1/4 Dark Chicken, Grilled Cheese, Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Blackberry Lemonade

Love this place!! Visited on a weekday for lunch and were able to get seated right away. (Also lots of parking because it's at a mall). The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is casual but super comfortable with a lot of natural light inside. We ordered a blackberry lemonade which was pretty good, not super strong blackberry flavor. The grilled cheese is amazing--such a great combination of sweet and savory and super cheesy. The dipping jam is the best part! The Mac and cheese is one of the best I've ever had. It's crunchy and has a good deep flavor. The chicken was pretty good--nothing crazy, but I expected it to be crispier. Collard greens were a good side to balance it a very carb-heavy meal. Prices are pretty reasonable. Overall had a great experience--will definitely be back for the Mac and grilled cheese!

We had a reservation for 31. We had one waiter...was concerned however he knocked it out of the park!! He didn't fumbled a thing...one of the best I've seen in a long time! Kudos to him. I wish I remembered his name. Awesome food as well! Some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten! Burnt ends- amazing! Hush puppies- crunchy and tasty Mashed potatoes- delicious We will be back next time in town Off street parking available.

This was my 3rd time back at The Eagle since my first visit. Each time the food and service are great. This was a solo trip right when they opened at 4pm. I took advantage of the happy hour $5 shot of the day and $5 High Life chalice. That was a nice start to my evening and the beer was so refreshing in that big glass chalice on a hot day. I chose the meat and three which confused me because I thought it meant 3 sides. But I was only offered two. Maybe the 3 means 3 including the biscuit. At any rate, it was plenty of food. I opted for burnt ends, collards and mashed potatoes. The burnt ends were a little chewy to me but I haven't had them before so maybe they are supposed to be? Still very good and I ate it all. Next time I will ask for light bbq sauce. That's just a personal preference. The mashed potatoes were a generous portion of buttery, savory, creamy deliciousness. Delightful taste and texture. The drop biscuit was perfection. A light crisp on the outside, buttery and soft inside. The star for me at The Eagle is always the collards. They are so delicious! Tender, tart with just the right amount of vinegar and seasoning. Although it is a good sized portion, I could have eaten double they were so good. The service from the host and my server was great. Warm, friendly and timely. My bill including drinks and tip was under $30. I will return.

Came for dinner at 5p on a Wednesday. Overall, we were pretty disappointed. Despite all of the outdoor tables being vacant, the host asked if we could sit next to another couple. I guess she could tell we were confused, because she then offered to clean and seat us at another table. We ordered a jalapeño margarita, buffalo chicken dip, hush puppies and chicken sandwich. We asked about the happy hour beer and our waitress said they were out of it. (Kinda surprised she didn't offer another suggestion). The marg was $12 and wasn't very tasty. The Buffalo chicken dip and hush puppies were both extremely spicy. My partner and I both enjoy spicy foods, but gosh I had to guzzle down water after every bite. The chicken sandwich was tasty, I enjoyed the coleslaw on it. Was really hoping to love this place :(

Atmosphere was great. The food was amazing. The fried chicken BLT was amazing and a half fried chicken was so good. This place is a must go to.

Gave it another try. The Eagle and everything was absolutely delicious. The kale salad was fresh, perfectly balanced, and flavorful--not boring at all. The nachos with pulled pork were loaded, savory, and packed with smoky goodness in every bite. And the burnt ends mac and cheese bowl was the star--rich, creamy, and full of tender, flavorful meat that melted in your mouth. Comfort food done right. Its been 7 years from my first review. The service was still mediocre either. They're under staff or they underestimated people coming in on Saturday 3 o'clock.

This place came highly recommended upon our first trip to Louisville. We were warmly welcomed when entering the establishment and were given recommendations by our server. They did not disappoint! This place is fantastic! The chicken, unspeakably great!!!!!! The best part was the hush puppies as well. They have a great selection of local craft beer on draft and an excellent selection of cocktails for the Mrs. This place is a must visit of in the area!

