    Espresso Martini

I am a sucker for a good Espresso Martini. I have tried them at every bar I have been to that offers them the last year but none come close to The Famous Bar's. They are smooth and taste the same no matter which bartender is making them. The bartenders are always working hard and attentive to who is waiting. Love this bar for a nice night out. My only wish is that there was more seating. However, that doesn't prevent me from standing with my martini!

This South City award-winning jewel is an elevated Cheers where everyone knows your name. Every bartender is a male and they are rocking dapper attire with ties. It's one of the few bars I highly recommend to anyone locally or from out of town. There is street parking up front as well as an alley parking lot with a rear entrance into the building. The inside is low lighting with an array of seating. With bar seating, there is a place reserved for ordering drinks so that patrons can order drinks. Martinis are listed on the wall and run $14.50 currently. I think I've tried most of the martinis here and every single one has been good. My top faves are the Salted Caramel Martini and Blueberry Martini. When I am not wishing to drink alcohol, James makes me a Cold Coffee Mocktini or a Lemonade Mocktini. He even gives it a sugar rim. It makes me still feel social with my friends while having the outward appearance of a martini. Since I've been to this lovely bar many times over the past 5 months, I've included photos from each visit. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!

Dive bar with lots of martinis and pool tables... sign me up! We came in on a Sunday early evening, and there were about 15 other people in the place. We grabbed martinis, played pool (you need cash for quarters), and hung out for a bit in the A/C (needed to escape the heat and "hydrate"). Bartenders were friendly enough and let us read the small menu they keep behind the bar to help us choose our martinis. We look forward to coming back soon!

Such a fun spot! Chill enough to be able to sit and chat while as busy enough that no one is able to listen in. Great spot for an espresso martini (my friend said it's the best one she has ever had and I think I just have to agree!) and I absolutely loved my gimlet. The bartender was very kind and attentive - I believe his name was Dave! This is quick on its way to being one of my regular spots!

My friend I hopped over to Famous Bar (not to be confused with your Mom's favorite South County shopping spot) one Sunday afternoon. The ambiance is absolutely everything you'd want in a classic Midwestern bar. No food needed...just a gorgeous unassuming bar with a "Welcome Home" vibe. Cocktails are made the right way, staff is so friendly and attentive! As always, another low key StL Gem that I never knew existed. Will be back for another flawless Old Fashioned and Sunday rant session.

Oh, Famous..'How do I love thee. Let me count the ways.' Delicious cocktails Beautiful bar Lovely, dark interior No TouchTunes & fabulous playlists TV's to catch the game sans sound Friendly and fun bartenders Pool tables Famous checks all the right boxes in my book. The cocktails are meticulously crafted - every one has a specific recipe, glass and garnish but if you're just looking for a bottle of beer and a shot, they've got you covered too. From the outside, you'd never guess what a classy yet low key bar awaits. You're not going to find a happy hour or food (except for a few bags of chips or jerky) but you will find a warm atmosphere, delicious drinks and a fun vibe. Mark (owner) doesn't cycle through bartenders and invests significant effort into finding the right people. His whiskey/bourbon selection is top notch and he hosts a premium tasting event a few times a year. Friday and Saturday nights are usually busy, so be prepared if that's your plan but other days are often comfortably filed with regulars chatting away and enjoying the evening. There's a parking lot in the back and you can have food delivered, if you need a little something to soak up the booze. ;) Stop in and make some friends!

A great time was had by all! I love the Famous Bar, a martini bar that has two pool tables! Yes, please! The bartenders are great! Always friends and attentive. The martinis were superb! I always love bringing new friends here to experience this hidden gem!

