Over my last 10 years, I have been in a struggle to find answers to permanent lifestyle changes, weight loss, muscle building and improving my health. All because, I was lost for DIRECTION and TRUTH that I can trust to make these changes. I have been through meniscus surgery in my right knee, bypass surgery and I still could not find a solution to change and reverse my situation. I still had knee pain and a lack of energy .....UNTIL April 19, 2018. I found my answers at THE FACILITY - FOR PERSONAL TRAINING in Boca Raton owned by a father-daughter team, Fred and Narisa Steinberg. Prior to my new adventure, I have been walking and walking (feeling like Forest Gump), and with the knowledge of a lifetime of weight lifting for sports or conditioning, OR WHAT I THOUGHT I HAD KNOWLEDGE OF, tried to do this myself, not knowing the secrets to unlocking my true potential. I worked with trainers at local gyms with what they called "TRAINERS", that have no knowledge of anatomy orthopedically or otherwise. I even tore my meniscus as a result of a training session with a trainer who pushed me indefinitely. THE FACILITY only hires trainers with four year degrees in Exercise Science, Physiology and Kinesiology. Only professionals are aloud to train their clients. The equipment is state of the art, custom built for safety and minimal joint pressure, geared only to apply stress on specific muscle groups, and after one month, I realized that in a one hour training session, I may do 20 to 30 different combinations of muscle building techniques with their weight machines and a combination of free weights and TRX techniques using my own body weight, only concentrating on one to two muscle groups per session. The Facility is a complete GOAL ORIENTED program. When you first start, they use the IN BODY analysis, which measures your whole body composition, of BODY FAT MASS vs. LEAN BODY MASS (Muscle), BMI (Body Mass Index) and PBF (Percent Body Fat). IN BODY even tracks a "Segmental Fat Analysis" and "Segmented Lean Analysis" which tells me the composition in separate body parts (TRUCK, LEGS , ARMS). Lastly and most important, every month after I train I redo the test to see how much body fat is lost and how much muscle mass is gained to develop a Body Composition History. Then the the work began!!! Fred assigned a personal trainer, John, who I would be working with 3 times a week. All well and good, but the program is set up such that the client and the trainer work as a TEAM to accomplish these goals. He is responsible for my results by knowing how far to push me to my next level for conditioning and muscle building, but I am responsible for my lifestyle outside The Facility in regards to how I eat, knowing my food groups to eats, and the foods within those groups. The trainers MUST succeed, and if they do, they get bonuses for your results. If they don't then you are assigned to a trainer that WILL get you the results, no questions asked. John has helped me understand my body, has showed me what each motion or segment of training does to each body part, makes sure that positioning is done right to accomplish the goal intended, and even discusses Nutrition to help guide proper nourishment during training. He pushes me to new levels, building new on new muscle. The Facility is not a "workout gym" but is a very medium size, professional, clean and well organized operation designed to meet the goals of the client. Many orthopedic doctors, cardiologists, nurses, professional athletes from all over come here to take control of their health and their life. Upstairs there is a men's and woman's locker room with a bathroom and shower. Towels are supplied by The Facility. There is also a lounge upstairs with a big screen TV to relax if you have time. The Facility is ranked #50 in the nation for a physical fitness facility by Men's Health and Yelp and #1 in the State of Florida. There is no membership fee or set commitment for sessions required. They will refund the money if sessions are payed in advance and not used. I pay for one month at a time for my 3 sessions a week. I want to give John a big Shout Out and THANK YOU, for the success so far in my first month. RESULTS: Lost 11 pounds of body fat, reduced my Body Fat Mass by 3%, Gained 1 pound of lean muscle and lost 7.5 lbs. on the IN BODY analysis, 10 lbs on my home scale. This is the way to train ! Clean and direct training facility, hence the name, that offers one on one training by appointment only. No memberships. No contracts. No gimmicks. Straight forward and to the point. Most gyms have ridiculous cancellation requests or waiting periods and you don't realize until you're in that process and it becomes a frustration because it's in the "fine print" but Not here ! Fred, the owner, is to the point in what they are and who they are. It's a beautiful and clean facility ! CLEAN is an understatement !! This gym is a Boutique style facility that targets your goals in what you're trying to accomplish. If you're unsure, it's okay! They are very detailed in their assessments and ask you the questions that you were most likely not going to or know to ask. I had my first two assessments with Narissa, Fred's daughter, and Alec. They're both great ! Narissa is high energy and wants you to be comfortable throughout your assessment not pushing you too hard to see where you're at. Her and Alec discussed target areas for myself that needs to be worked on and tightened up. Although I haven't had too many sessions since I just went on a 2wk vacation but the few that I did, I know I'll be able to get back in to the swing of things and start my training again. I've been working one on one with Alec. Even though he's newer to the gym, he's really great! Flexible with times and making sure to ask how I feel after each work out that he provides to me to accomplish. If I need maybe a little more/less weight he works with me and doesn't push me to strain myself. Sometimes, less is more people ! Narisa is always very encouraging and has a vast knowledge of her profession. The Facility runs opposite the cookie cutter fitness center formulae that have gone, well, pretty badly. I've had 5 surgeries in 5 years - 2 cervical neck, 1 back, prostate, foot. 4 were invasive, and one was to remove a malignant tumor. I'm currently receiving radiation treatments daily for 40 days. I'd been working with Narisa since July, and had lost about 12-14 lbs of body fat up until December 2018, while maintaining muscle mass over that period. Starting in early February 2019, I started the hormone (ADT) and radiation. The combination may fight cancer but causes significant loss of bone density and muscle mass. Where do I start? In 2012 I hurt my lower back while in the Navy. The Navy gave me Naproxen and said I'll be fine. Well its 2019 and I'm still not "fine." I was told by an orthopedic surgeon that I will have pain for the rest of my life unless I workout and stay flexible. Trying to find a personal trainer that I can trust and that wont hurt my injury was like finding a needle in a hay stack. I looked for