I've been following their social media for awhile now and finally had the chance to try their lobster roll! I'm a fan of a Connecticut style roll (hot buttered lobster roll) so this was on my must-try list. The roll was expensive ($25) for a very small roll (we finished it in three bites) BUT it did contain both claw and tail meat. The roll was fresh and buttery and the lobster was cooked well. I only wished the lobster contained a little more butter. They had other items on the menu such as crab fries, coconut shrimp and on Facebook they show snow crab rolls coming soon (yuuum). The staff were really kind and even threw in a few fries for us to try. Overall, a nice experience but just expect to spend some money! read more

Note that this review is for the food truck when it was in RVA Ok, so I should have tempered my expectations because this is a food truck, and I'm not in Maine, though with the lines and the social media hype, I was hoping to be blown away. Sadly, I wasn't. Service: I stood in line for 40 minutes before I ordered and then another 12 minutes for my food. Yes, there was a line ahead of me, yet there really was zero sense of urgency to move that line at above a snails pace. I also had to ask for forks and napkins Sandwich was pretty small, and lobster was chopped up and heavily seasoned. IMHO, it didn't taste fresh either, like maybe the seasoning was an attempt to cover the quality or freshness. *Specifically reviewing the food truck* There seems to be an influx of lobster rolls joining the Richmond market and I'm all for it! The lobster rolls were perfect and satisfied my craving. They're priced similarly to competitors and are slightly bigger. The owner is super nice and went out of his way to ensure I had a great experience and that the order was up to par. I could see him doing the same with other customers. They keep their social media up to date with locations. Get there on time as the line quickly grows. One that is unafraid to cross boundaries and think outside of the box. Salty's is devoted to people who simply love good grub, regardless of traditions or what it ought to be. Let's dive right into an insane meal I had on a road trip with two others a few weeks ago. Cajun Shrimp Boil - Group's unanimous favorite of the night. Plenty of perfectly cooked shrimps swimming in the most delicious sauce imaginable. The large chunks of smoky sausages were amazing too, though the corn was a bit mushy. Chubby Jons Cheesesteak - Think Philly Cheesesteak, but add in shrimps and fried onion rings. Weird right? Whatever! It works! This was a flavor bomb that we all agreed needs to be ordered again next time. Truffle & Chive Lobster Roll - The surprise was that this item came warm to the touch and tickled your nose with that fantastic truffle aroma. Wish there were a few more lobster chunks, otherwise this was near perfect. Crab Roll - Would have been nice if they used larger lump crabmeat for this item. I wouldn't mind paying the extra price. However, I understand that not everyone is willing and maybe Salty's had to compromise. Still a good tasting sandwich. Crab Fries - Whoever decided to throw a healthy pile of crabmeat, cheese, bacon and chives on top of crispy fries is a genius. Couldn't stop picking at these even after we were stuffed. Other items we ordered included the Elote Wings that needed a bit of crispiness, as well as Lobster Mac & Cheese, which was a bit too bland compared to everything else. However, it was an excellent meal overall that left us too full to eat dinner that night. It is currently a take out and delivery operation, hence decor did not come into play. Just had Salty's Lobster & Company tonight 6/12/24. They were in my Midlothian, VA. Neighborhood tonight and I decided to stop by. I ordered a lobster roll and fries for $25 plus tax, and it wasn't very good. Just to put things in perspective, I've been eating lobster rolls for over 40 years. The lobster was overcooked, tough, and lacked flavor. The fries were barely warm at best. The man and woman working the food trailer were very friendly, and helpful, however the food was not on point. read more

