Such a homey humble stay, here in Waikiki, HI. The staff were very welcoming. It seemed like a family owned place and even if it isn't, it's a good thing still. They made it feel like a home stay. You get some nice views of the sun going down behind the harbor docks and can also enjoy a partial street, city views or other hotel, home buildings and shops. I do have a slight dislike of their elevator, it's quite cricketyyy.. kinda scary. lol. It will slight open before it stops on your floor and it does have, like any other elevator, a weight and capacity limit, but I feel like it should be less than it says seeing how fragile it sounds. Otherwise, this stay isn't so bad. Rooms were roomy, had a balcony, shower, closet, fridge, AC, tv..etc The hotel has a deep pool, a bar right upstairs the entrance before the homey check in area. They play some live music throughout the week and happy hour everyday which has great drinks and deals! Also serving small bites, perfect for a breakfast or midday, late night snack.

So this was my humble abode while I was in Hawaii. The hotel has limited parking and I was thankful I got the last spot. The elevator could use some work as well. My room was quite impressive, the only downside was the stray hairs in the bathroom the cleaning crew missed. The hotel will meet your needs and with a bar and pool you couldn't really ask for more.

This is my third stay at The Equus in an Executive King over the past 20 years. The room looks the same except for added night lights near the ceiling. I've seen this type of lighting a lot in Japan. The only major changes I've seen to the property in twenty years: bar improvement and the room phones are gone. This is the first hotel I've ever been to in the United States with no room phone. Kinda weird. I would think that's a safety issue. Overall, the stay was okay. The bed wasn't that comfortable. You had to find a happy medium with the air conditioning because there isn't really good bedding. I had to use the shawl on the chair to keep my feet warm. It is a really convenient hotel to stay at if you want to be near to the Convention Center, Ala Moana Shopping Center and Ala Moana Beach Park - all within a ten minute walk. Nearby are some spots I like to go to when I'm in the area: Tropics Island Grill & Ale House, Suzie Wong's, Namaste Indian & Nepalese (Formerly Bombay Palace), Waikiki Gangnam Style, Island Country Markets (ABC mini-grocery store), Aloha Kitchen and Sunny's Local Grinds. Pros: Price Convenience Friendly front desk staff Cons: Room was not clean by my standards. Lacks wall sockets by the desk. Pillow beds? If they are, mine was flat. Not a secured hotel Only one elevator on the property used by everyone. Max 4 people.

I am torn right down the middle when it comes to my thoughts and opinions of this motel. I say motel despite it saying hotel on the wall because all of the rooms are accessed from the outdoors. This was my second stay here and I think that my memories of the place were actually nicer than the place itself. As with most motels, the photos that you see on their website are professionally taken and manipulated to make things seem way nicer than they actually are. Case in point, the website shows the exact same room in the photos for the deluxe and the classic king rooms. In the photos, the motel looks plush and inviting. The rooms seem clean and well maintained and overall, you feel like you're getting good value for your money. The first time I stayed here, the room was booked for me as I was on a work trip. I only stayed here from around 10pm until check out the next morning and so my experience was very limited. Because I had been here before, when I decided to bring my wife and her mom on vacation, I looked them up. That is where my memory must have been a bit foggy because I remembered it being pretty nice and the prices that I was looking at were great compared to other nearby places. What the motel staff didn't know was that I would be able to enter into two of their rooms and this is where I felt lied to. I booked a deluxe king suite for my wife and I and to save mom some money, I booked her the classic king. Ours was on the 9th floor and mom's was on the 7th. They were EXACTLY the same and when I questioned the front desk about it, they said that the only difference is that our room has older antique furniture. So, if you never knew the difference, you are literally paying more for the same room. It seems that each floor of this motel has mostly the same room just with different furniture inside and that wouldn't be a bad thing if the rooms were quiet. We heard and smelled most of our neighbors as well as noise from the street below and it would also help if the rooms were cleaned well. Our shower had someone else's long black hairs on the wall, there was soap scum and grit and grime in every crevice. The room overall feels worn out and you cannot enjoy the balconies because the mini splits are mounted to the ceiling and cause the whole balcony to be crazy hot and uncomfortable. Add to that the fact that even though you have air conditioning controls in your room, they seem to have no effect on the machine's settings whatsoever. You either have it on or off at whatever temperature they've preset it for. My suggestion for this motel is that since the water pressure is terrible. Install some handheld shower heads that can be taken from the holder and used to rinse. My wife had to get back into the shower three times to get the soap off of her. I know this is running long but conscious travelers ought to know the details. They have an elevator, but it only runs from the 3rd floor to the top so be prepared to lug your baggage up a two-story flight of stairs before you get to the lobby where the elevator is. They have a very small swimming pool that we didn't use because by the time we came back from our day trips, it was already closed, and the saving grace of the establishment is the onsite Paniolo bar and cafe. All of the bar tenders were super friendly and welcoming. This little outdoor oasis serves craft coffee in the mornings and is mostly a full bar for the entire day. Everything they serve from the beer to the sandwiches is all locally sourced and the prices are competitive. Ben and Julia were awesome! As for the motel. If you're like me and basically need a bed to crash in. They are surprisingly comfortable. We spent most of each day away from the motel so paying a premium wouldn't have made much sense. This place is within walking distance to the Ala Moana Center shopping mall, a convenient ABC store and Waikiki beach and the Ala Moana beach park. The don't oversell their parking spaces so if you land one, you won't need to worry about having a spot, but the lot is a nightmare, and they charge $30 per night. Add that to the surprise transient fees on top of the regular resort fees and when you're done, you'll still save a little bit of money. All three in our party agreed that we would definitely stay here again. We would even recommend the Equus to others who are traveling to Honolulu but then again. We are frugal and forgiving when it comes to certain standards that others may have stronger convictions about.

