Better late than never! I visited The Eye Society last summer for a dry/itchy yet watery eye that was only getting worse by the day. It was a tricky time of year for booking (summer, near the July 4th holiday) but I had no trouble booking my appointment through zocdoc. The location is close to home and the eye exam was thorough. I was able to discuss my concerns with the assistant and with the examining doctor, with instructions to return in one week for a follow-up appointment. I walked away from my appointment with the Optase eye drops for my chronic dry eye. These drops work so much better than the drugstore drops I had been using and have become a medicine cabinet must-have. It was also recommended that I purchase a microwavable, reusable heat mask, also in the Optase product line. This is so much less hassle to prepare than the washcloth hot compress, so I find myself using it as prescribed. The mask even comes with a drawstring carrying pouch, perfect for travel. Moreover, the doctor took time to explain my options, from over-the-counter remedies to scheduling an outpatient visit to install punctal plugs in the tear ducts. Prior to this visit, I had no idea this option existed, and would certainly trust The Eye Society to handle the procedure if I decide to go this route. read more

I had an outstanding experience at Eye Society and wanted to share. For three years, I visited multiple doctors to address my difficulty seeing with multifocal contacts, with little success. After just one visit with Dr. Mago, she fitted me with a pair of contacts that immediately allowed me to see both near and far clearly. Two weeks later, my vision remains excellent, and I only wish I had come to her sooner. The staff was also extremely welcoming and professional. DONT COME FOR CONTACT FITTINGS. Been coming here for a few years now but a recent eye exam with a new doctor (Turner) left me feeling rushed and undervalued as a patient. Will be switching providers. Also had SAME experience as Grant Z's review. Issue with billing for a premium fitting when I don't qualify for premium fitting. I wear regular contact lenses. Bill was 3x more expensive. When I asked questions the man at the front desk (with a spade tattoo behind his right ear) was quite harsh and condescending and not gracious in the slightest toward the situation. The other administrative woman tried to blame the insurance company "they tell us to bill any contact appointment this way" - my insurance company apologized and said differently. read more

Be warned! Sneaky billing practices and shockingly rude staff. I came in for a routine eye exam and standard contact lens fitting. I became confused when I was told my copay was much higher than I expected based on my benefit plan. Turns out, they bill every contact lens fitting as a premium fitting (eg, for astigmatism, multifocals, etc), even when I didn't need one and only needed a standard lens exam. When I asked more questions to understand why this was the case, the front desk staff said "we are a private practice and this is how we bill". Worse yet, when I asked questions or pushed back saying that I did not need a premium fitting, one of the front desk staff then became super hostile and started berating me with "if you don't like it, you can go somewhere else!". He then walked to his back office, and (while very much still within earshot!), I could hear him making rude personal comments about me and my insurance plan. I was honestly shocked at this level of inappropriate behavior and decided to leave without finishing the appointment. I can't speak to the clinicians' abilities or bedside manner since I never saw them, but that interaction with the front desk alone made me never want to go back here. read more

Honestly "The Eye Society" has been one of the best experiences of my life and I will always be Forever thankful. As soon as you walk in the facility front desk is as welcoming as It can get very respectful. I love the fact that they reminded me at all times of my future appointments so I would not miss. Dr. Mago is the Best I Lasix surgery done on both eyes which were pretty high in stigmatism. she double checked all the tests that were done to me prior to my Lasik surgery just to make sure on the double check that the doctor that was to perform my Lasik surgery had the right measurements and there would be no mistake done. after my Lasic surgery I did my follow up with Dr. Mago and with the greatest news I fully recovered my vision and I no longer need glasses nor contacts thank you so much Dr. Mago and staff (my friend Natali) thank you so much. read more

I was looking for an eye doctor in the neighborhood and I found this place. They took extra effort to contact my vision insurance and made sure I had maximum benefits. Dr. Mago was nice and very professional. I also asked about the possibility of getting LASIK surgery next year, she was very candid and told me it's better to wait it out for a few more years. In the end, they also walked me through my bill to make sure I understand fully what's been charged and what options I have. Again, Eye Society provided me with excellent care and customer service at my annual eye appointment. While I had seen other doctors at this practice in previous years that lead to my 4 star review, I was back to seeing Dr Mago and she's the best. She's personable, listens, and carefully explains what's she sees with my eyes compared to my old exams. She also has made suggestions on how to deal with getting older and dwindling eyesight that's slightly frustrating but not overly problematic (the joys of old age). Her team too is top notch. They call ahead of time to verify insurance and have everything ready to go when you walk in- efficiency is key when you are going to see the eye doctor on your lunch break. While the glasses are on the higher end, Becca and her team will crunch the numbers and be completely transparent about costs so you can make an informed decision about how to use eye benefits and maximize savings. Do not buy frames here! (or check the internet prices before purchasing anything here) While Eye society is an excellent place to get your eyes checked, they really rip you off. My husband and I went in for our annual eye exam and we found out we both have about $200 credits that we can use for new glasses from insurance. So I decided to get Dior sunglasses which were $600 and my husband got a Tom Ford frame for his new daily glasses which was $550 (just for the frames). Long story short, I found out my dior sunglasses were $264 online and my husband also found that his Tom Ford frame was $130 online. We didn't expect to pay wholesale or online prices at Optometrist in downtown but we also didn't expect to pay that much more. The location is convenient. The doctor we saw was very nice and took her time to explain everything. The staff who helped us were also very nice and thorough with explaining our insurance, copays and pricing. Before we found out how much we paid extra for the frames, we were super happy with the experience. We called right after to see if we can get refunds, they said the manager would call. It's been a week and no one called us. We didn't know buying frames from optometrist means them ripping you off to make excessive profits. Maybe everyone knows this. Next time we need new glasses we will get frames from online and get the lenses from optometrists. I did't mind paying extra for convenience but $420 is just too much. read more

