First it is important to know that this is a very unique and niche bar, so if you are offended by horror, pentagrams, and satan decor then this might not be the spot for you. My partner and I stopped in here for drinks on a Sunday afternoon. It is a very small space so the timing was right for us and there was plenty of seating. "Satan's Satanic Satanist" was the shareable cocktail that we selected at The Electric Cure tiki bar in Edgewater last night. Eclectic occult decor oozes throughout. Around 6pm, it was pretty easy to find a table, but the small space filled quickly. The prices are very high; one pays for the pyrotechnic experience and kitschy ambience. This is a fun place to take out of town guests. Bring your own metal straws, if you detest paper straws as much as I do. Free diagonal street parking is a huge plus. This location makes up a part of the unholy trinity of similar bars that include "Hell or High Water" and "Honor Farm" both located in LoDo. read more

I was charged $44 for 4 green tea shots that were horribly executed. The staff took over 15 minutes to complete my order from start to finish when I was the only person ordering at the bar. One of the employees, I think he was a manager, heckled me "in a friendly manner" for at least 5 minutes before deciding to tell one of his staff members that I would like to order. Despite advertizing itself as one, this isn't a tiki bar. It has some tiki standards on the menu, but other than that, there's nothing "tiki" about it. It's decor is dive-bar meets Rocky Horror vibe, which can be fun it's own way, but not when it advertizes itself as a tiki bar. Luckily their other location downtown is much better for that vibe. I might be willing to forgive all that if then tiki cocktails was amazing: unfortunately, they're not. I've had probably hundreds of mai tais from Florida to Hawaii, and the one I had here was easily the worst I've ever had. On top of that, I waited almost 30 mins for it because their staff kept talking with each other rather than concentrating on bartending. They entirely ignored us for almost 30 minutes which was fine. We were patient and just hung out. I had to interrupt a bartender that was in their tenth personal conversation to place an order of four drinks. She made two and disappeared in the kitchen hugging and talking to people. We asked another bartender to complete the order which he did begrudgingly. We tried to get another round with five people working behind the bar, but I couldn't even get one can of beer. Well, I absolutely love the idea of a tiki bar in Edgewater with a long list of tiki style cocktails, so we needed to check this place out. First and foremost, I have seen public restrooms that were much larger and cleaner than this establishment... there is barely enough room for a small bar and a few tables... I think you could maybe fit 30 people comfortably in this place, and it had considerably more than that. Whole place reeked of BO, weed, and pee. Second, they were playing hip hop and old skool gangsta rap all night... in a tiki bar? Certainly not the vibe I was expecting. Decided to play it safe and order a basic Mai Tai. I have had over 50 variations of the Mai Tai, you can get as creative as you want there, very difficult cocktail to ruin... but somehow they managed. They started with a "secret house rum blend" poured from an opaque plastic jug... it was bottom shelf well rums. Then they added so much bitters and spice I couldn't even taste any fruit juice... zero citrus notes at all... but they added a sprig of peppermint the greasy bartender repeatedly slapped against his bare arm before rubbing around the rim... peppermint... in a Mai Tai? It was undrinkable swill... but it was also expensive with the 20% mandatory gratuity... so I managed to choke it down. Needed to get that foul taste out of my mouth so I randomly selected their "Dolce & Banana" cocktail... and surprisingly that was excellent... you should definitely try that. No food available... not even a bag of crisps on a pegboard... but considering the varied sanitary issues that was probably for the best. Word of warning: you absolutely CANNOT go East on 25th to get back to Sheridan! There is a do not enter sign and a small plastic barrier there for no apparent reason at all... then we saw the Edgwater Police parked right there on 25th pulling over everyone who went out that way. BS barrier only exists for them to write tickets... do not be tricked. Crowd was mixed... looked mostly like locals who walked there... and I was the only guy in the place wearing a Hawaiian shirt... bartenders both were in T shirts. Definitely NOT a "tiki bar" even if they want to pretend and play make believe. Will not be back. read more

I don't usually write Yelp reviews but I make an exception for things and places that are truly unique and delightful. The Electric Cure definitely qualifies! Their hilarious, weird decor alone lets you know when you walk in that it's something special (Jeff Goldblum on black velvet! Dr. Steve Brule! Make a game of finding all the hidden dicks!) but it's way more than just a gimmick. The people behind this truly love what they do and it shows (they blow the overhyped Adrift out of the water IMHO). They don't make drinks so much as works of art, elevating Tiki drinks into something really fantastic. These drinks involve (but are not limited to) tableside spurts of fire, smoke bubbles and optional "spanks of mint" (I'd say more but I don't want to ruin the surprise). They are incredibly fun and creative but, most importantly, 1000% delicious! I heartily recommend Satan's Satanic Satanists, Dolce & Banana and my personal favorite Life, Uh, Finds A Way but, if you don't have a sweet tooth or love rum like me, there's also Bourbon, Fernet and Mezcal options that are quite tasty and unique. They also have beer and a regular full bar if you really wanna go to a bar like this and not order the crazily cool concoctions available but I recommend treating yourself. Yes, it will take some time for them to craft these creative drinks and you will need to actually pay attention to the sign stating to order at the end of the bar (stay salty, people who can't read or appreciate that good things take time), and yes, it is a smaller bar with no food options but trust me, it's worth the wait and the price. If you're hungry before or after, there's a lot of really good restaurants in the area - definitely check out the nearby Edgewater Public Market if you want something to eat, they've got a lot of delicious stuff. The extremely talented bartenders are all friendly and fun-loving if you're not a jerk. Yes, there's a tip already included on each bill, but for the work they do (which again, involves *literal freaking fire*), they earn every penny and more! Plus, great events like drag queen bingo, horror trivia, shark attacks and Satanic Masses might take place when you visit if you're lucky (the drag queen bingo on Sundays does cost extra to attend but that's the cost of paying to be entertained)! Anyways, tl;dr - The Electric Cure is uniquely awesome with mindblowing drinks. Enjoy every minute you get to bask in it's funky, fantastic presence! read more

Life Uh Finds a Way was my fav, though added a little mint from another friend's drink to it. They warn you that the unique and interesting drinks will take a while, but one sadness is that, above and beyond that, our female bartender took an incredibly long time talking to 2 other guys she knew coming in and didn't even pretend to pay attention to making our second and third drinks for a bit or, more importantly, tell us what was going on; a guy behind the bar eventually did, which was great. Also, it's not just the cocktail, but the overall feel and ambiance that should match and accent the cocktail perfectly. This is a delicate art form and takes nuance and wisdom to get right.
