We do a lot of escape games as a family. We have seen some trashy run down places, but do not worry, this one is not one of them. The theming was great, the clues were tough enough, but we needed a little nudge to get through. It was pretty lateral movement... as in one problem solved the next, but you could start at so many different areas to reach the end without doing them in a certain order. Operation Treehouse was loads of fun! I've gone to all the escape rooms at this establishment, and this was one of my favorites. For people who don't love being crammed together trying to solve one puzzle at a time, this room had loads of puzzles to choose from. It definitely is easier with larger parties, but it's totally do-able with a group of five like us. There were plenty of puzzles that were non-linear, and therefore people could disperse and work on their own thing. The skills needed to get to locks and keys were diverse, and therefore people with different strengths and weaknesses could gravitate toward what they are best at. Everybody left feeling like they accomplished a task at some point in the room. The room was vibrant and colorful, with lots of decorations. We all had a blast. This was my first time visiting escape goat. I had heard very positive things about Operation Treehouse. The initial employee who greeted us was not very friendly. She was stressing out our family that had arrived already saying they would start the game without us exactly at our time. Yes, we were supposed to arrive 15 minutes early--but life happens & we filled the waivers in advance. We were doing our best to make it on time. I've never been to an escape room where the employee felt so desperately rushed. We arrived before our game time, and the employee rushed thru the directions. I had no idea what the storyline even was because she said it so fast. I had a general idea from the website, but there was no reason things needed to be rushed so much. For the price we paid for our group, I expected a more relaxed experience. Our room had a technical difficulty & an employee had to come into the room with a ladder to fix it. This was pretty disappointing as this room was expensive. The puzzles were pretty cool. There were a few unique ones that made this room standout. Overall my family enjoyed the theme and flow of the room. I was disappointed it was only 1 room, and didn't expand into more rooms. After we finished a different employee came in who was SUPER friendly. She did not seemed rushed at all, and allowed us the chance to ask any questions. A family member asked the first employee if they had any discounts, she said they did not. But then the next day we noticed there was a coupon code on their social media that she didn't tell us about. So either she didn't know about it or she forgot to tell us about it. This room was expensive. I thought it was cool, but I felt it was priced a bit too high. I prefer rooms that lower the price based on the # of players. It's rare that you find an escape room place where every room is an absolute, top-notch joy; Escape Goat is such a place. My wife and I did all four rooms in a single day and we couldn't think of a single thing to really complain about for any of them all day long. We started with Operation Treehouse which, typically, is for 4-8 players. We can definitely see why; there's SO much to do in that room, and I'm not sure if we would have finished it if we had tried to go without clues just for the sheer amount of stuff with which to interact. That said, the puzzles were so entertaining, and the room had the feel of a fun children's show with incredible design. After that, we did the Area 51 room. If you're a sci-fi fan, there are a lot of fun Easter eggs throughout the room with amusing references to various franchises. I would consider this our lowest ranked of the four, but it's still a terrific room with lots of nice in-jokes and a great opening. One puzzle in particular stuck out to me as especially fun and the challenge for you, the reader, is: see if you can be one of the few to not reset the incident clock! Following that, we knocked out Fisherman's Tale, and aside from one puzzle which I admit I misinterpreted, everything felt so incredibly intuitive. Something about the way they set up the room just left things which might have been a bit more ambiguous otherwise feeling like they just made sense. We were never pulled out of the immersion and left wondering what to do next. Finally, Quest was the most challenging for us, but once we got back on our game, we genuinely appreciated the design and theming of the room. It had a delightful, magical feel to it and made you feel like you were in one of any number of fantasy stories. The final puzzle, too, gave you a really fun choice of how to end the game. Beyond the games, the staff were fantastic as well. The game masters with whom we interacted were so much fun and the other folks were wonderful, too, especially given the complexity of the situation my wife and I were in as far as getting to play there at all. We'd shown up a week prior but we had an emergency pop up right in the parking lot and had to leave immediately; they were incredibly understanding about it all and we were already so grateful. The following week, when we finally got there in one piece, we accidentally showed up early and they worked with us to rearrange our game schedule so we could do all four in one day! One final note, they also have fun little mini-game challenges that you can pursue during your games and, if you accomplish the goals, you get to write on a small lock and add it to a big chain of locks hanging on the wall. I've done over 150 escape rooms in Seattle, LA, New Orleans, Houston, and the Bay Area. I actively travel and seek out the best escape rooms in the US, so this review is catered specifically to enthusiasts looking for unique, high quality rooms. The