or if you're just looking for a quick drink to take back to the beach. I've had many Lava flows and pina coladas this summer and the past and my favorite drink has to be the Java flow. Tastes like a pina colada with espresso, but it works. I've also had lunch here where I've gotten the grilled ahi tuna wrap. I really enjoyed this but I wish the ahi tuna could be raw rather than grilled. Easy parking for cyclists with many bike racks out front. Nice bar by the beach and excellent table seating with market umbrellas right in the dunes. Waitt staff was friendly and efficient and the fish tacos are to die for. Looking forward to the next time we dine at the Dune's House. read more

The Dunes House is conveniently located right at the beach entrance so grabbing something quick to eat or a drink is easy. We went after cleaning up from the beach for dinner. They offer music each afternoon which is awesome and our food was good. I only gave four stars because they only offer take out food carriers, paper products and plastic ware, which makes some things difficult to eat. Overall, their simple menu covers all the cravings and I would recommend this outdoor restaurant. read more

The Dunes House, Hilton Head Island, SC Date of Visit: April 27th, 2024 A semi private restaurant on the beach in Hilton Head Island, sound great, so what could go wrong, well sadly the food ATMOSPHERE/DECO Located in Palmetto Dunes resort on Hilton Head Island, the restaurant is on the beach with great ocean views. I believe there have a few tables inside, but most of the restaurant, including the bar and "kitchen" SERVICE I placed an to go order at the bar since we were taking it to eat on the beach. Bartender was fast and efficient taking the order. PRICE Prices were reasonable for the most part, the kid menu was a little of the high side especially for the quality of the food FOOD This is where things went wrong, I really had high hope for that place, but the food was just bad, no need to sugar coated, it was just bad. Let's start with my kid two mini cheeseburgers, they were just horrible, tasted super strange, very very dry, I honestly thought the meat was bad for a minute so needless to say after a couple bites we threw them away. I had the Blackened Mahi sandwich, and still not sure where the blackened seasoning, that sandwich has zero taste, even trying to use some of the sauce, which I believe was a chipotle aioli it was so bland if you blindfolded me I couldn't tell you if it was fish, beef or chicken And not the fish tacos, advertised as some of the best on the island, well not sure who was voting on that but it was definitely rigged. Very average, probably the 15ht or 20th best fish tacos I ever had, really nothing to write home about, but still the best food of the three dishes we had MISCELLEANOUS Did not check the bathroom out and parking can definitely be a problem, since it is the same parking used for one of the few public beach access in palmetto dunes, so walking from your condo might be the safest options. Please note that you must be staying in a palmetto dune condo or resort to have access to the Dunes house. Also please note that the "kitchen" is just a griddle and they do not have any deep fryers so no fries on the menu. In Conclusion, the location is great, the view of the ocean super cool, but the food, oh boy the food, it's just not good! There are not many choices aside from hotel restaurants on this area of HHI, but the Dunes is a solid choice for lunch, drinks or just to get out of the sun / off the beach! Their go-to is a fish sandwich, which is big enough for two people really. Their alcoholic drink menu is a lot of rum drinks - perfect to cool down with when it is hot. We love coming to The Dune House while on the island. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the wait is generally quick. The food always comes out hot and flavorful; this visit was no exception. My husband ordered fish tacos loaded with fresh, delicious fish. I went with the chicken sandwich in a grilled wrap instead of my usual order of fish tacos, and WOW! There was plenty of chicken, cheese, and bacon with a mild chipotle sauce. I want to say first that I love the Dunes house. It has a special history, as my husband and I got married here on the beach in front and rented the space for a catered reception 3 years ago and had a wonderful event .we have been here together and with family many many times! But I am disappointed with the cost of beverages and how expensive and small they are for a plastic cup beach cocktail....and what topped it was today I sat with my husband and daughter and ordered the fish tacos, my favorite but only wanted one so I said I would share, and we were charged an extra 2 bucks. We didn't need the extra paper bowl! I don't care that it said split plate charge 2 dollars in small writing at the bottom of the menu. It's nickeling a diming when families are already spending a premium and it's good but let's face it...it's a taco stand on a deck at the beach. We want it to stay a taco stand on a deck at the beach with affordable, not nickel and dime, prices!! I strongly suggest that you stay humble and affordable, for the families that come year after year to celebrate milestones and not add a split plate charge for a paper bowl! Had it been a higher end place, I would get it and happily pay. I will come back because the memories I have far out way this bitter taste I got from today.
