We stopped by Beach Break Grill in Hilton Head for a quick happy hour drink and had such a great time! The grill was closed (it was a Monday), so we didn't get to try the food, but the drinks alone were worth the visit. The bartender was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and clearly knows how to mix a great drink--everything she made was delicious. The bar itself is small and cozy, with a relaxed local vibe that made us feel right at home. Perfectly unpretentious! I stopped by for lunch on a weekday and was able to be seated right away. This place had really good reviews and I was excited to try. They had a pork tenderloin sandwich that sounded really good, so I decided on it. I lived in Indiana a few years and I was expecting one of those pounded-thin fried tenderloins, but instead it was grilled. Probably better for my waistline anyway, and still very tasty! It's a bar-like atmosphere inside, and looks like it'd be a really fun place to go in the evening, especially with a few other fun places in the same area. We are visiting Hilton Head for Memorial Day weekend and placed a to-go order - we really wanted some blackened fish! They were able to make us two orders of blackened fish, one with fries and one with Mac n cheese and seriously I was floored at how good it was. The sauce is out of this world and they didn't skimp on the shrimp either. Could not recommend it enough! The local crowd at the bar seemed really cool, definitely a spot I would come hang out. The bartender who took our order was super sweet as well so I'd give them 5 stars on service on top of all that. AND they had our order ready in 15 mins from call to pickup. We wanted a "hole in the wall" type place that had good reviews. We were glad we chose BBG. We went in the afternoon for lunch. There was no wait. We chose a table and began to take in all the uniqueness of the surroundings. Our server arrived quickly to give us menus and take our drink orders. He allowed the perfect amount of time to come back with our drinks and take our orders. Two chose burgers with Mac N Cheese a two chose shrimp and fries. Those who chose shrimp thought they were good and a good portion of shrimp and fries for the price. The two who chose the burger and Mac n cheese thought the m & c was average but both say the burger is the best they have ever had. Again, the portions were very much appropriate for the price. Our server was attentive and very much professional the entire time. Our only criticism was with the wait time between ordering and actually getting our food. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't a major concern. The burger experience made the wait worth the time. We don't usually go out for lunch, but we will definitely keep this on our list of favorite places. read more

As far as dive bars go, I could see this place being pretty fun. When we first arrived, the jukebox was blasting and I loved all the music selections and the bartender turning up the volume anytime a really good song would come on. However, someone has to continuously play the jukebox, otherwise the bar falls pretty silent. I would have taken over as DJ, but alas, the card reader on the machine did not work. So bring cash, rule 1 of any dive bar. The food menu is extensive, but they were unfortunately out of pretty much everything. We ate chicken tenders, just to have something to offset the strong drinks. The tenders were fine, large and crispy. The other patrons were friendly, maybe on the side of a bit too curious with who we were and what brought us in. They were all pretty convinced that we'd run for the hills the second we walked in. He's a picky eater and I'm kind of a food snob so, I reluctantly trusted the google reviews and came to check this place out. We ordered the fried shrimp platter with two sides: collards and French fries. I had to call the host and let him know that these were the first collards that go toe to toe to mine (mine are the best... or so they say). The fries were okay. The shrimp was tasty. This place is a hidden gem! It looks like a dive bar, but don't let the atmosphere steer you away from eating here! The staff is so friendly and really makes sure you have a great meal. The food here is fantastic and it is all homemade. I have eaten here twice now and it has been wonderful each time. I highly recommend their grouper sandwich, especially when it's fried or blackened! They also have daily specials and when we visited on Tuesday the special was beef tacos. The tacos were delicious, authentic, and fresh! Everything we ordered was insanely good, from chicken tenders made from locally raised chicken, home-made potato chips, blackened grouper and hearty burgers. Best of all was the local crowd. Warm and friendly hardworking folks meeting-up after work to just chill-out. They were all so welcoming to my family who was clearly not from the area. Kelly the bartender/waitress was so friendly and helpful, an ideal hostess. A great finish was their homemade pineapple coconut cake with a tres-Leche moist consistency -crazy delicious. They were amazing, hospitable and probably one of the best meals We have had in our 10 plus years coming to the island. Beach Break Grille is a no-frills sports bar that serves up some pretty tasty food at a good price point (most items are under $10). While you shouldn't expect to find anything healthy on the menu, what is offered is pretty satisfying. My husband and I both had the blackened grouper sandwich...neither of us would say our fish was "blackened" but it had good flavor (just wish there was more than one sad tomato on the sandwich!). The onion rings hit the spot for an extra $2 upgrade from the included fries. Our kids had the chicken fingers...you can tell these are freshly fried on site and not resurrected from a freezer bag. More intimate seating (tables for 4 - larger groups might be harder to accommodate) and classic rock tunes round out the experience. read more

Absolutely horrible experience. The food took an hour to come out. In the meantime we see another table get served right away. The blackened mahi-mahi sandwich had no flavor and was a really small piece of fish on the bun. Even the tartar sauce had no flavor. On the other hand the mahi fingers were much better but salty. Limited beer selection. Then the check - everything on the bill was $1-3 more than listed on the menu. The answer was that they just raised their prices, but hadn't changed the menu. But nobody told us when we were ordering that there was a price discrepancy. Just shady. We went there because the reviews were so good. All of our food was excellent - starting with the Mozzarella Sticks and the Soft Pretzel Nuggets appetizers. My wife had the Grouper sandwich and asked for it to be only lightly fried and it came out perfect. My stepson had Wings - we consider him a "wing aficionado" - and he was pleased with how they turned out. My stepdaughter had a Steak Quesadilla which was good, and I thoroughly enjoyed my Grouper Sandwich blackened-style. The fries were well-seasoned. All in all, the cook did a great job! read more

I was visiting the area on vacation along with my husband and 3 boys. We stopped in for lunch after looking for places on Yelp. Don't let the outside fool you. I LOVED this dive bar. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. My drink was strong and the food was amazing. I had the Philly cheesesteak which was one of the best I've ever had. My oldest had the mild wings, and they were thick wings with a good sauce. My husband had the BLT and he loved it. Why this may not be considered a kid friendly place, they do have grilled cheese, fries, and other kid favorites. I'd recommend for lunch with kids but probably not evening or late night. If you're traveling without kids, definitely stop in! Their drink prices compared to the resorts can't be beat. When we return to Hilton Head, we will definitely stop in again. read more
