We came by to grab coffee and dessert one night. They have a small bar area in the front of the store to let folks sit and enjoy the view. We ordered 2 desserts and a coffee. The desserts were both tasty and well balanced, the coffee was fresh and screaming hot! The ordering process is a little clunky l, as we had to wait for the ladies behind the dessert counter to be available (they also seat guests in the restaurant it seems) and they didn't see us for a minute. Then you go to a different spot to order coffee and pay. The cashier wasn't sure what the desserts we ordered were called, so she had trouble finding what to ring in. Let me start with the good. Service was amazing! Our waitress was outstanding as were other staff encountered during our visit. The appetizers, artichokes, zucchini fries and Burratta were amazing and the whole party enjoyed them. This was a birthday dinner for me so I was excited when I got there (my former review was about our amazing lunch there so I expected so much more). My mother ordered the pork chop which she enjoyed, she said it wasn't special but it was a good pork chop. My brother ordered the crab enchiladas which he hated. He did admit that it could be a taste thing as he expected sauce and there was bone, just cheese and noodles and crab and not enough cheese. My daughter and I both ordered filet and lobster with scalloped potatoes. I overlooked that it was served with sauce, which had it been flavorful sauce would have been okay but it was as if they took milk... just milk and poured it over each plate. The steaks were not medium as expected... more like a medium well and the lobster... well it is weirdly shredded partially with a bit left in the tail... my daughter complained hers was chewy and mine was ungodly nasty fishy. I even gave my daughter a piece of mine which she said tasted nothing like hers and she couldn't even swallow it. I am not a person to eat a significant portion of a meal and complain so we just ate what we wanted but it didn't take a lot to eat a significant portion because there wasn't much there. For 75 a plate I expected at least quality food and what I received was not quality food. The potato was not bad to me but everything on the table was served tepid and not at all hot. However there were some things warmer than others... my steak was warm, my daughters was cold, her lobster was warm and mine was not. The pork chop was just tepid and the potatoes were just cold. The same went with appetizers, fried artichokes were cold but zucchini was so hot I burned my mouth.... It was much busier when we went last night than when we went for dinner and i left feeling as if they either need more cooks or one that can handle a busy restaurant because the food was just not good. A big disappointment as it was my birthday dinner and one I had really looked forward to. If I were to go back it would be for the lobster roll which was the amazing lunch I had some time back or for an appetizer and a drink and that simply because the staff really are great and the little store out front so cute and J love Italian Grocers... Let me start by saying my waitress was lovely, great service and great attitude. So in that respect, the meal was pleasant. Unfortunately though, this restaurant seems to have a case of quantity over quality in terms of food items. There are far too many things on the menu for them to perform well at all 40+ menu offerings, or at least that's my opinion of what might be going on here. I ordered a glass of prosecco and the prosciutto con melon appetizer to start. This was actually quite nice flavor wise but if you're going to charge $22 bucks for an appetizer you better load my plate up with prosciutto!!! For me personally, 3 pieces of prosciutto, a pile of arugula and some cantaloupe is not worth 22 dollars. I then ordered a side beet salad and mushroom ravioli. This is where things took a turn for the worse. Beet salad was decent, I just wish they put more of the toppings. Was basically just a bowl of arugula. The mushroom ravioli was sadly a let down for me. The pasta was rolled far too thin on top of the filling and far too thick on the sides so unfortunately the tops of the ravioli were paper thin and overcooked while the sides were still raw. Really unappetizing to cut a ravioli open and see raw pasta. Honestly the flavor was pretty rich but not terrible it's just the ravioli itself wasn't well executed. The lovely waitress noticed that I wasnt completely satisfied and took the ravioli off the check. I ordered some "wagyu" sliders that were juicy but in desperate need of some salt. She also offered me a free dessert which was a warm olive oil cake which had a nice orange flavor to it. Honestly quite a nice ending to an underwhelming meal. A little underwhelmed by our experience. I was expecting a cozy, quiet vibe but the space is quite loud and a little more modern/stark than I was expecting. We started with the whipped ricotta, which was delicious though did not come with enough bread. We split pasta and the porchetta as mains - the noodles were delicious and clearly made in house, but sauce lacked seasoning. Porchetta was not good - a little cold, and mainly fat. Also just not a