My parents wanted to go out, I've been dying to go to The Explorium Brewpub. I had a few of their beers including "damn thats good" IPA , i met the owner at stubbys, he seemed like a great guy then I went to southridge and saw the brewery. "Oh that looks cool." Another year passes. Finally I see "best wings in milwaukee, prove me wrong". Mike won't see this post but holy shit. He is right. I still have to say explorium ties with points east, and lucky joes. But if you want amazing local beer, attentive staff, and hot/spicy wings that aren't face melting, get the phoenix wings. 10 aren't enough so go on tuesday. Mike is a standup guy, supports milwaukee and had great beer. Go The Explorium Brewpub Southridge and give them a try you won't be disappointed! Tried Explorium at the advice of a family member and really wish we had tried it sooner! We sat at the bar inside & Melissa, our bartender was fantastic! I don't normally put a whole lot of faith in mall restaurants, but they did not disappoint in any way. The Cheese & Ale dip was great & really raises the bar for most restaurants plastic-like cheese dips. But the Bacon Pint...oh the Bacon Pint, was one of the most amazing candied bacons I've ever had....We even ordered seconds! We had the Berry Chicken Salad, which was so fresh & tasty and the All American Burger. I can honestly say that Explorium can really cook a heck of a burger to order. The beef had a wonderful flavor and it was a perfect med-rare. We tried several beers (they literally have a beer for everyone) and they were outstanding as well. It was so refreshing to meet the owner, who took a lot of pride in his restaurant. Overall, Explorium is a beautiful restaurant with fantastic food & drink, made in-house at extremely reasonable prices and even though we live a little distance away, we'll be back again & again. read more

Explorium is a great refreshing local bar/restaurant in a sea of terrible chains at the mall. The decor and design is well thought out, the patio is fantastic, and parking is plentiful. I subtracted one star for the inconsistent service. Each time I've been here it's been a different experience. Out of those, the best place to sit with a small group is at the inside bar. The outside bar is good too, but it does not have a service well to make cocktails and so they have to run inside for those, a minor inconvenience. The food is pretty good, however this time all of our burgers came out well done rather than medium rare. The flavor was still very good though. I've had the meatloaf too, also tasty. They've got a good selection of apps to start your night with or snack on while drinking their freshly brewed beer. read more

My husband and I have been here several times now, and we have had a really good experience every time. The service is great, and the staff is always happy to answer any questions about the food and beer. On our first visit, we had the pleasure of meeting Mike, the owner. He was so gracious and kind to us, and we had a very nice conversation regarding the beers that Explorium was in the process of making. Beer connoisseurs will definitely enjoy the variety of beer that Explorium has to offer. They have a selection that's always on tap, and they have a rotating selection as well. I highly recommend the Peanut Butter Stout. It tastes so much like a Reeses Peanut Butter cup. My personal favorite is the Shackleton's Endurance Barleywine, and I'm so glad that it's always on tap. There's a good variety of food that is offered at Explorium. They have your standard burgers, sandwiches, entrees, soup, and appetizers. However, if you feel so inclined, you can also try some mussels. I have not tried them yet, but I may on a future visit. You can also order pizza, flatbread, or a calzone. The last couple of times, I have opted for the calzone. They are a pretty decent size, and very filling, so I usually take the other half home to eat for lunch the next day. You have the option to create your own, in addition to the ones offered on the menu. On my last visit, I had the Classic Cheese with shrimp added to it. Delish! Very very impressed! This place is absolutely beautiful from the interior to the patio. Was here for a .50 Cal cigar event. As a cigar smoker I appreciate a business that is cigar friendly. But another plus for me is they are also pet friendly. Both on the patio but honestly its so nice and spacious with a huge fire pit that you WANT to be on the patio area. They have an outside bar right there so you don't have to go in. Staff was friendly. Beer was GREAT and the food was good. I would come back again and hopefully often. read more

Excessively long wait for food. I visited with friends 2 weeks ago on a Thursday evening. The restaurant was not overly busy. We were seated right away, drinks were ordered and delivered in good time. Unfortunately our dinners came 35 minutes after ordering. Our server was very nice but no explanation or apology was given for the delay. I chalked this up to a fluke. I had been several times before and had always had a good experience. However, I returned 1 week later with my family. It was a busy Friday night. We waited about 30 minutes before being seated. This was not unexpected on a Friday. Unfortunately we waited 20 minutes for appetizers and then again 35 more minutes for our dinners. Our server PJ was very nice and clearly felt bad about the wait for our food. I had been to the restaurant at least 4 times prior to these experiences. During these previous visits we had very good experiences, great ambiance, fun patio and good food. Sadly, I will hesitate to go back. What I thought was a fluke, may actually be a trend. So disappointing! read more

