I took a trip to our Daleville office and everyone I ran into there said the same thing "try Fishin Pig"! & they all said that the catfish was delicious so I had to try it. The menu says it is a sandwich but it's more like a poboy with lots of fish on a sub roll. So much that at one point I had to leave the bread behind! That's a good thing because some places don't give good portions of fish like that. The sauce was good and I just HAD to try all the barbecue sauces on the table. I'm not a bbq eater, but the sauces were REALLY good with the catfish and mixed in with my ketchup for the fries. I recently ate at The Fishin' Pig, and my experience was a mix of outstanding food and incredibly disappointing service. I'll start with the positive because the food truly deserves recognition. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The wings were some of the best I've had in a long time. They were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and tossed in a sauce that had the perfect balance of flavor without overpowering the chicken. Every bite was delicious, and they were easily the highlight of the meal. The BBQ was just as impressive. The meat was tender, smoky, and packed with flavor without being overly salty or dry. You could tell it had been cooked with care. The sides complemented the meal well, making for what should have been an excellent dining experience. If I were judging on the food alone, this would easily be a five-star restaurant. Unfortunately, the service completely changed the overall experience. From the moment we were seated, it felt like we were forgotten. It took an unusually long time before anyone came to take our drink order, and after our food arrived, our server was rarely around. Drinks sat empty for extended periods, and we had to look around multiple times just to get someone's attention. What made it even more frustrating was the waiter "groaned" when we asked for a refill. We waited far longer than necessary for simple things like refills, checking on our meal, and eventually getting the check. There was very little communication, no sense of urgency, and no effort to make sure we were enjoying our visit. Great service can elevate a meal, while poor service can overshadow even the best food. That's exactly what happened here. The kitchen clearly knows what they're doing, and the quality of the wings and BBQ is reason enough to visit. However, the front-of-house experience needs significant improvement. Friendly, attentive, and timely service should match the quality of the food being served. Of all the times we ate here this by far where the worst service we have ever had. Most of the time the service is impeccable. Tonight it fell short, I always usually leave a tip, but tonight was different. I could bring myself to leave a tip on such poor service. I genuinely hope The Fishin' Pig addresses these issues because the restaurant has tremendous potential. The food is absolutely worth recommending, especially the wings and BBQ, but customers shouldn't have to endure poor service to enjoy a great meal. This was my second time to The Fishing Pig, and my husband's first. I did not enjoy the first time but came in with an open mind hoping the first time was bad just because they were new and we were a larger party. But now it's been verified the food here is terrible. My husband had sliced brisket that he had to use a knife to cut up, and ended up using ketchup the sauces were so bad. I had BBQ nachos and the only thing good on the plate was the sour cream. I don't know how you make chips and cheese taste bad but they did it. The Memphis sauce was allll wrong- tasted strongly and vinegar and no sweetness. The potatoes in the potato salad were undercooked. The server was nice but was very slow to get back to us as she was also bartending. We sat for quite some time with empty drink glasses waiting for the check. I do not hand out such low ratings usually; I tend to be generous. But I can't recommend anyone try this place. For some time now I'd heard of a new restaurant opening in Daleville, Virginia, that specialized in Barbeque, Seafood, and Southern Cuisine. And today after finding out that it was finally open, I decided to go and try it out. