The only good thing I can say is that the bed was comfortable. Wait forever for the shuttle only to find they don't have our reservations and completely booked. Already had booked a night for overnight stay on the trip back. Staff was rude. Coffee was horrible. Parking is small and you will need a permit from the front desk to put on your dash board or else they will tow your car. Free breakfast! They had a waffle maker, cereal, toast, fruit, and a couple of hot dishes (eggs and seasoned potatoes). Pretty basic to start the day. Room was pretty quiet considering that it was so close to SFO and Caltrain. Very good place to just crash for the weekend! read more

The pictures on the web is very deceiving, go with low expectations and you will be ok. We had a metro train by our room so the noise level was bad, bed uneven, breakfast area fit 10 people only, elevator did not work and shower door broken. This was a deluxe room! Would hate to see what a regular room looks like. We also got charge a wrong amount from what Hotel. Com quoted. In all, we were very disappointed and will never use that web site or this hotel again. read more

Chardae is the best. I called because I needed a place for me and my colleague to sleep the night before our early flight on Wednesday and she was very personable and accommodating. We bonded on the phone and I was so excited to come meet her. She was definitely just as funny and friendly in person. I *really* liked this hotel. It's filled with plants and books and well-designed aesthetic spaces which gives it comfortable feeling of a hostel, but with a nicer/classier vibe. Breakfast included rice and furikake (the Japanese rice seasoning) and Nutella! Pretty great. Also the robes in the rooms were lovely. It's the last stop before the airport on the hotel shuttle so we got there fast. If I have another early morning flight I'll be back! read more

i wish i could give negative stars! i call personally to tell them i wont be checking in on my reservation as my wife's recovery from surgery (at hospital across the street - mills penisula) is going as well as expected and that i want to be by her side. i fully expected to pay a penalty but didn't expect the penalty to be the full amount! the "manager" was absolutely unsympathetic with my situation and simply say we have a "24 hour" cancellation policy! so, for anyone who's planning surgery or even visiting someone at the mills pennisula medical center, DON'T use this hotel as they are completely unsympathetic or inflexible to any situation that may arise! read more

Not only was the room and bathroom super spacious and clean, but the staff was so friendly in helping my find my way around San Fran. I was impressed with this hotel near the airport. It offers a free shuttle service to and from the airport, an excellent free breakfast (serve yourself), it is reasonably priced and was clean and quiet. I needed a place to stay between flights at SFO. Around 9:00pm I called for the hotel shuttle to pick me up, and it arrived about 20 minutes later. It took about 5 minutes to get to the hotel. The shuttle service is a bit odd; it runs constantly but you are also supposed to call to let them know you are waiting. I think they're not supposed to pick you up unless you call, but I couldn't quite figure it out. The front desk was absolutely swamped when I got there, but I don't know if that is always true or just bad timing. It looked like a whole sports team was checking in or out. There was only one person working, so it took a long time to get checked in. The person there was helpful, though, letting me borrow a roll of packing tape for a package that had ripped open. The room itself was very clean and quiet. It was nicely decorated and everything looked new. The shower worked well and the bed was comfortable. I was impressed with the quality of the room given the price and proximity to the airport. The next day I managed to grab some breakfast while I waited for the shuttle. The selection was good and included a belgian waffle maker. The shuttle can take up to 20 minutes to get there past your scheduled departure, so be prepared for that. read more

Nice room at a value. Our company CFO was coming into town at the last minute, the A Loft was sold out, and the closest hotel room available listed in their system within our budget was in Emeryville. So I got on my computer, started doing some search magic, and up popped The Dylan. I was very familiar with the area, and knew it was safe area, conveniently located to BART, CalTrain, and SFO, and had restaurants and shopping nearby. I called to check their availability, and David was incredibly helpful. We got the room booked, I visited the hotel too - love the SF flavored murals in the Lobby. Rooms were very clean and nicely decorated, I loved the fact that the coffee maker WAS NOT in the bathroom. The CFO also said he liked the hotel, mentioning the WiFi and breakfast,, and that stay there again. I think we have a new favorite hotel for folks visiting our office! I agree with Kelly W and others, the only downside is the limited number of parking spaces, but didn't seem to be a problem during the day we booked. read more