    Fried Chicken Sandwich, Apricot martini

Mid-day on Sunday we had some time to kill before our flight home to Vegas, so I searched the inter-web for a "local's lunch spot with exceptional southern comfort food near Louisville airport" and found The Eagle. We arrived around 2pm, there were a few parties ahead of us, which is a good indicator for great cuisine, considering it was after the typical lunch rush and there are numerous dining options on the block. We waited roughly 20 minutes for a table. Despite the busy dining room, our server was phenomenal - welcoming, knowledgeable, and attentive - her recommendations were excellent. First, the apricot martini is delightful, it was so good my sister and I ordered a second round. My daughter got the bourbon punch, which was huge and refreshing, then she ordered the apricot martini after tasting mine. Divine. The three of us shared an order of biscuits and they were the closest to my great grandmother's homemade biscuits I've ever had. My sister said they were the best she'd ever tasted (that's saying a lot since our great grandmother grew up in the early 1900s on the Oklahoma prairie making biscuits from scratch with buttermilk and lard, "the right way"). The accompanying preserves were delicious, not a morsel was left. As for the mains, we shared the mac & cheese as a side, 1/4 fried chicken, fried chicken sandwich, and fried chicken BLT. They were all fantastic. If I were forced to choose only one, I'd get the BLT - that rustic Italian bread, avocado relish, and jalapeño honey mayo atop their fried chicken are perfection. And, their mac & cheese is out of this world, just a hint of spice... I could eat it daily, I'd be fat but oooh soooo happy! We also sampled their spoon bread which was melty maple-butter cornbread skillet yumminess. By the time we got to it, we could barely eat any more. We still managed to put a respectable dent in it because "dessert stomach" is a real thing hehehe If I lived nearby, The Eagle would be a regular spot. Shout out to Naile for her superb service (remember to trust your servers). Highly recommend!

The fried chicken and spoonbread are not to be missed! We were on a food/walking tour and this was one of the stops. Our food and drink had been preordered by the tour group. The staff that took care of us were great! My husband loves fried chicken and he really liked theirs. This was our first time having spoonbread and we are big fans! I'd go back!

Fried chicken, Mac n cheese, collard greens

We came here on a Thursday night for dinner. The waiter was nice and checked on us frequently. The bbq burnt ends were tragic. They were hard and overcooked, which is not how they're supposed to be so I feel sorry for the people that haven't tried Kansas City bbq burnt ends because Kansas City knows how it's supposed to go. Burnt ends are supposed to be tender and fall apart, not hard cooked like chicken nuggets. It was very disappointing. I don't recommend you order the burnt ends. The fried chicken is probably the best thing on the menu. It was well seasoned, well cooked, and served at the perfect temperature. The Mac n cheese was okay. I think it needed more seasoning or a different combination of seasoning and maybe a different milk used to cook it. The collard greens were great. I loved the vinegar but the portion was a lot smaller than she said it would be for the full table.

As usual, we were debating over what to have for dinner and photos of the fried chicken solidified that this was the place to be. We probably should have made reservations, but appreciated the open seating at the bar. My hubby and I both got the quarter white fried chicken. He got the fries and I got the collard greens and coleslaw. The chicken was so juicy and tender. The seasoning was really good with a little bit of spicy. At first I was worried that I was gonna need some hot sauce, but it was just right. What took it over the top is the hot honey sauce that comes in the little syrup jar. I actually asked if they sold this in bottles for me to purchase. He let me know that they did not, but he put some in a to go container for me to have with the rest of my chicken. I have so many ideas of all the things that I could have with this sauce!

While visiting Louisville, I was looking for something local with authentic Southern flavor, and after some research I decided to try The Eagle. It's a very casual spot--more like a bar--but it's well-known for its fried chicken, and it definitely lives up to the reputation. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, crispy, and incredibly juicy. The mac & cheese was creamy with a rich, noticeable cheese flavor. The hush puppies were moist and delicious, and the honey spoon bread is something people talk about for a reason--absolutely a must-try for any visitor. The service and ambiance were great as well. Staff were attentive, and the environment felt relaxed and comfortable. They also have TVs with closed captioning for watching sports, along with a wide variety of drinks and craft beers. If you're visiting Louisville and looking for comforting Southern food, The Eagle is definitely a place you need to check out.

Wish I took a pic before we chowed down. Every bite that we sampled was simple perfection. Everything was delicious. Especially the burnt ends and chicken. My family and I split the apps, sides and a whole chicken. The mashed potato and Mac and cheese were delightful. Definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a fun trendy spot for some delicious southern food. Thanks Eagle!

Ask the Community - The Eagle Louisville

How much parking is there? We have a big truck?

