Where do I begin. We had a large group and our orders were promptly taken. Drinks were served in a mostly timely manner. However, it took over an hour for a single entree to brought to the table. We waited another 30 minutes or so for 5-6 others to receive their entrees. Another hour before the rest of the table to receive a dish but there were still missing dishes. Multiple times managers came to table to ask what was missing and were informed of missing orders. Other tables who arrived and ordered later could be observed receiving the same items we'd ordered. Other tables were seated, ordered and left while we waited for the second half of our table to be served. In the end most food was comped but there were still missing dishes. The waitress asked if would like these (hushpuppies and biscuits) to go and again waited another 30 minutes before being told that it would still take time for the food to be delivered. We ended up leaving without the to-go items. Deeply disappointed and will no longer recommend this establishment which had been a favorite of out of town visitors. Got take-out from here a while back, and honestly? The south does fried chicken different. Even packaged in a takeout box, the chicken is superior and delicious. We got chicken biscuit sandwiches and sides of hush puppies. That's the best combination you can get for a meal here -- and I still think of this meal a lot nowadays. We love the food here, but every single time we come to pick up carry‑out, we end up standing at the front of the restaurant for 15-20 minutes with no staff anywhere in sight. The front is just completely unattended. After waiting, we've even walked up to the bar to try to get someone's attention, and the bartender will still ignore us instead of checking on the order. This isn't a one‑off -- it's happened every visit. And we tip 25% on carry‑out, which makes it even more frustrating that no one seems to be monitoring the front or taking responsibility for guests walking in. If someone came in wanting a table, needed to pick up a lost item or just had a question, they would be standing there just as long with no acknowledgment. On top of that, the carry‑out orders are often wrong or the quality is off. When picking up food turns into a half‑hour ordeal every single time, it becomes a real deterrent from coming back, even though the food itself can be great. At this point, it feels like a management issue more than a busy‑restaurant issue. No one expects picture perfect service on a carry-out order, but it's just a real indicator of how the restaurant is run. read more

The restaurant is split into two levels the lower floors which is a mixture of tables, high tops and booths, we were put at a table. My server Quintez took my drink orders while I waited for the rest of my party to arrive. Once they arrived I ordered a hand chicken and got the greens and biscuits as my sides. The chicken was seasoned to perfection and didn't need the hot honey butter provided. The biscuits were fluffy, and the greens were almost as good as my mom's (she might read this)! Our waitress was wonderful as well, fully explained the menu, asked about food allergies, and checked on us frequently! Food did not disappoint! I was planning a Bourbon Trail/roadtrip to Cincinnati getaway and started with our first destination: Louisville. By the time I got to Cincinnati planning, I realized this place is actually FROM Cincinnati. It ended up working out though because our eating schedule up there was completely packed without trying to throw this into the mix. I made a rez for a Tuesday evening and it didn't seem like it was needed but it certainly was crowded. I know they have, supposedly, really good fried chicken but I'm a vegetarian so the main reason I wanted to come here was to sample Louisville's famous spoon bread. Our server was awesome, very nice and a pleasure to interact with during this meal. They have an interesting cocktail menu with a southern flair, bourbon certainly well represented. I can't remember what I was eyeing but GF ordered the highly recommended maple old fashioned which brought me back to when I had one of those at Poogan's Porch in Charleston. Look at me name dropping restaurants lmao. The maple old fashioned at this place is a little more mature than the one they serve at Poogan's, which is pretty much sweet tea. This was a little too bourbony for my taste and didn't enjoy it. GF, with a more sophisticated palate, liked hers and had no trouble taking over mine. The blackberry lemonade, with bourbon instead of the standard vodka, was more my speed. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and was served in a GIGANTIC glass. This is a great choice if you are a child like I am. I didn't have high hopes for many vegetarian options but I was extremely pleasantly surprised. The kale salad really appealed to me with apples, bourbon soaked raisins, cornbread croutons, sharp cheddar, and cider vinaigrette. It was fantastic, a really wonderful assortment of flavors and textures. GF ordered the 1/4 chicken which she reports was good, nice and juicy. We also ordered the white cheddar grits, horseradish mashed potatoes, and of course, the spoon bread. The grits were so flavorful with a nice kick of heat. The spoon bread was so good! It was sweeter than I was expecting but served as a nice little dessert. When asked about the mashed potatoes (have chicken gravy so I abstained), GF says "better than sex". I really like the eagle. I tend to order their chicken cutlets since I'm not a fan of bone in chicken. Everything I've had from here is delicious. Their greens are nice and vinegary which is a big plus to me. Chicken has never been dry and the breading is always crunchy. The cutlet is presliced as well. Which is nice, especially if you order carry out. I could bring it to a park to eat and not worry about making a mess trying to cut a chicken breast with plastic cutlery. read more

First strike.. was standing in the front awaiting someone to greet n seat us. Her first statement to us was "its my first day so I will TRY to give you great service"!...so let me give you the spill. My wife did some research and wanted her first meal in Louisville to be fried chicken. This restaurant is away from downtown, in a charming residential neighborhood. The ambience is cool and rustic, with great attention to details. The service is very fast and the manager checked on us twice. We ordered quarter chicken, dark meat. The fried chicken is lightly spiced, served with honey, very good and confusing at the same time for my California palate. The shrimp with grits is a total winner, with buttery smooth grits and spicy Cajun gravy. I loved the picked green beans as well. I just love all the surprising southern pickles. We tried the horseradish mashed potatoes this time which was good. Very little horseradish to detect which was a downside to me. The hosts always do a good job of acknowledging special occasions when they check you in but that communication never gets relayed to the server as it's not mentioned or celebrated at the table. Found this place on Yelp on our way from Orlando to 'up north'. Well worth the extra time off the highway! I had the fried chicken BLT ($13) and the shrimp and grits 'side' ($10). The sandwich was huge! Loaded w a beautifully fried chicken breast, bacon, avocado, fresh greens, and flavorful tomato slices. The S&G'S were a flavor bomb with 8 shrimp, sausage and 'NOLA' gravy. What lured us in was the grilled cheese with 3 cheeses, apricot jam and sliced apples ($8). My friend had that with a side of collards ($5). I had a local craft beer ($7) Service was friendly enough.