    Stains on the "clean" pillows.

Save yourself. Please. Horribly unclean, even after a request for special attention to the glaring red flags in the bathroom... Thankfully the front desk staff is friendly, but it really doesn't make up for the horror. I was crawling in my skin the entire time. Worst offender was the red crust ON the top sheet when we opened the bed. A photo is worth a thousand words, so I'll let them do the talking... ALSO! If you have any family/friends that can't go up stairs, please know that it is seemingly stair access only to the lobby.

We booked a room at the Equus through Southwest Hotels, and we're so glad we found this place. It's a small boutique "hotel" that's a step up from a motel, but not as fancy as a more well-established hotel. Rene the front desk receptionist is super nice! She was very kind to hold our bags for us until it was time to check in. This is such a prime location, with a short walk to Ala Moana Mall, and a 10-15 walk to Waikiki Beach. The Equus kind of has a beachfront motel-ish kind of vibe. The elevator was kind of janky, and the shower is kind of cramped and dark, but our room was otherwise convenient and comfortable. A safe was available to store small valuables. They also provide plenty of complimentary beach towels you can take on your beach adventures as well. Thanks Equus for the wonderful stay!

The staff was very unorganized and parking was a big problem. The hotel was on a busy street and very noisy. The elevator was a bit scary. They did make an effort to make the room look nice. Be careful with boutique hotels!

Hotel offers different types of pillows in the room and spare blanket in armoire. Also in the armoire is hangers, an ironing board and steaming iron, which came in handy for those wrinkled linen shirts mashed in my suitcase. The Bathroom. - one sink with a little counter top space but sufficient. The toilet was also bidet in the master bath. The shower pressure on 21st is ok but low, but it did the job. The Ac in room was awesome! It gets super cold, if you need it, quickly. It was nice for those hot humid days of walking in Waikiki. It had an In-room mini fridge and bar sink with 4 real drinking glasses, which I like. Hated there was no freezer in the mini fridge But the bell hop station offers to freeze ice packs, or whatever you need, for you. We had 3 sliding doors with west views and moderate views of Waikiki beach. The Second bedroom has own bath with also a single sink, toilet and shower- No bidet. The room/bedding/bathrooms were clean with no mold in the showers. The furniture showed a little wear but nothing excessive. The Elevators were fast! The pool, mangers reception and breakfast are all on the 4th Floor (terrace level). Breakfast was typical of Embassy Suites, I like the made to order omelette which makes it much better. Lots of fresh fruit and even some miso soup and other Japanese/Hawaiian offerings. The Staff was awesome and super friendly. I Used valet every day. Great service, fast and practical IMO but hard to swallow the daily fee. The hotel was attacked to the Waikiki beach walk. Island vintage coffee was a regular stop for coffee and sometimes breakfast. Order coffee or food to go online after 8am to save a ton of time standing in line. Hotel was Very close to all ththe shops. Awesome location. Much better location than Hilton Hawaiian village location!!! Our fav restaurant close by the hotel was Kana Pilla and Monkey Pod, which were across the street. Make sure to make Open Table reservations for both way ahead of time. I did mine 2 months out. Housekeeping willing to clean and supply new towels daily however linens are not cleaned but every 5 day, unless you request it, which they are happy to do! Views from 21st floor were awesome and all 21st floor rooms had extensive balconies. 3 sliding doors. Keep in mind Ac doesn't work, yes the fan blows, when the doors are open!! It's too humid at night to sleep with them open so we had them open for select times, mostly am. There's a Washer/dryer laundry room on site, 3rd floor only. It was Very convenient especially packing 4 days of clothes for a 10 day trip so our suitcases weren't stuffed . Use laundry room on sundays/mon or late evenings when people are too busy arriving and leaving. $5.25 to each wash load and I think $4.75 to dry. Washers only wash with cold which I like. Perm press on dryer seemed to dry all our shirts and socks well. We hung our nice Aloha shirts on the hangers in the room and they dried within a day. Washer and dryers take credit cards. Yes they're is a soap machine that also takes credit cards. I didn't use and just bought soap from ABC. ABC stores are EVERYWHERE so don't lug around suntan lotion or waters in your suitcase. Just buY at ABC which is only 20 steps away. FYI ABC doesn't no GIVE out bags for items unless you spend over a certain amount. ANC bags cost like .50 cents. ABC has Awesome poke and alcohol (spirit and beer) choices. Yes single purchase tall beers too. Don't forget the free brief fireworks show in front of the Hilton Hawaii Village on Friday nights only. We saw them set off at 7:45p by the lagoon. It's amazing how many people attend so be prepared for the crowds to and from. Big tip: make open table reservations for all your restaurants months ahead! All places are super busy until about 8:45 pm on most nights. Hope I helped.

