Good, local spot with very nice staff. Easy parking and large menu variety - I would absolutely recommend this spot. Food was very good and ambience is cozy but not stuffy. Thanks for a great lunch!

Great food and service. Came on a snowy Saturday and was immediately seated. I called ahead and was pleased to hear they had space for my party of 4. We had the Apple cloud cakes, the regular cloud cakes, the chicken and waffle and the lamb burger. The food was really great. I would have preferred dark meat with the chicken and waffle but the breast was good and not dry. The lamb burger was excellent! The chicken sausage was not breakfast sausage, just regular sausage, and a large portion! The cloud cakes were also good. I do wish they chopped the apples up smaller. The seating is a tad bit tight? But not uncomfortable. 8/10 definitely recommend!

It had been a while since I last visited, but there was definitely a change in owners, with a newly designed interior, and menu. We came on a Sunday morning which was BUSY... typical of other brunch spots in this area. Disappointed that other customers were seated before us (party of 2), even though they say that they didn't take reservations. After about a 40 min wait, we were seated. - Chicken Pasta (3/5): was craving more of a "lunchy" food, so ordered pasta. A bit one dimensional in flavor and too rich. The chicken cost extra. Wish there was some acidity to the dish to cut through the cheese. Staff were kind enough to give me hot sauce to complement it. - California Burger (4.5/5): my friend ordered this one, and she enjoyed it. She loved the fresh avocado and the side salad A good staple in the Edison area- just be careful of the long wait and the breakfast foods look promising. Ty for reading :^)

Hard to say no to this place. Really good. The food menu is generous, with plenty of options to choose from. Everything is done very nicel, the presentation is great, and everything feels clean and well kept. The space itself is nice and roomy, with plenty of tables. The staff is friendly, and the wait time was quick. I had a sandwich as well as the omelette. The cappuccino was great, and so was the cortado. I recommend this place many times over. Great spot for breakfast or brunch.

First time to this cafe .. seriously - from outside it doesn't look like a cafe . I thought it was a car mechanic shop i would say it's a hidden gem . Good location . Right on oak tree . Lots of parking outside . The cafe looked very interesting and. Ice ambience . Coffee tables looked very good for chitchats with friends and families . It's a bit pricey though. Ordered Nashville style burgers for about 20$ !!!! Food was awesome though ... burger was really well made and crispy . Spice level was perfect . Fries were good too ! We also ordered Bombay sandwiches and it tasted good . Bean rice salad was ok. Looked healthy .. price wise everything was expensive than normal pricing outside . Service was good . Space was a little constrained inside . Tables were close to each other and it was a noisy restaurant.. good experience overall .. 4 stars

We stopped by Edison Automat for a late Sunday breakfast and couldn't have asked for a better experience. The ambience was relaxed, perfect for a chill afternoon meal. We tried the Smoky Tom Omelette and the Bombay Masala Omelette, and both were absolutely delicious. To drink, we had a regular coffee and an iced vanilla latte--both were excellent. Service was warm and efficient, rounding out a great experience.

Popular brunch cafe spot located in Edison with indoor and outdoor seating. From a menu ranging from American to Indian fusion food options, enjoyed the simple, classic Bombay veg sandwiches and Nescafé coffee (sweetener sits at the bottom, don't repeat my mistake and stir before drinking). The chips are not worth it but the fries are delicious. Only wish the service was a little better - while there is staff visible, only one server went table to table taking orders - making it a bit of a wait.

Everything has changed. New owners but it's not the same. They used to make the best London Fog. They brewed their own to make it. Now it's awful. They had a chicken bruschetta sandwich. That's gone. Might as well change the name because it isn't the same.

Great place to do work and to to have a chill lunch. They have good WiFi and outlets. The food was amazing. The servers were very attentive and the food came out quickly. I recommend their grilled sandwiches. I tried the lavender matcha. It was okay, I had to pay for a side shot of vanilla to make it sweet. The owner was there the day I went and was very welcoming.

