Why do people go out to eat? Most likely to have a pleasant time, eat and be waited on. 4 at our table. Service: the waitress was slow and unpleasant. It took 11/2 hours to get the food. Food: 2 out of the 4 did not eat their food it was that bad. The other two were waffles one came 10 minutes after the other waffle. Is this a resturant or a hobby? There was no coffee even though it was on the breakfast menu. We had to ask for silverware after just being given a fork. The butter needs a knife to be spread on the waffle. I can't see how they stay in business. read more

We came here on a Friday night for fish fry. We showed up right after 8 PM. The place was steady but not busy. I have never been here before so we didn't know if we had to seat ourselves or if we had to wait to be seated. Seeing a hostess podium with a table layout made me assume I had to be seated. Apparently that was not the case. After waiting 10 minutes, they finally said from the bar that we could sit wherever we wanted. We finally found a table and waited another 15-20 minutes for somebody to acknowledge our presence. Somebody finally asked if we were being helped. All three of us got fish fry. We all got walleye. Two of us got Cajun seasoning and it was wonderful! The coleslaw was flavorful and very good. The tartar sauce was fantastic and the fish was the right size without feeling stuffed. We all had a cup of clam chowder soup as well; I would get that too if you're here. My review of only giving 3 stars is that the food was fantastic, but the service was lacking. if you don't care about Service and you want good food, this might be the place for you. read more

Service continues to be horrible whether at a table or at the bar. At the bar the servers walk quickly past you never making eye contact to avoid serving you until they feel you've waited long enough. There doesn't seem to be any organization. Servers don't have select sections of the bar for each to maintain, you have to wait for one to finally come your way and hopefully get their attention. The servers also have terrible attitudes as if they can't stand working there. Is the ownership that clueless? read more

This place was such a disappointment and borderline 'Bar Rescue' situation. The amazing looking smokehouse menu on the website was not even presented until I asked. Maybe it was because the brisket was dry, thin, and terrible anyways. It took an hour to get our food. Such a sad end to my first Chicago area experience. read more

We had a great dinner at Ray's Evergreen Pub on Main Street in Saint Charles, Illinois. The server was great, very attentive, and the food was amazing. This is a great gathering place for people on the run or wanting to hang out with friends. There's nothing fancy or updated at this pub. For dining purposes, It was loud and at times hard to hear across our table. For warmer weather they have some great outdoor spaces to gather. Inside, well, the place is well worn and the table was a bit sticky, but the crowd of people gathering there did not seem to care, they were having a good time. On the receipt, it noted that there was a 10% discount if you paid in cash, we liked the wording versus a "10% charge for using a credit card." This is probably a great outdoor dining place in the warmer weather! read more

Recent discovered this place and it's WONDERFUL! Great food, service and atmosphere. When we first came there was a magnificent 7 piece band which was absolutely riveting. So now it's their big 10th anniversary celebration and they selected a band that was the absolute opposite of the spectrum. All originals poorly executed. So much for the big 10th anniversary bash! Gosh, this is a hard one because what was good - was really good! (But there's a bit...) First, service on the patio last Saturday night was awesome and music was fantastic, so we'd return for that. Hubs had a Patty Melt that was huge and delish, all good, right? I'm gluten free and mostly vegetarian so after learning they did not have the vegetarian burger that was on the menu, plan B was a pizza. I was excited to see the GF crust and there were veggie options. Here is there the BUT comes in... I had to pay for each topping because there isn't a pizza that was veggie. I ordered onion, mushrooms, garlic and Tomatoes. I did not know they were $2.50 each making my $18 pizza $28 and the bigger problem is there was barely any veggies on my pizza! Literally could not be more than a scant 1/4 cup total on a 12 inch pizza. I literally counted 14 mushroom and around 12 little cubes of tomatoes, did not taste garlic but there were onions, for +$10 dollars. It's hard living with a Gluten intolerance, we get gouged everywhere we go but then to not fill the pizza with veggies I paid $10 for was a total rip off. I'm super bummed because the sauce was great, crust was good too... so I left feeling gouged and ripped off again. Next time we might eat elsewhere and just come for the music read more

Food was good, but manager parked her car next to the volleyball court and our ball taped her car and she went crazy. After four couples spending over $500 on lunch and giving over 20% tips to our waitress. The manager had the audacity to have an attitude to us for no reason. It seems a little unacceptable and the owner needs to have a talk with her... she is not good for the health of their business. She should have not parked her car near the volleyball courts and not have blamed paying customers for the ball possibly touching her car. It was a good night until she told us to leave the bar. I think you guys need to figure this out cause this is very unprofessional and totally unacceptable! As a resident of Saint Charles with many other choices of bars that would appreciate our patronage, we certainly don't need this attitude from a very unprofessional manager. read more

