I have been a client of BIANCA's for many years now and would never go to an other hair dresser. she is able to get my hair the palest and evenly toned ashy blonde every time even when there are many months and inches of roots between appointments. she does her best to--despite bleaching my hair-- do as little damage to it as possible (which if i'm being honest is not the norm with hair stylists). every time i leave my appointment i have much healthier feeling hair than i came in with. the overall experience and hours spent getting my hair as blonde as possible is truly a+. she always consults with me at length regarding the bleaching/toning processes she is going to use and we painstakingly pick the toner to use after it is lifted. as far as the hair cuts are concerned she always gives me exactly what i want-- taking off as little of the length as she can while still getting rid of my unhealthy split end hair. over the years i have gotten long layers, short layers, bobs, shags, bettie bangs, and more recently the au currant long hair straight across the bottom with fewer layers-- and each cut has been exactly what i had asked for at the time and every detail was carried out perfectly. she even spends like 20 minutes making sure my bangs are exactly the way i want. she is a skilled veteran stylist and is easy to talk to, knowing that it is inevitably a big part of her profession. honestly i have so much fun during the many hours it takes to do my hair at the fig on 3rd. bianca is very attentive to my comfort throughout. yes, the prices are higher than they might be at supercuts or whatever but personally my hair is not where i'm doing my penny pinching-- i want my hair to look good. the level of work i am looking to have done to my hair and care i want paid to it doesn't happen at a lower level salon. if i'm being straight up i get so many compliments on my hair all of the time and i always direct them to bianca. being platinum blonde takes maintenance and she always offers tips on how to keep my hair from getting brassy-- even offering to mix up a toner for me to bring home so i can touch up without having to come in. i have been dying my hair platinum blonde for 14 years now and have been to many hair stylists and once i started going to bianca it would never occur to me to book an appointment anywhere else. read more

I recently decided to go platinum blonde this summer from a lighter version of my natural black color. My stylist in the Bay Area told me it would take her *at least* four times to get it to the shade I wanted. Wow. That's a lot of treatment. Since I'm down in LA at least a week per month, I decided to give The Fig On Third a try. I looked at many, many salons on yelp and Bianca seemed to be the girl for the job. I was absolutely right. She is very thorough in her explanations of what to expect and how long treatment will take. My first dye job came out a warm blonde, but still much lighter than I expected for a first try. I just went back yesterday for round 2 and BOOM! Very cool tone, almost identical to the photo I showed her. I'm sure next round will be the one, if I even decide to go lighter. I'm so happy won the shade and the service at The Fig. I don't see how anyone cannot be happy with Bianca, since she's very straight forward about what to expect and does her job exceptionally well. I went to see Mandy Jo for some new color on a whim & walked out with perhaps my favorite dye job I've ever had. As someone who's been getting My Little Pony style hair color since '99 or so, that's saying a lot! I came in with hair with multiple faded colors, different levels of lift, some virgin grow out, and ends that have been bleached 6+ times. And yet, I got an amazing, bold creation, some trimming of the ends without losing my hard-fought length, and soft hair my fingers glide through. Brilliant. I've been going to The Fig for a little over two years and have no intention of going anywhere else. I ended up in Sherri's chair by a complete fluke, but I'm so happy that I found her. Sherri is an absolute magician with hair and I have never left The Fig without being completely and totally satisfied with her work. My hair is naturally an extremely dark shade of brown and she managed to bring me to a gorgeous ashy blonde while maintaining the health and integrity of my hair. She is an utmost professional (super punctual and prepared every time I've gone to her!) and is unbelievably prompt with her communication. She truly goes out of her way to accommodate you--she has come in on her off days and managed to squeeze me in for a last minute appointment more than once--and on top of all this, she just knows hair (cut, color, etc.) so damn well. Almost every time I go in to see her, I have a very vague idea of what I want to do with my hair and every time she goes above and beyond anything I could've hoped for. Basically, there are PLENTY of other salons in the area, but you would be hard pressed to find stylists more talented, professional, and kind than these two amazing women at The Fig Salon. At first I was overly thrilled with my new hair! I've been debating dying my hair some sort of ombre color for awhile now and finally had the balls to do it. Thelma was great and I followed her advice on everything from not washing my hair every day and bought every product she recommended. Needless