This spot is super neat! Nestled in a craft and arts gallery, you can take a gander at the local arts while waiting for your food. You still cannot eat in the restaurant, but the food was delicious when we got home! The lobster roll was overflowing with whole lobster claw meat (not full of Mayo or other filler). The bread was beautifully buttered and roasted and came with a side of clarified butter and lemon. I would say the chips were not my favorite as they didn't have the usual crisp you might like, but you could tell that they were homemade! Next up was the crab boil and I must say: I LOVE THE SAUCE. I have genuinely never been more annoyed and angry with a restaurant/food truck before.... I was at a concert tonight. Their food truck was there. My husband and I went to grab food in between bands and I kid you not we had to wait over FOURTY FIVE MINUTES to get two items. Two. Items. That's all. We ended up missing a pretty large portion of the concert. I wanted to just go get my money back and go to another food tent that was there. I didn't get to do that, but I really really wish I did. However I asked my delivery person if there was utensils in the bag and they shrugged their shoulders with an "uhhuh"? And there were not any any there. We love food trucks. We absolutely love them. We were really excited to try Salty's with everything they have to offer. Last Sunday we had our chance. However, when they posted their location (they actually tagged it), they were at the wrong one. So we had to hunt them down and in spite of multiple people commenting on it, they didn't alter the location. Second, when we got there, the menu wasn't updated with what they sold out of. We are fine waiting in a food truck line for a very long time, but at least do the courtesy of letting patrons know that food is sold out. Some people call it out every so often. Some people update the board. Only people who don't really care don't update people along the way. We saw multiple people leave in frustration and they were right. That isn't how you build a brand, a loyal following or keep consistent business over the years. You may for a while, but goodwill runs out with individuals after a few times - especially when it is SO EASY to let people know what is sold out. Then word gets around. Just do the obvious thing and spend 5 seconds every few minutes telling people what is sold out. Everyone is right there - it's not hard. Also, the post said they were open from 11-7 and this was at 2pm - but they were sold out of 90% of their items just 3 hours into what was to be a stated 8 hour day. That's just terrible planning. So when you go at 2pm, you expect them to still have stuff in stock. It's not like the line was 40 people deep. Third, the food was just ok. We had a lobster roll and the loaded fries as that was all that was left. The loaded fries were...very much NOT loaded. They weren't very good. The lobster roll was ok and it was nice that it wasn't filled with mayo or something else. It was semi-fresh and it was ok. However, was it worth $25? No. There were hardly any fries with it and the portion wasn't great. Definitely not worth $25. Fourth, there was clearly a new staff member working the lemonade stand. He kept swiping back his sweaty hair (it was 90 or so) and then grabbing lemons with the same hand. That wasn't great. But what also wasn't great was that the head of the food truck spoke to him about what he was wearing, not having his hair back and all of that in front of people waiting in line. It was unprofessional and frankly, should have been handled on the front end of any working day. It also felt awkward to have that happen in front of people. We felt bad for the poor kid. It's on you as the operator to ensure your staff has sanitary hair plus other issues handles before they go on shift. It's not on a clearly young kid who is trying - unless he's been told before and has been given the rules. Handle your business professionally and outside the sight of your customers. Once that happened, we second guessed the food. They'd allowed this kid to knowingly do this for three hours - what else was happening inside the truck? So, overall not great. read more

So because the last experience was so amazing I decided to give them another try and to be honest with you I was a little worried because it was about a hour before closing on a Saturday night so I was thinking I would be getting the bottom of the barrel goods, but the Salty Lobster & CO has impressed me again even more! The craw dad's where bigger and juicier and the shrimp are always perfect and OMG those shrimp fries are absolutely frigggggin' amazing! This is a place I don't mind forking out a couple extra bucks because they are consistently bringing the flavor! My significant other and I love seafood and lobster rolls, and we decided to give Salty's a try after seeing some great reviews. We stopped in for dinner and found them wayyy in the back of a building that appeared to have a craft mall set up for daytime shopping. They did not have menus and seemed to be structured for mostly carry out, door dash, grub hub, etc., so our dine in experience was underwhelming. After browsing their menu online, we decided to try one classic lobster roll, one truffle and chive lobster roll, and the crabby shrimp balls. We ordered fries with one of the rolls and chips with the other so we could try both. We split each of the rolls and to be honest, we couldn't taste much of a difference in flavor and wouldn't recommend spending the extra $3 for the truffle and chive version. We were also a little disappointed because all of the pictures, including ours, look like the rolls are loaded with nice big chunks of lobster. What we realized after digging in is that the nice big chunks of lobster are just on top for presentation. Underneath, there is a shredded seasoned meat mixture. Overall, we thought the lobster rolls were overpriced for the size and a bit deceiving. We did, however, enjoy the crabby shrimp balls. They came with a nice dipping sauce that was full of flavor. The fries and chips were both a little salty, but we figured given their name, we should have expected that! The ketchup that came with the fries was seasoned with what I think was old bay and Worcestershire, but I'm not entirely sure so don't quote me. We did end up tipping ~20% which was part of the reason our bill was $81, but we probably won't be back for that price. read more

