The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was very inviting from the moment we arrived. I ordered the butter chicken, which was incredible--full of flavor and perfectly prepared. My partner had the lamb kabobs, which were very good, though slightly chewy given the temperature they were cooked to; this was not a fault of the restaurant, just a personal preference. The music selection was old-school hip hop, which added an amazing, cool vibe to the space. After dinner, we were able to sit and work on our laptops without any interruptions, which was a huge plus. It was confusing when we walked in as this was my first time here. We were greeted by someone after walking in looking lost. They had open seating. Our server was super sweet. They offer bottled water $2.50. There's an automatic gratuity. The food was well seasoned. I would recommend being able to substitute the chicken tenders for cauliflower bites as an option. Other than that, it was great. There are plenty of vegetarian options and a few vegan options. They also have a rooftop with plenty of seating. read more

need to make this crystal clear: last night was one of the most unsafe, reckless experiences I've ever had at a venue. A man got into the Egyptian Room with a gun. He brandished it inside and outside the venue, pointing it toward people and even toward the glass. This is not hearsay--I saw it happen. There was a security guard at the door who is supposed to be checking bags and patting people down, yet somehow this man made it through with a firearm. When I reported it to security, instead of taking action, the guard blamed me. He said I "escalated the situation" by telling on the man. They never called the police. They didn't shut things down. They carried on business as usual as if nothing happened. This is exactly how mass shootings happen--when venues prioritize convenience and ticket sales over basic gun safety and accountability. Egyptian Room put hundreds of lives at risk by failing to enforce security and by silencing the people who tried to do the right thing. Until management takes real responsibility and implements proper safety measures, I would strongly urge anyone to think twice before stepping foot in this venue. read more

This is the oddest hookah bar I have ever been to in my life. My friend and I got there before midnight and there were only 3-4 other small groups. Not busy at all. We sat somewhere, then they tell is we have to move which was odd. We moved and sat there waiting for service. We were probably there 10 min before the door guy got a server to talk to us. We asked the server for cups of ice water with the hookah and beer, and she said they can only do bottle water because if it gets busy, it will take up too much time filling up water cups. Wow. Super lazy. I've been a server and if you cant handle getting water, even when busy, you need a different job. Then she brings the hookah and just plops the hose and mouthpieces down. She didn't set it up or ask if we had questions or anything. She also said she just got called in and doesn't know what's going on. Very odd. The energy here was weird. The customer service was awful due to the server not caring about her job or customer retention at all. The only decent beer available was stella since the one I wanted wasn't available. I am actually shocked people go here. Buy your own hookah and have a party at your place or even on a sidewalk- it will be more enjoyable than this place. It was such a waste of time and money. Decided to give this place a try even though we weren't trying the hookah. Our server was very friendly. We tried the wings with the Egyptian rub and also shared a mixed kebob plate and some butter chicken. The food was amazingly delicious. I tried a cup of the Turkish coffee which was really good. Horrible experience. The hookah was GARBAGE and same with the drink. THE WHOLE PLACE SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. Not even Egyptian to be falsely advertising the culture. They literally have the worse clay heads which are the flat ones with 0 depth so they stuff the flavor making it burn before you even smoke it. I've been to the old location many times, the last time about 3 years ago. I live in Florida and after my initial visit, which I enjoyed, I was making it a ritual stop. In the past I went there just for food and ate outside because of the toxic interior air. I do understand it's a Hookah Bar. Anyway, my previous visits always consisted of a hamburger with their rice. On my intial visits the plate was usually garnished with cucumber and such making the it's artistic presentation very appealing. It was done nicely. I left a very lengthy positive review. Also, I always requested water with my food as I rarely drink alcohol or sodas. I like water with my meal and was accomodated each time. This visit, AFTER receiving my meal, which lacked the visual flair of previous visits (plate was not garnished aside from an olive on top of the rice, bun was somewhat smashed), I asked an employee for a glass of water. She was not my server. She responded, "Is bottled ok?". I said no, a plain glass of water is fine. She then tells me that after 7, they only serve bottled water. I responded, that with food water is something that generally comes with a meal. If for nothing else to prevent someone from choking. She said she'd send my server over. I waited a while before my server, who had initially been extremely nice, made her way over to me where I was seated at the end of the bar. I actually had to motion for her. Upon arrival she seemed to know what my concerns were. She said that's the rules of the store. I said, this is a restaurant and not a store A restaurant where you serve food. I also told her I'm 63 yrs old and have never been to a restaurant that serves food where water wasn't provided with the meal. She told me that they're only required to have water, it doesn't have to be free. (That's something that the Food and Beverage Administration in the area needs to be made aware of and concerns of that policy.) Then of course the 18% tip is included.....which is something that is usually reserved for large groups. Of course, adding bottles of water increases the tip margin. This actually can work against the servers, because personally I usually tip higher. However, after the attempt to upsell me, whether it's the servers or the establishment, where in the event that if I want water with my meal ... I'm being required to purchase it, I wasn't going to bother figuring out what would have brought me up to the tip I would have left. So, I guess if you're choking on a piece of food, they're going to crack open a bottle of water and later charge you for it OR watch you choke to death in their restaurant. PREVENTION is the main reason restaurants provide water with a meal. Needless to say, I will no longer be suggesting to my friends to go there when in Indianapolis. I definitely will not be going out of my way eat there anymore at all. The food was good but lacked the pride I had been accustomed to in the past and definitely not good enough to be forced into buying water if you want some with your meal. That's something that any restaurant I have ever been to provides. Disappointing Experience at the Egyptian Cafe and Hookah I was deeply disappointed by the Gentelman at the door poor understanding and. implementation of the "Tobacco 21" law in Indianapolis. Despite the law clearly stating that individuals appearing to be under 30 years old for an ID challenge. The Gentelman at this place insisted that it's the establishment policy to check everyone's physical ID regardless of how old they look. This is what we call in Egypt حافظ مش فاهم. when I raised my concerns with the Gentelman (because I am clearly in my 50s) , the gentleman brushed off my comments with a dismissive attitude, showing a lack of accountability and responsibility. It's evident that the Gentelman at the door was more interested in hanging out with the under age looking ladies at the Table near the door over compliance with legal requirements and customer safety. I understand that laws are strict and that establishment can be fined if they do not adhere. But the laws don't require you to be a complete dumbass. Some degree of common sense is required when you work in the customer service industry. We drove a long time to visit this establishment, and support it given that I am Egyptian. I certainty hope that this is not actually the establishment policy to check every individual's ID regardless of clearly appearing to be way over 30. I sure hope this gentleman just didn't like the way we looked and was exhibiting a form of bigotry or racism of sort. I sure hope that this place have someone with some intelligence. read more

