Nautical-themed The Blind Pelican has been on my bloody mary bucket list for years, so I was excited to finally get to check them out this weekend while visiting the Raleigh area. I quickly scanned their hefty bloody mary menu and ordered the Lobstrocity, featuring veggies, shrimp, a grilled cheese sandwich and a fresh lobster tail atop a sizeable glass of the main concoction. This was definitely a meal in a glass! It was all quite delicious and filling, and I was glad I'd opted out of any of the optional add-ons like filet mignon, crab claws, or frog legs. Of course, I still had to order half a dozen raw oysters for dessert. And no, I won't be eating for the rest of the day! What made this a 5 star experience was our phenomenal server, Trevor. He was fast, friendly, and always nearby to clear empty plates or offer drink refills. read more

The blind pelican is an excellent choice if your looking for a casual place with great vibes inside and outside on their patio. I recently visited with family on a Friday night. You can tell this place is popular by the amount of people who were on the wait list for a table. The bar area has a ton of local draft beer options and very friendly wait staff. The food options vary from sushi nachos to more traditional sandwiches. I thought my fish sandwich was a bit bland but it was still an overall great experience. I've had BP on my radar for a long time and Brody had a soccer game about 10 minutes away so we decided to give it a go and we were not disappointed! Started with Lobster scallop bisque, then sushi nachos followed by garlic parm wings and 1lb. of peel n eat shrimp. The soup was a great warm up on a cold rainy day. That was Brody's favorite part of our meal. The sushi nachos were piled high, aesthetically appealing and very flavorful. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs with the shrimp partly because it seemed to be more than the lb. that was ordered so we took 9 shrimp on ice home with the homemade cocktail sauce. Service was great with Kayley starting out then Bree finishing off our service. BP is a casual laid back seafood and drinks place that feels like your in a beach town. Was excited to check this place out from so the social media posts and ads. It had a lot of boat and ocean decor which gave it a beachy touch. From the outside it just looks like a restaurant in a brick shopping center but when you get inside it looks as you'd expect a seafood place to look like. They had a lot of choices of old fashions. There was a lot of seasonal special drinks to choose from. I went in the late afternoon during the week, so it wasn't crowded at all. It have the feeling of a lot of regulars who go. The menu had a lot to choose from. The sides section had a lot of good homemade sounding options. I ended up getting a smores martini, the crabcake sandwich and red potatoes. The potatoes were good and unique, the martini looked pretty, and the crabcake was filling. I plan to come back and try other food items and another specialty drink to see if I like those better. The food? It's solid, but not quite destination-worthy. The lobster roll is the standout -- nicely buttered, warm bun with a decent amount of lobster -- but don't expect Maine-level freshness. Drove 45 minutes here for the bloody Mary's I've been seeing all over socials! Service seemed promising when we entered, they were quick to seat us and very nice. Unfortunately it ended there. Our waitress was very inattentive and hardly around. The menu looked great, again ended up being disappointed. The lobster and scallop bisque was lacking flavor, was watery, and had no chunks of seafood in it. The gator bites were so small and inconvenient to eat. The lobster roll had no flavor and was dry. The hush puppies with the sweet butter were really good! The mahi mahi was overcooked, but had good flavor. The Bloody Mary was pretty good! My husband had the blueberry and cucumber mojito and said it didn't taste right. Overall a $200 meal for the 2 of us with tip and will not be coming back. read more

Next time I'll probably try the lobster special w the whole lobsters. Husband had crab cakes. He said he wouldn't order it again, but did like the roasted potatoes. I thought the crab cakes were ok. And I don't usually order them. Calamari appetizer was a good portion/tasty. The clam chowder was too. Enough to share. We may have ordered a bowl though, can't remember. Guessing they may put a little sherry in - so it's extra delicious. Tastes a bit like bisque and a lot of clams. Another post mentions the bisque doesn't have chunks in it. Bisque isn't supposed to (sadly) have chunks. I'd recommend trying the clam chowder instead. Slice of cheese cake for dessert. Chocolatey and rich. Good for sharing. Also recommend. Very good Bloody Mary! A regular, without the seafood extras. A bit too salty, but would still order again. It's a bit pricey, but considering its seafood, we expected it wouldn't be a cheap meal. You can order other things if you don't want to spend a ton. Calamari is in line w pricing compared to other restaurants and so is the rest really. We went early on a Wednesday, around 5pm, for the lobster specials. Walked right in and were seated, but I have a feeling it gets busy and noisy when the restaurant gets more crowded. Came here for lunch and enjoyed my meal. We were seated immediately and the server was accommodating about us having to switch tables due to our baby being upset by the (loud-ish) music inside :) As soon as we moved to an outside table, everything was better. I got the lobster roll (Maine style) for myself, while my wife got the fried flounder. My roll definitely wasn't cheap ($26) but they did give me a pretty generous heaping of lobster. The roll could have been toasted more and the lobster tasted OK but didn't blow me away. My side of fries were cooked well, and I enjoyed the tartar sauce for dipping (although I was charged extra for it, which is always a little frustrating). My wife enjoyed her fried flounder (which, at $22, was also a little pricey to me), and I sampled her side Caesar salad and it wasn't bad. Overall, service was good and the food was decent but nothing extraordinary. The price tag for lunch will probably keep me from coming back regularly, but I don't think you'll regret coming here and trying it out. read more