Went here today for the first time. Had great expectations but I was wrong the food wasn't good at all. The pancakes were so heavy and thick. Not fluffy at all. Didn't want to eat anything else after that. Felt super full and I regretted eating them. Also we waited almost an hour to seat and then waited another hour to get our food. I would never go here again. read more

I've had the Cali breakfast sandwich, veggie omelette, quinoa breakfast bowl, granola parfait, buttermilk cloud cakes, almond crusted French toast, chocolate iced latte, London fog tea & the tofu scramble. All the food is amazing, the restaurant is clean with an industrial Art Deco-ish decor. Really pleasing to the eye without being stuffy. Outdoor seating is available. Lots of parking and so many food options. I definitely need to go back for lunch and try out some of their incredible looking desserts too! read more

Of course this is not a automat. The food is amazing with lots of healthy options. We loved the ambient. It is in the same building with another restaurant so don't get confused. We almost went to the other restaurant. Weekend morning can be a little busy but their service staffs were really good. I highly recommend this place. read more

The location is nice and quiet. The outdoor dinning seats are in a peaceful space and, yet the solidarity this place provides for a lone patron does not make up for the lack of flavor. The plate looked amazing; the order was a steak-n-egg sandwich with the guts plated instead of between bread. I also received a side of home fries that were very vibrant and yet still bland. The service provided was cool. The employees are pleasant and the bathroom is nicer than most apartments in Bayonne, NJ. Feng-shui does not taste good. read more

The food and the prices are okay. But the service for dining in was terrible! Everything was taking forever, and they were not that busy. We had to wait for them to take the order, wait a long time for the food to be delivered and wait even longer for them to bring a box so we could leave. Maybe they are better at doing take out. And it wasn't the cleaner place either, there was some random flour on my plate! read more

Great place for breakfast. They have great gourmet coffee, but their real prize is their food. I always order their breakfast food and am never disappointed. They have great options, and if you're ever in a rush...their almond crossaint is sooooo yummy read more

I would give 0 stars if possible. This used to be one of my favorite breakfast places but the new ownership is evident and atrocious. Four of us ordered breakfast and coffees, two coffees were fine, two were awful and tasted as if it were burnt. The two bad cups were sent back and we asked for two new ones. Before the second round came back the waitress was sent back to tell us that we should know the lattes have two shots of espresso, which we did know. They also said that they tasted different because they had oat milk and almond milk when we have ordered like that many times before and had 0 issues with the taste. Keep in mind the other two lattes were fine. The second cups came to the table and were again awful. The waitress came back and we asked for them to just be taken off the bill since we couldn't drink them. The waitress brought over the barista who was extremely rude and quite frankly shouldn't work in customer service. She told us that even though we did not drink the coffees that she wouldn't take them off the bill and that they were fine. She argued with us saying they would make another round of coffees but refused to simply take them off the bill. She kept insisting the coffee was fine, gave us an attitude, and fought with us saying she would make another round but REFUSED to just take them off the bill. Keep in mind NONE of the drinks sent back had more than one sip taken from them. The barista took our complaints over $5 coffees as a personal attack and fought about it in the middle of the restaurant. I'm so disappointed and let down by the way the staff treats customers now and will not be returning. Truly a shame that a place people love is going down the drain because of new ownership that don't know how to make coffee or treat customers. read more

The wait is well worth it!! Went to Urban Griddle and decided not to stay for the 2.5 hour wait. Drove 30 minutes to Edison Automat and it was worth it...very clean, quick seating (20 minutes approximately)...food was fresh, service was great and the place is clean...it does get crowded because there is limited seating...we built our own omelets and also ordered the almond french toast read more

I loved this lunch place, good food, friendly servers. However, I have noticed recently that they add small charges for the smallest changes to an order ie: $1.50 extra charge for NO ICE in a soft drink. I've heard similar things. That's pretty ridiculous. Good food, good lunch, just keep an eye on the bill. read more