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And The Fishin' Pig in Daleville, Virginia, is the perfect example. Since I'd heard that this new restaurant always got packed with customers, I decided to go there for lunch and get there early to avoid the crowd. When I arrived at around 11:30am, their large parking lot was already getting full. And this after getting somewhat lost, following my GPS instructions, and turning a turn too soon. The restaurant is located on top of a hill with one of the most beautiful views that I have ever seen from a restaurant. Taking advantage of its location, it has a relative large outdoor dining area in the back and going around the restaurant. When I arrived I was greeted by a friendly and very hospitable host and hostess behind the Host's counter, which had on top a statue of a pig holding a basket that was supposed to be filled with mints but for one reason or another had ran out. After asking me my seating preference, the hostess took me to a table next to a window in the back of the restaurant. From there I had a clear view of the outdoor patio dining area and marvelous view of the mountains around us. My server Megan arrived shortly after, and after greeting me and giving we a warm welcome, she wrote her name on the paper table cloth with a crayon from a box of crayons that were on the table to keep the young ones distracted while the food arrived. Something that immediately caught my attention was the positive attitude of all the servers and employees of this new place, who seemed eager to be of service. From the long back to back two page menu, I ordered a Chery Coke to drink, and to eat the Pulled Pork and Fried Pollock which came with slaw and I picked a side of hushpuppies. On the table was also a wooden rack with several BBQ sauces to choose from to put on top of one's Pulled Pork. Since I was one of the first customers there, it didn't take long for my food to arrive, nor for the restaurant to get totally full. I invite you to view my photographs that accompany my review to get a better sense of the place and the food. The sweet-ened honey butter that came with the plate to enjoy with the Hushpuppies was unfortunately frozen so it was hard to spread on them. I put some of the Sweet Memphis BBQ sauce over my Pulled Pork and enjoyed eating my Fried Alaskan Pollock with the tartar sauce served in a small container with it. The food was served in a generous amount and all was fresh and tasty. For dessert my waitress gave me two choices: either Velvet Cake or Pecan Pie. Yet as I was leaving I noticed inside of one of the display cases, that they had Brownies and other desserts as well which after I had eaten mine I heard the server of the table next to mine offer the customers seated there. I had also asked my server to put ice-cream on top and she told me they didn't have any. The young lady server might have been inexperienced because she also forgot to offer me a refill of my Cherry Coke. But at the moment I didn't mind because I knew this was a new restaurant and everyone was trying to do their best from what they were trained to do. I would definitely recommend this new BBQ Southern Cooking restaurant for it relaxing ambiance, magnificent location, savory food, and overall wonderful customer service. read more

Seated in a booth as large as a twin size bed and nestled between potted plants fighting for their lives, my 2 year old son dangled from a sliding wooden booster seat because they were all out of high chairs. The wait was short, the service was fine. They have Coke products. Kids meals are $6 and include a drink so pretty good bang for your buck there; a hot dog is a hot dog. Now to the adult food offerings... i ordered a seafood pretzel and it came out quickly. It was akin to a dense whole wheat pretzel overly salted and saturated in grease. On the flip, the crab dip was lukewarm and in dire need of salt. The "Better than Bang Bang" Shrimp were spicy and decent in quantity and flavor but the fried breading was more like an eroding crust hanging off the plain naked shrimp bodies underneath which were situated haphazardly on a few limp pieces of spinach. The green beans were nothing fancy with the exception of their unnatural vibrant neon green coloring which was a little unnerving. The atmosphere makes you want to like the food but the reality is the food is not good. I spent the drive home with an upset stomach wishing I had all $50 of my money back. read more

So delighted to have a great choice for seafood! We came in for lunch and were seated on the beautiful pink umbrella patio. The Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer is certainly crave-worthy. I then enjoyed the Brutus Caesar with salmon. Everything was flavorful and delicious and the salmon was succulent and fresh. My friend had the Green Salad with Chicken Toes (chicken tenders) and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our server Landon was courteous and kept checking if we needed anything. Giving this a three-star rating is being kind, but I am also giving this place the benefit of the doubt. The restaurant is new and the staff is inexperienced, and that contributed to the lack of service and basic attention to detail. We arrived and it was incredibly busy. We put our name on the waitlist and we were seated a little faster than expected. The waiter was kind, but seemed a bit overwhelmed. We had to prompt to order appetizers. Drinks weren't refilled often and the somebody's food was given to us, twice. The food was a little