Nice stores. I applied for a job here came at the request of Holly the owner. Upon introducing myself they had no idea why I was there. Red flag as to organization. I waited for 30 minutes and a manager Vunz came out and conducted the interview, he said he was not expecting me I said well I have an email from Holly saying to be here right now for an interview. He said show me the email as if he didn't believe. I showed him it was her that asked me to come in. Anyway, he proceeded asking normal interview questions and then after asked me if I had any questions. I said yes, I asked what prompted you to put an ad, did someone leave? Or are you just busier this time a year? He quickly confirmed, it's just high turnover a.k.a everyone quits. I thanked him for his time and a few days later followed up with Holly. She never replied. This is a fun place to explore if you like artisan food and snacks. A lot of items are quite niche and hard to find in your local grocery stores. There is also a sandwich area, a cafe with bakery items. I got to taste my first Tartine Bakery pastry here. Got a butter croissant and a ham and gruyere cheese. Also picked up a cold brew to go with my pasties. The cold brew is infused with nitrogen so it's creamy I really like that. It is a little too acidic for my personal preference tho. The pastries are well make. The butter croissant is not super crispy on the outside but it has nice soft layers on the inside. The flavor is good. Ham and Gruyère croissant is crispier on the outside and I love that. This one is really good. I really like that they have a nice seating area behind the cafe. Service is pretty fast and efficient. During a neighborhood walk, I decided on making homemade pasta and thought the Epicurean Trader would be the perfect specialty store to visit. Unfortunately, this "specialty" store was underwhelming. The store is small and possesses a lot of pantry goods. This is in no way a grocery store, as there is little produce and a small refrigerator section. If you're looking for a better selection in general you're better off going to Village Market or Woodlands. I had a simple list of garlic, red onion, and pasta flour. The flour was an easy find, but as I made my purchase on the 9th of January, I discovered when I returned home that it in fact expired the same day. For a store like this I wouldn't expect this to happen, but again always check your labels. I was unable to find garlic, but was lucky enough to snag a decent looking red onion out of the three red onions they had. At checkout, I asked the cashier general questions about the store, and to my surprise he didn't know anything. Not being dramatic, but every questions was "I don't know". The cherry on top was that the cashier couldn't ring up the red onion. After a painfully long 5 minutes and a snake like line cueing, I decided to cut my losses short and leave with only expired flour in my tote. read more

It's always fun to stop into one of Epicurean Trader's locations. Each visit is like a gourmet treasure hunt with a wide variety of hard-to-find wine, liquor and specialty food items. They have great coffee and pastries and a good selection of Acme breads. You can sit on the sidewalk at Union Street or inside at the Ferry Building and enjoy a relaxed meal with great people watching - just like Paris! Whoever does their hiring is a magician because they have the nicest staff that seem to truly enjoy their work and colleagues. Definitely worth a visit. read more

We had a few matcha lattes and a chai latte, but this time had the mushroom empanada. The drinks are delivered on the back counter, away from the main hallway service counter. Food comes out from the back kitchen. The drinks here were solid, but the mushroom empanada was a real standout. Packed with mushrooms and with a very flaky crust, it was a great pastry. I was walking around FERRY BUILDING when I saw a sign that says this shop, THE EPICUREAN TRADER, sells Tartine pastries. I lined up, had a lady cut in front of me, and finally got to the front to order me some of those Tartine croissants... only to find that the croissants were from Craftsman & Wolves. It's OK, they still tasted delicious. What's great is that they had a Pain Au Chocolate that was actually made of cocoa so that the croissant itself was chocolate too. It was awesome. The traditional Butter Croissant is also very good - especially when dipped into some sipping chocolate or coffee. Ambience is definitely not lacking here at the FERRY Building: You can enjoy your croissant walking around inside the building, window shopping at the various awesome artisanal shops... or you can take it outside and enjoy the bay. read more

The epicurean trader is up there for favorite places to get lunch in the Ferry Building in San Francisco. (Some of them) are great sandwiches, decently priced, and quick enough even when there are long lines! My one word of warning: I would not get any of the "pre-made" pre packaged ones such as the baguette based prosciutto Brie and arugula. They come with hardly any prosciutto and 90% arugula. With that being said any of the sandwiches that are hot and have to be made such as the cortlandia are pretty alright. TL;DR some are great, some are alright, but they're all at least a 6/10 read more

While walking around the ferry building and checking out the restaurants and specialty stores, I came across Epicurean Traders store and I think it's cool. It offers a lot of different products that you can't find in any grocery stores. I bought two different kinds of chocolate bars and an artichoke with parmesan tepanade that I think my mother in law will like when I bring it to her when we go visit her during Thanksgiving. Very strange considering that goes against California state law: California's "Honest Pricing Law" (SB 478), which went into effect on July 1, 2024, aims to prevent deceptive pricing practices by requiring businesses to be upfront about all mandatory costs. Panini ($12) - Truffle Grilled Cheese with gruyere, swiss, tomato & truffle oil on toasted sourdough: I mean, sourdough in San Francisco is pretty on the nose, right? I wasn't feeling too hungry but I really wanted something warm due to the constant bay area chill in the air. If you follow me on Instagram, you would have seen the fun cheese pull we got from this panini. It was delicious although the truffle oil they used wasn't the most robust in terms of flavor. Empanadas ($6) - La Maradona tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella: My lil sis, Wendi K., was forced to eat this because she thought I would let her have a smoothie and scone for lunch. No! Eat more! I ordered The Chicken Club Panini, i added bacon to it, and was very delicious, I also had a Chao Latte, that was very delicious as well. My hubby had the breakfast Bagel, he said it was very good. I came here early on a Sunday morning before most other shops in the Ferry Building had opened. The store has an excellent selection of wines, chocolates and other artisanal goods, so a great place to grab a last minute gift if you are just passing through! Though I was really looking forward to trying their Breakfast Sandwich, it unfortunately wasn't what I had hoped for... the challah bread was lovely, but seemed to make up the majority of the sandwich. My only complaint is that, while I understand the cost of everything has gone up, paying $1 for a some oat milk in my drip coffee made it feel like rip-off.
