NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't stress enough about how terrible this place is!!!! If there was an option to put zero stars, thats what this places ratings would be. I am currently checked in to the hotel and its has only been 1 day. Let me start out by saying: 1. There is no drive way, or big sign to show where the hotel is. 2. Once you find the hotel its not even called Marina Tower, its catagorized as the Equuis Hotel. 3. Parking rates are outragous, I wouldnt mind paying a certain amount as long as I am getting what I'm paying for. The parking structure is small and cramped, and there is no bell boy to meet you and take your bags. Plus the elevator and stairs are hidden behind a curved wall so you'll be stuck wandering around with your bags trying to get to your room. 4. The elevators are slow and hot, the hallways smell terrible, and the walls are thin so it is very noisy. On top of that the front desk is separate from the hotel and its very hard to find AND IS NOT handicap accessable. 5. Finally once we've gotten into the hotel room, I couldnt think it would get worse but it did- The air conditioner was broken so they had us move to another room, you would think they would try and compensate us and give us a bigger and better room, no they gave us a room with a worse view, smaller, and dirtier! Our entire bathroom and kitchenett were scattered with cockaroaches and termites! Im scared to leave food out or wrappers in the trash can- it gets so bad!The utilieties in the room ie: plates, utensils, cockware, is dirty and not cleaned well enough. There is a broken soap dispenser and a used dried up sponge. CLEAN hotels, would have everything replaced with new things such as working soap dispensers and NEW sponges. Its not sanitary at all and is very upsetting. The sheets and towels and toilet paper are all rough and uncomfortable. I have checked into certain motels that have been nicer than this. Ive complained to the front desk and managment and asked them to compensate me for what I've had to go through and all they did was wave the parking fee. Dont get me wrong Im greatful theyre even doing anything, but you would think people who care about customer service would try and go above and beyond and get us a complimentary breakfast or discounts to events. NO- nothing. In fact the young man at the desk told me "This is Hawaii ma'am, Its a tropical climate and bugs try to go indoors to avoid it. I understand not all people are comfortable with staying in a room like that." NO ONE is comfortable with that! I cant belive the heath services havent shut this place down yet! If your wondering, why i havent packed up and checked out its because they will not refund my money! Heads up- this place has no resturant, no room service, no pool, and remember dirty rooms, terrible parking and horrible customer service. Please dont come here! Make your Hawaii trip worth it, Im out here for my boyfriends birthday and I regret booking this place, I am so embarrased. Luckily he doesnt seem to mind since he is at the beach the whole time. I stayed here 5 nights with my mom and i feel i have to let people know about this place ill start with the pros: the staff is very friendly and nice and the pool NEVER has anyone in it.. ever. unfortunately thats it. cons: 9 of my earrings went missing the second day. not a huge deal they were only crystal not diamonds but they still cost over 100 bucks. and yes i probably should have put them in the safe. at the same time it is totally disrespectful of the housekeeping. my mom stepped on glass and cut her foot. we did not break any glass meaning they did not even vacuum between whoever stayed last time and our stay which is ridiculous in my opinion. the walls are VERY thin. you can hear every single time your neighbor and people above you flush the toilet. and it was annoying being able to hear the noisy people party all night next to us. it is a very old hotel which isn't necessarily a con but the elevator has no air regulation so you sweat the second you take a step in it. and it takes about 3 minutes for it to come up from the lobby to your floor. there are no views. we were on the second to top floor (only 10 levels) and all we could see was the building across from us. parking lot is very small. fits about 10 cars MAX. last but not least there was chewed up gum stuck in a couple of the dresser drawers. might be hard but they need to clean that stuff up. Honestly I would warn everyone in the future to just find another place to stay. We could hardly wait to get out of this place we left at 5 am on many occasions just to get out of here. you can find a much better place to stay for less money. This older hotel is no frills or no thrills as our impression of the hotel. Make sure you don't drive too fast or you'll miss the small entrance to the hotel. This hotel is tucked between two larger hotels so it is easy to miss if it's your first time there. If you're on a budget and want to spend most of your time sight seeing and doing activities/tours, this hotel will meet those basic needs and still be in a safe area. Warning for those who need to park your vehicle, there is a $25 per night to park. The valet employees were always nice when we needed our rental; however, there is no valet after 10:00 pm which you have to park your own vehicle. Like the other reviews have mentioned, the hotel is definitely centralized to all the nearby attractions and within walking distance especially if you're doing a lot of tours and you have to meet the shuttle at a nearby hotel which was really convenient. The bed was so comfortable and definitely once you got onto WiFi that was a plus to have. The A/C was a challenge as it doesn't produce a lot of cool air especially when it's hot outside; however, the hotel provided another fan for the room. The hotel is close to a Main Street so you do hear all the traffic but once you get settled in for the night and as it get's later, you don't hear it anymore until you wake up. Our concierge, Scott, was amazing. He would be there when we woke up and when we settled down for the evening. He provided us information when we asked and always there to help us out from bringing our luggage down the stairs to keeping us company as we waited in the small lounge near his desk. Oh my God! There are Thieves among the staff. Friend of mine paid with cash upon check-in (Big mistake flashing money). So after taking a shower, he comes out for a quick meal (1 hour or so) then when he comes back he notices that "someone" stole $2,000.00 from his bag (Another mistake, he should have put in the safe deposit). Anyways, even though my friend did some mistakes, absolutely nobody was supposed to be in his room since he just had check-in. Thus, a person(s) from staff saw he had cash, and the minute he walked out for food someone with access control (which records were deleted from the system when police asked for) entered the unit to check his room and found his cash. HORRIBLE!!! This thing was orchestrated very likely by more than one person in the staff. read more

