I've long wanted to visit The Fableist Wine tasting room in Paso. We came in early, midweek, and tasted from the standard tasting menu -- approximately 5 wines. I really didn't care for any of them -- most of them were not the mainstream varietals - they were a bit too funky/ different for my tastes. I love the branding, but felt to make a connection here with the wines. Super cute tasting room full of the unique branding that makes this wine a fun wine. Next time, I'd come back and picnic under the trees and buy a few bottles of their standard wines for $25. I didn't really care for the funkier wines served in the wine tasting room. Perhaps that's me, perhaps you'll enjoy it. read more

This is the cutest winery in the area. They offer very private feeling tasting rooms with unique and intentional decoration. They have a book with fables that has every fable they reference in their wines. We had an absolute great experience here and would recommend this place to anyone in the area. The staff were very nice and helpful! They wines were good, but of course we all had our own personal favourites. In general, we all loved their sparkling Rose! Fablest is a little-known gem in Paso Robles that we stumbled upon by sheer luck, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable wine-tasting experiences we had. The space itself is incredibly quaint, tastefully decorated, and full of charming corners perfect for Instagram reels and photos. The server who guided our tasting was not only sweet but also very knowledgeable about the wines, which made the whole experience even better. One of the highlights of Fablest is the setup. You can sit outside and enjoy views of the vineyards or choose a cozy table inside for a more intimate tasting. Each wine is given a number that ties back to a story, a fable, which is such a unique and fun touch that makes the tasting more engaging. Tastings are usually $25 per person for three pours, but our server generously offered us five, and even comped the tasting when we purchased a few bottles. There is ample parking, the wines are worth taking home, and the whole vibe feels personal and thoughtfully designed. I Wasn't as impressed with the tasting as I have been with other wineries in the area, but there's somewhat simplistic and affordable wines are fabulous. We really love our homemade candles. Also, you CANNOT beat the beautiful scenery of oak trees and vineyards that run as far as your eyes can see. Stumbled upon this gem whilst in the area and it could not have been a more pleasant experience. We arrived earlier than opening time (Apple Maps told us they were already open, but it was an hour off), and they kindly hurried to serve us early. While I'm not a major wine connoisseur, I found a several bottles that I quite enjoyed. Aesthetically pleasing, lovely views, a vintage train, and friendly service... The Fableist is definitely worth a stop when in the Paso Robles area. Connecting an Aesop's fable to each bottle also massively appealed to myself (writer) and my friend (librarian). read more

I originally tried this place at Tin City back in 2020. I really enjoyed the wine that when I went back to Paso, I wanted to go to the tasting room/vineyard. The space itself is really cute, and the indoor space is perfect. The wines are great, so much so that one of our friends became a member after tasting their wine. Really disappointed with our experience on 12/6. My dad (who is a member) made a reservation for wine tasting at 3:15. We arrived and the two young ladies working there informed us there was no such reservation made and that they were closing and getting ready to leave (mind you they close at 5). They repeatedly told us we "must have gone to the wrong winery" and refused to look up my dad's membership. We explained we were members and they looked at us as if we were lying. Instead of still offering to do the tasting (since they were supposed to be open for another 2 hours almost) they kept hinting that we were at the wrong place and they were locking up. Extremely poor customer service, especially towards a paying member. I had every intention of becoming a member that day as well, but not anymore. My dad also mentioned he will be canceling his membership after this experience. We were both planning on buying cases, but I guess that was not something they were interested in. As we were walking back to our cars one of the ladies came outside and said "so you did go to the wrong winery?" and we let her know we didn't, but they were essentially pushing us out. She could care less. I guess if they don't feel like serving wine that day they will just send you away. Terrible experience. read more