Had an uneventful even disappointing steak sandwich. $22 for a new york strip from "the butcher block". Steak had gristle on it and med rare is it that difficult to cook. My wife's patty melt that was supposed to be medium was rare. Back to grilling school kitchen staff . Cheese curds were yummy. Beer was cold and our server was amazing. Everything you want . Always attentive and there when you need her. Dining experience diminished by a large group of drunk, obnoxious 30+ year olds at 5 pm. Hope they made it home safely. Been to Ray's at least 10 times. Kelly the bartender, was a wonderful change of pace compared to my last 2 visits where the girl who was working was more concerned about the way she looked than replenishing regulars drinks at the bar, per my last review, I'm guessing she's been working at Forever21 or retail, cuz tending bar is clearly a necessary inconvenience in her life. Had heard some rave reviews of the fish fry here and had been meaning to check it out. We stopped in for dinner on a Friday night. There is a small indoor area and another similar size outdoor area partially under a roof. It was a cool evening, so we decided to head inside. This review was written during COVID and Illinois was under an indoor mask mandate at the time. However, none of the staff were wearing masks and patrons did not wear masks while walking around. If that's a concern of yours, you might want to take that into account. We took a seat at the far end of the bar to keep away from the crowd. Reservations are recommended at this place, and we saw a number of tables with "reserved" signs. We ordered the walleye fried fish dinner. It comes with coleslaw and one side. We ordered the baked beans and waffle fries. The walleye was fantastic and their tartar sauce is pretty good. There is also malt vinegar available. The coleslaw was delicious and appears to be an in-house recipe. On the down side, the baked beans were forgettable and swimming in a sauce that likely may have come from the can (see photo). The waffle fries appeared to have been seasoned in some manner, which detracted from their taste in our opinion. Wish they had a "non-seasoned" fry option. Bottom line is that the fish and slaw were excellent and I'd come back just for those. The crowded quarters and lack of masking made the environment a little uncomfortable and the other side items were just ok though. read more

No fruit, no bbq sauce? Half of your menu is bbq and you are out of your signature sauces? I had lunch here with three friends. It was the first time here for all of us. Since it was Taco Tuesday, and I had read the reviews recommending their fried fish, I opted for three fish tacos, rice and beans as a side. Two of my friends had other tacos and another had a chicken sandwich. While the grilled walleye taco was sort of bland (as grilled fish often are) the two fried perch tacos were quite tasty. Coronas we're on special for 3 dollars. We had a nice time hanging out there, and I believe we all enjoyed our food. Steak was dry and flavorless, ribs were nothing special, cole slaw was probably the worst I've ever tried, and my wife did not receive her vegetables. She had to order a different vegetable, because they were out, and then they were also out of her second choice. Extremely disappointed in service and quality. I'm a regular during the day and have traveled for the better part of 47 years and without question the day bartender Beth is the smartest and quickest wilted woman il've ever met! Her service is impecablle. she remembers everyone that comes in after the first time she meets you. I watch her and she sees the regulars pulling into the parking lot, remembers their names, their wives names, their kids names, what they drink and has it ready when then walk in. the regulars really appreciate that. That is why we go there. I've seen her run the entire bar inside and out without any assistance by herself and never miss a trick. she also makes everyone she serves feel special because off her personality. you definitely want to visit the Evergreen during the day Monday to Friday from 11-5! read more

I really love this place for the food and atmosphere. We had a bridal shower here on 11/22/22...it was FANTASTIC!!! They allowed us to use the front room (the original bar area). It was super clean and Ray's staff gave us the flexibility to decorate. I worked with Debbie on the menu, the timing and the drinks. She was GREAT providing me with insight on the types of popular food, the amounts she thought would be needed for our group, the timing of servings and ideas for drinks. We did have more food than we needed (but we were advised of this in advance) - we were OK with that - we had yummy leftovers to take home! Our menu included a nice salad, mini sliders, mini reubens, pizzas, smoked pulled port, tater tots and cheese curds....everything was amazing! We would have stayed for a good 3 rounds +the food we had, but we got smoked sausage that was jerky dry, pulled chicken had bones in it, burger was well done when ordered medium rare, "bacon" that was more like raw ham, and never got our corn bread. It was supposed to be a short rib brisket burger and i don't think short rib and brisket gets that dry. We would have told our server, but the other server basically threw our plates at us with no words when it was brought out and our actual server never checked back with us once. So we got our bill and paid and left. For $70 for 2 drinks and lunch kind of place that service is unacceptable. Never again. read more

We were hoping for a good fish fry, since their website touts the best fish fry around. But they were out of cod, and we ended up ordering an assortment of sides to get an idea of what they could do. What a disappointment! The baked potato was tiny. The mac and cheese was rubbery - not al dente - and the "cheese" sauce was thin and tasteless. The beans were run of the mill, and the onion rings were overdone. No wonder the waitress didn't bother to come back and check on us! If you're looking for a loud neighborhood bar and you don't mind mediocre food, this might be the place for you. But we won't be back, and we honestly can't recommend it to anyone. read more