WORDS TO DESCRIBE Halepuna Hotel: Modern, clean, safe, economically and environmentally friendly (bamboo room cards, water dispensers for your reusable water bottles), bright, airy, quality service in hospitality and room service LOCATION I loved staying at the Halepuna Hotel. It was centrally located at the beach walk, so ABC Store, shops, restaurants, and the beach were all within walking distance. *It was difficult finding the location of the hotel, when we first arrived. There was no big sign that you can spot, while you're driving, so my landmarks I always looked for were the ABC Store and Denny's. STAFF/SERVICE: Everyone that we came across during our stay was very friendly, generous, kind, and attentive. A shoutout to the Valet Service crew, especially RJ. He gave us recommendations for where to go. He always made us smile and laugh with his jokes. Thank you Uncle! AMENITIES: ROOMS Our room was equipped with charge stations-usb and usb c compatible plugs, ironing board/iron, mini fridge, ice bucket, tea kettle, and coffee maker. BATHROOM Well stocked with towels, a drying cord, blow dryer, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I appreciated that instead of your standard toilet, the hotel had bidets! *Great water pressure for showering. The tub was also spacious, if you wanted to take a bubble bath. 8TH FLOOR GYM-Equipped with a lot of machines Water dispenser Additional restrooms/shower room LAUNDRY ROOM is open 24/7 There are 3 washers and 4 dryers You can pay using your credit card or download the WASH CONNECT app *Friendly suggestions: -As a guest, bring your own laundry soap/dryer sheets--or go to the ABC Store if you forget your laundry supplies -Make sure to clean the lint trap before you put your clothes in -Put a timer on your phone to check on your clothes GARDEN -Serene, tranquil, peaceful, spacious -------- Friendly Suggestions for Halepuna Hotel -Have a big sign stationed outside the hotel, perhaps elevate the height of the sign and add lights to it, so it's easy to spot for first time visitors ------- All in all I enjoyed staying at the Halepuna Hotel. Instead of calling housekeeping I went directly downstairs to the front desk. Front desk personnel were busy as there were only 2 people assisting the long line of quests. I decided I'll just deal with the room uncleanliness later. Please be advised that I did take pictures. Once I checked out on Sunday, March 8th, I advised the front desk personnel my concerns. The manager Ira listened to my concerns as I showed her my pictures. She immediately apologized and ask that I email the pictures to their corporate office. Which I did once I arrived back to the mainland. In the room there's a finger or toenail clipping on the carpet between the console and couch. Also you can also see that portion of the carpet has not been vacuumed. The clothed bench in front of bed was extremely stained and filthy. So filthy that I covered the bench with a bath towel if I needed to sit down. Also the refrigerator was very dirty. I chose not to put any food items in the fridge because of this. Also the bottom of the toilet is stained with either fecal matter, urine or maybe it's rust. If so, clean it then use caulking. These are the concerns I have with room 403. Hopefully I'll be hearing from upper management in regards to my unpleasant stay in room 403. The best part of staying at this hotel was the show Auana which is located at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, Grace went above and beyond to make sure our check-in experience was seamless and welcoming. Traveling with elderly parents can sometimes be challenging, but she handled everything with such patience, warmth, and genuine care. She was incredibly attentive to our needs, thoughtfully ensuring that our rooms were convenient and comfortable for everyone in our group. During that time, the property experienced a loss of power and water, and the elevators were not working, which made things quite challenging. That said, once the weather cleared, we were able to appreciate what the hotel had to offer. We had booked two adjoining oceanfront rooms, and the view was beautiful when the skies opened up. Waking up to the ocean right outside our window made it all worthwhile. The hotel itself is a bit dated, but the front desk, maintenance team, and all the staff members we interacted with were all very friendly and really helpful despite the difficult circumstances. Their positive attitude made a big difference in our stay. The location is def a huge plus, lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance, making it super convenient. The pool is a bit small and tends to get crowded, but it was heated, which was nice, and we really enjoyed the SWIM bar and restaurant. The food and drinks there were surprisingly good but they have a new menu so I was disappointed I didn't get to try some of the items I saw on the Yelp reviews . Overall, the service, location, and beautiful oceanfront views made our stay very enjoyable.