I have a personal tradition that I try the hookah in every city I visit. This time I decide to try this place for hookah, and as a bit of a hookah snob, I have to say the place was okay for hookah. The service was really great, people seemed really cool, and I have to say I really enjoyed the Pizza Gyro the most. It had all my favorite ingredients on it, beef shawarma meat, klamata olives, and jalapeño. I would try another hookah place in the future, but would come here again for that Pizza Gyro. read more

I met some ladies out at The Egyptian around 3ish that afternoon. Parking wise you can park at Parking lot next to establishment, or pay for street parking. It was my first time actually going to The Egyptian during the day time which is a total different atmosphere at night. Walking in the building there are few stairs, and if you're unable to walk the stairs there are seats in first level. The ladies & I sat on the second floor, just a few steps down from the first floor, we were in the middle by the bar. I ordered a cheeseburger(ketchup, onions, & tomatoes) ,fries, and then I had a delicious Hennessey margarita. The ladies & I did split the hookah, out Server was Kipp, and he was a sweet Server, good personality. Overall, I definitely enjoyed going to The Egyptian Cafe & Hookah bar during daytime so chilled out, and my type of vibe. I'm glad I did try the delicious cauliflower bites which I was very skeptical at first, but will definitely try again. However, the receipt paper ink was so bad hard to read that I didn't know The Egyptian automatically add in the 18% gratuity that I gave the Server an additional tip 20%. Ambiance was excellent. Food was good, Hookah was superb. Had a strange service experience. We wanted to move to a seat with a better TV view. Despite the seats being fairly open, permission from our server, we were not permitted to do so. We were asked to move from our seats so they could set up for a music event. The seats that we'd requested 20 minutes prior were still open, and we were still denied those seats, despite plenty of open seating available. We ended up leaving prematurely with a poor service experience. That was a shame as our first server was wonderful and the restaurant was otherwise fantastic. Haven't been here in quite sometime so decided to stop in on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Walked in and it was such a chill crowd. Several people there were solo on their laptops enjoying their Hooka, there were a couple couples talking quietly. The music was great and service was good as well. They have a nice cocktail menu and expansive food menu. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about Hooka and recommended a flavor (capris sun) which was amazing. Around 4:30 the crowd seems to change drastically. Half clothed women entered and talked very loudly as though they were the only ones there. The vibe went from chill relaxing to annoying in just the matter of a few hours. Of course no fault of the business but it's not the crowd I was looking for, especially on a Sunday afternoon. My second experience here was better than the first. From what I can tell, they only staff the place with one server on Saturday afternoons. It slows down service and seems to wear on the guy's disposition. The poor service really dampens what may otherwise be a more pleasant experience. I don't smoke hookah but many of my friends do, and they seem to enjoy the flavors served here. While they're known for hookah, the food is also quite popular. I was introduced to the Kenyan chai tea by a friend and now I order it whenever I go. The tea is served with mint and honey on the side. They use an interesting spice blend in the batter for their fried mozzarella sticks. I haven't ordered any myself, but I always hear great things about the kebab platters. read more