Quest - mid 4 / 5. (Rank 36 / 156. A good game, and one we'll happily recommend to travelling enthusiasts. One of the best games in the Orlando area). The Quest is a mostly lock based game where you're on a quest to slay a dragon. There is an (in-character) GM in the room with you at all times to help you out - generally not a fan of this, but our GM was nice and tried to be as unintrusive as possible. The game has a mom and pop feel, and they did a pretty good job with the theming and overall structure of the game. The set was a medieval house (i don't like house themes) with a bunch of interesting custom props, the story had some nice flavor and a good decision point at the end though not much progression throughout the game, and the puzzles had a nice mix, including one more hands-on physical puzzle. Overall a pretty decent room that did most things reasonably well, and worth the trip up. Player Recommendations - Standard recs of bring near the minimum (2-3) for experienced players, and around the middle for beginners (4-5). A good portion of the room is highly parallel so you can bring more if you want. Set - You're in a medieval house full with medievally stuff. This stuff is well themed and appeared to be mostly custom, which evoked the feeling of being in a fantasy world reasonably well. Not a lot of change in scenery, but the props were great. Puzzles - The puzzles were mostly reasonable, and had a decent mix of stuff (and some amount of locks). One puzzle required a bit of scavenger hunting and probably could have used some better cluing, one involved a fun wooden mechanical contraption to get a thing, and there was one fairly complex logic puzzle which was fun to work out. Some of these puzzles Story - You're trying to figure out how to stop a dragon and are on a quest. Each of the tasks during your quest was nicely on theme and had some variety, though this felt more like a bunch of random tasks rather than one coherent quest (which is still fine given that they were going for the parallel structure). Some of the tasks also had a couple of flavor moments which were a nice touch. The ending was also cool, since you get to make a small choice that impacts the ending that you get, which is a fun moment of choice in the game. *2018 Update* Our family has now completed all 3 of their rooms, so we are now prepared to leave a review for the company as a whole. I will start by saying, that other Escape Room Enthusiasts have been recommending Escape Goat to us for almost 2 years now, ever since we started escape rooms. After completing all 3 of their rooms (current rooms only, as we missed 221B), we absolutely understand the hype. This is a family owned business who clearly takes pride in their product. Everything in all of the rooms fit the theme completely, and all of the rooms are incredibly fun. Here are my spoiler free opinions of all 3 rooms: The Quest - Out of 27 rooms completed to date, this room is my #2 favorite room I have ever done. The theme itself was great, and everything in the room fit that theme very well. The storyline was engaging, and I love the way they did the ending. Camp Echo - This was our first room at Escape Goat, and it remains in my top 5 favorites list. We loved the theme. It was so creative, and they did a great job of making sure that all of the puzzles, puzzle pieces, tools, and clues fit that theme. To anyone with small children, I would recommend this room as a perfect introduction to Escape Rooms for them, as all of the puzzles in this room are incredibly hands-on and very engaging for young ones. Area 51 - This was our most recent room. Once again, great theme and everything in the room fit that theme. It did have 1 aspect that made our 8 yr old a little nervous, but it was easy enough for her to avoid, so despite that, we all still had a great time. There were a couple really cool easter eggs in this room, and one of the final puzzles in the room was a specific type of puzzle that I've been hoping to run into for months, and was just as much fun to complete as I had always hoped it would be. Other side notes, the business is well maintained, clean, and well decorated. The staff are incredibly friendly and fun to chat with, and there are fun games and puzzles sitting around to play with while you wait. We came back to play Escape Goat's newest room, The Quest, which replaced their Sherlock-themed 221B game. I loved all of Escape Goat's previous games, and was sad to see 221B go, but The Quest is absolutely phenomenal. While 221B was a very logic puzzle-based escape room, The Quest is less so. There are still plenty of puzzles to solve, but they're a different kind of puzzle. The scenic in this room is incredible and I can't stop thinking about all of the unique and interesting puzzles. There were plenty of "AHA!" moments which can be the most satisfying part of an escape room experience. It's no secret that Escape Goat is one of my favorite escape room businesses of all time. I can't explain how AMAZING this location is in words. My husband and I are escape room enthusiasts- we've done almost 50 rooms. And The Quest moved to our number one spot - best room we've ever done. The room was SO IMMERSIVE. Every puzzle, every clue, every detail was story related. Everything was logical & the puzzle designs were unique and creative and challenging. We were concerned that having the game master in the room would be odd, but it added to the story and made it even better. I can't talk highly enough about this place. I love escape rooms! It's unique fun and in your team, you quickly find that the "quiet ones" are not so quiet; and the "team players" are some of the most competitive people you'll meet! I've done ER's on cruise ships and on land. I've done prisons, sheriffs offices, outer space, planetariums, a kid's camp, old ladies secret rooms - and they're all great. At Escape Goat, from the