Oh wow where to begin - everything at the eagle was delicious! Nearly exploded at the end but it was all well worth it! We started with the bacon old fashioned and the sausage and kale dip, both of which were great. The dip was probably one thing I wouldn't go back for - it was super cheesy and didn't have enough kale but it was still really yummy. I then got the 1/4 dark meat fried chicken which was a great portion for one person (two drums and full thigh) and my friend got the fried chicken sandwich which was amazing. we shared the spoon bread (cornbread), Mac n chesse, and herbed fries. The spoon bread and Mac and cheese were soooo good, like just amazing. I'm a sucker for a good corn bread and none of it disappointed. I got a local beer and my friend got the blackberry lemonade which was a bit too sweet and the size was too large. We stopped by for carry out! The hostess was super rude. No one else was in the foyer, however she acted like we were taking up too much time. We order and I went into the restroom. She came back and asked my 12 year old what type chicken. She said thighs quickly because it bought her off guard. She sent in the order, when she brought my card back to pay, 2 seconds later. I asked if we could change the order to legs. Nastily she said "too late". Then she stood over me glaring as I signed my card. I left a 20% tip, even though she definitely didn't deserve it. However I afraid she's do something to our food. We set a timer, when it went off and went back in, she wasn't any happier, gave us our food and never looked back. Went for lunch on 10/17 I loved every minute of it. The place is very old but perfectly appointed. The drinks were great and the food was better. The chicken was as tender as I have ever tasted. The fries were amazing. My daughter had the Mac and said it was great. We are only in town for a few days and that it to bad because I would be a regular. Our server was also great. We used Open Table to make reservations on a Friday evening. This is a great suggestion because the place got busy after 6:00. It was rather warm and we asked for a different table that was in a cooler location. The hostess seemed annoyed but then the manager was able to accommodate the change and what a difference it made ... a more enjoyable dining atmosphere was created. Chris, our server, was excellent. First time here and it was an okay experience. It is in a crowded location and is pretty small inside, so reservations are recommended. The food just wasn't there for me. We went to The Eagle hoping to sit on the patio, but unfortunately it wasn't open yet. I was a little hesitant with Covid to sit inside, but they are doing a great job. All servers and people wearing masks unless you are at your table and I felt comfortable in the distance between other tables. The food was wonderful! My husband and I both got the chicken sandwich. It was a little spicy for me, but otherwise delicious and we shared sides of French fries, biscuits and spoon bread. All were SO good! I'd go back for just the delicious sides! In Louisville for a business trip and wanted to try something new. Went here on a Friday night with no reservations and we waited about 45 minutes to get seated..... so happy we waited! Stacey was our server and she was amazing! We started with a round of appetizers for the table; the pimento cheese board with pickled green beans, sausage and kale dip and my favorite the hush puppies with the comeback sauce. Went with the 3 cheese grilled cheese with apricot preserves for dinner, so delicious and the apple slices provided the right amount of tartness to balance the preserves. Server was very quickly on us to take orders. Food arrives and we don't see him again until we're finished. And we had told him w wanted another drink. Never mind once we're done!? Waited 30 mins for boxes and a check. All while the bartender who had seen us the whole time was now sitting down eating dinner w multiple other employees and looking right at us. So happy to have chosen the eagle for our last dinner in Louisville. Our server, teddy was so friendly and professional. He gave great recommendations, you can tell he likes the food there too! We got the spicy chicken dip as an app (came out not very hot and they gave us a new one in just a few mins), it was delicious and flavorful. It's not really Buffalo chicken dip, something different and even more yummy. It had a little bit of a queso flavor, came with tortilla chips. We then got the fried chicken blt with a side of macaroni and cheese. The chicken blt had so many layers of flavor! It was awesome. The mac and cheese was equally as killer. I grew up across the river often referred to as "the sunny side of Louisville". My mom and Grandma was from the hills of Kentucky (Harlan County) though and knew how to cook fried chicken. I was a bit skeptical even when our server, Ashley indicated "we're known for our chicken" but decided to take the plunge. We started off with a couple cocktails and they were delish....unique and tasty! We ordered the "whole" fried chicken, collard greens, Mashed potatoes and gravy and succotash. The chicken was the best chicken I've had in 25 years! Seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection! The DM stopped by and he indicated the brine was soaked for 36 hours and it showed. Chicken should be tasty, salty and juicy and lightly "breaded" and it was all the above! Talk about Impressed beyond measure! The collard greens were cooked with a slight light crisp and was Devine! The succotash, is a culinary dish consisting primarily of sweet corn with lima beans or other