All I can tell you is The Famous Bar was fantastic. My wife, and I both wanted a chocolate martini, but she wanted hers a little more chocolatey. When I brought back the martinis, my wife tasted hers, and immediately cringed because it had a strong vodka taste to it. The bartender because he knew my wife specifically wanted something chocolatey actually looked in my direction and asked how was and I let him know that she probably wanted a creamy chocolate martini. He apologized, walked back behind the bar and made a chocolate martini that had Bailey's in it and it was perfect. He took the offending martini away and did not charge us for the correct martini. After I finished my martini, I wanted to have one more drink and I asked the other bartender what his smoothest bourbon was. He chuckled and asked me how much did I want to spend? I laughed, but he said that price did play a role. I told him I did not want to break the bank, so we settled on four roses bourbon over rice. It was such a rich, smelling drink with a smooth, smooth finish. All of the bartenders were friendly, funny and knowledgeable. I would recommend this is a must stop for anyone who enjoys a good cocktail.

Nice bar to unwind after a long day. Two pool tables and Golden Tee. Weekends are a bit roudy but always safe and a great time

The bartenders were helpful and I appreciated how they had a specific spot to stand if you wanted to place an order. Genius! They had live music when we got there and it was quite loud so it was hard to talk to people at our table, but we managed. They had some bar games that some people were playing and the atmosphere was just right for a chill Friday night. Some of my friends were hungry so they ordered a pizza which looked good. It was typical bar food so they said it was just okay, but since they were hungry, it was enjoyed! They have some seating outside, but it was too cold to be out there. But I can see this being a fun spot in warmer weather! Bathrooms were clean which was impressive for a Friday night.

I met here with members of a local running group for one of their periodic pub runs. It was extremely cold when I got there, despite having been nearly 90 degrees out the day before. Several members of our group stood in the doorway, preventing other patrons from entering and exiting. Modern's staff deserves credit for not complaining or forcing them to leave. They may have sensed that this wasn't the local unhoused population. Only employed people run recreationally, despite having relatively little free time. I see this place all the time, from my car on the adjacent highway, on my way back to civilization, but I'd never had the occasion to stop by. Perhaps I'd be a regular if I attended the nearby community college. But if I could afford to eat here, why would I be attending community college? The beer will set you back. I would have been fine with a 32 oz can of Miller High Life, but when in Rome. There's an extensive selection of beers on tap, and probably even more in cans and bottles. I'm no connoisseur, and I don't have that kind of time, so I went with something called Silent Gs, or something to that effect. I justified it, in part, by telling myself that its name is a reference to the Lil Wayne bar adored by people who started listening to rap music in 2003. I paid $7.50-ish for a not particularly large serving, but damn it if it wasn't pretty good. I appreciate it anytime one of these higher gravity pale ales doesn't taste like it was sourced from a trough-style urinal at a circa '83 ballpark. A couple of girls from the aforementioned run group mentioned that this place carries a brussels spouts salad. I don't eat salad, because I'm a guy, but these girls are certified baddies, and I succumbed to the peer pressure. I attempted to mitigate the impact on my reputation by also ordering a slice of pepperoni pizza. I'm gonna have to have a difficult meeting with my accountant, as a result, but it was worth it. The entree serving of the salad would have been enough food, even without the pizza. It's enough vegetables that it's actually kinda obnoxious, like they're trolling you. Who do they think I am, a damn cow? Part of that may have been the brussels sprouts. They help give the salad a surprising heft, for something that doesn't have any meat in it, and help make up for the lack of bacon, which I generally require with brussels sprouts. The candied walnuts, which I thought might be croutons, were another delightful surprise and complemented the tang of the pickled red onions. The pizza came topped with an oddly precise-looking quantity and arrangement of pepperonis, like they might have Russell Crowe from the movie A Beautiful Mind working in the kitchen. It's not like at Domino's, where they just toss them on there and they might not even be on half the pizza. I guess they have to do that when they sell it by the slice. You'd be upset if you didn't get enough of them, because they're delicious. They're the kind that curl up into little cups filled with disgustingly unhealthy and yet delicious oil. I wonder if that's also because they serve it by the slice and hence have to reheat it. That may have resulted in the end of the crust suffering from a bit of Popeyes biscuit-like dryness, but what are you going to do. Then again, that may have been a purposeful attempt to get you to purchase more expensive beer. Everything else here was so well executed, it's hard to imagine this wasn't intentional on their part.