What an awesome spot! It was my first time here and I loved the friendly staff, Edison style decor and definitely the food options. I had a chai tea latte that was a little light but delicious and a perfect yogurt granola and fruit parfait that was perfect. Also took a couple sandwiches to go for later and they were so good! They were the ham, Brie and fig sandwich and the grilled chicken, smoked Gouda and bacon sandwich. Definitely coming back! read more

So glad this place opened up in Edison!! I came here for lunch on a Saturday, brought the quinoa salad bowel and the hazelnut latte. Both were so delicious. Definitely coming back here. Also a great place to study but it can get pretty crowded and loud. The hours are 7am-4pm mon- sat and Sunday 7am- 2pm. Wish they open for longer hours. read more

Got their light roast drip coffee and the tequila sunrise breakfast sandwich ~ didn't think of combining these flavors together, but looked interesting on paper "rosemary, jalapeno, apple wood smoked bacon" -- it's so good! Fluffy eggs, the sauce oozing -- on point! read more

Tried the hot ham sandwich and the chicken salad sandwich. The hot ham sandwich is very good and comes with piled ham on nice toasted bread. It also comes with a sweeter tone which I believe was fig jam (I may be misremembering) which provided a nice balance to the hot ham. The chicken salad was very good. Big chunks of chicken and there wasn't an excess of mayo. It was light and refreshing with quality ingredients. They have a variety of other options on their menu which all look good. I'll definitely be returning- this is a nice spot for Edison. They do a lot of business so be prepared as you may have to wait. read more

My drink was a tad too sweet (too much pistachio syrup), but I still liked it. Mozzarella sticks were fine. I paid about $21 for everything including tip. I like the be kind messages on the cups and the black aesthetic was pretty cool. I wouldn't mind returning to this coffee shop as it was a pleasant drive from my house. I'd like to try some other pastries and definitely will have another matcha, but will request light on the syrup!

This place is for sure not your typical cafe, and it's really geared for short stays. It's beautiful j side and I would definitely recommend it here whenever you are in the Edison or Metuchen area.

It was at night on a Saturday so many of the shelves were empty but they still had a few things left. Sunmerry appears to be a chain but one that I have never visited before until now so I can't really comment on what they have, but I did manage to grab: MATCHA CLOUD DONUT - This reminded me vaguely of the im donut donuts I tried in NYC. Very soft and pillowy and filled to the brim with a lightly sweet, matcha filling. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about this. RED BEAN MATCHA BAGEL - it's a matcha dough with red bean filling BUT the filling doesn't go all the way around. It goes maybe 65% so if you're splitting this with someone like I did, fingers crossed you both get a decent amount. The bagel was soft and in a bagel shape but it lacked the chew of a bagel. The filling was nice and different but the matcha taste was subtle - if that. Overall, liked the idea, but I wanted more of a bagel chew than what I got and to taste the matcha better. Maybe even have a more even share of the red bean. COFFEE BRIOCHE LOAF - my husband liked this one! Which is good because I got it for him. This is quite good. Soft, lightly sweet with a coffee top. We ate this maybe 12 hours after and much of the top layer had "melted" and gotten on the cellophane but it was still delicious. Perfection. I definitely scraped off the coffee bits from the cellophane so it didn't go to waste. PINEAPPLE BUN W/ MILK - I grabbed this one thinking there was a filling inside and there wasn't. I don't know if the bun was placed in the wrong location or the name is telling me the bun isn't vegan but it's a good pineapple bun but without anything inside, it was a tad dry. Maybe it needs a pat of butter like they do in HK. MELON PAN - I haven't had this in a good long while so I got it for fun. It's smaller than the pineapple bun and the topping is a little sweeter - I remember crunching on sugar crystals. It's not bad but also not filled so it's a tiny bit on the dry side. The place has tables to the side where you can enjoy your goodies. I didn't stay too long but they definitely serve drinks and delicious cakes as well. The staff were nice and the place seemed on the dim side. Fingers crossed I can go back during the day to get a better idea of what they have! In the meantime, this is a good place for an Asian bakery fix. They do list out ingredients under the names of their baked goods so that's awesome! From what I could see, their baked goodies are likely not vegan or gluten-free friendly, though...