DO NOT SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT! Unfortunately a few nights ago I dined at the Explorium Brewpub for the very first time. It was utterly disappointing, and slightly sickening. The food was poorly cooked and lacked any type of decent presentation. The only enjoyable aspects of this establishment was the very kind employees. But what really "brew" my disgust for this pub was when I witnessed an act of horrible management. Yes, a successful business should be run with discipline but, a successful business should also be a place where the employees feel safe and can work well together. When I saw the announcement for this place I was skeptical, mostly because it was one of another dozen breweries and brewpubs announced to open. Some of them see the light of day and when they do, they may not be worth the visit. What seemed to be an almost forgetable announcement was enhanced by a discussion that the owner gave at a tasting event I had attended - someone that passionate and dedicated deserved my visit, and what followed was some pretty good beer! More than the beer, was the attention that we recieved upon dining here. We sat near the bar, at the pizza stove and the humor and candor of the pizza cooks turned in to some seriously spot on recommendations! The hosts and server was fantastic as well! The Explorium is good if you're coming for drinks, but extremely sub-par with the food. Food is average at best. I've given it a chance 4 different times, and each time have left thinking I could have made a better meal at home. Good beer though, and nice atmosphere. My brother and I stopped in for a drink and dessert shortly before close. Actually, he stopped in for a drink, I tagged along and found cookie heaven. Explorium closes at 9 on Sundays and we walked in around 830, but all the staff was very welcoming. We sat at the bar and got the cookie sundae (it's called something better on the menu) and it was delicious! My brother tried a handful of beers and had no complaints about any of them. As a non-drinker, there were still plenty of options including a full bar and wine! Already better than a lot of other brew pubs where us non-beer-drinkers are left out. What really made our night was the manager, Jeff. My brother ordered an IPA and was curious about the reasoning behind the glass it was served in. Without missing a beat, Jeff explained how the glass was different to really enhance the overall experience. He went on to show us other beer glasses and taught us both quite a lot! He was super friendly, as was our bartender whose name escapes me, and we enjoyed their company. This was our first time at Explorium, but we will be back! All in all, great atmosphere (even if you don't drink), yummy dessert, and cool staff. read more

The meatball appetizer is really good. Drinks are not bad. There were about 4 tables filed at the bar and our server was in training. Yet he did not say that he was. There was a female server behind him writing everything down as well. We ordered the bottomless bloody Mary's and it took them way too long to notice that we needed a refill. Then 10 minutes after that we got our drinks. Because the bartender was busy chatting with customers to fill drink orders. The bartender who's name behind with an "M" was very loud and the only one behind the bar. I understand training isn't easy in any profession but when you have 3 tables and can't keep up then it becomes an issue. The food was good but the service was sub par. read more

First visit here. Party of 7 on a Friday, we were sat right away and the server Steve was very friendly and accommodating. No problems there. Loved the large draft beer selection and the big list of cocktails (the little images of the cocktails were cute). The drinks: all drafts were short-poured with one maybe two inches of empty space at the top. And I don't mean that was a foamy head taking up space. I mean empty empty. This was especially noticeable on my glass which was really skinny at the bottom and bulb'd out at the top. A good two inches of dead space. There was no way there was 10-12 ounces in that "16 ounce" draft. I've never had draft beer that wasn't poured to the brim, foamy head or otherwise. I also ordered an Old Fashioned which as pictured on the little menu is in a short glass, as standard. I specifically told Steve, I don't want it sweet or pressed or any other watered down nonsense. I received a pint glass of old fashioned that yes had been topped with Sprite I guess and was mostly ice. Not as pictured and not as requested. Trust me, I've drank about 1000 old fashioneds in my time. The food: Friday, so fish fry, right? Most people in my group ordered the walleye or perch and those looked fine. Nothing terribly exciting or in large Wisconsin-y proportions for the $16 price. I ordered the standard fish-n-chips because I wanted fried cod. I got two fairly small pieces sitting on some fries. The underside of the fish was soggy as in wet. The fries were just barely warm, not crisp. Very underwhelming. In fact, nobody's food appeared to be piping hot at all. The burger eater next to me had a burger that looked barely warm, judging from the cheese. You know how cheese looks when its stopped melting and it reverting to solid form? Yeah, that. I'm not planning on coming back here. If I do, I'm skipping the food. Maybe I'll sit at the bar so I can make sure my drink is made as requested and the glass is full of beverage, not ice or air. read more