New to area looking to try out the facility. Went to iron man and attempted the food from their food truck. We placed one order of loaded fries and waited over 30 minutes. We clearly seen people that ordered after us get their food before us. After about the fourth person getting their food I asked if we were skipped or was our order misplaced, I was not met with a friendly attitude, the guy gave me attitude saying everyone is ordering fries. 1) that's no excuse for a crap attitude when a customer is inquiring why people are getting their food ahead of them and skipping orders is not right or fair. The price is not worth the wait nor the horrible attitudes. Just for this horrible experience I don't even want to imagine what the restaurant staff is like, for that reason we will definitely not be going. Gave 1 star only because I couldn't post a review without it. True southern hospitality would have made the wait more understandable, not an attitude. read more

I picked up an order of their lobster mac n cheese last friday on 01/22/21. It was my first time ordering from them. While the mac n cheese was good, their was so little lobster in it you couldn't even taste it at all. Iwouldn't normally pay 12.00 for mac n cheese. So that was disappointing. Also the first bite I nearly broke my tooth biting on a huge piece of shell, that I had thought was lobster. In the picture on their menu it shows big chunks of lobster, not what you get at all. Still I will give them on more chance and try t heir lobster roll and see if that has any lobster in it. I'll start by saying the food was delicious. I ordered the Chubby Jon Cheesesteak and the flavor and portion size were both enormous. Price $16.99. The online ordering is a touch awkward as it appears you're ordering from the same restaurant but each food option has different sides/ options. For example it did not give me the chance to order fries as a side. However, my girlfriend ordered the Krittery Krab roll and it allowed her to pick a side and she got fries. $20.99. Her sandwich was less than half the size of mine, yet still a good portion for one meal. Overall, the flavor was on point but the prices might be bit high for me to make this a regular deal as it was $40 for two sandwiches and one order of fries. (We did pickup not delivery.) read more

I just discovered this restaurant on Yelp when I was looking for take out options. I ordered the lobster roll and the shrimp boil. The roll is loaded with lobster meat and tasted very good. The shrimp boil is delicious and the portion is more than enough for 2-3 persons. Customer service was excellent. I will definitely be back for more. read more

Not happy with Salty's. Placed a take out order, over $200. Requested that the lobster rolls come un-assembled. They were assembled, and the buns were totally soggy by the time I got them home. Also did not include 3 orders of fries. Tried emailing them directly but their email bounces as undeliverable, the feedback form on the website doesn't work, and I don't do Facebook. My daughter and I tried Saltys for the first time on Sunday and let me say, it won't me the last time. The lobster roll was so delicious with a good portion of lobster and my daughter (picky 12 year old) said the Double Stack c'burger was the best burger ever. I highly recommend!!! read more

My knee-jerk reaction was a one star because I was so disappointed with the quality of the lobster roll I received and wrote a review accordingly. Within minutes of finding a way to message the company to relay my poor experience, I was almost immediately messaged back by the owner apologizing and promising to find out what went wrong and to refund my purchase. I changed my review from one star to three because of his "epic" customer service. I don't use that word lightly. If I could rate that, it would be, without doubt, five stars. In the meantime, I'm going to stay with three stars, despite that the lobster did not meet my expectations, however, the owner has vowed to fix the problem, and to win me over. So, the lesson I re-learned was that before posting a review that is not as flattering as a business would enjoy, to reach out to the business to see how they respond to the issue. My husband and I have been anticipating ordering from Salty's for months now and finally did. We are disappointed to say the least. We ordered 2 lobster rolls which were about 3 bites-worth. We were ok with this because we had also ordered calamari. The calamari was beyond overcooked; rubber with a burned coating. If I could figure out how to post a picture, I would. I couldn't believe that any place of business, especially one that is so highly thought of, would serve that calamari to a customer. We spent a little under $100 and feel almost robbed. read more
