" Tale of two worlds " I live in chestnuthill in newton ma . I walk around in workout clothing in my neighborhood . ( sometimes mismatched because my personal trainer rushes me). This store is furthest down from my walk. The first time I went in this store in workout clothes I didn't have the best experience, lol. The second time I went in dressed in designer pieces it was a pleasant experience, lol. The store was well kept and had nice things in both experiences. The clothing and purses I saw looked new or in mint condition. I am a year in the consignment game . New world for me , I am a regular in another consignment shop in the area for about a year . I just developed a relationship with them . Due to the fact they treated me well with workout clothes the first time, I went in . However if I ever see anything in this store I like enough . I definitely will buy it . Due to the fact I was treated well the second time , lol. I assume the first time was a misunderstanding on their end . I love their window displays it always looks so well put together. I will try not to come in to shop in workout clothes, lol. Like I said I am new to the consignment game a year in . Run don't walk!!!! The Finer Consigner has unique, quality designer items that fit any budget. The unique color of the bag is what made this "the one." The two women working behind the counter were extremely helpful and as a bonus provided many laughs during my shopping experience. I would hesitate before bringing clothes here for consignment. It is not clear at all how legit this store is. I brought several items in last year and never heard from the store. It turns out one item was sold and I had to chase the owner down to get the full payment. I have no idea what the item actually sold for--and the amount the store assistant said I was to get was different than the one I got. Better to go elsewhere to consign your clothes. It makes me sad to write this review as I'd had high hopes for this local business. I took two rounds of clothing there for consignment. The deal is that you forfeit your clothing if you don't claim it at the end of the consignment period. Both times, I called before the end of the period and said I didn't want to forfeit my clothes and would come to pick them up. I was told - dismissively - not to worry, they would just restart the consignment period. At one point I got a check in the mail for $18 because one of my pieces sold. Other than that, no checks. Yet when I called to have my items pulled for pickup because nothing was selling, I was told several pieces were gone. When I went to pick my items up, I was told that I'd forfeited my items because my consignment period was over. So no items, no checks. Bottom line: they don't put anything in writing. It's my fault for not demanding a written, ITEMIZED contract. They are at best disorganized and at worst dishonest. I consign with The Real Real now and it is very professional, with better prices for my luxury items. read more

The Finer Consigner is one of my all time favorite stores! It is not your typical consignment store as all merchandise is thoughtfully selected and must fit certain criteria (new with tags or immaculate condition). An amazing gem in Newton Center with an incredible and timeless high end designer collection (clothing, accessories, handbags, jewelry, you name it)! I also love consigning pieces from my personal collection because the owner Jill is phenomenal to work with during the consignment process! She is so professional, always current on latest trends and outsources to fulfill clients' luxury wishlists. Pieces fly out of the store as fast as they come in. I went to this 'place' to learn more about the process of selling a few beautiful, barely used (and expensive, I might add) Kate Spade bags. After waiting for about 10 minutes to be helped (even folks who walked in after me were helped more quickly, maybe because they were dressed up and 'looked rich'), I was finally given poor service. Forgive me for not fully understanding what 'consignment' means and how the process works, but I do not think it necessary to be glared at, sighed at, and told (verbatim) 'You obviously have no clue, and really, we do not take Kate Spade so you should just leave.' Wow. I was mortified. Further, as I was leaving, I saw her roll her eyes at me and giggle to another customer. I will never go here ever again. I was excited to get some clothes for my upcoming trip to Las Vegas. I walked in and saw some racks of nice clothes (including a $10 rack). As I was browsing, several other people came in and were attended to and I was completely ignored. I walked around the place and tried stuff on for half an hour and was not assisted once. I was really disappointed. I read several bad reviews but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. The staff is rude and entitled and the consignment minimum is too high. They actually told me to go home, find more things and come back. I had 4 items by Chanel & Gucci that were in really good shape but they gave me nothing but grief from the moment I walked in the door (actually, not the moment - I had to wait for them to finish bickering about the work schedule before they even acknowledged me). I understand that social skills are foreign concepts to some people, but when you own a business, you should probably make some kind of effort to be courteous to those who will spend money and contribute to your success. The employees should be reminded that what a person wears into a store does not reflect how much money they can spend! Prices were too high for the quality of consignment product they were selling! Just found the place and scored on some really cute and DIFFERENT tank tops etc for Key West visit after I found nothing in the chain stores. Also scored on some 7 corduroys on 1/2 off sale ( 38 dollars!) I found the folks incredibly helpful even on a busy Saturday. They helped me put together the looks and break out of my conservative look. Go on Saturdays as the non-owner who works there only on Saturday will help you play dress up and is honest about how you look. DAMMIT why didn't that Burberry sweater fit me! I like the clothes but can't stand the "ladies" who work there except for one who works on mondays (the monday girl). They are so unfriendly, act like they are doing you a favor to ring you up or answer questions, and are petty and gossipy while chatting with their friends. I like the things I purchased. When I asked to things to be returned- there is a window that if you don't pick up the item becomes store property. Last winter I asked for my bags after Christmas. I was advised to wait as thing might sell. There was a bag that did not sell, but was not returned to me. I saw it for sale at the second time around down the block. Contrary to the previous reviews, I found the people at the story extremely helpful and nice. They found me a great pair of theory pants which they generously marked down from 88-68 dollars. Even 88 would have been a bargain. Yes, they certainly keep the prices high, but that is because they only sell high quality stuff. I have found this shop to be convenient, well stocked with items in my size and budget, and the staff to be exceptionally helpful on three occasions when I needed something for special occasions. I don't buy designer clothes for everyday wear and am petite so generally find department stores to have limited selections. When I walked in to Finer Consigner the gals behind the counter greeted me and gave me the space to browse. Then when I asked for assistance they flew into action sizing me up, asking questions, pulling items from around the store and even accessing the stock in the back - I felt like I had a team of personal stylists working with me to assemble complete outfits. This isn't a thrift store- the clothing is all in great condition or almost new seeming and the prices were generally about what you would pay for new clothes from typical mall or moderate off the rack department stores but for designer pieces that had distinctive style. read more