got this hotel on groupon... you really do get what you pay for. mediocrity. It was fairly cheap for a 5 night stay, but amenities are horrible, and it's just a very dated place. Arrived to the room, opted for the "partial ocean view room" it was a grimy feeling room with a MURPHY BED!!!! bathrooms were old and grimy. we complained, and was given a room that was slightly better (hey at least it had an actual bed). workers are unresponsive ... in order to get to your room, you have to pass the front desk...the least they can say is hi, but they ignored us every single night. elevators were horrible, stayed on 8th floor. Waited for 10 minutes, a cleaning lady passed us, and didnt' acknowledge us, the KICKER IS!! we walked 8 floors down,and there was a guy repairing the elevator.... the hotel workers knew this, but let us stand there like idiots anyway. Apparently, there's 2 hotels, the tower and the main equss hotel. the pools are horrendous, so we went to the pool that was advertised on the groupon website....however a worker approached us and told us it was only for the customers staying at the tower.... however, this is was NOT what was advertised on groupon and i think it's false advertisement, if they are going to market themselves as ONE hotel, then amenties should be available to EVERYONE. they made us feel like criminals for going to the pool that was PICTURED ON GROUPON!!! parking - 18 dollars, but if you cross the street and park @ the marina, it's only 6 dollars, save your $$$ people. it's just sad. free breakfast is fruit and bread...which i guess is okay, but still pitiful. groupon came with horseback riding.... arrived to the northshore and when we coldn't find the horseback riding place, the lady did not answer her cell phone.... i literally called 10 times.... my boyfriend and i drove around and finally found the place. An hour after the trail ride was over the lady had the audacity to say "if you enjoyed the ride, you can tip the guide" i was so shocked @ that point, that i had no choice but to give her $$. I'M SORRY, but that's no way to conduct a business. the only positive is the location - 5 minute walk to ala moana mall and hilton Hawaiian village.......BUYER BEWARE. overall takeaway: good place to stay if you are on a budget, but just be prepared to be UNDERWHELMED and slightly dissappointed. read more

People say you get what you paid... Well I admit that I didn't pay $1000 per night but since I paid over $300, my bottom line is cleanness. My room get urine stains all over toilet, interesting smell, loose control on shower, low ceiling even to a person who is just 5'6. Oh, by the way, the lobby is on the 2 ND floor and elevator only goes as low as that, so if you have many luggage, you need to have strong arms to carry them up to the lobby. read more