better than glorified bar food. The hamburger was actually really good, but the brisket sandwich and the other things we ordered were just ok. Overall, I probably won't be going back anytime soon. A new restaurant is always fun to review but we have waited a few weeks for the crowds to die down, or so we thought! We arrived at 5p and the parking lot was already full - we had a 20 min wait which wasn't too bad. We learned it was half price rib night and thus the crowd! We got to our table and our waitress was there within a minute. Very friendly and answered every question we posed! We ordered hush puppies to start which were tasty- especially with their honey butter. My dad ordered the full rack and I ordered half rack and wow - what a lot of food. Ribs were very tasty and with a variety of BBQ sauce at the table, you can't go wrong. He had beans as a side abs I had Mac b cheese. Both great. My daughter and granddaughter had chicken toes with sides and they did not disappoint. My husband had the salmon with broccoli. He loved them both and I tasted them and agree. The place was buzzing with folks and from our table we could see the beautiful view outside! The manager came by to check on us and the waitress couldn't have been more attentive. I look forward to going back with cooler temps and sitting outside. We will be back! When we left - there were no parking spaces at all and people had chosen to park on the grass in the hill as well as the roadway up and down to the place. read more

It's beautiful. I love that it's on top of the hill with a gorgeous view in any angle. The place was designed beautifully with large windows and a lovely outdoor area. The staff is very friendly and warm. We were lucky coming when they have half priced ribs. We tried the sampler first. He loved everything on the plate. I did for the most part but not a huge fan of the ribs only because they didn't fall off the bone and that's what I'm used to. The chicken was Smokey and delicious as were the brisket and pulled pork. Overall a nice sampler. We got a full rack of ribs that I gave him. I didnt hate them but they weren't exactly my cup of tea. If they had been slightly more tender than I am sure I would love them. The house sauce was delicious. Mike the owner came by to say hello and check on things. Our server McKenzie was wonderful. She was training a new employee who was also very nice. I would come back again and try something different. I do with they had a brisket plate instead of only brisket sandwiches. Very reasonable prices and the food tasted fresh. Definitely a nice place to visit but come early. To begin, this restaurant is in a perfect location with the view of Tinker Mountain and surrounding hills, as well as the easy access from interstate 81 and Rte. 220. I went there with some relatives for an early dinner, and this was the first time there for all of us. I started with the crab and spinach dip, which is very tasty. They serve it in a bread bowl along with some tortilla chips. My only suggestion would be to ditch the bread bowl and just serve the dip in a regular bowl. That allows the customers to get more of the dip on a tortilla chip, which is what I really wanted to eat. When they put it in the bread bowl, the bread absorbs some of that dip, leaving you with less to put on your tortilla chips. So if you really wanna eat the dip, you end up eating most of the bread, which can make for a very heavy appetizer. For the entrée, I went with the pulled pork (without a bun) and 2 sides: mac & cheese and collard greens. The pork was tasty, moist enough, the mac & cheese was delicious, but the collards were a little disappointing, mainly because they weren't chopped up, which made them very difficult to eat. I pulled one piece out of the bowl with my fork, and it was about 5 inches long! I don't know about you, but that's pretty hard for me to wrap around my fork. I'm just used to collard greens being chopped up in smaller pieces. The flavor was a little bland, too. They could definitely add more smoky flavor, either from a smoked turkey leg or a smoked ham hock. But our overall experience was very positive with a great view.to enjoy while you eat. If you plan on eating dinner, get there at 4 pm. If you wait till six, you'll be looking at an hour's wait. It's very hot right now! The outdoor patio area on the backside will be the primo seats once the leaves start to change later this fall! read more

Very disappointed. Took four times to get in due to no parking. Establishment is very limited for our area. By the fifth time we got there at 3:00p. The help acted like they were mad at the world. The meals are over priced. I ordered the Brutus Caesar. I received a tiny bowl about one cup in size at $14.00 and Salmon, about 4 oz at $9.00. The salad is way over priced. We will not return. We had a party of five and all agreed that it wasn't worth the additional cost. Such a shame for Daleville being so excited for opening day. read more