Yum yum yum, the crab dip is a must! The warm, delicious crab dip helps offset the chilling ambient temperature. But bring a sweater as well since they keep it quite cold inside. Although the crab dip was the star, we enjoyed our dishes. I especially liked the Connecticut style lobster roll. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and all our orders were accurate. The menu is primarily seafood and the prices and portions seem reasonable. The bloody Marys however were expensive. I'm not a big fan of bloody Marys so I skipped it. I didn't realize until a neighboring party ordered one that you could swap out the Bloody Mary part for a different drink! I may have to do that next time. Does shrimp, grilled cheese, bacon, and lobster go with a pina colada? Note: the crab dip is gluten free and can be ordered with tortilla chips rather than bread. read more

We found ourselves here on Father's Day, and although the place was jam packed, the food and service was spot on. The dolls at the hostess stand were personable and professional and the service at the bar was fantastic. (Thank the good Lord for full service at the bar that spared us the 80 minute wait). Our order came out quickly, and we were in and out in no time! The oysters Rockefeller were delicious and the hubby's shrimp basket w/ onion rings was tasty also. What a fun experience For Father's Day I decided to treat my husband to his Bloody Mary of his dreams. the Blind Pelican was 1 1/2 hours from our place so we took a little road trip. We arrived around 2:30 Saturday afternoon, and got seated right away. We ordered oysters rockerfella, lobster roll (Connecticut style), and The Zeus Bloody Mary. The Lobster Roll was perfect. Drove a hour for our Anniversary and found out it was a 2 hour wait. They wanted to know if we called ahead. No we didn't because I looked on their website before hand and no where did it have anything about reservations. So if you don't do reservations why would someone call ahead of time. read more

But the customer service is really what is top notch! Every server we've had is phenomenal, friendly, and fun. The hostesses do an amazing job getting everyone sat in a timely manner. We most recently ordered takeout and unfortunately our order did not come out correctly. The manager, Rich, and the hostess did such a great job righting the wrong. I got the king crab - it felt like I was in Alaska!!! Cooked to perfection and served super hot, with hush puppies and slaw. I also got a Maine lobster roll for an appetizer, thinking it'd be small. It was huge!!!! It was delicious. Not overwhelming on the mayo, just lobster, seasoning, and a teeny bit of celery on a nice roll. This is not a New England roll, though. I only ate a quarter since I knew my crab was coming. It'll make a great lunch tomorrow. It also comes with a side. I recommend their Parmesan broccoli. My family and my wife's brother's family came here for a final meal before heading home. We were quite happy with our meal. No reservations here and we were a big party of six adults and four children. Thankfully the "communal" center table was not being used and we snagged it about 4:30pm in this smallish seating restaurant. None of us had been here but we definitely heard about the super Bloody Mary monsters available. Our bubbly and friendly waitress explained that she was sure that anything we ordered would be liked, that they were a family owned place, and we'd want to return. Several things were ordered and all was liked. Most favorite was the special Ahi Tuna Sushi Nachos, and I really loved the house soup today - scallop and lobster bisque. No pieces of either in the soup but very tasty. My fried oysters were not overdone, the hush puppies were crispy, and garden salad was nothing special. My wife quite liked her Caesar salad with salmon, and the seafood chowder had a nice kick in seasoning to it with lots of chunks of seafood. What was really special was the Kraken version of the Bloody Mary my brother-in-law ordered. Lobster tail, shrimp, crab legs, bacon, celery, grilled cheese sandwich (yes, that's correct), and a great Bloody Mary. Quite expensive at $80 but so good. And that was not even the most expensive on the menu. We were also told we can beat the all-time record of $1550 by going a dollar over. You can just keep adding onto the Bloody Mary until your heart desires. I didn't see any record breaking pictures on the wall, but that should become a feature in here. There were a lot of people waiting for a table by the time we left a couple of hours later. Glad we didn't have to wait today. $445 for six adults and four children including automatic 18% tip for parties of seven or more and included three cocktails.
