We went to The Eagle for my mom's birthday dinner. I arrived 30 minutes earlier and the hostess still seated me. The restaurant is split into two levels the lower floors which is a mixture of tables, high tops and booths, we were put at a table. My server Quintez took my drink orders while I waited for the rest of my party to arrive. Once they arrived I ordered a hand chicken and got the greens and biscuits as my sides. The chicken was seasoned to perfection and didn't need the hot honey butter provided. The biscuits were fluffy, and the greens were almost as good as my mom's (she might read this)! Great food and great staff! Hostess was very welcoming as soon as we walked in and gave us a little overview of the menu while walking us to our seat. I was planning a Bourbon Trail/roadtrip to Cincinnati getaway and started with our first destination: Louisville. By the time I got to Cincinnati planning, I realized this place is actually FROM Cincinnati. It ended up working out though because our eating schedule up there was completely packed without trying to throw this into the mix. I made a rez for a Tuesday evening and it didn't seem like it was needed but it certainly was crowded. I know they have, supposedly, really good fried chicken but I'm a vegetarian so the main reason I wanted to come here was to sample Louisville's famous spoon bread. Our server was awesome, very nice and a pleasure to interact with during this meal. They have an interesting cocktail menu with a southern flair, bourbon certainly well represented. I can't remember what I was eyeing but GF ordered the highly recommended maple old fashioned which brought me back to when I had one of those at Poogan's Porch in Charleston. Look at me name dropping restaurants lmao. The maple old fashioned at this place is a little more mature than the one they serve at Poogan's, which is pretty much sweet tea. This was a little too bourbony for my taste and didn't enjoy it. GF, with a more sophisticated palate, liked hers and had no trouble taking over mine. The blackberry lemonade, with bourbon instead of the standard vodka, was more my speed. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and was served in a GIGANTIC glass. This is a great choice if you are a child like I am. I didn't have high hopes for many vegetarian options but I was extremely pleasantly surprised. The kale salad really appealed to me with apples, bourbon soaked raisins, cornbread croutons, sharp cheddar, and cider vinaigrette. It was fantastic, a really wonderful assortment of flavors and textures. GF ordered the 1/4 chicken which she reports was good, nice and juicy. We also ordered the white cheddar grits, horseradish mashed potatoes, and of course, the spoon bread. The grits were so flavorful with a nice kick of heat. The spoon bread was so good! It was sweeter than I was expecting but served as a nice little dessert. When asked about the mashed potatoes (have chicken gravy so I abstained), GF says "better than sex". I wish we had room to get something else bc the server said the hushpuppies are amazing and I'm a whore for those. Oh well. Worth a visit for sure. read more

SO SO GOOD. We got the chicken, fries and the biscuits and a few drinks! We had Laine as our waitress and she was the absolute sweetest! She was helpful, attentive, and so kind! She was calm and quiet on a Wednesday night but it was an absolute delight to be in there, and everyone was so kind! The ambience is cool and rustic, with great attention to details. The service is very fast and the manager checked on us twice. We ordered quarter chicken, dark meat. The fried chicken is lightly spiced, served with honey, very good and confusing at the same time for my California palate. The shrimp with grits is a total winner, with buttery smooth grits and spicy Cajun gravy. I loved the picked green beans as well. I just love all the surprising southern pickles. This is one of our go to's for special occasions. Went here for an 18th bday dinner. The chicken with hot honey is fantastic. We always get spoonbread, and Mac n cheese. We tried the horseradish mashed potatoes this time which was good. Very little horseradish to detect which was a downside to me. The hosts always do a good job of acknowledging special occasions when they check you in but that communication never gets relayed to the server as it's not mentioned or celebrated at the table. The upside surprise were the best hush puppies I've ever eaten. The wire cheddar grits and the horseradish mashed potatoes were both great. The mac n cheese was too creamy for my taste (hard to believe that is possible but I guess you can add too much cream and overdo it). Had the bourbon punch thing which was huge and tasted amazing. Found this place on Yelp on our way from Orlando to 'up north'. Well worth the extra time off the highway! I had the fried chicken BLT ($13) and the shrimp and grits 'side' ($10). The sandwich was huge! Loaded w a beautifully fried chicken breast, bacon, avocado, fresh greens, and flavorful tomato slices. The S&G'S were a flavor bomb with 8 shrimp, sausage and 'NOLA' gravy. What lured us in was the grilled cheese with 3 cheeses, apricot jam and sliced apples ($8). My friend had that with a side of collards ($5). I had a local craft beer ($7) Service was friendly enough. The chicken was flavorful however it did not come out piping, hot and fresh. It tasted like it had been kept in a warm warmer and from our table right next to the kitchen with the doors constantly open, I could see the warmer very clearly. Even the side dishes were just warm and not piping hot. I let my guard down when we were seated. The hostess tried to seat us right by the front door with the outside temperature of 22° not a good idea so we moved in unbeknownst to me. We were stuck right next to the kitchen doors instead of up in the back where it was assuredly warmer and less hustle and bustle constantly walking past you all lessons to be learned, but as far as the food goes, they need to pay a little more attention to freshness of their food there's nothing worse than chicken that is not piping hot. I'm more than willing to wait the extra 20 minutes. It takes because I've been eating fried chicken all my life and I have a few years under my belt. read more

Easiest review I've ever written. Everything was 5star. Server, bar tender, drinks, cocktails and the food! Menu entrees are fried chicken, shrimp and grits or chicken sandwiches. The sides are extra and very shareable for 2 or 3 people. We had 1/4 fried chicken (breast & wing), collards, sweet potatoes and spoon bread (sweet cornbread soaked in honey butter).