I visited this winery with a friend and her brother that is in the military in December. It was a fun experience. Lennie explained each wine in detail and how each wine is named after Aesop's fables. What a fun concept. The winery is lovely and the wine was great. We had a charcuterie tray which was delicious. The wines were affordable which is difficult to find these days on the central coast. This is the perfect relaxed personal winery for a tasting any time of day. We stopped before a wedding and were the only people in our area. It was so peaceful and welcoming in the garden, and it was such an amazing experience. There were very good reds and whites in the tasting. I discovered The Fableist Wine in my former, but not forgotten life as a Wine Specialist at a smaller SoCal (Southern California) Wine Shop retail chain known as Mission Wine & Spirits...The Fables as you will really catch your eye right away with detailed artwork of various animals and objects, as well as signature numbered labels. The Fableist Wine has produced some incredible retired vintages and varietals such as the 053 Petite Sirah, known for its wooden buddle imagery and impressive pallet impact... A little powerful if you're not a regular wine partaker, but still beyond impressionable like the many others that followed in their classic style line up including their Tempranillo, Cabernet, Merlot, Malbec, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Blanc de Blanc, Albarino, and Rose (all day!)... Yes, I've had them all!!! And now I've had a few of the reserves courtesy of the full tasting experiences at this amazing winery and event venue in Templeton, California aka Paso Robles parallel. If you're ever lucky enough to be in or visit the Paso Robles area in San Luis Obispo County... You definitely need to add this wonderful place to your list. Full of acres of lush growing vines, the old Santa Fe Railroad tracks, and carts, amazing outdoor scenic seating on the patio deck, front lawn and all-around (great photo ops) as well as easy parking and one of the most stylish and cleanest restroom facilities you'll ever enjoy. Brandon, our wine aficionado, was an amazing tasting host, walking us through each reserve on the list... He was both engaging and charming. Plenty of beats between each pour for a wonderful experience. My top reserve picks are definitely: - Reserve Sparkling Rose 2019 - (pinot noir based beauty) - Reserve Chardonnay 2018 - (super balanced super crowd-pleaser) - R. Old Portero Red Blend 2020 - (All I want for Christmas is you!) But all were quite enjoyable. The tasting is $20 per person and you're welcome to bring whatever snacks and outside beverages you enjoy. You can purchase any of their bottles to offset the tasting fee as well as additional wines you enjoy as well and your tasting credit applies to any wines you do. I ended up going with two classics for me and my sister as her birthday is coming up and this trip was a partial treat to her. We enjoyed so much here and at neighboring areas in this amazing area that I decided to hold off on a reserve for my mini home collection until our next visit or even for the Holidays. Came here on a Monday and it was too hot to sit outside (about 95 degrees or so). It would've been nice since the grounds have a nice view. Not much seating outside, but very intimate seating inside like you're a guest in someone's home. We were served with many different styles of wine that came along with fables. There is nothing like sipping on some wine while looking through a seemingly endless vineyard. So peaceful and relaxing. We didn't have a reservation but we were able to do a walk-in tasting. The lady who greeted us also did our wine tasting and she was very knowledgeable about their wines as well as the fables associated with them. Their wine list is within a cute booklet with the list of their reserves which you'll do during the tasting, followed by some fables and stories. On a recent trip to Paso Robles with a few friends, we stopped by the idyllic Fableist vineyards for an incredible wine tasting. My friend is a member and called ahead to setup our reservation for four and ensure there was availability at the venue. After crossing under the beautiful canopy of trees, we entered one of the brick buildings and were greeted by a lovely server that guided us to our private room. On the fireplace a large red ax was mounted, with that image echoed on a favored bottle of wine on the mantle below. Several bookcases were wedged in the room's corners toting various tomes, and we took our seats at the central wooden table fitted with numerous chairs. A menu and table book of fables offered tremendous tales to pair with our wines, and before we knew it a charcuterie board was placed before our eyes, the first glass of bubbly was poured, and our tasting had commenced. The entire experience from start to finish was superb. We closed our tasting by basking in the glow of the evening sun from a picnic table, gazing at the rows and rows of grapes dotting the picturesque vista, on a balmy summer afternoon in the countryside. read more

The spot is exactly what you would envision in your mind , wine tasting surrounded by grapes on the Vine stretching as far as you can see. We've visited Themis winery twice this year, in the rain and in the sun. The wine is excellent and each bottle offers a Aesop fable reference adding to the vibe. They offer small charcuterie boxes but can run out. The service has been excellent both times. Once with Ryan and the 2nd time with David. I came for my birthday and once with family who also loved the experience. They offer a place to stay also, I'm a local so I haven't tried that part yet. They have beautiful oak trees, almonds and walnuts that surround the property. Don't forget to walk around back and check out their old trains. Great spot for a picnic. Turns out ...this hidden gem is beautiful and cozy! I am already a fan of their wines, but this environment made it even more special! There are so many areas to chill at... Open outdoor sitting areas with fountains or inside with different seating areas. There isn't a counter to stand at and wine taste. Which i love! You can relax and either wine taste or just order a bottle! At $20 for any bottle, you can't beat it! I love their Zinfandel, Merlot and Pinot Noir. I signed up for the club of course! I get 20% off! Enter The Fableist with its 10 am opening! I came here this morning with my toddler and SO. The only other party present sat inside so my toddler dominated the front lawn while Mama and Dada had their wine. Host Christie was just lovely and very accommodating, even bringing small toys to entertain baby. The venue is beautiful with lots of vines and blooming cherry blossom trees. This place was advertised as a "family friendly" winery. My 2-year-old was running, tripped and bumped his head on the concrete and began crying, as a toddler does normally. Dave, the sever for the table next to us was sure to apologize to his table for having the children around. He said it loud enough for us to hear.