good combination of flavors (though it sounded good on the menu). I want to leave a note about our service which was 12/10 and was the highlight of our experience. Our waitress and all we interacted with could not have been nicer. They were perfectly attentive and accommodating. A heck of a happy hour! My intern and I met here for a working happy hour and it was perfect! Ample space at the table, casual but still felt elevated, and a great/ affordable menu when huge portions. We had the chicken lollipops, zucchini fries, meatballs, and espresso martinis. One of the most welcoming experiences, we stopped by The Hill on a Monday after the Zoo with our 1yr old to have a snack and drinks at the high top tables. The high chair for our baby accomodationed these tables and the staff welcomed us in nicely. We really appreciated a nice restaurant welcoming in A: kids B: us after a Zoo day. We loved how they had the garage door open for the air to come in on the nice day. The bar / high top are had plenty of space and was very comfortable. They had a great happy hour around 3pm, both our appetizers were on the happy hour menu, as well as our Pinot Grigio drinks. The food was excellent, we had focaccia bread, and fried calamaris. We didn't have them but the wagu sliders and chicken lollipops both were popular at the other table. We also got a white chocolate tiramisu to go that was fantastic. Great bread = Great dessert Really appreciated our waitress / bartender that day, she said she had four grown kids of her own, as well as appreciated the rest of the staff. I am so glad to have had this spot recommended to me. I have walked by this spot a few times and just assumed it was a grocery store, I had no idea there was a restaurant as well and now that I know it's there, I cannot wait to visit again! I made a reservation ahead of time and when we arrived, our table was ready and our server was quick to bring over water and make some recommendations on apps. None of us were drinking cocktails that night, but we did order some tea and sodas along with an order of arancini and an order of the chicken lollipops! Once our apps were brought over, we talked with our server a bit about entree recommendations and with his help, we all were quite happy with the decisions we made and we knew that we could share with one another so that we could all try multiple dishes! The apps were so good, I loved the arancini so much and enjoyed the sauces for dipping. And the chicken lollipops were so unique. Crunchy on the outside and juicy inside. Basically, chicken wings, but the presentation was so unique. When our meals arrived, everything looked so good and fresh. The pasta was perfect and the greens were fresh. The salmon was cooked just right. Everything was just lovely and the flavors were top notch! While we did not finish everything, it was nice to be able to pack some leftovers and reheating them did not mess up any of the flavors. Live and Learn. When I've been on, The Hill in the past, I always thought Marconi Mercado was a boutique grocery store. The other day I was visiting The Hill with a friend and she suggested that we go inside for a cocktail. I was bewildered, but went with the flow. Once inside, I did see a variety of grocery items, but there was much more. They had a bakery counter that had some very tempting pastries. There was also a bar and a dining room. This all blew my mind. We had already eaten, so we just had Espresso Martinis at the bar. The martinis were made with real espresso, which is always a big plus for me. However, the glass was on the small size for the $14 price. It should have been $12. Also, they need to upgrade the glassware to a true martini glass. The service was friendly and efficient. I ordered the Lombatello entree, which includes marinated hanger steak, boursin garlic herb mashed potatoes and crispy Brussel sprouts with romesco sauce. I have no idea what's in this orange sauce but I liked it. It seems like it's something in the chimichurri family but red sauces based. I can probably count on one hand how many times I have ordered boneless steak. I will say this dish "wow'd" me. It wasn't heavy and it did not skimp on flavor. Everyone else at my table ordered the jumbo lump crab manicotti. They all loved it so I made sure to taste it. I can say it was good and the packed the cheese and sauce in. One person even ordered the salmon for extra entree for lunch. Another person said it was the BEST salmon they ever had. Now I do not eat Salmon so I cannot confirm or deny that comment. Decided to stray from our normal Hill favorites and give Marconi Mercato a try! The inside is very cute and was decorated for Christmas. We skipped apps and ordered the Bucatini Cacio E Pepe and the Nduja é Salsiccia Piccante. The Cacio E Pepe was pretty good, but it could have used more cheese. My partner didn't like the Nduja é Salsiccia Piccante very much, said it was bland. I enjoyed the mashed potatoes, they were mostly whipped but had a few chunks still which I like. The sherry green beans weren't my favorite but we were trying something new. There is a cute market right when you walk in which we would have liked to check out, but by the time we finished