It was not great place or experience. The tables were dirty and had plates n cups and when asked the people if they can clean it, they directly refused. Basically said to find another table. It was over 25 min and nobody had come it. We went up to the bar to order they said "you have to wait for your turn" and said can't give you anything until she takes other peoples order and it will be another 20-25 min. We ordered two chicken Phillies with fries. Now before we ordered we walked in and went to where you put your orders in. I had to update my review after frequently visiting this hookah bar. You have to try the Egyptian fries, they are amazing. I often get the chicken shawarma over pesto hummus, which is full of flavor and my favorite item on the menu. They have a cocktail menu, however, they always have a drink special. On Monday nights they have a DJ that plays older Hip Hop & R&B, for sure one of my favorite nights to come. Hookah bar, the staff is not kind or patient as they want their guests to be. A sign outside in the cold that says wait to be seated with no employees outside. The coordination for that needs improvement. Went inside to see if maybe the sign was a mistake, walked back to the bar before I found an employee. The guy that walked out wasn't pleasant when I asked if there was a long wait list or who we should be waiting for at the door. He would barely allow me to ask my question, just continuously fussed that we shouldn't have walked by security. There was none. There was a couple that invited us to their table because they experienced waiting a while before being seated. They had guests that left due to the service and the waiter had not cleared any trash from their table. My cousins and I waited outside for about an hour while the bouncer let all his friends in... once we saw a few tables freed up, we still had to wait for "the server to get back from her break," which took another 30 minutes. I love the chill atmosphere they try to provide, it's very relaxing, accommodative, and their lounge chairs are inviting and help to get everyone in a serene and conversational mindset. My girlfriend and I are here at least once a week and we look forward to coming each time. We've grown close with a lot of the servers. In three years, we have yet to experience bad service, I can definitely attest to their commitment to consistently providing terrific service. Foods that I would recommend: The Chicken Tender Basket tends to be go-to for a lot of people, it's a sizable portion for a low price, I prefer to have with the crispy fries, the thick fries tend to not have as much seasoning. I would also recommend their Gyro, which is enormous, comes with a variety of ingredients and I usually can't finish it in one sitting. Recently I tried their Philly Cheesesteak - the best I've had so far. Perfectly seasoned and the bread is quality. Hooka recommendation: We've tried just about every flavor, now we just ask for suggested house flavors from our server whenever we go. But if you like fruity or semi-fruity flavors, these may appease you: Eshta, Pharaoh, Starburst, Watermelon Freeze and we recently tried the guava, peach, and berry blend, we thought it wonderful. read more

We were nearing the end of our night, starting to drag our feet, and in need of a nice chill session. Then, out of the blue, we stumbled upon the Egyptian Cafe. Like an oasis in the desert, this sweet haven revealed itself to us in our time of need. I will absolutely be coming back. I have zero complaints about any aspect of the Egyptian Cafe. The staff was extremely nice and very cool. I wanted to invite our waiter to sit and hang out with us. We accidentally spilled a very large volume of water, and our waiter practically dove on the spill to clean it up before we even had a chance to lift a finger. There was also a fight outside, and the staff stood by the door and warned the patrons to make sure we were all kept out of harms way. I felt like I was taken care of very well the entire time. We tried the mixed fruit hookah and it was perfect. I really enjoyed it and we passed the hookah around for around 2 hours. It was also very inexpensive! There was a situation where some rude customers left after they had ordered food, without paying, and we offered to take their food and pay for it. We got a hummus sample platter of appetizers and it was superb! It was such a pleasant turn of events. We got a discount for absorbing the potentially revenue loss (there goes the staff being nice again). I would order that platter time and time again.