Don't recommend this place if you are used to customer service of any kind. Almost $500 on glasses that broke within 6 months of light use. When i showed up to have them fixed surprise they charged me and didn't even mention that until after i made an appointment checked in and again explained the problem and then they fixed it. Told me that glasses should break every 6 months. No one cares here. read more

I have been going to the Eye Society since 2012. Even though I moved to CA in 2015, I will still visit to have my eyes examined and get new glasses. This review is about my most recent experience with them in June 2018. First, the office style is very classy. They put a lot of time and effort into their office design and it is very welcoming as a patient. The staff is extremely helpful; they answer emails in less than 24 hours for appointments and needed paperwork. The doctors are knowledgeable and answer all questions. I was on the lookout for a new contact since the current ones dry out easily. I was given ample trial pairs and suggested a great lens for daily wear! Additionally, I wanted some new frames. I decided on a new pair of Gucci. I was only in town for a few days and the staff member put the order on rush at no additional cost. When I received 3-4 days later, the anti-reflective coating had some minor imperfections. The staff members readily helped me, had the AR coating redone and mailed to me with priority shipping. Overall, a great experience and will continue to go out of my way to come here! read more

For ppl with complicated vision issues, ..high power, astigmatism, bifocals, ..this is may not be the place to go. The staff seems poorly trained and don't fully go over all the options to fit the best lenses. If you don't know to ask, they will use default settings which may not be right, Also, the staff gets defensive and condescending rather than fully trying to understand issues. read more

Scleral Specialty Lenses. As mentioned in my prior review, Dr Mago and I were discussing scleral lenses, which she explained would further improve my vision and cause less dryness of the eyes throughout the day. As someone that wears their contacts for 14-16 hr days, the soft contacts would inevitably cause dry eyes. Finally, i decided to give Scleral Lenses a try! Best decision. My vision is now a 20/10. Much more comfortable, less dryness throughout the day. The office was so accommodating during my first time trying them on. I was able to put them in and take them off myself within 20 mins. Each eye was checked for fit and vision. Eye Society has gone above and beyond to get me the best vision possible. read more

If you do not support racism, do not support this store. I entered the store one day as a Canadian of African descent, who was at the time working in the loop with a consulting company. I was looking for a new frame and cycling through multiple pairs of frames I was interested in as people often do. I put everything back after looking, asked the lady at the desk a few questions about my coverage, then proceeded to leave the store. Within about 30 seconds of leaving the store, the building's security guard approached me when I was already on the sidewalk on my way to a physical therapy appointment, and said that the girls in the store wanted to see me. I then walked into the store with him and I was confronted by the lady that was working at the desk along with another lady who worked there that immediately asked me to give back the frame that I stole. Having obviously not stolen anything, I patted myself down, and explained that I hadn't taken anything, but the lady vociferously insisted that she saw me put a frame in my pocket. Already late for my PT appointment at this time, I agreed to sit in the lobby while they attempted to go over the surveillance. After about 5 minutes, both ladies came back saying that they weren't able to access the surveillance system until their manager came back, but they had my contact info since I provided them with my insurance plan details. I was told I would get a call from their manager as soon as they could prove that I stole something. At that point in time, I asked for the ladies' names, shook their hands, then attempted to leave the store and carry on with my day. I walked towards the exit that the security guard was standing by, and he cuts me off. He asks me if I'm sure that I didn't steal anything. Although I was livid at this point, I cordially respond that I'm sure and he proceeds to follow me out of the store and outside where he continues to observe me until I find a cab and head to my appointment. For the ensuing 2 weeks, I would call asking to speak to the manager and I was always told he was busy and promised that he'd call back. He has yet to call back. If you can avoid purchasing frames from this establishment, I would highly suggest that you do so. There are many great alternatives nearby (ie, SEE Eyewear, Rosin Eyecare, Custom Eyes, Optica,etc). Irrespective of your political views, gender, orientation, skin color, etc, I would hate to see any other human-being feel or be treated in a similar fashion to the way that I was on that day. Their selections are great, the prices are reasonable and service is fantastic. From the front line employees to the Doctors. Natalie and Dr Mago are one of the main reasons why I have stayed loyal to this business. I bought 2 pair of prescription glasses, clear and sunglasses, and was told would have them in 7-10 days. Regular clear glasses came through but sunglasses took about a month. While delays are understandable, the problem I had was a total lack of communication by the staff. Multiple phone calls and messages not returned. Several times I was told they would call the lab and get back to me with an update and no call and no reply back until I called again and repeated the cycle. I asked for one of the doctors to call me back and they never did. Staff clearly didn't keep notes in my file or communicate with each other as I had to re-explain the situation multiple times. No one at Eye Society displayed any accountability, they just blamed it on the lab. Doctor was nice enough, selection was ok, prices were no better than other similar shops so there wasn't anything here that I would come back for. Poor customer service so would avoid.