There is parking behind the restaurant and there is parking lots down the street, it would be just a short walk to get to the restaurant. Of course street parking on Bardstown road / side streets.

Is the outdoor patio dog friendly?

Yes, when it's open during the summer.

Looking for somewhere to go after my graduation at the expo center with my family. Would this be a good place for about 11 people? Reservations?

    Yes, but make reservations.

The restaurant includes a long row of bar seating that extends to the other end of the restaurant, so there was no problem for me to find a seat on a busy day. I ordered the Mac n cheese and braised greens, and the Mac n cheese was really good and creamy. The braised greens were just okay, it wasn't the best greens I've had and it could use extra flavor. I don't know if this is a thing they do at Doc Crow's, but in my opinion the bartender excessively kept asking me what I wanted even while I was still looking at the menu. This definitely frustrated me since it was clear that I wasn't ready yet. I think she should have done a better job reading my cues to figure out when I am ready to order.

My top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality and I spent most of the afternoon on a bourbon tour and a post-tour distillery so...food was needed. And quickly. In our mild defense, we didn't really know how the day was going to go or when we were actually going to have dinner, which made it a little tougher to pre-plan, but no research went into this at all and we paid for it. We wrapped up our bourbon adventures at the Angel's Envy distillery probably five or six blocks from here. Instead of being grownups and doing at least a quick/impromptu recon for spots, we literally just walked outside and down W Main St until we hit something. And we hit this, which was right on the edge of the main tourist area, pretty much Louisville's equivalent of the Times Square/MSG area. And as someone who works and used to live in NYC, you'd have to do a lot of convincing to get me to eat in that particular area - it's overpriced and the food/service just tends to not be very good, which makes you wonder what the appeal is for tourists beyond the convenience. But regardless, it's always struck me as an odd way for a tourism spot to put its best foot forward (or not). Doc Crow's is enormous, and when we were brought further into the restaurant to our table, I think we literally walked through three or four large rooms and navigated through multiple passageways. If you told me this place took up an entire city block or close to it, I'd believe you. Beyond the size/scope, there's nothing really distinctive that separates it from the myriad of other restaurants you'd expect to see catering to out-of-towners. It was the Friday evening of Memorial Day Weekend, so a place that I suspect is usually pretty busy was even busier and louder than that. Maybe not the greatest recipe after a bourbon tour, but who can say. On the app front, we got the Crispy Salmon Bites, which were fine. Not an item I typically see on a menu, even one with more of a seafood bent. I thought the cornmeal/panko breading was the right call; I'm a big catfish aficionado, so I'm of the opinion that cornmeal is underutilized, at least in the Northeast where I come from. Otherwise, nothing really mind-blowing there; probably would have made sense for it to be a different type of fish given the prep (I think salmon is best raw in a sushi roll or grilled), but it could have been worse. I don't think a ton of thought went into this on my end, but I went with the full rack BBQ ribs, along with a side of mac n' cheese. Again, okay, though not as flavorful as I would have hoped and I thought the ribs were on the dry side. Not their fault, but I always regret getting the full rack in hindsight because ribs have a deceptively significant amount of meat on the bones and a half rack is a very decent portion by itself; I am a work in progress just like everyone else. The mac n' cheese was also pretty dry, which I think you can see pretty obviously in the accompanying picture. Tasted and felt reheated at least once or twice. The service was pretty efficient given how busy it was, but our waiter was just on robotic autopilot. Not remotely personable and everything I said to him was responded to with, "For sure, for sure." Maybe he was having a rough night to start the holiday weekend, but it felt like he was just going through the motions and just checking off some boxes there. I went into this already predisposed to not like the generic tourist trap places, so grain of salt. But my recommendation if you have the time/bandwidth (now that I'm a cagey Louisville vet) is to bypass this area if you can and find something tastier and more interesting in the Highlands neighborhood. That's where the real ones are.

Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

Menu isn't extensive but good items and variety that will satisfy anyone's appetite. It was Father's Day but as soon as it opened they were quickly filled with patrons and people kept coming; even waiting to get in. The fries in duck fat were awesome. Since so many baskets of fries like this for a long time. The smoked wings are great, meaty and savory. I had the pork belly tacos; my only disappointment was you only get 2 per order. The fine combination of ingredients were splendid and the pork belly so tender. My wife had the bbq pork sandwich on pretzel bun. Very good tasting and this was with no bbq sauce on it. If you're in the area, do yourself a a favor and stop in. I can't wait to go back ( as we live in southern Indiana) so might be a bit but definitely want to try a few other items.