I liked the place. It's not something fancy like the Westin and Hyatt Regency, but it was clean. The full size bed (not king, if that matters to whoever is reading this) was comfortable and we had turnover service every day. I liked that the rooms have Keurig Coffee Maker and Kona blend coffee k-cups (you need to supply your own water). The staff was very nice and ready to answer our questions about the area. The room was small, but we didn't mind because we were hardly in our room throughout our five days vacationing in Oahu. The place is perfect for those who will be spending most of their time in Oahu out touring. It's close to the Ala Moana Shopping Center and a beach park. One note: you can hear the outside traffic being that it's on Ala Moana, but if you're tired every night from activities like I was, you should not have any problems falling asleep. Small, cozy hotel. I'll start off with saying the beds were to die for. Not even in a 5 star hotel would you get a bed this amazing. I didnt even wanna get up in the morning! I stayed in 905, and the room was nice- better than anything ive ever seens. Flat screen was small, but a flatscreen nontheless. Parking situation, bad! And the fact that you have to pay $18/day for it, even worse! Theres like 10 parking spaces, and a few in the marina tower. Everytime we got back, we had to chance parking in someones assigned parking for the marina tower and getting towed. Luckily, we didnt get towed, but its not cool to have to pay for parking when you dont even get a space to park. Overall, i'd come back-- But only because of the beds! lol read more

Con: VERY loud all times of day due to alo moana blvd- a super busy street with many motorcycles and trucks. Stayed here a week and it was so loud. No tea maker, only a kuerig. No microwave. No breakfast not even tea and pastry. Alarm clock radio didn't work. Towells only ok. For budget hotel, close to convention center it was good. I found The Equus through Expedia as a cheaper place to stay in Hawaii that still offered free internet. What I got was a very comfortable room in a good location (walkable distance from Waikiki and Ala Moana). However, the "free breakfast" was very disappointing and small (though what they had tasted fine), there was free wireless only in in the lobby, and the elevator was constantly broken (I was on the 12th floor, most people are much higher up in the tower). Overall, I recommend this place if you want to be further away from the very touristy Waikiki area while still being able to enjoy the beaches, shopping, and general atmosphere of Honolulu. read more

Clean, efficient, decent room for the price. It's not huge but it was fine for me. Staff is nice. Convenient location near Ala Moana Mall, beach, and rest of Waikiki. Parking is $18/day. Has a little Southeast Asian flavor: bamboo furniture etc...seems like rooms were remodeled recently and they were remodeling the lobby when we were there. Bed was soft. Sheets ok but if you're really sensitive maybe bring your own. Bring own cable to connect your computer to internet. There was a computer in the room that's supposed to hook up to the tv but it didn't work. There's no central air but there's a nice wall unit. No tub only shower stall. read more

I adored my stay here! The place has a really nice feel to it. The outside looks like your average run of the mill hotel... You come up the stairs and there are cute little benches and umbrellas to hang out at. YOu enter the lobby and it has a very islander feel. It's simple, yet very classy! I loved all the decor. All the employees were curteous, easy to talk to, and helpful. Our room was pretty big and it was fine. It wasn't anything special but it was clean and well decorated and fine since we weren't going to spend a bunch of time there. Free Wifi and breakfast was a HUGE plus. Nice pool.. My husband and I stayed here for one night as a little anniversary/staycation. It was one of the cheaper priced hotels so I was a bit worried that the lower price would reflect in the quality of the hotel and room, but it did not. It was a cozy little room with a nice big bed, a lanai that overlooked the street, and a modern-style bathroom. We recently stayed at The Equus Hotel in Waikiki and so excited we did. The customer service , including Queenie, Kaori and Trevor were exceptional and not to mention the entire staff. Very helpful with introducing us to the hotel for the first time and sharing their aloha wherever we were. The decor and accommodations were equivalent to many of the major hotels in Waikiki and for a much better price. Our room was clean, smelled great and had a balcony so we could enjoy the Hawaii breeze. Definitely we'll be staying again at The Equus. read more