shell beans with some other veggies. It was good....real good! Back to the chicken...I'll be back and if you're a true friend chicken lover like me you're missing out if you don't stop by! On a cloudy day the Sun was shining bright on The Eagle! BROWN SUGAR BACON. Got your attention yet? We were here one summer afternoon meeting a friend who happened to be 'in town' (from Wisconsin -- so we met up in Louisville). Now, I'm not a big bacon person.... but my husband and his friend are. So, they ordered a brown sugar bacon appetizer to share, which arrives crispy & standing up in a cup. They loved it. My son tried it and loved it. I tried it and loved it. It was gone too fast. Since I am at a point where I order kid-friendly meals for myself to share with my son, I also ordered the grilled cheese, which comes with apricot preserves, Granny Smith apples, and bread on the side. The grilled cheese sandwich was ADORABLE! Yes. Adorable. It arrived on a circle, wooden platter and was cut in the shape of a heart. A HEART! Unexpected, but cute. And every bite was amazing. The three cheeses tasted wonderful together. The apricot preserves was yummy for dipping the apples and sandwich in. Even though I mainly ordered this dish for my child, it was just the comfort food I needed to eat. My husband and his friend enjoyed their meals too, whatever it was. (Have you noticed by now that I always pay attention to my meal but never pay attention to what everyone else eats!?) Service was fine, prices are moderate, place is clean, bathrooms are cool, and the outdoor area looked nice, too. Also, while this place was kind of family-friendly, there are no high chairs. My toddler spent most of his meal bouncing around on the booth seat. This probably isn't a place you would typically bring children to, though. Overall, pleasant experience. I love Southern food, but it does not love me. My husband has been asking to try out The Eagle for a while now, so after realizing that I didn't *have* to get fried chicken, I agreed. It was a warm day, so we asked to be seated outside. The high top seating outside is pretty uncomfortable. The stools don't have backs to them and there is only about three inches between the top of the stool and the table, so if you've got thick thighs, ask to sit inside or at a low top table! First off, they had my FAVORITE beer from Gravely -- Doc's Hefe -- so I had to start off with that. My husband ordered half of a fried chicken (spoiler alert: he ate ALL of it in one sitting), I ordered the kale salad, and we both shared horseradish mashed potatoes and a bowl of cheesy grits. The fried chicken was (obviously) great, as my husband ate every single bit of it. The kale salad was wonderful (and I am not a salad person). The mashed potatoes were...different. I love horseradish, but I wasn't a fan of the taste in my potatoes. The potatoes are definitely a shareable item, by the way. There is a LOT. The cheesy grits were ah-may-zing. The service was fairly quick and we had no issues with our food being incorrect or cold or anything. We were in and out pretty fast and we left with full bellies of Southern goodness. read more

The Eagle is a favorite of mine. I recently brought and out of town friend here. Again, like always, I'm starving when I come and order every side under the sun. We went on a Friday night without reservations and waited about 40 min for a table. We walked down bardstown while we waited. The service was great although it did take a while to get our food and our server was a little MIA at times but we still had a great time with amazing food. I was able to sit at the bar instead of waiting 40 min for a table. The candied bacon was delicious but I wished it came out as an appetizer instead of having to remind them that I ordered it after my food came. The server warned me that it wouldn't be room temperature and that was fine. The spoon bread was also yummy and was the perfect addition to my chicken sandwich. I would definitely recommend this establishment to those in the area, especially those who may be visiting from another town, especially if not from the area or region. I was in Louisville for work and staying at an AirBnB near Bardstown. We looked at Yelp for a good place to have dinner and the Eagle looked great. Simple menu, good ambiance and close by. When we arrived, we were told that it would be around 30 minutes wait for our table of five. Their outdoor patio was closed for dining, but the fire pits were lit, so we decided to wait outside. It was slightly cool, but the fire kept the cold at bay, and we had a wonderful time talking with fellow waiting diners before our table was ready. It was a great outdoor space and I imagine it's the preferred spot when it's warmer. Once our table was ready, we reviewed the menu and found that friend chicken was their specialty. The menu wasn't extensive, but it made for easy choices. I ordered the half chicken dark meat with a side of collard greens. When it arrived, I anxiously took the first bite of chicken. Some places know how to do chicken and others do it, but not well. Also, fried chicken can be lava-hot when it first comes to your table. This was neither too hot or sub-par, it was incredible chicken. The batter wasn't too thick and the black pepper seasoning was just enough to give it a little bite without being too peppery. It was perfect. My collard greens were also really good. Perfect, zesty flavor and perfectly cooked, nothing slimy about it. I would definitely recommend the Eagle, but I'd be hard-pressed to say what was better, the food, the service, or the ambiance, it was all great!
