This place was fantastic. I love the atmosphere of the cool little neighborhood breakfast spot. Right on the corner, like the proletariat bars of old. The four of us found the Dutch on Yelp, and headed there from our hotel in Philly. It reminded my wife and I of some of the neighborhood spots. We enjoyed so much in our own town of Baltimore. The waitress, JENN, was fantastic. I think she had every table, but every employee were doing their part. The chef must handpick the ingredients, because everything was fresh and delicious. My wife and I each had a special pressed fruit drink to start, and it was a perfect appetizer if you will. Very refreshing and energizing. The food was amazing. I had the mushroom omelette. The mushrooms were very fresh and not overcooked. The omelette was thick, but not foamy. All of the ingredients were handled with care on the inside. The taste of truffles was a nice addition. My wife had the salmon omelette, and it was out of this world. Possibly the best omelette I've ever tasted. She agreed. Delicate, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. One of our boys had a huge waffle covered in fresh berries, and just the right amount of whipped cream. He said it was the best waffle he ever had, and I have to agree. Light and fluffy and sweet, he didn't even add syrup. Perfect. Our other son had the double cheeseburger. Again, cooked perfectly, and the avocado was very fresh and an excellent addition. Finally tried this place and had a pretty good time! Waitress was attentive and kept a light hearted tone despite clearly being super busy. Food was fine and the speed of the service was similar. I wish the potatoes were less salty and had more flavor and I prefer my omelettes to be cooked with the vegetables imbedded in the eggs without the vegetables sitting inside the egg like a taco. (This version did somewhere between the two). However, I would return to get more breakfast basics. I have had Dutch pancakes that pack more flavor but no ones complaining! My friends had never had them before so I was a bit disappointed because I really hyped them up to be a great standalone pancake however they had a great time once they put syrup on theirs! Food - absolutely delicious. I dream about that pancake and I'm normally someone who likes a thinner/crispy cake and this fluffy bad boy blew my mind. I was even willing to eat it without syrup because it was so good The Reuben literally melted in my mouth and truly satisfied my yearly craving for a corn beef sandwich. The tables are rather small so fitting everything was a little difficult for two greedy gals but we made it work! They have a bar that's open for the entire time they are so I'm VERY much looking for to during a proper brunch with my girls. This place was the beginning and end to our vacation. The food was amazing. Group of 5 and then 9 so we tried many different menu items. I got the bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese and tomato. I try to come here as often as I can on the weekends because they have the BEST chicken and waffles that I've had in Philly so far. The only issue is they only serve it as a special on the weekends. They change how they do it every weekend it seems but the end result is a plate full of deliciousness and greatness lol. The first time I came it was basically a Thanksgiving themed chicken and waffles and I died from the joy lol. The service is great just be mindful of the space. They had a special on Challah French Toast that day, so we opted for that instead of a Dutch Baby (but will definitely go back for one in the future) and it was delicious. I finally made my way to The Dutch this week after creating a book mark for this place way back when. I can thank Fox 29's feature, which mentioned the special "Soul Food" dinner for the reminder that I needed to make a dinner reservation ASAP. Unfortunately, I was a little too late for the soul food dinner as the early reservations were sold out. I opted for a Friday evening reservation instead. I was greeted by a friendly young woman upon arriving who advised I could choose my seat. I decided to sit near the window at one of the tall tables. The dining room is a quaint, warm and welcoming. The hostess provided menus with "Happy Hour Specials" and I was OVERJOYED to hear there were two items still available from the soul food dinner. Thus, I decided to try the short rib mac n cheese for my appetizer(still available from the soul food dinner) , the steak frites for my entree and the banana pudding (still available from the soul food dinner) for dessert. I also had the blood orange mojito for my drink. I'm going to skip straight to the food bc that's probably why you are reading this review. Haha. The short rib mac n cheese was incredible!!! The short rib was seasoned and flavorful. It paired perfectly with the mac n cheese. I could taste the smokiness of the short rib in the mac n cheese and I loved it! Next up, the steak frites. Now, this steak rivaled some of the steaks I have enjoyed at the high end steak houses all over. It was a simple skirt steak, but it also was seasoned to perfection. I didn't need to add or subtract a single thing from it. The frites were fresh, hot and nicely done. Now, for dessert. The banana pudding parfait was light and delightful. It was topped off with some sort of butter cookie that I couldn't get enough of. The cream/pudding was fresh, airy and perfect. It wasn't too sweet and I didn't feel overwhelming full after finishing it. Gave this spot a try after walking past it a few times. Overall, I was underwhelmed. The fries were soggy and not seasoned. My fried chicken was good but the sandwich was meh. My partner did not like their food much either. It was a cold day and with people coming to add themself to the waitlist, the door was constantly open allowing a frigid draft. Dutch Babies! I've been hankering for a savory version. Can't get them back home, only the sweet ones. These were perfect, airy, light, decadent, and delicious! I've heard so many good things about the Dutch. I wanted to try for myself. The actual restaurant is beautiful. There's a place for outside seating and many tables inside. I would recommend going with a Group between two and six. It's a little tight inside. It might be hard to fit a bigger group. The menu was a pretty standard breakfast menu from sweet and savory options. The bacon was great, but the potatoes fell short to me they were not crispy at all. I was a little bit disappointed in our service while at the Dutch I felt very rushed and wasn't offered explanations for the menu from the server when asked. read more