The customer service was outstanding from booking the room, to checking in, all our needs were met during our stay, They greet you with fresh chilled guava juice upon arrival (nice touch) , and help you with your bags to your room. The beds are extremely comfortable. Renee was really helpful with my husband trying to book our room and went above and beyond to get us a room on a busy weekend. I'll start off this little rant by just suggesting you find another place to stay than the Marina Tower. While it wasn't necessarily dingy or a flea-bag, there was nothing at all refreshing about the room. The pictures are a bit misleading. While the sizes are appropriate, I just got an overwhelming feeling of disappointment every time I entered the room. The first time we went in, my wife and I just looked at each other and said, "oh..." Aside from the lackluster room, we had a few another minor annoyances. We had rented mopeds for a few days, and I asked the desk attendant in person where we could park them. He directed me to the bike rack in the back. Upon entering that area, I again asked a security guard, "We can just park them here, right?" He nodded. The next morning I was awoken by a phonecall. It was the moped rental place saying the Marina Tower building manager called THEM and threatened to tow the mopeds for not being parked in the correct area. So my wife and I had to roll out of bed and move them to an area 50ft away to avoid them being towed. The 2nd incident was our last night. Upon returning after a fun filled day with our friends, our key cards would not open our door. Fearing the worst we rushed down to the office to make sure they did not check us out a day early and swiped our stuff. We were picturing another couple inside our room wondering why 2 strange people are fiddling with the door. It turned out that the hotel had somehow overwritten our cards to other cards. Great.. So there's two other cards floating around with access to our room. After a few minutes at the front desk we got new cards with a working charge. Nothing appeared to be missing from our room. That we know of... The staff was friendly enough sure, but its not enough to make up for the hotel's other short comings. I will not be coming back here again. I would rather shell out a bit more cash for a much nicer place. read more

My wife and I stayed here for 10 nights. The hotel is older and could use some renovations. The bed was very comfortable, though. Their biggest downfall is the housekeeping staff.. they're awful. They will skip days on cleaning your room and mark down on the paper saying they did. Even when they do clean your room, they will short you on things like toilet paper and towels. In 10 days we ran out of toilet paper two times and I think they only actually cleaned 4 times. read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago on our first trip to Hawaii together for my birthday...and it was by far the WORST hotel experience we've ever had. EVER. There were some major issues including: -No water for 15 hours, when the hote said it would be around 3 or 4. -BUGS (gigantic ones!) everywhere in the room. Alive and crawling. -They moved us to a room that had no bed. Overall, the decor looks nothing like the pictures online. It is about as disappointing as you can expect--very dirty, old furnishings and tiles, no bathtub, limited amount of pillows and housekeeping, old crankly loud elevator. Everything looks like it came from the 60s--old and needs lots of updating. The free "continental breakfast" was a complete joke--slices of bread, one type of fruit, and limited amounts of juice and coffee is NOT appropriate and certainly nothing to promote. Seems like the housekeeping and maintenance departments don't speak very good English either. We had an issue with our shower stall (this was after they got the water back on after 15 hours), where the water didn't turn on and the hot and cold knobs didn't work properly, and we called somebody up to work on it. The guy spent almost 2 hours trying to fix it and finally said that he'd have to come back the next day because he couldn't fix it right then. Hence, our plans for the evening changed because we weren't able to take a shower for 2 days. My husband went down to the front desk many, many times to inquire about the water situation and the staff was not very responsive. It seems like communication wasn't a big importance at this place. We were so angry about the whole situation that we called Priceline, the company that we booked the package through and spoke with a rep and demanded a refund, and informed us that he'd have to contact the hotel first to see what they can do. After awhile, they said the hotel was only able to refund back a night....which was certainly not enough for the horrible experience!!! Disgusting. Atrocious. That's how I'd describe this hotel. PLEASE save your money and go somewhere else...anywhere else is better than this one. The only good thing I can say about this place was the close proximity to Waikiki and the beach. But then again, there are many MANY other hotels that are much better than this one. Please do not stay here. read more

For the price, Equus Hotel is a good choice for those looking for somewhere in Waikiki without paying resort fees. Building is older, but not in bad condition. Excellent location, near everything, 1 block from beach. Rooms are clean, though the street below is quite noisy. The king size bed with the pillow top mattress was AMAZING! Very comfortable, I could lay in that bed all day without complaints. Surrounded by food establishments, bars and the beach. I would have no problem staying here again. read more

Cute little boutique hotel on Ala Moana Blvd, over the bridge is the Ala Moana Center, so it's convenient to just walk if you didn't feel like driving. We stayed here about 4 times in the last 3 years traveling to Honolulu. If I can't find the right price, I always come to the Equus. Very low key and quiet. Small parking space so you would have to park across the street near Red Lobster for $20/day if there is no availability. Small pool but who uses a pool in HAWAII? I can say they can add another elevator, they only have one and it runs SLOW! Close by ABC Stores and other restaurants and also BUS transportation Very nice staff, always helpful and friendly. Gave us free tickets to a polo match, when we didn't feel like going to the beach. I really enjoy this hotel and staff :) read more