to say after all was said and done I spent almost $400 on everything including tip. Unfortunately to my dismay the purple washed out within a week but unfortunately since I waited an extra week to call bc I was too busy the week before they wouldn't help me out. I spoke with a manager who finally agreed to let me come in that day but I was too busy and could not come in. Also I would've still had to pay for the products they used which she basically said would probably wash out in a week again. The reason I went to a salon in the first place was to guarantee the color would not wash out within a week otherwise I would've just bought over the counter dye and had a friend do it. I asked to do it the following week when I wasn't so busy and interviewing for jobs but she would not let me. All in all if you aren't strapped for cash and can afford to shell out hundreds every 2 weeks than this is your place but next time I'll go somewhere else where they can guarantee my hair to last longer :/ read more

Convinced that she would be able to serve me up the textured bob and effortless beach wave style, I decided to give the salon a call. Phone rang, all the way to voicemail. Damnit! Lol. I left a message and not even an hour later my phone call was returned and I was even able to get an appointment that very week. How awesome is that!? The day after Thanksgiving, appointment at 12. I arrive show B what I wanted and over all goal (with color at a later date) and huntyyyyyyy she gave me that cut girl. Exactly what I wanted! She was so sweet and knowledgeable. And when she was done drying my hair she honored my request of the beachy wave look. While she was gently wanding my hair she also explained to me how I myself can achieve the look at home. Overall, if anyone is looking for a new hairstylist and wants someone who listens and explains what is going on while you're sitting in the chair Bianca is the stylist to see. The Fig Salon on third has exceptional stylists and fair prices. For me it was even better because it was just north from me, literally 10 minutes to drive up. So that was icing on the cake. I'd been getting my hair cut by Nikki for a little over a year at another salon when news broke that she was opening her own place: The Fig On Third. How exciting! :) The salon is located on W 3rd St across from Ralph's and next to That Jean Shop. Unfortunately, they do not provide parking, but there's plenty of street parking on Sycamore Ave and Orange Dr. I love coming to this salon because it feels like visiting a friend's house. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is casual and fun. The decor is simple, yet creative. The front of the salon consists of stylists' stations on both walls and I noticed that everyone has their baby picture above their station - cute! You go down a short hallway, passing the room where they wash your hair, to reach the reception in the back. There's a waiting area with coffee, tea, water, and magazines. They also have FREE wifi so don't hesitate to ask for the login and password. As I said earlier, my stylist is the amazing Nikki! She's great at listening and bringing your vision of what you want your hair to look like to real life. I remember the first time she cut my hair, I told her I was going for a "60s, Mad Men look, but with a modern twist" and she did such a great job, I was more than happy to become a returning client. I also appreciate that she doesn't cut my hair too short when I tell her I prefer longer hair (I feel like a lot of stylists don't listen when you tell them this), plus her hair cuts grow out nicely. I found my home salon! It's taken my 7 months and three salon, all good enough, but not as good as The Fig. I won't tell you who I see, because I'm greedy. Also, I think they are all talented I can in a longtime brunette and left a fabulous red head. I have always been very scared on red. Yelp reviews disappointed me this time. That's how I found BIANCA. I saw some soft long layers pics On Yelp and they got some great reviews. When I met her, she's got that light purple hair, puckish looking girl who hardly smiles. She doesn't really listen. She has that arrogant demeanor and she starts complaining about how customers would come in and wanna look exactly like what's in the picture. She says its impossible. But she also says that she knows exactly what I want and she can give me a very similar cut which is very simple, a little shorter "Soft, layers" I get what she's saying because I am reasonable. So the whole time I was being polite and go along with it, hoping that she will give me similar to what I wanted it. She said she could. But,I should've trusted my gut instinct and ended the session right after the consultation. I didn't want to be rude and it was awkward to walk out because they've already gotten your home address, email and all that info you need to fill out before your consultation. I noticed her attitude but I thought that was just her way of doing things and it didn't bother me as long as I get a good hair cut. But Instead, I got the ugliest hair cut I've ever seen for $85 + cash only tip or else there is an app you need to download to tip them. They don't feel obligated to tell you to go across the street to ATM machine to get cash . It was customers unfriendly, in my opinion. However, I created a friendly atmosphere the whole