    Basa and Shrimp
    Kelly T.

This place is one of the best places to get seafood in the entire Tampa Bay Area. The staff is always warm, friendly, and extremely helpful. There is only outdoor seating, but this is the perfect place to enjoy a breezy evening, so the atmosphere is perfect for this type of restaurant. The seafood is always fresh. Like really fresh. It has a light batter. It is always fried to perfection. They let the natural sweet taste of the fresh seafood shine through without adding too much batter or seasoning. My go-to favorite is the basa and shrimp combo. I typically get a large so I split it with my partner. The fish is light and flaky. The shrimp is perfect! The combo comes with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce, and both of these sauces are great here. We tried something last night that I never had here before: dessert! We got both a key lime pie and a peanut butter pie. Both were great! This place is absolutely worth the drive to get the best seafood around.

The seafood was fried to perfection. My only complain is there was seasoning in anything.. the baked beans taste like canned pork-n-beans. Everything was cooked fresh and only about 10ish minutes to get food. There is no indoor seating. Food was not greasy which was a huge plus.

Quaint roadside restaurant. Service is excellent and food is delicious. I had the sampler platter, reminds me of Carolina Calabash. The croquets are delicious.

Cute place and I'm glad they reopened. Went down there with a relative and enjoyed their grand reopening. I got the jambalaya soup and it was very delicious and perfectly spicy. My relative got the grouper sandwich and I got the clam sandwich. Both were good, the roll isn't my favorite, but it was a good sandwich.

    Sorry I love ketchup lol

Friendly staff. Overheard the owner telling her story of how she obtained the shop. Very interesting. Glad I stopped by. Happy to finally find a fish & chips spot that's affordable & good. Hard to find a decent fish spot in the Bay Area (weird)! Food was good. I got the clam chowder and also the fish & shrimp combo w grits. The soup was soooo good. I wish they had a larger size! There is parking & outside bench seating. Friendly environment. I will be a regular.

Food- ! That's why we came ! ***** 14 years since my first visit and it just keeps getting better! Service- With a smile, skill, passion and a sense of family. Ambiance- Perfectly casual, chill, friendly, neighborly, and if you can't make new friends here it just means you got takeout. When my friends and family are planning their vacation visits they will always assume a ride to The Fish House !

An amazing staple in the Ruskin and Apollo Beach area. We love the freshness of the products along with the always consistent customer service! You can get pretty much any seafood you're craving at a great and reasonable price here! I have a picture of my whole mullet on my photos but it was soooo good and brought me back to my childhood! The oysters and shrimp was seasoned perfectly so we also appreciated that! If you're in the area, make it a point to stop by and get some great food!

Finally we went to the fish house. The soft shell crab was great! A little bit salty for me but 5 stars. Green beans was over cooked. I couldn't finish it.

Food was exemplary and for coming from such a small kitchen I was blown away by the speed of service. I ordered a "soup of the day" (lobster bisque). It was creamy and delicate. I also ordered the soft shell crab combo with catfish to accompany it. The small size was a fairly large portion. The batter was light and tasty. I enjoyed both, but the soft shell crab was the star of the show. They have free refills! I recommend the sweet tea. It was delicious. If you are looking for a picnic setting and good fried seafood this is a great choice.

    Grouper Sandwich and sampler

Was skeptical, outdoor... order and sit at a bench (we're obviously out of towners). Places like this are often just heavy deep fried gut bombs. So happy we drove here and got over our reservations. Absolutely delicious grouper sandwich. Got a sampler platter as well. Instead of heavy and greasy. It was light, and so flavorful. No doubt this is a new staple when we come down to the area. Also, really want to thank the staff for being helpful and offer suggestions. All the ladies working were very friendly and helpful.

As an 18 year pescatarian, I am always on the look out for seafood restaurants. I decided to stop by The Fish House on a Thursday evening. The restaurant is a small hut like building with an overhead cover. There are plenty of spaces to park in the large dirt parking lot. But be sure to not come after a car wash. Upon my arrival there were 2 people in line waiting to place their order and 3-4 parties were seated waiting to receive their order. After scanning the menu, I decided to select the Basa & Shrimp Combo which came with two sides. I selected the fries and coleslaw. The total cost of the meal was just over $16. The order came with 4 pieces of fish and 10 shrimp. The fish portions were very small, essentially they equated to 1 or 1 and a quarter pieces of fish in total. The fish was fried decently however, it was as if no seasoning was utilized during the preparation process. I ended up adding 2 or 3 condiments to the fish to add a bit of flavor. It appears that my search continues to find a go-to seafood restaurant.

    Walk up service.