This hotel is cute and in a good location. We had a couple problems though, first of all, there was no elevator from the parking garage so getting our daughters stroller to our room was pretty challenging. Especially after a long day, this did not make it easy for us. Also, we had a late night at a show on the weekend, we were trying to sleep in and a strange man speaking another language burst through our door at 7:30 in the morning while I was sleeping naked in bed. It was very alarming, and not much consideration regarding that when we informed the front desk. I can only assume he was housekeeping, although he wasn't wearing a uniform. read more

Came to HI for a convention and spent 7 nights at The Equus. Overall, it was a good stay. A few of the pros: it is a short walk to the convention center, the staff was incredibly friendly, concierge Danielle treated us like family, front desk loans out beach towels, they serve free Mai Tais on Thursday and Friday evening, and the pool is neat. On to the cons: room was nice but kind of small and a little beat up, there was no shelf or handrail in the shower, heard traffic loud and clear from 8th floor, elevator was small, cramped, and slow. It was a good price and served its purpose well. They did what they could to make it a great stay. As a Sidenote, if you want your air conditioner to run even when you aren't in the room, stick your library card or some other useless card into the key slot...we figured out it doesn't HAVE to be a room key to make the AC work. read more

It's not a Four Seasons, doesn't have an "in-hotel" restaurant...but doesn't try to be and isn't in that price range. Last family owned hotel in Waikiki. They are in motion to be 100% solar powered-- front desk was very informative and I Appreciate their efforts of sustainability. The rooms were very clean And bathrooms remodeled. Great value and quaint/ aloha feels. I enjoy being away from the traffic/crazy side of Waikiki. They have espresso bar in morning that turns into a cocktail bar at night. I read some harsh reviews and I think if someone is looking for Four Seasons with $$$ they should go there-- remember no one is forcing you to do anything. Come on reviewers-- constructive criticism. If you see a bug-- well you did travel to a tropical destination. It wasn't in your food it was on the floor. Lol- as a resident of Oahu i frequent this establishment and love having a place to feel comfortable/staycation away from the Traffic/ hectic atmosphere of Waikiki. But hey-- everyone likes something different. I grew up in LA and have stayed on the islands for almost 10 years because of the community/ALOHA this state holds-- which is what this hotel is trying to represent. I have never written a Yelp review before, but I felt moved enough to start with my experience here. If you're thinking about The Equus, look elsewhere. Spend a little more and have a better experience. When we checked in (myself and three colleagues), we found out our two bedroom was downgraded to a one bedroom. They had no other rooms for us and we had to squeeze four people into one king bed. The next day, we were moved to a two bedroom and one of our four people left for another accommodation they had planned. Now, there were three, but the next room had different issues. One word: Roaches. My stomach sank when I saw the first one. Because we were there for a conference, we stuck it out, but we saw them go behind the mirror in the bathroom and under the countertop in the main room. Who knows where else they were. If I had booked the hotel, I would have read these reviews and moved on--but unfortunately, my friend booked it for us. Don't make the same mistake! read more

I havent saw any roaches despite all the bad reviews about it. I stayed in the lower tower and quite honestly it was fairly pleasant. The Good Stuff bed was very comfortable. sheets were done(don't know about being replaced) every day, clean linens and all. LCD HDTV location was excellent. not TOO touristy but still near all the happenings. I had a car so it wasn't too bad. Free Breakfast! at the red snapper one block down. can't complain about free food and includes drink and coffee. they said they started doing this on 4/12 so that was good. its not big but its enough to fill you up. The Bad Stuff(not a deal breaker) location...next to a busy street ala moana, and constant buses running around, it was pretty noisy. location...hotel's entrance(steps) led right onto the busy sidewalk. my gf got ran over by a bike! location...parking was very very limited. for entire lower tower, there was only like 10 spots. I didn't have parkign first night so we had to park across the street at a public parking but it was not bad. its first come first serve. i was relieved to have a parking spot guaranteed for duration of my stay but beware. overall I would stay again. The service was good, and the location is great since it is within walking distance to the heart of Waikiki, the beach, and Ala Moana Shopping Center. The rooms were well furnished and clean. The only drawback for me was that we could hear a lot of noise (traffic and people) from the room, which is located on the outside edge off of Ala Moana Blvd. Although, I was really only bothered on the first night (Friday).