This is where you go to find designer (real designer - Chanel, Gucci, Versace, etc) items for special occasions and for work. This is well edited, contemporary clothing - not vintage. The prices are accordingly high but everything is in pristine condition. The best place to look is the sales racks - I bought a STUNNING pair of Manolo Blahnik spectators for $40 on sale and a $20 pair of Alexander McQueen black capris. The only reason this gets 3 instead of 5 stars (and it is a big reason) is because the sales people are miserable. You know the scene in Pretty Women where Julia Roberts gets rejected from a fancy store by the snotty sales women. These are those women. If you don't look like them, they are not going to give you the time of day. With that said, I still go here because the clothing is THAT beautiful. read more

Long Story Short. I wouldn't even give them one star but zero isn't an option. Consigned 7 items. Some sold, sold did not. After consignment period was up, I called to see what had not sold. They said 3 items (3 pair sunglasses) but they could not locate the third item. They said they would look..nobody really looked and nobody called back. I went in to pick up my 3 items 2 weeks later after playing phone tag and they still could not locate one item. The owner (Amy) is rude, obnoxious and says she isn't responsible for lost or stolen items (that were in her locked case, by the way). Apparently she isn't responsible for anything. She is disorganzied (to say the least), rude, unprofessional and she loses or throws things away and claims she isn't responsible. She returned 2 pair of Chanel sunglasses that did not sell WITHOUT their cases which were pristine. She lost another pair of Gucci Sunglasses altogether and said 'Sorry, my space is too small and I don't know where they went.' They lost the dust bags to a pair of Miu Miu knee high boots that I was consigning. They returned the boots but not the bags. They said they stuff their purses with them and couldn't be bothered to look. They are not theirs to lose, throw away or steal when under contract. Its' principally unethical. Her problem solving skills and customer service isn't timely or professional. This place is not a business because none of these practices are good business practices. This week i stopped in to learn about consigning some designer clothes. I felt like i was playing twenty questions--it was for them to know and me to get it out of them. There was definitly a rude quality. I went back two days later with the clothes, only to be told you must consign at least six things at a time. I stopped at Finer Consigner on my way to a dinner as I had forgotten my jewelry and sweater when I packed in the morning. I was literally just driving through Newton Center and stopped at an open parking spot outside the store (which I had never heard of). Amy was great. She found the perfect piece of costume jewelry and a dressy sweater for my outfit, found a lint roller for my (faulty) shawl and sent me on my way! I'll definitely return. read more