time I was there. But you won't see me coming back ever again. My cut was No where near SOFT or ELEGANT layers. B****! I don't wanna look like you. Went to Bianca for my coloring and I really liked her service. I'm on the journey to light ash blonde and I appreciate her thinking of my hairs health instead of just over bleaching it all at once. She was actually able to get it to a light caramel color the first round and I hardly have seen any damage and it's been a little over a month. She is not a nosey stylist and I REAALLY appreciate that, sometimes in this industry everyone wants to know everything about everything and gossip but Bianca is very professional. Hayley was eager to ask what I was looking for and listen to my input as well as provide suggestions to help me decide on my next color. I had my mop completely revitalized by Mandy Jo this past week! I've been looking for a hair stylist/colorist since moving to LA, and I am so so so glad I waited until Mandy Jo and I found each other. I went from a really poorly done blonde highlight situation, with about three inches of growth, to a full platinum in hours. I've waited my entire adolescent/adult life to do this with my hair, and I honestly couldn't be happier. Update Halloween: I am dressed up as someone with a bad haircut - oh hey?! I am NOT dressed up at all!!! Update October 16th: Still hate my haircut, hair is falling into my face:( Update October 10th: the bad blending and asymmetric cut begin to show more detailed. Hair is hanging in my face. Very unpleasant. Update October 5th: Still hate my haircut! Completely incompetent!! Screwed up my hair and refused to refund me!!! I was there for a men's haircut. This was the first time a hairdresser really fucked up my hair. I showed them pictures of me having the perfect haircut from 8 different angles. The lady (I think Gabi or so) said "OK" and immediately started shaving my head like I was going to war with Forrest Gump. The pictures I showed them did not indicate the use of the machine on the sides. After I recognized what a mess my hair was and that I looked like Cletus from the Simpsons another lady tried to reduce the damage and promised me a refund. She came back after 15 minutes and told me "I am sorry but we do not have a refund policy" -obviously the second completely incompetent hairdresser there. NEVER AGAIN!!! read more

I have hesitated for months whether or not I should leave this review. Originally I had an appointment scheduled with Nikki. I wanted to change my appointment time and the receptionist recommended I go to Teresa instead. I showed up with very long hair (mid back) but after being sick with a disease, I needed to cut it all off and grow a new head of hair. I thought a shoulder length shag would be awesome. I brought several pictures to show every angle of exactly how I wanted it. Teresa started with a shampoo that also washed my face and filled my ears will soapy water. I should've left then, but I didn't and I'm painfully regretting it to this day. She combed my hair and immediately made the first cut at my ear and proceeded to cut it two inches long for a shoulder length shag! I was so freaked out and I froze. She proceeded to cut off all my hair, so that I basically had a bang bowl cut with little to nothing in the back. It is now six months later and it's finally grown out a little bit into a "Midwestern mom" do and my hair is still inches away from my shoulders! When she was finished she couldn't understand why I wasn't thrilled with the horrendous cut. I was trying not to cry. I had never had short hair before and it looked awful on me and nothing even close to the photos I brought. I'm the idiot because not only did I pay for it, I tipped her 20% and it kills me every morning I try to style this monstrosity. Oh and did I mention I'm a hairstylist? So I usually cut my own hair. If you want a short or shoulder length do, go to Teresa at your own risk. You've been warned. I cried for a week. read more

I went to Sunni for a trim and some color to darken up my roots for a darker obmbre effect with my natural medium brown hair color. Sunni was very friendly and I had a pleasant experience with her. She definitely didn't mess up my hair, but considering I paid $300 I have to say I wasn't blown away. Now, I'm not a hair expert by any means, but I have been getting my hair colored for over 10 years now so you could say I have a general understanding of hair coloring. We picked a darker brown color, but I felt like I was processing longer than I should have been. When I finally saw the color after my hair was dried I got really nervous. It was nearly black and much darker than the color we picked. I definitely know how hard it is to get black hair dye out, but I told myself it would probably fade out after a couple of washes. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I don't look awful with super dark hair, but now I have to wait a very very long time for my hair to grow and the color to fade to get the actual look I was going for because I don't want to try and lift the color out. The salon itself is OK. It's clean and easy to get to, but the layout is kind of awkward with the register and waiting area in the back of the salon past all of the stations as opposed to the front of the building. Would I come here again or recommend to a friend? Probably not. read more