They add a $1.50/night "warranty fee" to "insure" anything you put into the safe in the guest room. Even if you don't use the safe, they still add the charge to your bill. Travelodge's website informs you that if you ask for a refund at checkout, then the desk attendant will waive the charge, but there is no signage in the hotel itself explaining this possible. http://www.travelodge.com/Travelodge/control/safemark?variant= The hotel runs a free shuttle form the airport, but it only runs every half hour, so you are better off taking BART from the airport to the hotel. The building has no sound insulation, so you can hear all your neighbors' (left, right, and above) sounds of sex, music, chatter, stomping, coughing, etc.... During both nights of my stay, my neighbor let his alarm siren ring for a solid hour (until I left the building). When I called the front desk to ask them to check on the room and turn the alarm off, they said they "couldn't disturb a guest in his room". I guess the occupants of the other adjacent rooms didn't count as guests, since we certainly were disturbed. The showers don't have much water pressure. The bed was fine. The continental breakfast was nice. The location is very convenient to the BART+Caltrain. These benefits don't compensate for a complete lack of restfulness in the room overnight, so Travelodge isn't really an improvement over sleeping in the street next to the station. read more

2 stars for being Close to airport. That's a plus. Rooms are very small and doors are on outside of the building. They did take some measures to secure the side of the building that the doors open to, but if you don't know the area it's hard to feel comfortable. Beds are ok, a/c and heat work fine but the water from the toilet, sink and shower smells really bad. It's like a sulfer almost sewer-like odor and I'm definitely not taking a shower here. I washed my hands and I can smell an unpleasant odor on my skin. Would not stay here again. read more

This hotel was not luxurious nor was it over-the-top. In its past life it might have been a road-side inn of one brand or another given its motel-like architecture and cinder block walls. But someone has spent a lot of time and energy to turn it into something entirely different. They call themselves a "boutique" hotel. I might not go that far but its a very nice place to stay in the Bay Area. First, its located about 10 min from the SFO car rental facility - essentially one exit south on the 101. Its not that easy to get into because of the weird side road forcing you to go around the back for the easiest entry to the parking lot. Parking can get tight when they are sold out so beware. The lobby is tiny as is the breakfast area. But there is also a very nice outdoor patio on the first floor towards the back of the facility that is terribly underused - but we made good use of it. Just a nice place to chill out with the full wall mural and the water fountain. The rooms are nice having been redone in the not that distant past as have the bathrooms. We loved the huge, glass, walk-in shower. One upgrade that should be done is to the "closet" area with the coffee maker bar that looks like its right out of the late 50s (maybe this is on purpose?? but it didn't seem to fit). The breakfast was good - more than adequate although the dining space was small and could be a problem on sell-out nights (personally we didn't have any problems finding someplace to sit). They could use a can of Pam for the waffle iron machines however given the number of times the waffles got stuck. The coffee machine in the lobby, which had GREAT hot chocolate was wonderful - available 24x7. Check in and out were a breeze and the counter staff were friendly and helpful. The location was 1 block from the Milbrae station for both BART and CalTrain. This was both wonderful and a problem because there are times when you can hear the trains which is not good when trying to sleep. There is only 1 small elevator but amazingly enough, we almost never had to wait more than a minute or two and it was never over flowing with other people. And another plus, there are tons of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. Everything from Chipoltle and Starbucks across the street to what could be considered a Milbrae China Town a few blocks away. We ate in a Japanese, Chinese, Steak, and even Italian in "downtown" Milbrae - all of them being a less than 10 min walk from the hotel. Oh, did I mention that there is an In-N-Out Burger around the corner? We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Dylan and would definitely come back if we were in the area. read more

Although we live in the area, we stayed here b/c of a $15 'glitch rate' (I know!) and couldn't resist. Ran into lots of world trekker types, most of whom hear about it the wiki-way. Rooms are standard/basic and not the most modern decor, but very clean and good TV. Quiet except for ambient plane noise. Continental breakfast was much better than expected...boiled eggs, sandwich meats, and hot cinnamon buns. Nice! Good budget option, as it's within walking distance to restaurants and BART/CalTrain. Locally owned/managed and the owners appear to take great pride in the place. read more

Not bad, nothing to WOW me. The other Reviewers were right, it's an old Travel Lodge with a whole bunch of new paint. They did a great job over renovating the place but they didn't do it with new fixtures, they just rebuilt and repainted the old. Slightly hard to get to because it was confusing. However, it really is right next to Bart and Cal train. If I could recommend anything to the Dylan management, it's that although you may be seeking the higher rates of a 3 or 4 star hotel, I'm sorry, a 1974 Pinto with new paint is still a 1974 Pinto. Your rates are just too high for what you provide. Bottom line: I enjoyed my stay, the room was clean, the maintenance was great, everything worked, there was plenty of free parking. Bads: The breakfast was the same thing I'd expect from a gas station. You want to be a 3 to 4 star? Buy some actual creamer for your coffee. We all don't drink plain. The front desk guy was very pleasant and helpful, I had a view, the cookies in the evening made the place very comforting, and it is nice to have some open restaurants that were walking distance. Again, prices are way too high and the breakfast sucks. That's about as bad as it got. read more