1st time here. I was just perusing yelp and we were nearby. I didn't even read the reviews just glanced at the rating. They have indoor or outdoor seating. We sat inside with the AC. We were greeted and taken to a table and started in on the menu. I wanted a burger or fish fry so we ordered one of each. The Friday fish fry and brew burger were excellent. I mean perfect. The texture of the fish was perfect. The burger was grilled and seasoned great as well. Flavors were on point. The sides of fries and potato pancakes also excellent. I need to mention the manager stopped by our table several times to make sure we were taken care of. Our waitress was super friendly and had recommendations ready if we needed help. We paired with the Hefe Weiss, the Lewis and Clark lager and white wine Sangria. This will not be our last time but our first date. This review is costing me because I'm sitting in Chico's typing and the wife is filling a shopping bag. Sorry my pictures do not do this place justice. I checked out the new restaurant on a whim this evening with friends. I had an awesome experience over all. The beer was amazing and really happy to see taupat kombuchca on tap. The bartenders and wait staff served us in a polite timely manor while keeping the conversations real. They were very helpful on helping find a beer that fit my taste. I will definitely be back. I look forward to trying the new beers and other food items on the menu. 5 stars from me. You must check it out! read more

Good beer. Good food. Average service. Last night I stopped by the Explorium for the first time. They were running a special on their beers as they were clearing the tap lines, so the place was busy. Even so, my party of four was able to get a table right away and place our initial order with no trouble. I tried the porter, which was rich and creamy with a subtle cocoa/coffee background note. I loved it. My friends tried a couple of the Explorium's lighter beers and found them easy to drink, as well. Then we ordered food. The appetizer was odd; a cheese curd with lemon/hop oil. It wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't order it again. After apps came the meals. I ordered the Signature dish: Mussels Provençal. It was very tasty with a strong garlic and white wine flavor. All in all, I was impressed. The only (small) letdown was the service which was spotty, but that was easily attributed to the fact that our server was trying to cover a section that was far too large. With time, they will figure out how to better section the floor and that issue should dissipate. read more

This is hard to write but this was the worst dinner we have had here I have been a mug member for a long time .my wife ordered the fish and chips and I had a Nashville hot chicken sandwich which tasted like fish we had a very nice server who explained that the chicken and fish are fried sometimes in the same oil? I did not eat the sandwich and it was removed from our bill which I appreciate . my wife felt the Fish was overcooked and dry so from now on I'll skip this place on Fridays . Fun little gem tucked inside of Southridge Mall. Great variety of beers, along with an ever rotating tap selection. They have lots of indulgent appetizer options, including my favorite big * pretzel (yum)! They have a great selection of pizza-like options (flatbreads, calzones, etc), burgers, sandwiches and more. The service was good and the food was tasty. A great place to catch a game, with their great TV setup too. Really fun looking patio out front, but unfortunately the 2 times we went it wasn't open yet. It's a really enjoyable, unexpected spot...especially to find adjoined to a mall! read more

Stopped in yesterday afternoon for a brew flight & app. Tried the lager, scotch ale, porter & barleywine. Service: A Immediate seating plus friendly servers (helpful explanation of menu given that it was a first time visit. Ambience: A- Good "exploration" continuity, from the artwork to the explorers in the beer's name. Food/Drinks: B+ Had the bread/butter with the beers. Honey butter was too sweet for my taste; would have liked a second dish with regular butter. Beers were good - the barleywine (12% ABV) was really good! First review I've ever written....was meeting here with family at 630 on a Monday night, my brother was already there and had been waiting for a few minutes before my wife, daughter and myself showed up, my brother had out our names in for a table of 6 and a high chair before he ordered a beer. After my brother finished his beer we went to wait in the front for our table. After about 15 min my brother asked for the status, they said they were working on it but took his information again as if we had just showed up. Another 10 min went by and my cousin had showed up, we were still waiting for a table so we approached a waitress again who was apologetic but said she was in the kitchen and didn't know who we talked to, we pointed her out and she said she would get us a table. Another 10 min went by and we had finally sat down. Everything seemed like it was moving in slow motion here, food was meh, at the end they offered a free drink on the house....but at this point it was 8:20 and already past my daughters bedtime so we had to leave without the drink. This was the second time we had been there, first time was the same thing with the excessively long wait on a weeknight when the place looks like it's nowhere close to being busy. The service is 4 stars, the beer is 4 stars, and the rest of the menu with exception of the fish fry is 4 stars. The Friday Fish fry was not great. I am unsure what fish they use, but the texture was just off. Also, I found it to be very greasy. I have had other things from here that were quite enjoyable. Told they had a 45 minute wait however there were 4 empty tables. We walked the mall and returned at that time. Then we were told another 15 minutes but at least 3 tables were open then as well. We waisted our time and never ate at the restaurant. If you doozy want to be sat and like waiting an hour when there are empty tables then that's the place for you! read more