It's never taken less than 40 min to get a meal here, which feels like eternity when you have hungry kids. The staff seems stressed and overwhelmed even when the space isn't packed. Expensive Brunch in the Heart of East Passyunk I've been eyeing this spot now for a while because I've heard of their dutch babies and I live pretty close by. We went during a heat advisory and hoped to block out the sun in the comfort of the indoor seating. The dutch babies ended up not really seeming too appealing to me, so we ended up ordering some other brunch foods. Vibes - 3/5 I thought the vibes of the restaurant were okay. We were seated in a small high table near the door. The restaurant seemed very small on the inside, with the bar taking up most of the room when entering. They have some outdoor seating arrangements outside, which looked decent enough. The decor was very simple, and the colors were plain. There wasn't any music playing, just the chatter of everyone in the small restaurant. Eggs Benedict on a Buttermilk Biscuit - 2/5 The pickled string beans were pretty good in the dish, and it's something unique that I've never had in a eggs benedict dish before. However the dish lost major points for the hollandaise, which tasted like straight up butter (which confuses be because hollandaise isn't supposed to have butter in it?). The biscuit was okay, but the potatoes could have used a lot more seasoning. Savory Scallion Waffle - 4/5 This dish I thought was very interesting and was really looking forward to trying it out. The corned beef gravy tasted very good and paired well with the waffle. The waffle was your standard waffle, nothing to write home about, and was on the softer side. The dish would be good to split 4 ways though in my opinion, because I thought eating just half was very heavy. Overall, I don't think I'd be coming back here for brunch ever again. Philly has a plethora of brunch spots for a fraction of the price I spent here. Personally, for the quality of food you're getting here, I think the food's overpriced. However, I will be looking to attend their dinner tasting menu in the near future, so I'm hoping that experience will be much better. read more

I read up about their menu and noticed they have these very unique waffle/pancakes filled with different food options. I went with a sweet and savory waffle served with sausage and maple syrup. I also got a side of scrapple! You gotta be from Philly to appreciate good scrapple!! The coffee was piping hot and we got refills. We also ordered the French Toast with fruit, berries and whipped cream. The staff were all welcoming. The Dutch was luckily open for weekday brunch after my plan A fell through, and I'm so glad they were! My friend and I visited at around 10:30AM on a Wednesday, and we were pleased to find easy parking and zero wait for a table. The restaurant is in a cute stretch on Passyunk, located right on the corner so it's easy to find. The vibe is very much so Dutch - lots of wood with ornate detailing and bright colors with flowers. Really unique and charming! We were seated by a window, which let in some lovely natural light and allowed for people watching. The menu was fairly large for a weekday brunch menu, which made the decision a touch difficult. My friend and I both ultimately decided that at a place name "The Dutch," one needs to indulge in the Dutch Baby, so we each got the sweet version with fresh fruit added. Once the arrived, we were amazed by the presentation - the fruit truly made it shine. The dish was quite large (I only ate half, although probably could have done more if I tried!), but the pancake was fairly light and airy as I would expect. At $16, it was a reasonable price for the quality and quantity and for the experience. My friend and I took our time dining, and our server kindly gave us space and didn't rush us at all (but also made sure we were appropriately cared for). As mentioned, the menu had a lot of good options, so I would definitely be interested to re-visit and try the savory Dutch baby, an omelete (Bologna or mushroom), the Uitsmijter (dippy eggs with gouda), or a more savory lunch option. I also didn't get any beverage during this visit, so I would love to try a cocktail or other drink next time. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, and again we chose indoor. The server greeted us immediately and let us pick our own section. We ordered two coffees. After looking at the specials which are posted on the wall on butcher's paper, and the menu, we both decided on the two different types of the Dutch Baby, which is like a pancake with various fillings/toppings. Mine cane with fruit, and for an additional cost, extra fruit plus a side of bacon. Hubby had his with meat and egg inside. Coffee was okay. The ambiance was quaint, and there is artwork displayed on the walls that are available for sale. There is one single restroom. Overall, the food packed flavor and reasonably priced. read more

I used to love this place. In 2023 it was fantastic, great vibe fun atmosphere, and great food. Unfortunately that's not where we're at right now. We had a bad experience the last two times that we were there and gave it more than six months to see if they fixed themselves. It's actually gotten worse. And this is probably the last time I'll be there I got the chorizo hash, which I used to get all the time. And today I couldn't even finish 50% of it. It just wasn't good and the flavor was off.
