Two stars because the burger was good. We were shocked to see an employee carrying in his bare hands a large turtle into the restaurant (through the front door where customers were). Other employees were "petting" the turtle. If I hadn't been so hungry I'd have left. I witnessed one employee pet the turtle then shortly after she had her hand in a bag of coffee filters. I did call the manager over to express my concern about cross contamination and she assured me that she told everyone to wash their hands. I hope so. But I won't be going back there again. Another thing that struck me odd was the number of people who work there! The place wasn't busy (4-5 pm) but there were a whole lot of people who worked there walking around. It was weird. We went to the Feed Sack last night for my mom's surprise 70th birthday party. Just wow. I cannot express how accommodating everyone was from the hostess to the piano player to our wonderful server, Joshua. I have worked in restaurants from Charleston to Aiken and I can tell you that his service is just exceptional. Funny, extremely knowledgeable and gracious service. We were shocked to find out late into the evening that he was not only taking care of our large party, but serving the bar as well AND other tables, and balancing it all impeccably! The restaurant's ambiance was warm, rustic, and horse-centric . My group was really excited about coming as it has a favorable reputation around town. Upon our group sitting down, my drink order was assumed by the waitress based on my friend's drink order. One of the members in my party ordered the appetizer for the group. It was lukewarm fries with large slivers of cheese rind on the fries and around the plate. I had a gluten sensitivity , so I asked the waitress if I could have a sandwich with a lettuce bun / lettuce wrap as they don't have any sandwiches available for GF patrons. When I received my sandwich (chicken salad), the presentation looked as though it was ordered at a hospital. Literally, it was an ice cream scoop of chicken salad (pale, bland and pasty) laying on top of a slice tomato with slivers of romaine lettuce around the plate. The tomato soup was almost gel-like and didn't have the garnish as described in the menu. When the manager came over to ask how the meal went, I shared my disappointment with him. Afterwards, I received a bill for 1/3 of the appetizer when I wasn't the one who ordered it. Pfft. read more

I keep ordering the wrong thing. Others are enjoying their meals and it never fails I pick a loser. My last endeavor was BLT. Bacon was leather and burned and tasted like it had been laying around for a day or two. My companion had the fish and chips and said it was good. Crispy Brussels Sprouts were ok. It's too bad cause it's a nice atmosphere and the service is usually ok. On the plus side, they comped the meal since it was inedible. I hate doing that but I appreciated this time. read more

The service is great however the food has been so salty lately. We couldn't even eat the fried cauliflower bites due to the salt overload. The time before that I ordered the salmon and again it was just so salty. Drinks are pretty weak and even the wine pour is small. Beer is the safest choice. The ambience is great though. read more

