Rosanna's -- A Genuine Gem That Deserves Every Star There…read moreare restaurants you visit and forget, and then there are restaurants that stay with you long after the last bite. Rosanna's is firmly in the second category -- and after an exceptional dinner that left both of us completely satisfied and already planning our return visit, I cannot recommend this place highly enough. From the moment we walked in, the ambience set the tone for the entire evening. Warm, inviting and thoughtfully designed, Rosanna's strikes that rare balance between intimate and lively -- the kind of space that feels equally suited for a romantic dinner for two or a celebratory night out with people you love. The lighting is soft without being dim, the energy is buzzing without being overwhelming, and every detail of the room communicates that this is a place that genuinely cares about the experience it creates for its guests. The service matched the atmosphere perfectly. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable and genuinely enthusiastic about the menu -- not in a rehearsed, corporate way but in the way that only happens when staff actually love where they work and believe in what they're serving. Questions were answered with confidence and warmth, dietary considerations were handled graciously and without any fuss, and the pacing of the meal felt exactly right. Not rushed, not forgotten -- just perfectly timed. It is the kind of service that makes you feel like a valued guest rather than just another table to turn over. Now the food -- where do we even begin. We started with the Shrimp Balls and they were an immediate knockout. Perfectly seasoned, beautifully presented and gone far too quickly. The arugula dip alongside them was bright and fresh -- a genuinely clever pairing that elevated what could have been a simple appetizer into something memorable. This dish alone would be worth coming back for. For mains we ordered the Wild Mushroom Risotto -- elevated with a grilled shrimp skewer addition that turned an already outstanding dish into a complete and deeply satisfying meal. The risotto was everything a great risotto should be -- creamy without being heavy, deeply savory with layers of earthy mushroom flavor, finished beautifully with truffled pecorino that added just the right amount of richness. The shrimp skewer on top was perfectly grilled, plump and fresh -- a brilliant pairing with the earthiness of the mushrooms. Our dining companion ordered the Boneless Beef Short Ribs which arrived tender, deeply flavorful and beautifully plated -- the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes on the first bite. What makes Rosanna's truly special is that everything works together -- the room, the service, the food and the overall feeling of being genuinely well taken care of. This is not a restaurant that relies on one strong element to carry the others. Every component earns its place. Whether you are celebrating something special, treating someone you love or simply in search of a great dinner in wonderful company -- Rosanna's delivers on every level. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation. You will not regret it. And the pellegrino soda was great I got the blood orange! And we took the olive oil orange cake to go yum!

The cuisine was Italian inspired, and heavy on vegan and gluten free option, which is a great find locally, if you're looking for that. We were sat upstairs and I enjoy the ambiance here. I will note that the chairs are uncomfortable, which does not make a cozy dining experience. The cocktail menu was really great, a lot of gin options which is right up my alley. I had the Corpse Reviver and a glass of wine, both were great. We started with the shrimp balls, which sounded intriguing. They ended up being delightful, almost like loose crab cakes. The flavors were great and I loved the pesto. For my entree, I opted for the lemon mushroom tagliatelle. The pasta was very fresh and chewy, loved that. I enjoyed the combination of lemon and mushroom on the dish, but there were so many different mushrooms of all different textures, that some bites were more enjoyable than others. The snapper puttanesca was gorgeous as well. Overall it was a good meal, but I might have liked it a little more before the change. Definitely a great option if you are looking for dietary restrictions.

That said, I think it's totally fair to bring a restaurant's wine list into the conversation when talking about a place where "Tapas" is in the name of the business itself. While I have nothing against a short wine list, there was only one Spanish wine on the list of whites. There are were two on the reds. With prices hovering around $30 a bottle, the wines were modestly priced. However, none of the vintages were included on the list, which made me concerned. But when our bottle of Albariño arrived, it was thankfully a current vintage. I've never had a waiter cast doubt on my wine selection before, so that was new to me. He thought we might be happier with a red. However, he wasn't privy to the food we were going to order. White was definitely the right call for the night. We were there as the first snow of the season began to fall. So maybe that's why the place was understaffed. The news really likes to hype up snow fall. Perhaps the best thing we ordered was the guacamole, which was billed as being prepared at the table. However, last Thursday ours was not. The waiter did make a display of chopping at the bowl with the serving spoon as he walked it over to our table. But that's not quite the same thing. Still, that was the best thing we had to eat that night. The company was great, and I actually enjoyed the more relaxed pacing of the meal. Although my suggestion to the waiter about the order in which we would like to food to arrive was rebuffed. He told us, to let him know what we wanted to eat, and he'd take care of the rest. In the end, that worked out fine. Minus the hiccups of dropping off the wrong food at the table, twice. Well, and the food being mostly satisfactory, if unremarkable. Beyond the guacamole, there isn't really anything I would order again. Maybe we ordered wrong? Perhaps it was a mistake to go for Spanish dishes at a Mexican restaurant. I really don't know. All told, the four of us ordered six dishes, a bottle of wine, and split a flan. We all left feeling sated, and enjoyed our night out. The whole experience came to just over thirty bucks per person, including tax and tip. Which isn't bad. Especially since the waiter treated three of us to tequila shooters, which also included a bit of sprite and coffee liqueur. I abstained, since I'm not the best at driving in heavy snow on unplowed roads. Still, it was a lovely gesture.

We also tried the beef empanadas, flaky dough surrounding a spicy minced beef interior. The Korean Fried Chicken Bao Buns were gooey sticky, spicy and crispy. Start to finish every staff person we interacted with was welcoming, attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Definitely appreciated and noteworthy over the usual, requisite pleasantries. We both had specials - scallops with squid ink risotto and pork belly with tostones. Each dish was thoughtfully and creatively prepared, the proteins were cooked perfectly, and I appreciated the inclusion of some fresh, on-site grown veg. Also enjoyed the Latin American flare/flavor incorporated into both dishes. Dining prices in Albany have (bewilderingly) been on par with Boston and NYC for years now, so Coray Kitchen is certainly reasonable for a high quality meal. I also appreciate that the specials were priced similarly to on-menu items. Will definitely be back to sample the paella and fresh pasta, unless enticed away again by specials!