ways to help myself for years and then through yelp I stumbled across, The Facility! I have been going to The Facility for about 2 months now. I am able to do things I haven't been able to do ever, like squat down (properly and using my legs to stand backup) to give my 4 year a piggyback ride. Daniela is my trainer. The workouts are always challenging and never repetitive. Her encouragement gets me through those final reps, but she is also aware of what injuries I've had and modifies when needed. She is constantly smiling. I have been training at The Facility for a little over a month now. The Facility is an incredible gym and I'll tell you why. It is always clean, the weights are always racked and the equipment is top of the line and wiped down after every use. I train with Tom Bennett. Not only is Tom a good guy, he is also a great trainer. In the short time I've been here, I feel physically and mentally stronger. Another great thing about Tom, he is very knowledgeable and accommodating. I have injuries and he makes sure I am doing the correct exercises and doing them properly so I avoid further injury. I originally found The Facility on Yelp, I saw they were running a special to get 2 free training sessions and I figured I would swing by and try them. My first day I met with Fred and we went over my goals, he also did an inBody test which is pretty awesome since it gives you a whole picture about your weight, muscle mass etc. I went through my 2 free sessions with Austin, and signed up immediately after that. I've been training with Austin for about 5-6 months, he always keeps the work outs different and interesting. My Results so far: My first inBody test I was about 22% body fat and had around 99 lbs of muscle. My last inBody test I have gone down to 16.7 body fat and 111 lbs of muscle, and that includes me occasionally not eating right and a 3 week vacation with absolutely no dieting. I am 54 years young and preparing for rotator cuff surgery. I wanted to minimize my recovery time so I could be back in "the gym" and on the golf course asap. A colleague of mine gave me the name "The Facility" in Boca Raton and more specifically a highly educated exercisr physiologist with extreme credentials who he said specializes in strengthening surrounding muscle groups to speed up recovery time. When I visited I immediately took note that this is no typical "gym" and this young man (anybody is young compared to me!) was not your weekend certified trainer. In fact, he and all of the trainers are required to have advanced degrees and certifications. Additionally, The Facility specializes in a method of training that is very unique and highly effective. He took me through my complimentary session, and away we went! I've been training at The Facility for a year and a half now, and I'm still going strong. While new gyms seem to pop up every week in south Florida, I've yet to see anything better. Due to my business, I've had to change my training schedule several times, usually forcing me to change trainers. Fortunately, The Facility only hires PROFESSIONAL trainers with bachelor's degrees (half of them have master's degrees), so they all seem to have a legitimate passion for health and fitness. After working with 6 trainers, I can say that the whole team is top notch. Trust me, there's a HUGE difference between a $200 personal trainer certification and someone with a degree in Exercise Science or Sports Medicine. (It's frustrating there isn't a proper term to differentiate between the 2, because the difference is like dishwasher and chef). I used to believe the heavier the weight you can lift, the better. This seemed to be an effective way to get bigger and stronger, but I usually only made it 3-4 months before I'd get an injury that kept me out of the gym. The Facility trainers follow a training method (DVNS) based on neuromuscular stimulation (and some bigger sciency words) that enables them to deliver a more effective workout with less weight. This means I get better results, faster and safer. In the 20 months I've been at The Facility, I've canceled only 5 workouts and all were from being sick, not injured. When I first started working out at The Facility, I figured "a gym is a gym, a trainer is a trainer." I never considered the value of a uniform training system, so I figured there was nothing wrong with the way most gyms put new trainers right to work when hired. At The Facility, even if you've got a master's and years of training professional athletes under your belt, you've still got to complete a regiment of on the job training, testing, and evaluation (we're talking months for some trainers) before they let you near a client. That shows The Facility's commitment to highest standards and the trainer's dedication to bringing their craft to the next level. The fact that they specialize in training people over 40 and people with injuries/surgeries in their past is invaluable. Not only do I know they're getting constant exposure and experience with working around limitations safely, but their constant focus on injuries makes them seem a lot more aware of my form. I'm not just working out to stay in shape now, I'm working out in ways that'll allow me to stay in shape in the future, which wasn't on my mind a decade ago. A lot of people think the worst that can come from an undereducated trainer is an ineffective workout, but one wrong rep can be the difference between a world of pain and long-term limitation. The Facility is a great environment to work out in. All of their machinery is state-of-the-art and probably the most advanced I've ever seen in any gym. The facility has a large space for a gym and they have state of the art machines. I turned 40 this year and felt it was time to kick my workout routine up a notch. I am so happy that I came across an advertisement for The Facility and decided to give it a try. I participated in the intro offer including an InBody assessment and 2 free training sessions with my trainer Justin Feldman. I signed up immediately after and have been training at The Facility for two months now. I meet with Justin twice a week for 30 minute sessions and look forward to each and every session. Yesterday was my one year anniversary of going to The Facility. That I can even say that I've stuck with an exercise program for a year is a great testament to the terrific job they do here, but I am also down nearly 70 pounds and I have muscles that I have, literally, never had in my life (BTW I'm 58 years old). The owners and staff are amazing and the facility and equipment are always spotlessly clean and in great working order. Although all the trainers here are great and very well educated and knowledgeable, my trainer David Hrdlicka has done such an amazing job of keeping me motivated, interested and pushing me to go further than I usually think I can go but with trust and skill, not with bullying and yelling that you see in some other places. My journey is still in process and I'm looking forward to seeing where it will take me with David's help and support. read more