minute you walk in, there are puzzles in the waiting room and keys incorporated into the decor. Very clever. We did "Camp Echo". At first we thought it might be TOO kiddy, but that was just the camp setting. You find out kids are crafty and secretive and speak in code and like sports. And in this case, outsmart the adults many times! This room was great. Some of the puzzles were more difficult than expected but unlike most of the other rooms I've done, you don't get penalized if you ask for a clue (in some games, if you ask for a clue, you get time deducted from your hour). In some games I've done, you don't see any of the employees but they are watching you via monitors and will provide clues if you ask. In Camp Echo, an employee is dressed up as a camp counselor and is sorta with you - but sorta not - and yet it works! Also, in a lot of these games, the rooms are dark (I've done one in complete darkness and we wore night vision goggles) but this one was very colorful (just like a kids camp would be). The workers at Escape Goat were all very involved and you could tell they liked working there. We absolutely had a blast and talked about the game long after we left and well into the evening. This was my very first Escape Room experience, and it truly set the bar high. We arrived fifteen minutes early as requested, and found this a great use of time to put our things in a locker, use the restroom, and learn about what to expect. The employees here were so friendly and helpful, and truly went above and beyond to make our first experience a positive one. While we TECHNICALLY did not win the room (we needed more than 3 hints), they certainly made us feel like we were winners (they even encouraged us by letting us know that 221B was the hardest of their rooms, and we did exceptionally well with it considering it being our first time.) I was very impressed with the special effects in the room, and did not expect that level of detail in an area that isn't as tourist driven. After playing sixty-three escape rooms, one starts to notice patterns. Having a big or small budget, it turns out, has nothing to do with how well-designed or fun a room is. With that in mind, I can confidently say that Area 51 at Escape Goat in Orlando is the BEST escape game I've ever played that wasn't corporately backed. To be clear, "low-budget" does NOT mean low quality. I've played plenty of high-end rooms that weren't enjoyable--fancy electronics do not equal puzzles that are fun to mull over. The room's progression is extremely well-thought-out and connected in a way that's not only fun, but keeps larger groups from being bored. Too many times, rooms will have very "linear" puzzles in which A leads to B leads to C leads to D. This is fine if you're playing alone, but then half the group has nothing to do. This is NOT the case at Escape Goat. I greatly appreciate that there are always multiple problems to work on at the same time, so no one gets bored. The storyline of the room was extremely well mapped out and understandable without being basic. At first, I was a little put off by the person in the room with you. Instead of cameras, Escape Goat has a themed employee in every room who tells you the story and gives clues when asked. (They have a similar setup at The Great Escape, and it's terrrrrrrible.) However, this turned out not to be a problem. After giving the plot, they stay unobtrusively in the corner until the end unless called upon. I was really expecting to feel creeped out and "watched" the whole time, but I honestly didn't even notice they were there. I'm curious what Escape Goat could do with a big budget... like if they moved to a more touristy location downtown or near I-Drive. But even without one, there is nothing lacking at this place. Shame their currently location only has space for three rooms. This month (July 2017), they'll be closing 221B. It seems the bakery next door did NOT close and give them extra space. Friendly staff. I've done 4 escape rooms thus far & the Area 51 was my fave. Standard 3 clue policy with up to as many clues as possible, but 3 clues max is considered a win. Rather than have your game host behind in another room you have a game host who takes a theatrical role & stands in the room the entire time. At first it made me hesitant to search, but I appreciated the in-game host as they made sure I didn't damage anything or attempt to remove props that were meant to be standing. The setting was the most elaborate I've seen thus far with a lot of time & effort put into the props. There were a couple unique locks that made me squeal with delight. The puzzles aren't exceptionally difficult but connect in a complimentary way that gives you that gratifying "ah-huh" moment. My friend and I had so much fun at Escape Goat the other night. First of all the rooms are not scary which is important to a lot of people. The room has unlimited clues and since there were only two of us we took advantage! It helped us enjoy ourselves more because at some point or another you hit a dead end and just stare at one another confused. I thought the room we did called Fisherman's Wharf had a fantastic set up, the puzzles were well done too. I've done rooms where there are far too many small pieces. This was well rounded. One issue we had that caused them to lose a star is they did not tell us if we ran late we'd lose time. People run late all the time and we even called to let them know we'd be late and when we arrived they hurried us through payment and instructions because our room had already lost 10 minutes time. 14 by the time we got in. I questioned this and they said the room starts on the hour so the next people don't have to wait. However it was a ghost town when we got out. They could have given us our extra 14 minutes. They should mention this when you make a reservation. read more

