You can see the the staff grill the patties and make the burgers fresh as soon as you order. This is an outdoor only dining. And it gets crowded quickly so while theres plenty of parking, it can fill up quick. All dining is outdoor on the terrace. What a gem. I'm originally from the Hudson Valley but moved away 15 years ago. I was driving from Florida to Boston and wound up stopping at TFS as I drove by on my way to the Tappen Zee. Anyhow burger was amazing, perfectly prepared and flavorful. The best I ever had, no, but certainly in a top 10 list. The fries were exceptional and more like top 5. This is one of two locations that are quite the interesting venues. The other is in West Haverstraw in an old gas station therefore the name. Each site is consistent in providing cold draft and other beverages. The fries are to die for and the burgers are some of the best in Rockland. I'm a hot dog guy and was quite happy. The Palisades location adjoins the 9W Cafe which provides additional food and dessert options in a very very nice location. Adjacent to another restaurant, TFS is a unique dining experience. They have no indoor seating, just benches and umbrellas, to enjoy sunny summer days with burgers and dogs. Their menu is filled with interesting burgers. There are bunch of hot dogs and other sides. I went with hot dog and philly dog for my first try. They were both decent but the sauerkraut was lil bit too sour and philly dog had too much onion on it. But their are solid. If I visit them again, I'll surely try out one of the burgers. read more

I am honestly shocked by my experience since everyone raves about their burgers. Both my boyfriend and I agree the burgers were not good at all. The beef was not fresh and just tasted very bad. It was also very greasy. The fries weren't that good either. We got up and left and didn't eat much of our food. Also they have a ton of laternflies making it unenjoyable to sit outside. Wow! I used to love this place. The quality has deteriorated so much it's unbelievable. I got the 1/4lb hot dog with sauerkraut. Firstly, it's hardly 1/4lb. The sauerkraut looked like it was heated on the grill with all the grease and burnt meat mixed in it. Not the fresh home made quality promised on the menu. The hot dog besides being tiny was so hard to bite into. I would have been better off getting one at the gas station on the PIP. My wife asked for a grilled cheese on whole wheat, it came on white bread. Not that big a deal. But boy, did it look nasty. The french fries tasted good as always, but it would be nice if they changed the cooking oil and didn't overcook them. That way maybe they wouldn't be so greasy. This place is living on its laurels, but that's not gonna last forever. How about freshening this place up and maybe make it look a little cleaner and a little more inviting? I had a fairly basic cheeseburger with LTO. Cooked perfectly - although I don't recall them asking how I liked my burger done. The patty was tasty as in "Yay! I'm a fan" but not to die for. The service was friendly. It was not fast but a burger takes time to cook right? It was not crowded but I could see if it was rush hour how the wait could be pretty big. The beer selection is very good - not amazing but certainly a big step up from just your Coors, Bud, Lite selection. The fries for exceptional. Very very good. The shakes looked great. Maybe next time on that for me. IMO the counter area could use a cleaning. I was no put off, but there's a build up of grease all around (as it's a burger joint - I get it). I preferred the sweet potato fries - they're thicker fries and crispier. Everything was great and it was a nice and quick meal. While driving towards Nyack with a friend to do some internal (upstate) tourism we came upon this hidden little place on the north side of Palisades and at the edge of the Talisman Park. The Filling Station has two eating spots, one for ordering outdoors (if you're in the mood for burgers) and an indoor market. Being hangry, and needing a good fill, we ordered burgers--I had the American Kobe, she had the Overkill. I would say prices are reasonable, no more than you would pay at Five Guys which itemizes additions to its own burgers. However, holy cow (no pun intended) they are good--I never overate but boy did I enjoy my serving which was more than enough. The eating experience in the market was also quite warm and welcoming, and had we not been on a schedule we would have stayed a bit longer just to enjoy the place and maybe walk around outside. Inside, there is a market filled with deli meats and other home-made dishes.