I love that it is in the heart of Waikiki, very walkable to shopping and nightlife should you want to leave the grounds of the resort. The nightly local music with hula under the sky is magical. Reservations for dinner, or grab a first come first serve cocktail table at 5 to watch the sunset! There is also nightly jazz in the bar. La Mer is a one of a kind French experience and Orchids is fantastic for any meal of the day. Just outside the hotel is a delightful oceanfront park where the hotel hosted yoga each day. A highlight for me. Great poolside service. The beach is small, so if you are looking to lounge on the beach, that's not really much of an option. This hotel is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World. So you know it has the highest standards. That brand has never steered me wrong. And the fact that it is not under a massive hotel chain umbrella means it can maintain its authentic individuality. Pro tip: if you have a late flight, there is a lounge where you can relax and prepare for your departure, as check out is 11am.

Extremely rude and unprofessional service coming from one of the male bartenders…read more I was accosted while coming out of the restroom , with him frantically asking if I paid the tab, treating me like some sort of criminal. The restroom is in the restaurant area. I never once left the restaurant throughout the entire evening. I was simply on my way to pick up my drink from the seating area and then head to the bar to pay. He told me I was "going the wrong way" when the way I was going would have led to me to the bar... The way this team handles tabs in this bar is abysmal. Right when I sat down, I was attempting to give my bartender my credit card to start a tab. They refused to accept my card and said don't worry about it, and that they'll take it after I'm done. I explicitly told the bartender that I was going over to the lawn right next to the bar (still in the restaurant area) to get a better view of the musical performance, drink in hand. They said go ahead. Nobody should be treated like this

I slept like a baby in the king sized bed! I also liked how there was a small kitchen with cookware and a microwave. We were celebrating a minimoon and were gifted a bottle of champagne, a bar of chocolate, and a lovely fruit platter. Service was impeccable, from check-in to dining to pool service. Breakfast was included in our stay and the food was quite impressive. Not only do you get the breakfast buffet, but you get to order as many small plates as you'd like (mind you, they're already quite filling), and one large plate. You can also take your leftovers to go. Honestly, I would eat breakfast and be set until dinner most days. At the pool, they also brought around ice cream or smoothies to keep guests refreshed. They did so pretty frequently. The pool was also never super busy, which was nice as we just came from another hotel where the pool was constantly packed. You do get a small view, but it's mostly blocked by other buildings. There's a decent gym that also was never super busy. It's on the same floor as the spa. We contemplated treatments, but ultimately never went.

Great location, very accessible to stores and the beach, and also secluded in a sense you're not in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. We came as a family of three. Not only did they gave us a warm welcome, but they provided plenty of accommodations for our baby. A baby robe which was the cutest, but also a diaper genie baby bath tub and toiletries. We were so impressed! The room views were amazing and our room was upgraded which was a super plus! Breakfast was amazing! Our favorites were their mochi pancakes. They did have construction during our stay, but nothing to really get in our way. The service and accommodation were amazing! Thank you for our great stay Ka La'i! See you hopefully soon!