However the Chicken Katsu came with a bbq type sauce and everyone thought the sauce was delicious. My fiance ordered the bbq mix which included the bbq chicken, beef, and short ribs and I thought the beef was so yummy. The portion size was big. All the combos come with either 1-2 scoops of rice and macaroni salad. My meal was pretty perfect for 2 whole meals for me. I ate the katsu with my leftover rice for breakfast the next morning! This dessert shop offers authentic Taiwanese treats featuring grass jelly, tofu pudding, taro mochi balls, red bean soup, and the aforementioned shaved ice, along with egg waffles, various teas and other beverages. The limited edition summer osmanthus series caught my eye, so I went for an osmanthus milk shaved ice, infused with condensed sweetened milk and osmanthus syrup, a cloud of almond tofu pudding on top, with mochi balls, red beans, and lychee jelly tucked around the base. The flavor of the cool fluffy shaved ice is subtly sweet, lightly creamy, with just a hint of floral, and the snow melts on your tongue. The osmanthus flavor is not very strong or fragrant, however, though I've never had successful encounters with commercial osmanthus-flavored things outside of Asia, as it's a very distinctive and delicate taste that's also one of my favorite scents and culinary condiments, so I'm very particular about its faithfulness. We ordered a large since it's only $1 more than the medium, so practically begs one to order the oversized version, which is enough for 2+ people to share. But why so enormous? How about offering a personal sized one for a little less? Premium as the ingredients are, $18 feels like a lot for shaved ice. Between us two adults and one small child we couldn't finish it, but I double dog dare you to try. It was good though, and satiated my craving for a proper milk snow dessert.

We are always on the hunt for a great breakfast spot for the weekends. My wife and I get limited time together during the week so we like to hang out and eat places that are comfortable and delicious. The Automat is our new favorite spot. It is by far the best breakfast place we have found in the Tri-State. The food is beyond anything we have had in New York and blows away anything we have found in New Jersey. The vibe is modern & clean rustic. Reclaimed wood and art (throwback ads for classic brands in clean frames) make for a fun experience. The service is tops. We are very health conscious when it comes to eating and the Edison Automat checks all the boxes. The owner came over and had a quick chat with us just after our food arrived. Super friendly and seems excited about his business. Class act and we are stoked to support this amazing place. Don't hesitate, go enjoy the amazing food and atmosphere. read more

Went to breakfast for my nieces birthday very cute place a gentleman greeted us , sat us & was very nice ... food was good! Service not great at all, waited for our second cup of coffee asked twice and they finally said oh it's brewing no apologies, meanwhile now we already finished our breakfast and coffee finally comes out . We get our check and surprisingly they charge for refills ! Then to top it all off the owner comes over and asks us if we are gonna be much longer cause he had people waiting to sit ! Mind you we weren't long at all and if it wasn't for us waiting for our second cup of coffee & if service was more efficient we would have been out sooner! Just thought that was kind of rude!! The Edison Automat is the best "go to" place for breakfast & lunch. The food is fresh & delicious. The owners & staff are very friendly & helpful. The whole vibe is Brooklyn coffeehouse but with a spacious NJ dynamic. The decor is charming. Prices reasonable & the coffee is delish! Food wise: my friend had the tequila sunrise breakfast sandwich & still raves about it. I've had the cali breakfast sandwich & would eat it everyday if I could. The yogurt parfait was awesome. The food here was great. I really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. I had a cappuccino with oat milk and an almond croissant. I was so surprised at how tasty it was. The staff was nice nothing extraordinary but they were attentive and friendly. My husband got one of the sandwiches here and he absolutely loved it. Edison Automat Cafe is such a hidden gem! The ambiance is cozy and modern, making it a great place to hang out. Service was excellent--friendly and attentive. We tried the Chicken Bruschetta, Hot Chocolate, Pina Colada, and a Latte, and everything was delicious. The drinks were perfectly made, and the food was fresh and flavorful.