Yawn! The best thing…read moreabout, The Modern Brewery is their spectacular patio that is dog friendly. Otherwise, everything else is just "plain Jane". Nothing impressed me and my friend. TMB is a card only business, they do not accept cash. Don't worry, they did not charge the card fee. So it's kinda like paying cash. When arriving at Modern Brewery, pick out your table before going up to the counter to order. MB is an order at counter establishment, so expect minimal service and you'll be fine. When your food is ready they'll bring it to your table, that is why you need to know your tables number before ordering. Once you've finished eating, the staff will bus your table. Delivery and bussing is the only service you'll receive. Lucky for me, I ordered a beer and was given it when I ordered it with my food. My friend unfortunately ordered a gin martini. I ordered a beer because when she ordered her martini, the staff behind the bar discussed loudly who was going to make it. Once it was made, she had to watch the bar to see it set aside and go pick it up herself. I know we were at a brewery, but I still was surprised that they served the martini in a small coupe glass and charged a premium price. Being a martini enthusiast, I am glad I did not order one, because I would have been majorly disappointed. My friend commented that it was not worth the, $14. The best thing about our food was the, Brussels Sprouts Salad. We each chose it as our side dish and it was the star of our meals. I easily could have made the side salad a meal. It was thinly sliced Brussels Sprouts, pickled red onion, goat cheese and candied walnuts with a lemon vinaigrette. This salad got two thumbs up from us. My friend ordered the, Double Cheeseburger and the meat was over cooked. It was over-cooked, cut like leather and was tough to chew. My Porchetta Pastrami was more bread then sandwich. I will say, the house pickles on it were, top notch and full of flavor. The focaccia bread was good, too. I took half of it home and unfortunately it did not do well as leftovers. The gentleman who took my friend's order was friendly and personable. However, the young lady who took mine and the other girl who ran orders and cleared tables, had the personality of a wet dishrag. We could barely get a grunt from them when we spoke. They didn't even respond to our, thank-you. Chances are you'll like, The Modern Brewery. It just wasn't for me and my friend.

I'm disappointed that it took me so long to make my way here. They won me over with the tiny dedicated parking lot. At my big age, difficult parking situations are a turn off and I will go home if I can't get reasonable parking. I was able to snag a space in the lot and headed in. The space is a bit dark with rich sage, brass, and terracotta. There are several hanging plants making it an inviting place. The bar has plenty of comfortable seating and cozy tables if you decide to bring some friends. Caleb was our server during our visit. He was an absolute delight. He made excellent cocktail suggestions. He looked after our group without being overly doting. Just a gem of a human. We tried approximately 9 cocktails during our visit. Did I mention we were at brunch! I highly recommend the peach bite and the Side Car. Every cocktail is thoughtfully made and well executed. They offer a small brunch menu along with the regular menu. I usually always get chilaquiles when they are available. But today the ruby trout and grits sounded perfect. This dish was amazing!! The trout was thin with crispy skin. The grits were creamy and delicious. The dish is topped with a house made radish pico and salsa macha. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich that was paired with the crispiest breakfast potatoes I've ever had. The burger and fries are also a good option. The seasoning on the fries is next level. The brunch menu has a sticky toffee roll that is a perfect size for sharing or not. Salty sweet fork tender cinnamon roll. Lastly, the deviled eggs were a group favorite. I am a big fan of Passenger Chili Crisp. If you are unfamiliar please look them up! It's hands down the best chili crisp I've ever had. It's locally made here in STL and can also be found in several dishes at restaurants around town. The eggs were creamy with the right amount of tang from the mustard. The chili crisp made these deviled eggs easily top five best I've ever had! Planning to stop in again soon for happy hour with more friends