First, My Background with Escape Games: My wife and I have experienced nearly thirty escape rooms, mostly near Orlando, Florida, and Virginia. Typically, we just do them just as a party of two. We favor story, theming, and scenery: we're looking for immersive adventures that are impossible to get at home. Fantasy, science fiction, and horror are the genres we tend to gravitate towards, and we prefer them all with a healthy dose of whimsy. ------------------------ My wife and I took a week-long vacation centered at Universal Orlando, and I put a lot of planning time into finding the best escape room establishments in town. We ended up going to 19 rooms spread across 7 locations within half an hour of Universal. Escape Goat is hands down our favorite! First off, I didn't realize how telling the name was going to be. "Escape Goat" is representative of the humor-heavy style you'll find in these rooms. While playing, I frequently found myself pointing out hilarious details to my wife. But while we got a lot of laughs in, it was all supported by great game design, which Escape Goat takes seriously. One particular differentiator was their hint system: your game master is actually a costumed character in the room with you. (I've been in escape rooms that seemed cramped with just two smaller-than-average-sized adults. Don't worry about that at Escape Goat; their rooms are all big enough to where they won't be in your way at all. In Camp Echo, you're not even in the same space.) I don't know what it's like from their perspective, but for a player, it's fantastic. You get immediate information from them, and don't have to deal with the time-wasting process of deciphering on-screen text-based clues, or worry about a low-quality intercom system. My wife and I would love to see more of this in escape rooms; we think it would be a lot of fun to dress up too, to get in character, and have even more interaction with the host, like we've experienced at some mystery dinner theaters. That won't work for everyone, everywhere, but as the escape room industry evolves, surely something like that is going to become a sub-genre; Escape Goat will be known for their pioneering. As it is, Escape Goat's approach is close enough to the closed-circuit surveillance norm that it should appeal to anyone who would play any other escape game, but it's different enough to make for a more immersive experience. All three of the rooms are top-notch; if you can't do them all, you should just pick based on thematic preference. We're happy that they changed out their old "221B" room for The Quest, because high fantasy is more our cup of tea than Sherlock. But the current offerings are all super-fun and I wouldn't want to have to recommend just one. ------------------------ The Quest: That said, for us personally, The Quest is our favorite escape room that we've ever done. The beautiful space feels mostly "The Hobbit", but the puzzle-solving made us feel more like Hagrid or Newt Scamander from the Harry Potter world. This was the hardest of the three; I'd recommend trying the others first so you can get to know the minds of the puzzle creators. However, we did this one first and still just made it out, asking for a little more help from the game master than we would have preferred. Area 51: Area 51 had a similar focus on creatures, but with a more modern setting. It was more cryptozoological and less pure UFO than I expected. (Both would have been good with us.) There's nonlinearity where a single person can work one on puzzle at a time, but there were a few puzzles that greatly benefitted from at-least-two-person teamwork, and I had the best time with those. For me, this was the funniest room. Camp Echo: Camp Echo is a fun and funny romp that plays well with the theme of being a kid at summer camp. It combines cute puzzles straight from a kid's brain with campy supernatural elements. My wife wasn't sure that this theme would work, but Camp Echo ended up containing one of her favorite puzzles of the entire trip. I've seen other reviews saying this one was easiest. I don't agree, but it's highly personal. Escape games are all about puzzle recognition, and my mind was most in-tune with those in Area 51. ------------------------ If you're going to be in the Universal area, it's completely worth your 20-minute or so time, plus cost of Lyft/Uber, to venture out to Escape Goat. I wish that they were located further southeast, and that they had more weekday hours, but they're a family-owned escape room and it's understandable. If they could find some way to offer a 3-pack of rooms on a weekday night, that would work really well for vacationers and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat. As it was, we had to go twice, to fit all the rooms in, without having to miss too much time at the parks during Universal's abysmal late November hours. Goat forth and Escape! read more

Orlando has some really amazing Escape Games. I live right near Winter Garden in clermont and decided to support a local escape game room. Well guys, this has been one of the best Escape Games I've been to. I have done 3 out of the 4 rooms and every room is wonderfully themed and has SO MANY thought out puzzles and creative clues. We have done all three rooms. They are all great. At first it was kinda wired having someone in the room with you. But it was really nice when you did need a clue, because they know right where you was and what you already have done. My husband and I had the privilege of playing both escape games that Escape Goat has available. This brand new escape game company truly has great games and while we didn't escape from either of them (we were really close on both), we thoroughly enjoyed both of them. Even when mother nature decided to complicate things a bit with bad stormy weather, they handled everything beautifully (and without giving anything away, it actually worked right into the game like it was an intentional thing).