Seated after a 45 minute wait. Excited to see what all the hype was about from the locals. Informed they were out of pulled pork 25 minutes after placing the order with the waitress. Ended up having to get chicken tenders. Very small portions considering the price and inconvenience. Not that it would have been consumed because it wasn't impressive. I work in the hospitality industry so I still tipped 20% but the servers should be aware of what is on the 86 list before taking orders. The most pleasant item on the menu was the butter. $90 after tip on a dinning experience that was simply not worth it. If you're looking for bbq I suggest traveling a few more miles to mission bbq. The service was excellent and lively. The owners stopped by twice to ask how our experience was. The restaurant itself was packed and bustling with people but nothing overwhelming. I ate the Brady's platter, which had sausages, a quarter rack of ribs, brisket, wings, pulled pork, and slaw. Overall it was pretty good, however, it could have been a little more moist. With the ribs and pulled pork being a little dry, but adding sauce to the pork fixed the dryness, making it my favorite. I would go again, and I recommend others to try it! read more

My wife stopped in for some pulled chicken and slaw to go. She brought home a half pint of meat that wasn't nearly full and a pint of slaw. Total bill was just over $25. Wasn't enough chicken to feed two people and that dish itself was $15. I was dismayed when I weighed the meat at only 6 ounces. That's $40/lb by my math. This is the second time I've been shortchanged at this restaurant. Too bad Mr. Fridley, as I will now drive by your rip off joint and go to Mission BBQ. First time there and we had been waiting a while to try it in hopes of a new BBQ place. Parking lot was full and ended up with a 30 minute wait. No biggie... new restaurant so we expected a wait. We were seated outside and the view is great. We both ordered the Grady's Shack Sampler for $35 that had pulled pork, wings, ribs, beef sausage, and hush puppies for our meals and fried pickles to start. The fried pickles were great if you like super salty crust that falls off as soon as you dip it in the ranch dip. The sampler..... WOW! They have 4 different sauces at the table so keep that in mind. That being said, I love pulled pork so I tried it plain. I may as well have been eating shredded wet cardboard. I tried all 4 sauces on it with no help. Gave up on the bbq and moved to a hush puppy.... The butter was nothing more than whipped butter with some cinnamon mixed in it so ehh... wasn't all that. Moved to a chicken wing and it was like it was charcoal smoked with the lighter fluid taste. Ate one of those in hopes it was just a mental thing and well, it wasn't a mental thing. Moved to the brisket and I LOVE brisket. Pulled a thin piece of fat off the side (normal amount for a brisket) and went in for a nice juicy bite. WRONG.... It was like eating some dry oven baked turkey at Thanksgiving. Tried to get some juice on it with some sauce from the table and no help. Had to push it down with some soda. The sausage, now that was ok until around the second piece and then it was bringing out that lighter fluid/charcoal taste as well like the chicken. The waitress asked if we wanted a to go box and we both declined and told her it wasn't the best when she asked how everything was. The owner came over before we paid and asked if everything was good and we had to ask him if he wanted the truth. He said yes so we told him our thoughts. At that time the waitress came back with the bill and he said our meal was on him and he was sorry that it was not good. The waitress told us we were the second set of people that said the same thing about this meal. We had planned to pay for the food still but he insisted which was very nice of him so we are appreciative of that. As far as someone who said they had drinks and drinks and drinks..... you must not get out much unless all you drink is vodka and tequila. As a bourbon consumer, sometime I like a good smoked bourbon drink before my meal to unwind from a long work week. They had a bottle of Jack Daniel's and a bottle of ehh Crown Royal (neither are very favorable in the bourbon world). I personally feel like if you're going to say you have a bar, make sure you have some better options for stiff drinks. Some Knob Creek, Traveller, Penelope, Basil Hayden would be nice lower end bourbon and maybe some Blanton, ER, etc on a mid to higher end. I know you can't have it all but to just offer two "bourbon/whiskey" drinks isn't impressive. I didn't even attempt to see what beers they offered because I was driving. If you like bland, dry, tasteless food.... this is your place to go. We probably won't be back unfortunately read more