A member of our party got up and asked the bartender if he could turn it down (asked politely), and was ignored. Literally ignored - bartender looked at my friend and the just walked away (and not to turn down the music). Next cocktail was AWFUL... food came out, and it was hot but nothing great; fries were oily. Churros were tough and overcooked as well. Our server (a younger woman) was attentive and friendly, and that was the highlight of our visit. She did turn down the music when we asked (and after another table I believe also asked). It wasn't a busy night, and I love the vinyl vibe and cool venue - we will come back and try again, but when 3 cocktails, an appetizer, and entree cost close to $100 before tip (for 2 - our friends were the same, so $200 for a table), you really need to be on point and provide solid service.

There are a lot of brunch cocktails (variations of mimosas and bloody marys, beer and tomato juice concoctions) and there massive bar if you're wanting something else. Prices on all pretty fair and pours are generous. For the food, I had the chicken and waffles and it was really good--the waffle was crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside, perfectly toasted. I love the overall ambience/atmosphere of this place. Our server was fantastic, very kind and efficient. Didn't rush us out as we took our time with each course and spent the morning catching up.

We loved having a pre-Derby lunch here! Visiting a friend who lives nearby, she plans to come back!…read more We shared the Duck Poppers which were small but yummy. A nice little treat. Then I ordered the soup and a side of grits, which were both delicious. My husband order the Beef cheek Po Boy - yummy! And my friend ordered the Cuban. The fries are tasty and everything tasted incredibly fresh and well prepared. Of course we saved room for dessert and shared the Banana Cream Pudding. It had a roasted marshmallow top and probably the beat Banana pudding I've had! For drinks, we got the Filly Lilly, A specialty Mint Julio with Thyme in it, and the winner was the Strawberry Rhubarb Buck. Wow! Not only was the food delicious, but the service was great and everyone was very friendly and helpful. We sat inside because it was a dreary first half of the day before the sun came out for the Derby! But, there were a lot of nice outdoor areas to sit and enjoy your food or beverages. You will find something you love at the Kitchen Table. I highly recommend!

Order: deviled egg with country ham marmalade with redeye aioli. The perfect bite. Just order it and you will be so happy. Creamy egg with the crunchy texture of the ham. Yum! Duck bomb with cane sugar gastrique. Great combo of sweet and salty. The sauce just brightens the entire dish. Cheese sampler was ok flavor. Toast points were deep fried and seasoned well. Brisket dinner. Just ok. Slightly dry, definitely needed a sauce on the side. The bean medley on the bottom was ok. I don't think i would order again. Honey glazed fried chicken was the star of the show. Perfectly crispy exterior with juicy meat on the inside. The best bite of the day for sure. The surprise of the day was the "french onion soup" inspired mac and cheese. Just a delicious play on a traditional mac and cheese.

The Boudin Balls are fantastic--easily better than most I've tried. I always order gumbo when it's on a menu, and theirs is a very solid choice, but the She Crab Bisque completely stole the show. Lou Lou on Market absolutely delivered when it came to the food. From the moment my meal arrived, I…read morecould tell I was in for something special. I ordered the shrimp and grits, and without exaggeration, they were the best I've ever had. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the balance of textures throughout the dish was incredible. Every bite had the perfect amount of crunch, flavor, and toppings. Nothing felt overwhelming or out of place. It was one of those meals where you find yourself slowing down just to enjoy every bite. Even the water deserves a mention. It was clean, crisp, and refreshing. If it came straight from the tap, I would have never known. It's a small detail, but it speaks to the overall dining experience when even something as simple as water stands out. The service was great, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. It's easy to see why this restaurant has built such a strong reputation. The reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 comes down to accessibility. As a person with a disability, parking can make or break a dining experience. Unfortunately, there was no handicap parking available, and there were no nearby parking spots open when I arrived. I ultimately had to park in a hotel lot about a block away, which cost $25 for just two hours. Not only was the cost frustrating, but the additional distance was challenging given my mobility needs. The food was phenomenal and absolutely worth trying, but I do hope accessibility becomes part of the conversation for future guests. For those without mobility concerns, this may not be an issue, but for disabled patrons, it's something important to consider before visiting.