To make a great experience even better, our waitress, Sadie, went above and beyond. She knew the menu well, gave us great recommendations, was always smiling and was just an absolute gem! Visited The Feed Sack for a family member's birthday, and we all absolutely loved our meal! Delicious appetizers (pretzels and deviled eggs), entrees were amazing (short ribs, peppercorn steak), and the chocolate cake was outstanding. We had fabulous service from our server and everyone who brought food to our table. Even my kids, who are on the pickier side, loved eating here - even asked when we were coming back! My wife and I had dinner here on April 17, 2024. We each had the Roasted Vegetable Pesto Pasta with added blackened shrimp. The shrimp was so heavily salted that I chose to eat only 2 of the four. My wife ate all of them and suffered the results - swollen hands at night, etc. The restaurant is pretty nice, but the lamps at the booths are at eye level -- you have to duck below them to talk with your dinner partner. The night we were there the music was annoying - piano music including Frank Sanatra songs or other songs that would have been okay if they hadn't been played so bafflingly staccato. First time here with my family! Staff was extremely polite and helpful. My wife uses a wheelchair and the bathroom was well situated for ADA accessibility. Love the ambience of the restaurant. The very back of the restaurant has large plush leather couches and a grand piano. The menu had a great variety of food choices to choose from. Our party of five ordered 3 Fish and Chips (1/2 portion), one Hot Honey Chicken Sandwich and a Reuben. The fries were crispy, the slaw was a vinegar based slaw. The 1/2 portion of the fish and chips was plenty large enough for each of the 3 orders. The chicken sandwich was good and a bit on the spicy side. The Reuben was delicious with tender meat and grilled and crispy bread. Although we loved the ambience and plenty of time to chat with family, the time for our meals to come out from when they were ordered was a bit on the slow side. We came here one Saturday afternoon and had sandwiches and a side of asparagus. The asparagus was so salty, it shot my blood pressure so high my doctor had to start me on blood pressure medicine. They need to ease way up on their use of salt here. Loved the atmosphere and the cool future to look at but when we were getting ready to eat, a middle aged gentleman came by our table as well as others, never greeted us or introduced himself but said hello to our kid. UPDATE: Three months later and the stars remain the same. The menu was a little different today than our first visit and the Old Fashioned, though still PERFECT, didn't have the Lasardo cherry (lol still perfectly wonderful, though). The breading on the shrimp has changed to a soft, fluffy breading - which was still incredible...just different than before. The batter was flavored with something we couldn't quite recognize - maybe Asian flavors? Anyway, the breading was great as weee the tender, perfectly cooked shrimp inside. The flatbread menu was different and I imagine it's seasonal - but my apple, prosciutto and goat cheese flatbread was DELICIOUS as was my wine. I can't remember it..Hahn maybe? I was disappointed that the furniture section seemed to be gone, but I hope it's for renovation purposes only! We went to the Feed Sack for the first time while we were in Aiken mid-February and really enjoyed it! We could have just made a meal of sharing the appetizers! My husband and I split a prime rib and thank goodness we did because it is huge. Service was good and our waiter was so friendly and nice, although I think they may have been shorthanded as our waiter had several large tables and things seemed a bit slow, but we were enjoying ourselves and found it relaxing listening to the live piano player. This restaurant ranks one of the best I've ever had! First off, the house salad was so fresh and in-house made salad dressings?! Amazing! There's just a difference when it's homemade and not name brand. Ordered the pork belly bites... ugh pillows of delicious bacon! I ordered the crab cakes, which came on a bed of grits. Never had crab cakes like that but oh my, what a great combo! Then let's talk dessert. The bread pudding was a huge serving, could've gotten and order for the whole table seriously! It tasted like a cinnamon French toast. Another in our group got the cheesecake, and again could've gotten one for the whole table. It was light but very flavorful! The atmosphere is outstanding! Decor is beautiful and the bar/lounge area is inviting with big comphy couches to relax on and chat while you wait for your table. We have visited several times with different groups of people. The service was a tad slow this visit and the drinks were very slow coming from the bar. We tried the brussel sprouts and fried pickles for appetizers. The brussel sprouts were really good - the pickles were way too salty. The filet was good as well as the prime rib. The special was tuna steak - it was not good and all the items on the plate were barely warm. I had the past primavera. It was terrible. It was supposed to have kale pesto but the bottom of the bowl was watery ick. The vegetables were over cooked and flavorless. There were some small hard stick like things which may have come from the pesto which were inedible. Only thing that was decent on the pasta dish was the shaved Parmesan cheese. The ambiance would be a reason to go, but when you add in the food...It is the only place to go. The Truffle Fries are so bad because they are sooo good, and you will eat more than you should...It's OK; you can't help yourself. I had to have some surgery and on the way home I asked my husband to take me there so I could eat some of the hot Truffle Fries in the car before going home. The dress is casual, but PJ's maybe not. It is the only place we take company when they come to town. No one has been anything but complimentary about the entire experience. I have had friends come visit who went to school here and they are almost jealous, They live in the bigger cities, Greenville, Raleigh, and Atlanta, but none compare to The Feed Sack. This is a very special place and it is not for those in a rush. It is the kind of restaurant that you must enjoy and appreciate all the little extras. Pork chop dinner was not very good (chop overcooked, whipped potato was smaller the usual portion and they ran out of the corn that was to come with the meal).