The only thing more surprising than the following story is how high the reviews of this hotel are: In early February, I was leaving Hawaii with my girlfriend for Chicago. Our flight was delayed four hours and we were going to miss our connection in San Francisco so we decided to book a room at The Dylan. After conflicting reports from the airline about our ETA to San Francisco, we realized we didn't need the room after all and attempted to cancel the room. They wouldn't let us. The flight ended up getting in late after all and we left the airport for the hotel (at 1am) confident we had a room. We arrived to the hotel to a middle aged gentlemen who explained to us that they had given our room away. We asked to speak with a manager and were told he "wasn't going to bother the manager at that hour". The other hotels in the area were booked, it was pouring down rain, and the middle aged man working at the front desk was too stoned to assist us in a replacement for the room we had paid for. He essentially kicked us to the curb at 130am in the pouring rain. He didn't assist us in finding a new hotel or even act apologetic for the fact that they gave our room away- after it had been paid for. He didn't care. It wasn't HIS problem. And he didn't have any qualms about the fact that we had nowhere to go. It was truly one of the most disgusting displays of humanity i've ever seen. BUYER BEWARE: This hotel is unethical, careless and takes advantage of people. I've never had the displeasure of working with a more disgusting group of individuals in 15 years in the travel and hospitality business. P.S - the booking was through booking.com, who eventually ended up eating the money for the room. Because obviously these double dipping sleazeballs were totally cool with what happened. read more

My wife and I just stayed at the Dylan for a work/vacation thing we did that required us to be in Palo Alto (for work) and also in San Francisco (for play). The Dylan (located in Millbrae) is a perfect in-between place to get a reduced rate and easy access to both. Many great things about the Dylan 1) 10 minutes away from the airport by shuttle, bus or Uber: it's the last stop for the shuttle and bus before the airport, and both bus and shuttle are literally steps away from the hotel (the bus stop is like a quarter block away). If you're in a pinch, paying 2.25 (as of this writing) for the bus was basically the same as taking a shuttle...and takes the same amount of time to get there! 2) The room was perfectly clean and really nice. No problem with the shower, water pressure, sink, toilet, coffee maker, iron, tv or anything else 3) At night I didn't hear anything more than just your typical city sounds: no airport take-offs, no loud chopper bikes, no sirens (to speak of), and only a little bumping around upstairs (from the third floor). I slept soundly every night 4) The people at the front desk were friendly and nice to us, because we were friendly and nice to them. 5) Just a 5-6 minute easy walk to the Milbrae caltrain station. We used this every day to get to Stanford and to San Francisco. It was amazingly easy. And when you are walking to the caltrain you can stop at... 7) Peter's Cafe, an authentic fifties diner just a 3 minute walk from the Dylan. This place is the real deal and will serve you THA BEST egg/bacon/toast/coffee. They also have great burgers. And they do coffee to go. 8) The Dylan is also close to In-And-Out Burger and lots of japanese, chinese, and other asian restaurants. There is even a short bike/running path about a block away if you want to get some exercise. We really liked this place, and we would absolutely stay there again!! read more

Wall and ceiling are too thin. Could hear all noises from the other rooms. Could not get good sleep. Too closed to a train station. Parking lot is too small. Had to park on the street both nights. We stayed there for 1 night, and left car (with extra fee) for 2 more nights. The location is more than perfect, very close to bart and caltrain station (2-3 min walking distance), also they have airport shuttle to San Francisco Airport just not far away. Parking car there with lodging is free, and extend parking is available for $7/day plus 12% city tax. The disadvantage is the really small space (hotel room is so small that almost no space for luggages), but it is acceptable due to location. Room is clean, interior is new (remodeled at 2013), still okay. Price is a little bit high comparing to other hotels nearby, but, the great location overcomes most incovenience. Early bird discount is available, so planning ahead will help to keep the budget. read more