If you like all things deep fried you'll enjoy the food here. We were pretty sure the food would be good when we saw the place filled with locals & they were waiting in line to get their food - 30 minutes no less. We got the soft shelled crabs & the platter. The BASA fish was cooked well but didn't have much flavor - the oysters & shrimp were flavorful & cooked perfectly but the scallops were the small ones giving you basically a small bite. Soft shell crabs were very tasty! We weren't looking for eat in but wanted fish/seafood & this place fit the bill. Better than burgers in the snow.

We ordered the shot honey grouper sandwich, bang bang shrimp fries, fried shrimp and grouper bites. Three were weekend specials for $9.99. That price and quality cannot be beat! The hot honey grouper was awesome. Very nice filet of grouper with hot honey on it. Sweet, spicy and freshly cooked. 10/10. Fries were freshly fried and had a nice seasoning. Great meal. My son had the grilled grouper bites. They were cooked perfectly and he devoured them. 2 thumbs up! Other son had the shrimp basket. Fried shrimp were juicy and crispy. Not over battered. Great taste and another 2 thumbs up. Bang bang shrimp fries were really good. Not hot but had great flavor. Fries had a ton of bacon and that yummy sauce drizzled over them. Would get again. 9/10. Easy to find, plenty of parking. Nice outdoor area with about 6 tables. Service was friendly and quick. Price was great for fresh seafood. We drove about 30 minutes and it was worth the drive!

We absolutely love the Ruskin Seafood Market for fresh fish. Very good selection and I guess ultimately we prefer to fix our own seafood.

First impression was a little suspect because it's clearly a house turned restaurant/bar. Once we got inside though, I loved the charm of it. There are different rooms you walk through and they have it all set up with tables and chairs....all different kinds so it's a modge podge of tables. Then there are cool chandeliers over the tables and bar signs everywhere. Our waitress was a new implant to Florida and she was super sweet and helpful. She also made a mean vodka tonic! Ok so let's get to the food. First we ordered the Fried Alligator Bites and the Fried Green Tomatoes as appetizers and they were both delicious! The alligator wasn't super chewy and the voodoo sauce was banging! I went with the Shrimp and Grits and sheesh I was blown away! I loved the texture and the taste of the grits. They had just the right amount of cheese and the shrimp were cooked perfectly! The hubby got the Grouper Tacos and he said they were good but a little dry. He wished they had some more toppings...either sauce or pico de gallo. My daughter got the mussel pasta. She loved the mussels but was disappointed by the penne pasta. She wished it was a bit saucier as it only had a lemony/wine liquid that wasn't sticking to the pasta. All in all this place was good. We will go at least once more since it's by where we're staying and I want to try a couple more things on the menu.

The people are also very nice even if service is a little slow. Okay, now to the meat of what you're interested in: the food. If the food were 50% cheaper you'd probably be willing to overlook its shortcomings for the ambiance. There's little seasoning to be found on anything so everything is bland. Even the fries are completely lacking in salt. The grouper was breaded nicely and cooked properly but it was almost tasteless. The bacon carried my wife's Crab BLT because everything was so bland for her. The lobster dip appetizer had uncooked Parmesan sprinkled on the bread that was neither bruschetta nor dipping bread so it just didn't work well as an appetizer either. Overall, there's a better restaurant literally next door that's a little cheaper and I can't see coming back after such a disappointing outing.

Shredded coconut in a lightly sweet batter, fried to golden perfection. The sweetness of the coating complemented the fish without overpowering it. I genuinely didn't expect to love it as much as I did. We upgraded our side to the beer-battered onion rings -- worth every penny. The batter had real flavor and a satisfying crunch that held up through the whole meal. My wife went with the lobster corn dog, and honestly it might be the most fun dish on the menu. A fluffy, mildly sweet batter wrapped around solid chunks of actual lobster, served on a stick. No filler, no shortcuts -- just real lobster. The fries on the side came out crispy and were finished with Parmesan and parsley, which elevated what could have been a throwaway side. One thing to note: skip the fountain soda. My Sprite tasted flat and watery, basically club soda in a cup. Stick with something from the bottle or grab a beer. Big Ray's is the kind of place that takes bar food seriously and executes it at a high level. Creative without being gimmicky. Already planning the next, Po boys!!!

(I can't imagine weekend nights) But don't let that hold you back. This is a fun spot-with inside dining-a huge covered deck and two other outside areas-all with great views. The food and bar menus have enough temptations to keep you coming back for that alone. The blackened mahi was cooked well and not too spicy. It comes with pineapple pico-that was balanced-not overwhelmed by onions. And the fries were really good-nice crunch-came out piping hot. And don't forget the Brussels (I sure won't!)