eating the market had closed. Omg YUM! This might be my favorite place on The Hill!!! The burrata was incredible. The balsamic was my favorite part. I also loved the soft bread and arugula. Overall an awesome appetizer. I wasn't blown away by the baked ricotta though. The lobster gnocchi was delicious. Lobster was perfect, loved the creamy spicy rich sauce, and gnocchi were perfect pillows of goodness. We were seated quickly and ordered appetizers. We got the burrata and cauliflower. Both appetizers were yummy and flavorful. For dinner I ordered the lobster roll. If you're looking for a dining space that is not fussy but delivers high quality food with a wide variety of menu items which could include some atypical offerings, look no further than Marconi Mercato! You enter through the market and the restaurant is located towards the back. I made a 6pm reservations and we were seated immediately. There's a bar area with dining tables closer to the restaurant entrance but we were seated at the dining area close to the kitchen. They had a sangria special which was fitting for the season (autumnal flavors). I ordered that to start and it was delicious. Then we shared some grilled octopus with sweet potato mash and pork belly. The sauce had fantastic flavors, the grilled octopus, perfectly charred in places and the pork belly was great as well. Immediate Chef's kiss with the appetizer we've chosen. I was deliberating over the lobster gnocchi and the crab manicotti but in the end I decided on the gnocchi. Fortunately enough for me, I had voiced my opinion and my husband ordered the manicotti for himself so I had the chance to try them as well. Both dishes were lovely but our waitress was right, the manicotti was richer than the gnocchi. The sauce over the gnocchi was very good and while I ate my entire lobster tail at dinner, I ended up taking home the rest of the gnocchi. I was too full for dessert, unfortunately but we did browse through the market. They have a frozen section where several flavors of their tiramisu are sold. Service was fabulous. Our waitress came to check on us at regular intervals and it seemed that they actually all help each other out as our beverage and food orders were delivered to the table by available staff in a timely manner. Our table was also cleared off of dirty dishes fairly quickly which is always a great thing to see. I would definitely come back. I really wanted to like this place. I was super excited to go to dinner there. It made Ian Frobe's top 100. The chef was Chef of the year for the Missouri Restaurant Association and I thought wow this is gonna be great! So let's start with the great, our waiter was really great super nice really helpful. The old-fashioned's were really good. The salads; there were three people in our party and I had an Italian salad and my sister had the other salad and they were both really good. There's a bread service on the appetizer menu and while I didn't have any, my friends, both said that they really enjoyed that. As far as entree's go, my sister had the fungi ravioli and she really enjoyed that. That is about the extent of the great. Now for the not so great, we had made a reservation at least a week in advance, and when we got there, for some reason, we're seated at a six high top in the bar, even though there were tables in what they consider the dining room room available for the three of us. OK, no problem until the bar became extremely loud. There were people partying on the other side of the room and while that's great it wasn't so great for us. We ordered an octopus appetizer. It was just so so really pretty lackluster. I had the veal chop. It was just OK really nothing to write home about and my husband had the Lucatelli and he had a little bit of it. The sauce he said was the best he felt like the noodles were really undercooked. Maybe that's the way they're supposed to be and we're just not used to. We stated with the friend zucchini, ample size for sharing, great crunch and dips. For the entree I went with the Crab Manicotti, huge portion. There were only a few other two tops, but several people at the bar. However, she brought us water and took our drink order to help him out and then he came over and was attentive until the end. Carrots tasted like vinegar was an after thought. No hint of mustard. Just not well executed. No gluten free pasta or dessert options. Boyfriend is gluten free so this will be a place. I will have to come back to with other others. He only had a few options to choose from as far as the entrées. A few of the bar two tops are right next to the server station. I've been here twice now and had a great experience both times. Our waitress was amazing--she offered suggestions and was very personable and attentive throughout the meal. We started with the ricotta al forno, which is an absolute must-try. We also split the fall panzanella salad, which was incredibly refreshing. I highly recommend ordering one of their pastas--everything is made fresh, and you can truly taste the difference. We had the Maine lobster gnocchi and the 'Nduja e salsiccia piccante. Both dishes were creamy, rich, and packed with flavor. Don't skip dessert either--the tiramisu and olive