I went to The Fig for the first time today for a color change. I've been highlighting my naturally brown hair for longer than I would like to admit. I wanted a change, something more modern, but nothing too edgy, and I wanted to keep some of the blonde. I was referred to Nikki by a model whose agency recommends her as she's good at keeping it "natural". I went once and had AMAZING results. Went back for a root touch up and after applying the color she left me sitting for a very long time (at least 60 minutes) while she did a men's haircut. When she washed me my hair was jet black, and was about 5 shades darker than it should have been. She said it went "deep" but didn't offer right then to fix it. When I left, $250 later (root color, trim and blow dry), I got in my car and saw it in natural light and started panicking. I called back and she offered for me to come in so she could bleach wash it... But the salon is very far from my office and home and I was honestly scared. She refunded the cost of color only ($100!) and I do like Nikki but can't trust her to do this again. Lesson learned to demand a fix on the spot. But still.... This shouldn't happen. I recommend asking that you be her sole client during a color. Also- she left dye all around my hairline and it was a mess-- and the color was awful--- not cool. I have spent over $1000 fixing this in the last couple of months. I had to bleach it out and then color it again. What a costly and time intensive process. The salon itself isn't luxurious or relaxing- very artsy and creative. The reception desk is in the back and they don't have a receptionist. Nicole is incredibly talented and very thorough. She always gives 100% every time she does my hair and always takes great care of me. I am very picky about my blonde and sometimes have had a hard time getting what I want from previous colorists, however Nicole always gives me what I ask for and suggests great affordable products for me to use. She's always down for my questions and concerns when it comes to my color and haircuts so I never feel like I'm asking a lame question. I hate writing bad reviews but I feel that I really have to write one for The Fig On Third Salon. I booked a hair cut appointment earlier in the week for today, Saturday at noon. I never got a reminder text or a call and I was about to call them around 11am to confirm my appointment today at noon. Before I got the chance to call I got a call from the salon asking me if I can push the appointment back an hour (1pm instead of noon). Unfortunately, I couldn't change my appointment as I already had another appointment scheduled after my hair cut and they didn't let me know until an hour before my appointment. The receptionist agreed to honor my noon appointment. Thirty minutes later at 11:30am I get a voice mail from the salon asking me if I can push my appointment to 12:30pm. I called the salon and told them again that I was not able to push my appointment. The receptionist seemed really lost and told me to come in at 1:15, I again reminded her that my appointment was for noon. She then told me to come in at 12:15 and I again told her that my appointment was at noon and that I had a really tight schedule and couldn't switch my appointment. I asked if I should cancel my appointment as I didn't want to be rushed. She said that was not necessary and to come in at 12:15pm. Throughout the end of my conversation the receptionist was really rude and when I agreed to come at 12:15 she just rudely hung up on me. The receptionist was so rude that I decided to not show up for my appointment. I was really looking forward to trying out this salon as I live near by and my old Salon (DNA) closed. I never got to try the hair cut but due to their customer service I will never know. read more

Before i started coming here, i never got my hair done professionally. I used to use box dye so bad, i know that now thanks to Mandy. I saw Mandy's work on Instagram and i was amazed! I first went to her to lighten my hair from a dark brown. She is awesome!! I love her ideas and have always been happy with how my hair has turned out. I dont go to anyone else to do my hair now. I am VERY picky with hair salons but I can honestly say, this is the BEST hair salon in LA!!!! Niki (owner) has been my hair stylist for years now and man, does she know hair! Every time I get my hair done with her (cut, color) It's as if she has read my mind and I am always beyond pleased with the outcome. The staff is super friendly, the ambiance is so cute (think hipster chic but not in a deushy way) and the services are out of this world. I ALWAYS get compliments on my hair because of Niki. If you wanna change up your look (ie. something drastic) Niki (or pretty much anyone there I can assume) is the best. Or, if you just need a cut or color this is the place to go. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. I've been to hair salons all over the world (Paris/Dubai/Beirut) and nothing comes close to this. I always come out of there pleased and my mouth hurts from laughing so much in the salon. These guys are the sweetest! I have gotten haircuts from the most high end salons and just from friends. I am happy to say I have never gotten a better haircut than from the very awesome and caring people of The Fig on Third. Dru cuts my hair, she rocks. read more
