This place is one of the best places to get seafood in the entire Tampa Bay Area. The staff is always warm, friendly, and extremely helpful. There is only outdoor seating, but this is the perfect place to enjoy a breezy evening, so the atmosphere is perfect for this type of restaurant. The seafood is always fresh. Like really fresh. It has a light batter. It is always fried to perfection. They let the natural sweet taste of the fresh seafood shine through without adding too much batter or seasoning. My go-to favorite is the basa and shrimp combo. I typically get a large so I split it with my partner. The fish is light and flaky. The shrimp is perfect! The combo comes with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce, and both of these sauces are great here. We tried something last night that I never had here before: dessert! I am a hugh cook, and this is the best fried fish around Tampa. Not cheap but great quality. The oil is the most impotrant thing in any restaurant and The Fish House is fresh and never burnt or old tasting. It is a light not greasy fish coating, without a heavy batter. Cute place and I'm glad they reopened. Went down there with a relative and enjoyed their grand reopening. I got the jambalaya soup and it was very delicious and perfectly spicy. Food was exemplary and for coming from such a small kitchen I was blown away by the speed of service. I ordered a "soup of the day" (lobster bisque). It was creamy and delicate. I also ordered the soft shell crab combo with catfish to accompany it. The small size was a fairly large portion. The batter was light and tasty. As an 18 year pescatarian, I am always on the look out for seafood restaurants. I decided to stop by The Fish House on a Thursday evening. The restaurant is a small hut like building with an overhead cover. There are plenty of spaces to park in the large dirt parking lot. But be sure to not come after a car wash. Upon my arrival there were 2 people in line waiting to place their order and 3-4 parties were seated waiting to receive their order. After scanning the menu, I decided to select the Basa & Shrimp Combo which came with two sides. I selected the fries and coleslaw. The total cost of the meal was just over $16. The order came with 4 pieces of fish and 10 shrimp. The fish portions were very small, essentially they equated to 1 or 1 and a quarter pieces of fish in total. The fish was fried decently however, it was as if no seasoning was utilized during the preparation process. I ended up adding 2 or 3 condiments to the fish to add a bit of flavor. It appears that my search continues to find a go-to seafood restaurant. read more

We were pretty sure the food would be good when we saw the place filled with locals & they were waiting in line to get their food - 30 minutes no less. We got the soft shelled crabs & the platter. The BASA fish was cooked well but didn't have much flavor - the oysters & shrimp were flavorful & cooked perfectly but the scallops were the small ones giving you basically a small bite. This place is so good, and so popular. You really will need to be patient about being seated. I don't even think you can make a reservation. They are always so busy. And yet after the first hurricane Helena, and then again after Milton, they still somehow managed to spend the time and energy to help people in need with food, water, and cleaning supplies while dealing with trying to run business as usual. I was so impressed, this time I wasn't there as a customer but as someone in need. And was just very impressed at how much they helped all of us, their community ,while still doing business as usual. This is probably the best seafood restaurants in the Tampa area. The food is delicious and that is because the owner only uses limited quantities of the freshest food. If you want to make sure you get something on the menu get there early. Service is fast but you meal is prepared after you order. They don't precooked and have food sitting under heat lamps. I had their catfish basket which was 8 pieces of catfish, fries and cole slaw. It was absolutely delicious. The food is fried but their secret is to lightly batter it so you can still taste the seafood. They also fresh brew the best sweet tea and have free refills. read more

This place has been on my list to try for about a year, but my family and I finally had time today. Since moving down to Tampa from Virginia, I have been on the prowl for a great seafood place. With the Tampa area being right by the water, I have tried a great deal of seafood restaurants that have just been down right bad to meh. They either are not fresh, mediocre, overpriced, or a combination of these. The Fish House blew my expectations out of the water and has given me some hope that I just need to look harder for gems like it. There is no inside seating but ample space outside. Luckily, it was breezy and sunny so we did not mind. The place was actually a bit packed and had a good sized line, which we discovered was usual for this time of day around lunch. The staff (I believe it was the owner?) was extremely friendly and made sure everyone knew what the wait time would be before and while in line so no one was disgruntled, which is rare around here. When ordering, she explained what the fresh catches were and what she recommended based off of what we were looking for. I got a great deal of food for $40, which was honestly cheaper than I expected from my previous seafood experiences in other places in the area. After about 25 minutes, we had our food and everything was fresh. I will repeat that again, EVERYTHING was fresh. We ordered the shrimp dinner, basa fish sandwich, catfish sandwich, baked beans, and fries. The shrimp were a 10/10 and extremely light and perfectly fried. I am extremely picky with eating fish not made by someone I know, so i was delighted to have liked both of the fish sandwiches. My wife, who will literally throw something fresh away if it is not good, cleaned both her shrimp and fish sandwich plates. I followed suit and did the same. Everything tasted fresh and was not heavy, which is rare for fried food. I have finally found my go-to seafood spot, and it was 10 minutes away this entire time!!! read more

Finally made it to The Fish House. Staff were friendly and working hard. They are understaffed due to the economic conditions. We got our food in less than 10 minutes. The food was very good. I had the grouper sandwich, sides of cole slaw and fries. My wife shared these and had the green beans. She loved them as they were fresh and homemade. I also had the NE clam chowder as an appetizer. It was hot and delicious and I saw real clam pieces. Total bill was about $28. We ate outside under the cover awning. It was windy but that made it comfortable. There were no issues with insects (as others pointed out), and all was clean and in order. This is a safe place if you have COVID worries. We will go back. read more

The fish house is hidden secret for the local. Thanks God we have Yelp to locate this restaurant. This is favorite of the Ruskin residents in this remote area. This restaurant is buried deep inside town. If you didn't drive to this location, you would not notice it. They have fresh fish and shrimp. But their signature dish is the smoke mullet. They serve limited fish for the day. If you come late, you may not be able to get one. However, there is plenty of other seafood you can choose. The choice included the shrimp, oyster, catfish, or soft shell crab. I got the mixed and match with shrimp and catfish. This dish is fresh and good. Two sites come with it for $12. Good deal. This place is open air with high ceilings. During the summer time, it is still cool breeze with fan blowing. read more