Extremely poor customer service today on the phone when trying to get to the bottom of an unauthorized charge on my credit card. A gentleman with limited basic English skills literally yelled at me when I asked him to find me someone else who might understand my question better (and quit telling me an unauthorized charge 'is impossibility'. ) He yelled loudly that he was all alone there and didn't have time (to the best of my understanding.) He told me all I could do was call back tomorrow (Saturday) to try to speak with anyone else. Then he refused to give me either his name or that of a manager, and he hung up on me. I have stayed several times in the past without issue and even brought family there and written a good trip advisor review, but I am reevaluating whether a place that employs someone so rude is somewhere that deserves business. I guess I will have to try to call tomorrow and also get with my credit card company to dispute the fraudulent charge. What a pain. read more

I got to S.F. about 3 and had a flight the next morning at 7. This was a great place to stop. The desk clerk, Marco, was the nicest desk clerk I've ever experienced. The rooms are clean, comfortable, with all the amenities. It's within walking distance of a huge amount of restaurants, a shopping center with a Trader Joes (great for travel food) and pharmacies. And the price was very reasonable! All within 1.5 miles of the airport! And they have a shuttle service! read more

This hotel has unreasonable business ethics. I booked a hotel via hotel.com. I could not stay here due to a conflict with my other colleagues. They refused to refund my money. Although I cancelled months in advance. I will never do business with them again. I don't advise anyone else to do it either. read more

The actual room was nice. Night staff was extremely pleasant. Unfortunately woke up to a lady knocking at my door around 8am. ( 12 noon check out ) walked outside around 9am asked the sir at the front desk for a late check out (1pm). Around 10am I was alarmed with a knock quickly followed with an attempted entrance. Luckily I had the safety latch on. Immediately called the front desk to notify them of the situation. 10mins later I hear a discussion outside the room.. the housekeeper denied opening the door. At this point I no longer need the late check out. I've been awake since 8... upon my departure I stopped by the front desk to place a formal complaint in hopes to help a new establishment.. I was unfortunately met with major hostility an attitude. I hope and pray this treatment was not based on the color of my skin..... read more

This Travelodge is a great place.The rooms are clean, beds neatly made up and Bathroom is neat. The breakfast had French Toast in addition to the Cereals, Oatmeal, Muffin and the regular Continental breakfast. I am impressed as they use Paper plates and paper bowls instead of the Styrofoam plates and Bowls. Even the coffee cups were paper cups. This is a great and welcome change... read more

I had to travel to San Francisco for a 5 day business trip and everything in San Francisco was booked because of the Salesforce conference. I'll admit, this place is hands down the cleanest place I've stayed at during my trips to San Francisco. The only downside about this place was when someone was showering or flushed you could hear the water pipes squealing so that's why I gave it a 4 star... Staying here on business and very disappointed. We were trying to books rooms for 3 people during the Oracle convention and ended getting 1 room for 2 at the Dylan and another room up the road at another hotel. Once the convention was over, I transferred into the Dylan and the 2 other people were given separate rooms. Our company was very explicit about requesting room with fridge and microwaves since we'd be staying for 2 weeks--only 1 room had fridge and micro, even though the rooms were being billed at the same rate. Tried to send out laundry after about a week into our stay, even though there is a bag for laundry, don't be fooled--there is no laundry service at the Dylan. The staff was incredibly rude when I called to inquire and couldn't even be troubled to recommend a cleaner we could take our things to. And other than the morning shift, rude front desk staff was an issue throughout our 2 week stay. Most hotels with airport shuttle service require you to call the desk 30-60 minutes before you need the shuttle. Be forewarned, you will need to make your shuttle arrangements the night before you want the shuttle. Oh, be prepared to pay for using the in-room safe even though there's nothing telling you this upfront. As far as the rooms themselves go, they're clean and comfortable. My bath linens were ratty--fraying along the edges and a couple of bath towels were actually torn and had holes. Wish they were not so stingy with the coffee either, not that it's particularly good coffee. The Dylan is extremely convenient to the BART station, which made commuting into The City for work everyday a breeze. But I still wish I had stayed at the other hotel I was in the first few night for the remainder of my trip--it would have been another half-mile to and from the BART station, but the slight inconvenience would have been worth it. I've already spoken with my company's travel agent and instructed them never to book our teams at The Dylan again. I think the Dylan is fine if you're looking for a clean budget place, convenient to the BART, but if you're here for an extended stay or on business, you're better off looking elsewhere for a little more on the creature comfort side. read more

My wife and I stayed two nights at the end of November, 2013.and were very pleased with our visit. Hotel room looked as though it had been recently refurbished, clean, comfortable. Staff was courteous, breakfast buffet more than adequate, and price reasonable for airport vicinity. When I carelessly left my computer tablet behind, the efficient staff both phoned my home and emailed that they had found the unit.. Then cooperated in making retrieval convenient.
