Definitely check this place out! It has excellent service, a fun atmosphere, and the food was excellent and worth the price! Our waitress Alana was attentive and patient. She made good recommendations and proved quick service with a friendly smile. The jerk Chicken tacos were delicious! They were medium level spice with good flavor. The candied pineapple on top provided a nice balance to the heat. The chips were homemade and perfectly cooked. The salsa was great as well. The Tuscan seafood pasta was to die for! There was a lot of generous sized pieces of shrimp and scallops mixed in a delicious creamy sauce (though it was very heavy on cracked pepper, which have it a little kick). So disappointed and embarrassed I recommended our family go here for lunch. They sat our group outside and we had to beg for a fan because we had 2 infants. The first person we asked said we couldn't, and later our server was able to procure one (there were 2 at the host desk and one was blowing literally nowhere, and 2 that were unused at the other end of the patio). I would advise them to get oscillating fans for these hot summers. It was super slow service for having kiddos, they were not offered drinks with their kids meals and we had to ask twice (it's supposed to come with meal). When we asked for the tab it took a while. They did not ask us before they started taking things away from the table and they took my daughter drink and my meal before I was finished. It left her crying (after being overheated and fried stale food) and me pretty frustrated. There was also a cockroach on the floor inside for like 15 minutes which gave me the ick. The shrimp tacos and pineapple salsa were tasty other than the shells were super stale and chewy. The popcorn shrimp were mostly fried breading. So many fried options. I wish there were more grilled options because our kids loved the shrimp that was inside the tacos but that wasn't an option. We never got our waters refilled and everyone left just exhausted and overheated. Overall just not a great experience. read more

The pieces of blue crab were sizeable-- which was surprising considering blue crab meat is limited since they are so small. The she crab soup was delightful. The night before I tried the she crab soup at Poseidon which was completely different. This one was a cream base which reminded me of New England Clam Chowder. This really hit the spot satiating a seafood craving. The service and server were super friendly and talkative. Our waiter was working real hard in the 90 degree weather in the outdoor seating. Don't let the fact that The Sandbar is not on the water keep you away, because they have figured out a way to make you feel all the beach vibes without a drop of sand. We came here in June on a busy Thursday evening with our two teens. We had to wait 40 minutes, but it was no big deal given that there are shops in the parking lot to wander while you wait. After a little bit we split from the kids. While they were shopping me and hubby grabbed a drink at the bar. They had a band that was really good which helped contribute to the coastal atmosphere. The pretzel with beer cheese was a total hit amongst all of us! I didn't try the quesadilla but my kids said it might be the best they've ever had. That's high praise from those two flour, water and cheese connoisseurs. My kids had burgers (they had seafood the night before and wanted a break). They said they were good. I didn't try it but they were thick patties, cheese was mostly melted and the tomato was thick. Hubby had the Tacos de Pescado and they were delicious! I had a bite and I loved them. They had the perfect crisp. The flavors and the texture of the fish was excellent. I had Grilled Scallop Tacos and they were yummy. The flour tortillas were fried to perfection however, the scallops were a bit over cooked. And I really was not a fan of having the rice in the taco. At a certain point I dumped the taco out and ate it with a fork, but it was delicious. Aside from the scallops, every other individual part was cooked really well. We came here for it's proximity to Sonesta Resort but I'd make a little trip for this place any day. It was an enjoyable time. read more

Friday after New Year's Day is the busiest I have seen this place. Live music was in the courtyard but due to the crowd noise I couldn't hear him. We had encountered lots of traffic and were very hungry when we arrived, so hubby and I both ordered and enjoyed the she crab soup. Hubby then had the grouper sandwich with fries, and I ordered the seafood salad, which the waitress recommended. The atmosphere didn't leave much of an impression, and the dim lighting made it feel a little too dark for my liking. It was even hard to find the spot initially. I ordered the fried grouper sandwich, which was fine--not bad, but nothing to write home about. The server was okay but not particularly attentive, which might have been due to how quiet it was. Overall, it's not a place I'd go out of my way to visit again. Maybe it's better earlier in the day when there's more energy, but as it stands, I'd give it 3 stars. We liked that you can forgo the fries for things like plantains, rice, grilled Veggies. The single piece of battered fish was huge. Overall these are good size portions. The hush puppies are delicious and creative with sautéed onion, beef cheese and sour cream over them. Good flavors. After hours of traveling, we stopped by a beach bar and restaurant just a few minutes from our hotel before checking in. I was craving a cold beer and ordered the nachos, which mentioned corn, guacamole, and sour cream. But when the plate arrived, it was practically drowning in corn, giving it an overwhelming flavor that just didn't hit the mark. I've unofficially named them 'The Corny Nachos.' The place itself had a typical beach restaurant vibe, but nothing about it particularly stood out. I must've looked a bit worn from travel, but the ambiance didn't offer much of a lift either. I'm not really sure why this has such high marks, because our experience was very underwhelming. Service wise, everyone is efficient and friendly. We were quoted a 45 minute wait but it ended up being less than 25, probably because we were one of the few parties of 2. Our server came to us quickly and got our drink orders in almost immediately. She was quite nice and attentive even with the crowd. The girls at the hostess stand were also very friendly and efficient. High marks for service. We came during happy hour, so as you can imagine the place was packed. Our table for two was against a pole less than a foot from the main walkway and the hostess stand which wasn't very comfortable, but we made it work. We came because we wanted to hear the live music but they didn't start playing on time so we never got to hear the band, sadly. That was one of our main reasons for choosing this spot. We ordered one frozen and one on the rocks margarita ($5 happy hour). The rocks margarita was nothing special and tasted pretty much like a $5 margarita would. The frozen one however was not good. There was absolutely no flavor - kind of like when a soda machine runs out of syrup. We decided we'd drink our cocktails, order broiled oysters and eat dinner somewhere else. The oysters were very small and hastily done - we weren't very impressed. They tasted gritty and ashy and had a lot of watery liquid in them. No real seasoning. The garlic bread on the side was also over toasted by a lot. If you have kids or you are looking for standard happy hour apps and cheap drinks, this is probably a great spot for you. There is a little mini mall shopping area to keep your group entertained while you wait which is also helpful if you have kids. If you are looking for great cocktails and food that's a bit higher quality/more creative, then I'd look elsewhere or maybe come post happy hour because I'm hoping maybe things would be a little better at that time? We had high hopes, but personally this was just a miss for us, unfortunately. read more

No where near the front patio area were the music played. This may have been why our server left us hanging a few times. The best of our entrees was the steak nachos. Huge portions and nicely cooked meat! Delicious but they place the cheese at the bottom, it sticking to the paper rather than the chips.