oil cake were both excellent. What's not to love about this place. Front of place is a nice, upscale Italian market. Remainder is a great restaurant with excellent drinks and great food. We have been here three times. Service is prompt and excellent. Cocktails are very good, we liked the San Michele, Rivotella and Tochio per Mele a lot. They have a good wine selection as well. Of the apps, we've had the Fritto Misto, Arancini and Baby Gem Salad. All great starters. Entrees we've had: Veal Marsala, Short Ribs, Wild Boar Papparadelle, Bucatini Cacio e Pepe, and Mushroom Ravioli. All were very good, although I'd highlight the Veal Marsala, the Bucatini, and the Mushroom Ravioli. We've also had the Cauliflower Gratin as a side dish. Best side on the menu in my opinion. It is slightly loud in the Bar seating area, but mainly because everyone is simply enjoying the heck out of the food, drink and company. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. I went to Marconi Mercado in the St. Louis Italian neighborhood The Hill on a Saturday night and was pleased to get a table quickly since it looks very nice and upscale inside. I went with a friend and we had a delicious dinner. First we ordered shared appetizers of Arancini that are the deep fried and breaded rice and cheese balls and a Barbabietole salad plate with arugula that were both delightful. Then for main courses, I ordered the wild boar pappardelle pasta with nice thick noodles in a minced wild boar ragu sauce and my friend ordered a grilled pork chop plate and I sampled the pork dish and it was delicious as well as my plate of pasta. This place doesn't have an extensive menu but does all their core dishes very well I'm quite sure judging by the food I saw them deliver to other tables too. I look forward to going back and trying more menu items and this restaurant deserves to be in the current upper echelon of The Hill Italian restaurants. read more

Friday we made a reservation at another restaurant which happens to be next door so we stopped in Marconi Mercato for a pre dinner cocktail. The bar area is very nice and the drinks were great. We got to see the menu and on the way out chatted with the Manager. Our experience was so pleasant we stopped for dessert after our meal. I started with the zucchini fries, which were crispy, delicious, and the perfect way to kick things off. Then came the lobster bisque and so good. Plus, it's #stlouispescatarianapproved since they don't use chicken stock, which is always a win for me. For the main event, I went with the branzino paired with an eggplant compote, and it was absolutely spot on. My buddy ordered the salmon, and of course, I stole a few bites (it's only fair, right?). A must try while visiting the hill in St Louis. Visited on a Tuesday evening and there were plenty of open tables indoor and outdoors. Our waitress was attentive and took good care of us. We were served with complimentary bread and butter first. The chicken lollipop was seasoned and cooked well, a little heavy for an appetizer tho! Unique and lovely Italian restaurant with attached market. Great food! Get there early for seating. In the heart of The Hill.

I figured today would be the day where I could finally give this restaurant a try. I went with a friend of mine, since he was just as excited to get some Italian food. When we arrived, we walked through the mini market to get to the restaurant. It's quite spacious. We sat at a two-top in the bar area as that's what majority of the tables are with the exception of a few larger tables. Our server came and greeted us promptly giving us both water. We soon struck out as my friend asked for a mule but they didn't have ginger beer, while I asked if they had flavored vodka and that was a no-go as well. He settled for a Negroni and I got the Carciofio tropicale. It wasn't quite what I expected and I ended up getting a glass of Prosecco Rose. Since we were both hungry, I went with the small Caesar and my friend requested bread. Fun fact: it's NOT complimentary; however, I think you have to order something to get it. Not quite sure how that works since I didn't see a charge for it on the bill. Moving on, I got the Rigatoni alla crema and we said we'd split the Brussel sprouts. Mind you, we specifically asked that the salad and bread come first as an appetizer; instead, everything came at once. It was overwhelming and disappointing. To make matters worse, those two-tops are in no condition to hold that much food as it literally covered every square inch of the table! The food itself was pretty good but I wasn't wowed. The dressing on the salad had a nice tang to it, while the pasta was just meh. As far as the bread, we were both expecting it to be hot and fresh but it was cold and white. The service was pretty good, although our server seemed a bit rattled. I think I'll eventually make my way back. read more

The Market at Marconi on the Hill is such a gem. The space is beautiful, thoughtfully curated, and full of high-quality local goods. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and it's clear a lot of care goes into everything they offer. It's the perfect place to stop for specialty items, gifts, or just a little inspiration.