We stopped by for Valentines Day lunch, today. The service was very, Very, VERY slow! It seemed like everybody was waiting a long time for their food. BUT, there were four guys messing around making beer in the brew master viewing area! My thought is, if they don't start giving better service, they may have no reason to continue making beer! My wife ate the BLAT sandwich (bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato) and I had the Sconnie (grilled cheese w/ tomato and bacon). Both were very good, however my wife wasn't a huge fan of the sourdough bread. I was!! The French fries that came with the sandwiches were awesome!! I was a little shocked to find out when the bill came that I was charged for refills on my soda. It was not very busy while we there, so to explain how slow the service was...an elderly couple sat down and ordered their food about halfway through our lunch stay. Just before we finished up, they received the wrong food, and sent it back. We left the restaurant and wandered about the mall for a bit. About 30-45 minutes later, as we passed by again on our way out of the mall, they were just getting their food!! For a new place, they've got some serious service issues! A mall brewhouse that is pretty decent and very popular in the area mainly because there aren't too many places as spacious and welcoming as this period this place is located in the local mall and they make their own beerwith various styles then all seem interesting. I have been here many times now since they have opened and for some reason still haven't written a review?! Well, let me start by stating the obvious that they have a lot of great craft beer here. In addition to the full time tap list they are constantly cranking out new and exciting beers for everyone's pallet. Not just 5,000 IPAs with stupid names but porters, stouts, bitters, sours, ales, lagers, kombucha beer. I could go on. What's great about this place is that not only are they kicking out the jams but they do a good job at it! Lots of brew pubs that make a lot of styles play them all really safe and you don't get to experience the beer because it all more or less tastes the same but with different food coloring. This place has real good beer. They also have a full bar so if beer isn't your thing you can still get a stiff drink. At the time of this review they also have little firkins if barrel aged manhattans and barrel aged old fashions so you can booze it up real nice like. Once you have the drinks all figured out, the full menu of food is coming at you and they do a lot of good American standards. Additionally is there big ass fancy fired pizza oven. So if you want a great pizza and great beer you're in the right place. Be aware that is pretty much always packed in here and you may have to wait for a table but I've never been sad about what I put into my face while I'm here so give it a go. We had stopped into the mall and needed a quick bite to eat. After seeing the food court typical blandness, I yelped restaurants close to me. The Explorium popped up and we took a chance. So glad we did. The beer options are outstanding. Root beer was good. I opted for white sangria and it was delicious. The fried cheese curds were outstanding. We tried the potato leek soup, carnita tacos, bbq pork sliders and the Capri baguette. All were so good. The beer chips are delicious. Our service was good and fast as well. Great tasting food! We dined inside. Outside was pretty busy and everyone seemed to be having a good time! We order the cheese curds for an app and were not disappointed! I had the pretzel crusted walleye, delicious. My husband had the fish fry and our daughter got a burger. Both dined happily with their meals as well. We have been here a few times, and really enjoy the beer and atmosphere for being in a mall. There is a cool fire pit and outdoor bar as well. We haven't been very big fans of the food however. For $16 I would have liked for my salad to have the proper amount of dressing on it, and chicken that wasn't burnt. The waitress I had clearly did not want to be there, she had a serious attitude problem and barely came back to the table to check in on us. My girlfriend and I decided we wanted some good beer and food so we decided to give this place another try. We ordered the cheese board (cheese and charcuterie) minus the meat which was great, and I love how accommodating they were for us vegetarians. I would of hoped we would of had a slight mark down on the bill for excluding the meat, but the cost on the bill was still $15 even though we didn't get meat. I hope they add a simple cheese board to the menu in the future! We also had two side salads with orange vinaigrette and the hummus appetizer. The hummus appetizer came with fresh "hearth" bread, and it was very delicious. Overall our experience was better then our first, as we steered clear of the meatless wings and black bean burger. We will definitely keep visiting for beers and snacks and to see if they add further vegetarian options. And as always the service, atmosphere, and beer was great. read more
